    Celem artykułu jest analiza tekstów zamieszczonych na portalu Twój Styl, oznaczonych tagiem „medycyna”, z perspektywy wykorzystanych w nich chwytów retorycznych. Zebrany materiał został podzielony ze względu na gatunek wypowiedzi (celowy wybór konwencji), następnie poddany analizie z uwagi na zastosowanie językowych i pozajęzykowych środków, które mają na celu oddziaływanie na odbiorców (od przyciągnięcia ich uwagi po nakłonienie do proponowanych postaw). Dzięki tak przeprowadzonemu badaniu możliwe było nakreślenie strategii komunikacyjnych, służących pozyskiwaniu odbiorców przez autorów tekstów. Główną konkluzją wynikającą z przeprowadzonego badania jest fakt intencyjnego, ukierunkowanego chęcią realizacji funkcji nakłaniającej ukształtowania treści dotyczących zdrowia.
    The article offers an analysis of texts posted on the Twój Styl website tagged as pertaining to “medicine” from the perspective of rhetorical strategies deployed therein. The research material has been divided into categories on the basis of the character of the statement (conscious choice of convention) and subsequently analyzed with the view to capturing the linguistic and extra-linguistic tools employed to affect the recipients (from capturing the readers’ attention to propagating specific attitudes). The study conceived in such a way enables an overview of communication strategies used by the authors to attract the recipients. The main conclusion of the study is that health-related content is intentionally shaped in such a way that would persuade the addressees to embrace particular behaviours.

    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest prześledzenie na przykładzie kilkudziesięciu tekstów kaznodziejskich różnorodności stosowanych we współczesnej homiletyce funkcji, typów i wariantów pytań retorycznych (subiectio, communicatio, dubitatio, interrogatio) przede wszystkim w aspekcie illokucyjnym, z uwzględnieniem zasadności, skuteczności oraz adekwatności ich użycia w określonej części kazania.
    The purpose of this article is to investigate, on the example of several preaching texts, a diversity of functions, types, and variants of rhetorical questions used in contemporary homiletics (subiectio, communicatio, dubitatio, interrogatio), primarily in terms of illocution, including the appropriateness, effectiveness, and adequacy of their use in a specific part of the sermon.

    Opis:
    The paper presents various ways of paraphrasing understood as a process of the expression of the same meaning via other words. Collected material shows a wide range of phenomena in the examined corpus of temporary press statements, wealth and the multi-directionality metatekstual expressions by which speakers signal the transition to the paraphrase. This has to do with the general function of paraphrasing which is a rhetorical technique in support of the process of the interpretation of the tekst. The added value is a revival of communication and increase confidence in the dialogue partner, as well as confidence to the language as a medium capable of expressing reality.

    The article deals with issues present in the humanities undergoing the changes due to rhetorization of contemporary culture. First I am discussing the impact of the variability of modern culture on traditional humanities (new methodology and new theory of science based on a rhetorical approach to the text and its symbolic and ideological meaning). This caused the great development of various rhetorical studies in the 20th century (from philosophy of language to practical art of speaking and argumentation). In our time, those studies answer the questions: 1) why and for what reasons do we depend on other people's views? 2) how can we exert a positive influence by text communication on other individuals? Therefore, nowadays we are seeing a new rhetorical trend in communication studies concerning all the culture texts – this trend also affects literary studies and cultural anthropology: academic disciplines which adopt the research tools of the traditional and new rhetorical workshop. This new attitude towards the humanities has an impact on general education at schools and universities.

