Opis:
This paper presents new achievements in the field of designing the gravitation and gravitation-underpressure chamber for bottom flushing in the detention chamber immediately after its emptying from the accumulated sewage. Temporary accumulation of the sewage in the detention chamber of the reservoir causes partial sedimentation of the solids suspended in the liquid. The location of the flushing chamber at the maximal level of filling with sewage in the retention chamber substantially improves the effectiveness of flushing of the bottom of the retention chamber with the stream of sewage that is discharged from the flushing chamber. An opportunity for effective flushing of the sludge that remains on the bottom of a detention chamber represents an important operation which is essential for reliable functioning of retention reservoirs within sewerage systems.

Opis:
The installation to the collection and transport of gas in case of the evil conventional occupies a great many places. When we are meeting variable factors in time e.g. with the efficiency this we are in a position to propose installations smaller and divided into modules which in case of the reduction of the quantity of extracted gas would be able to to be deducted in the easy way or augmented of the existing installation. Economic aspects engaged searches of more effective installations to the cleaning and the drainage of gas. Already from the early 90s of the 20th century, the oil industry sacrificed many attention to methods of the separation. This permitted the discovery of such separators as Gas/Liquid Cylindrical-Cyclone (GLCC). In comparison with conventional, compact separators are easy in the installation and the service, require the small maintenance. The simplicity of the construction, smaller measurements and the balance GLCC provides savings of costs. In the paper authors will review solutions of compact separators and also the preliminary adaptation and the definition of measurements for given parameters of technological exploited of natural gas reservoirs.

At the same time with gas reservoirs energetic depletion there appears the perforation deterioration or blockage issue. Mostly, in the mature gas reservoirs, a big attention must be given to well interventions for maintaining or increasing the production. Because of the workover operation risks and costs, the oil companies prefer as much as possible rigless jobs to accomplish well stimulation like reperforation or several coil tubing operations (acidizing, fracturing etc). In our rehabilitation programs for many gas reservoirs, our company accomplished successfully more stimulation jobs. In this paper, we will present some case studies and results obtained after several rigless operations which assure long term production increases.

Opis:
Non-damaging flow below storage reservoirs is one of the key factors which affect proper water management, especially the protection of valleys against flooding. Following analysis of river flow capacities below reservoirs it should be noted that, over the years, these capacities are subject to significant limitations. This is usually caused by inappropriate floodplain management. Buildings are often built closer to the river channels, which in consequence causes flooding of the buildings at low flood discharges. Repeated inundations and thus increasing losses oblige the local authorities to maintain low outflows from reservoirs in the first phase of the freshet, which leads to a rapid fulfillment of flood reserves of the reservoirs. Then, the culmination of flood wave often takes place when the reservoirs are filled and consequently high discharges from the reservoirs must be realized. This causes flooding of the areas and buildings below the storage reservoirs. This situation could have been avoided if the riverbeds and floodplains had been adjusted to pass non-damaging flow and adopted it as the basis for the water management of a given reservoir. A significant improvement in reduced reservoir capacities will occur if the values of non-damaging flow below the reservoirs are increased and the losses caused by flood flow are significantly reduced by appropriate spatial development of the areas below the storage reservoirs. The current non-damaging flow below the Mietków reservoir is a striking example of the issue. Three farms located within the floodplain of the Bystrzyca river have an adverse impact on water management of the reservoir when floods take place.

Opis:
The article concerns the self-purification of running waters in areas where they flow into water bodies. At such places, delta forms (alluvial fans, deltas) are created that are built up of the material accumulated by the watercourse. The study was conducted in the Upper Silesia region in southern Poland and concerned delta forms created in seven water bodies (Dzierżno Duże, Dzierżno Małe, Pogoria I, Pogoria III, Przeczyce, Kozłowa Góra, Pławniowice). The choice of the Upper Silesia region as the study area was dictated by the specific process whereby delta forms are created. In this region, which is among the most urbanised and industrialised in Poland, which results in most polluted surface waters. Running waters are heavily burdened with wastewater, by-products from processing minerals (particularly coal dust), technological water, sewage sludge, fertilisers, etc. The deposition of pollutants in river mouths leads to the rapid creation of delta forms with areas ranging from several hundred square metres to around 1 sq. km. The largest delta form has been created at the place where the Kłodnica River enters the Dzierżno Duże reservoir. During low water its area exceeds 1 sq. km and its thickness exceeds ten metres in some places. The overall volume of the Kłodnica River delta is estimated to be slightly over 2 million cu. m. Owing to the deposition that is taking place, running waters are subject to self-purification, particularly with respect to the solid particles they carry. This is a mechanical purification process. Apart from mineral substances, a significant amount of organic matter transported by the river is also deposited. The composition of delta sediments only partly reflects the characteristics of the substrate present in the catchments of the rivers that form the deltas in question, and the deposits often exhibit anthropogenic features. Delta sediments are a material that includes a large amount of organic matter, nutritional substances (mainly phosphorus compounds) and trace elements, including heavy metals. Concentrations of many elements exceed the levels characteristic of the natural geochemical background of sedimentary rocks. Therefore pollutants are immobilised, at least temporarily, during the process of creating the delta form, which protects the quality of the water in the water bodies. This purification effect is amplified by the vegetation overgrowing the deltas, which is dominated by common reed. This vegetation serves as a biological filter for waters that filter through it or remain stagnant, removing many pollutants by way of biological assimilation. Apart from their significance for water self-purification, deltas are important from the point of view of reducing the silting up of water bodies. Delta forms perform many functions in the natural environment as well. These include increasing the retention capacity of the surrounding area, shaping new habitats and increasing local biodiversity.

The content in this report was presented at the 3rd MUSE steering committee meeting at UoS, in Stavanger, December 10th, 2015. The project report consists of five individual reports, each focusing on various themes: 1. Hydrocarbon Reservoir Behaviour during the Process of Abandonment and Thereafter by Victor Chukwudi Anokwuru, IPT/TN/UoS 2. Monitoring Techniques Applied to CCS-EOR by Intergrity Obara, IPT/TN/UoS 3. Risk Assessment by Emil Gazizullin, IPT/TN/UoS 4. Environmental Considerations of CO2 Projects by Oduro Takyiwa Susanna, IKM/TN UoS and Yen Adams Sokama-Neuyam, IPT/TN/UoS 5. How to Reduce the Likelihood of Environmental Impacts During Plug and Abandonment by Alexander Steine Johnsen, Preben Emil Haugen and Jann Rune Ursin, IPT/TN/UoS The reports are all written under supervision of the WP2 project leader. All reports are based on open sources; local (UoS) reports, publications available on the internet, official publications and journal papers, and communications with a great number of individual resource persons in the Norwegian oil and gas industry. The relevance of the work presented in the above mentioned reports, in relation to the MUSE project objectives is, as far possible, promoted through carefully following the project description (part of the AGH–UoS partnership agreement) and with reference to a preliminary WP1 progress report from mid February 2015; WP1-Selecting reservoirs for application of CO2 storage with IOR technology and feasibility studies. The work in the MUSE project is accomplished through the willingness and skills of UoS department master students, hired as project assistants. Fortunately for the project there are quite a few high class student, capable of writing high quality technical reports at UoS. The five reports are presented sequentially and all reports are the responsibility of the author and all reports are approved by the WP2 project leader.

The aim of this study was to assess the mercury concentration in bottom sediments, collected from eight reservoirs located in south-eastern Poland. A DMA-80 Mercury Analyser was used for the analysis of the concentration of mercury in bottom sediments. Concentration of mercury in sediments was between 0.01–0.18 mg∙kg−1. The research results show that 13 samples are above the Polish Hg background level. Only 9 samples are below the background level. Generally, the sediments belonged to class I and II (unpolluted and moderately polluted sediments). The concentration of mercury in bottom sediments follows the order: Rybnik (highest) > Bagna Rzeszowskie > Rzeszów > Ożanna > Brzóza Stadnicka > Brzóza Królewska > Głuchów > Narożniki (lowest). The low mercury content in sediments is related to absent or limited anthropogenic sources of this metal. Elevated concentrations of Hg in bottom sediments of the reservoirs in Rybnik and Bagna Rzeszowskie are related to their proximity to large agglomerations and industrial plants. Organic matter was likely to be the most important factors controlling the concentration and distribution of mercury in the studied sediments.

The aim of the paper is to assess the fluctuations of water levels in the Turawa Reservoir (50° 43' N, 18° 08' E) in relation to the tourist use of the water body. The reservoir is situated within the macroregion of the Silesian Lowland in the mesoregion of the Opole Plain. In administrative terms, the reservoir is situated in the pole Province within the borough of Turawa. In hydrological terms, in turn, it is situated in the catchment area of the Mała Panew river, which belongs to the basin of the Odra river. The Turawa Reservoir was opened for use in 1938, and in 1948 it was filled with water to its maximum for the first time. At present, the surface area of the reservoir, when it is filled with water to its maximum, is about 20.8 km2, its volume 99.5 mln m3, and its depth exceeds 13 meters. In the period of hydrological years 1976-2000 water levels in this reservoir were characterized by high, unnoticed in natural conditions, amplitudes of changes reaching 6.99 m. Anthropogenically stimulated fluctuations in the water level result in conflicts in terms of tasks and functions that the Turawa Reservoir was designed for. Changes in the level of the water surface in the Turawa Reservoir resulted from the impact of the natural factors (thaw and rainfall related high water levels), as well as anthropogenic ones (the need to improve sailing conditions, water supply for industrial and municipal needs). Decreasing the fluctuations of water levels in the Turawa Reservoir is necessary in order to maintain its tourist-recreational functions and keep the ecological condition of its waters at the appropriate level.