    W opracowaniu obserwacji poddano szczególny zabytek ze zbioru poloników kijowskich, tj. Paterikon abo żywoty ss. Oycow pieczarskich Sylwestra Kossowa. Jest to piśmienne świadectwo wielokulturowości dawnej Rzeczpospolitej oraz wielopłaszczyznowych relacji polsko-ruskich. Celem szkicu jest wskazanie generycznych elementów polemiki z poziomu kompozycji i pragmatyki tekstu oraz identyfikacja podporządkowanego im repertuaru środków językowych realizujących perswazyjne cele tekstu polemicznego. Analizy pozwoliły wskazać, że polemiczny charakter utworu widać zarówno w strukturze tekstu, gdzie dominują elementy refutacji, jak i w specjalnym użyciu języka, związanym przede wszystkim z probacją. W tym drugim obszarze ujawniono dwie globalne strategie komunikacyjne: uwiarygodnienie treści (na które składa się powoływanie się na źródła historiograficzne i dokumenty oraz dokonywanie zabiegów etymologizujących) oraz apoteoza osób i miejsca (którą realizują strategie osadzania przekazu w przeszłości, odwołanie do genealogii, maksymalizacja cnót świętych, sakralizacja zakonnej rzeczywistości). Wśród środków perswazyjnych znalazły się m.in. sylogizmy, argumentum ad verecundiam, argumentum ad baculum, argument z tradycji, wyliczenie, kontrast. Sposób ukształtowania tekstu na opisywanych poziomach potwierdza wspólnotę europejskiej kultury retorycznej, a z Kossowa czyni modelowego reprezentanta humanistycznych wartości i sposobów ich wyrażania.
    This article analyses the text titled Paterikon or the Lives of the Holy Fathers of the Kiev Caves by Sylvester Kossów. It is a unique monument from the collection of Kiev’s Polish diaspora; a written testimony of the multiculturalism of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and of the multifaceted Polish-Russian relations. The purpose of this outline is: 1) to indicate the generic polemic elements at the level of composition and pragmatics, and 2) to identify the repertoire of language subordinated to them that implement the persuasive objectives of the polemical text. Analyses have shown that the polemical nature of the work can be seen both in the structure, where elements of refutation dominate, and in the particular use of language, primarily associated with probation. In this second area, two global communication strategies were revealed: content authentication (which consists of citing historiographic sources and documents, as well as performing etymologisation procedures), and apotheosis of people and places (implemented by strategies of embedding the message in the past, by reference to genealogy, by the hyperbolisation of saints’ virtues, the sacralisation of monastic reality, etc.). The persuasive language includes, inter alia, syllogisms, argumentum ad verecundiam, argumentum ad baculum, argument from tradition, enumeration, and contrasts. The shape of the text confirms the European community of rhetorical culture and makes Kossów a model representative of humanistic values and of the ways of expressing them.

    The term Rhetorische Kommunikation (engl. rhetorical communication, vgl. McCroskey 1968 „An Introduction to Rhetorical Communication“) was introduced into German–language scholarship by Brigitte Frank-Bohringer in her 1963 book of the same title and was subsequently firmly established by Helmut Geißner. It is currently used in a variety of contexts when the rhetorical dimensions of language are the focus of interest. It appears both in rhetoric manuals as well as in academic texts on the topic, including those with an empirical perspective. This contribution aims to illuminate the epistemological background to this terminology by focusing on a number of linguistically relevant communication approaches. Underlying this discussion is the differentiated use of the concept as outlined here, as well as a holistic view of spoken language, grounded in a theory of action. Finally, the practical value of the term Rhetorische Kommunikation, will be emphasized, underlining the fact that its content serves as a provable basis for the systematic and goal–oriented use of rhetoric as a theme in the teaching of German as a foreign language. The following discussion proceeds from the concept of Rhetorische Kommunikation.

    The purpose of this work is to analyze the persuasion which characterizes therapeutic advice and its collaborative goal. It is observed that this type of advice seems to be more effective when it is not limited to a mere scientific demonstration, but it considers also all the interlocutor’s subjective aspects. The study is supported by examples from a little corpus of transcribed real doctor-patient dialogues, collected and analyzed in a previous research work of the author. The research examines the principal arguments, argumentative figures and silences.

    Children’s language acquisition is normally explained either in biological, nativist or in functionalist and usage based terms. The main thesis of this article is that rhetorical terminology introduced by Aristotle is fruitful for our understanding of the development process children go through when learning language. Introducing rhetoric to descriptions of children’s language acquisition presupposes the presence of rhetoric in all communicative practices. This article introduces the concept of a civic art of rhetoric as developed by Eugene Garver in his reading of Aristotle as a theoretical framework for describing what characterizes children’s earliest communication. The article should therefore be understood as a discussion of rhetorical concepts relevant for describing children’s language acquisition. This approach highlights language acquisition as a cultural practice and children’s fi rst communication as something more than just imperfect verbal communication.