This paper presents the analysis of challenges concerning development of natural gas fields with low- -permeable reservoirs and experimental results of conducted laboratory researches, which provide the opportunity to establish regularities of adsorption-desorption processes in tight sands and develop technologies that enable increasing gas recovery factor from low-permeable reservoirs. For this purpose, a series of laboratory experiments were carried out on the sand packed models of layers with different permeability (from 9.7 to 93 mD) using methane, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The pressure in the experiments varied from 1 to 10 MPa, temperature – 22–60 degrees of Celsius. These studies revealed the influence of pressure, temperature, reservoir permeability and non-hydrocarbon gases injection rate on the course of adsorption-desorption processes and their impact on the gas recovery factor. The obtained results of conducted experiments show high efficiency of non-hydrocarbon gases injection to enhance gas recovery and feasibility of their application in the natural gas field with low-permeable reservoirs.

One of increasingly used methods for reducing carbon dioxide emission to atmosphere is CCS technology (Carbon Capture and Storage). The last element of sequestration technological chain, after capturing and transporting is CO2 storage which is currently considered in natural environment, oceans and geological structures - of which depleted gas reservoirs have high sequestrating potential mainly by virtue of proven record of geological recognition and high recovery factor, hence, great storage capacity. This paper is connected with first stage of CO2 storage in depleted gas reservoir i.e. flow of injected fluid inside the well. Conducted analysis was concerned about CO2 flow conditions inside the injection well in various stages of CO2 storage process, and furthermore, relation between reservoir pressure, injection rate, well diameter. Moreover, the thermodynamic conditions and its impact on changeability of PVT parameters and hence phase changes were also investigated

One of the important environmental issues is the quality of surface waters in the world. Poland belongs to countries with a low quality of the inland waters. The sanitary condition of the five water reservoirs of south-east Poland was analyzed. Water and sediment samples were incubated on the selective and/or differential media. High concentrations of many common and pathogenic microbial indicators were shown in those samples. Those reservoirs are used by people, especially during summer. Because of the high epidemiological risk, detailed analysis of all inland waters should be performed routinely.

When considering the issue of the functioning of small water reservoirs, the attempt to assess changes in trophy of small retention reservoir located in Wasilkow, Podlasie, before and after remediation, was carried out. Water samples tests were carried out once a month from April 2007 to March 2008, from April 2009 to March 2010 (before remediation), and from April 2013 to March 2014 (after removal of silt). Prior to works related to the reservoir remediation, a gradual increase in the number of tested contaminants and disturbances in the seasonal occurrence of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds were observed. Advanced eutrophic processes in Wasilków reservoir occur probably due to the supply of large amounts of humic and biogenic substances from the catchment, because a significant percentage of its area is covered by forests and agricultural lands. The development of the trophic status of the reservoir is largely influenced by the amount of phosphorus and total nitrogen supplied to the reservoir; the least affected by chlorophyll “a”. Comparing the analyses performed in 2007/2008 and 2009/2010, a slight, but growing trend of average trophic levels of water in the basin Wasilków was found. Studies conducted in 2013/2014 revealed a significant decrease in the concentrations of all analyzed pollutants, and hence lower TSI values. It can be concluded that the reclamation associated with the removal of sediments brought the expected results.

Intensive rainfalls and snow melting often cause floods in protected areas and overflow the existing sewage systems. Such cases are particularly burdensome for the inhabitants and cause considerable physical losses. One of the possible constructional solutions to ensure the effective outflow of stormwater are transfer reservoirs located between the draining system and a receiver set discussed in this paper. If gravity outflow of sewage is impossible, the initial part of sewage volume is accumulated in the transfer reservoir and then it is transferred into the water receiver set. However, gravity discharge of sewage to the water receiver set occurs through transfer chambers in the transfer reservoir.

Opis:
Preliminary valorisaion of the Major Groudwater Basins, including the assesment of groundwater useful properties, as well as necessity and order of protective measures (Paczyński, 2003) is a research project undertaken by Polish Geological Institute at the request of the Minister of Environment. The PGI performed an assessment of the MGBs taking into account a wide range of aspects and with use of various documentations, results of studies, publications, archival and cartographic data. The two years hydrogeological research was cartographically summarized in the Map of Preliminary Valorisation of the Major Groundwater Basins in 1 : 500,000 scale, which is another step in documenting the Major Groundwater Basins. The valorisation revealed that most of the documented MGBs urgently require establishing protective zones and that there is an pressing necessity of implementing and designating “Strategic Groundwater Basins”.

Opis:
Hydraulic fracturing treatments of shale gas reservoirs is pumping process in which millions of gallons of fracturing fluids mixed with proppant materials and thickening agents are pumped into the target shale formation. Fluids are used to create the fractures in the formation and to carry a propping agent which is deposited in the induced fractures to keep them from closing up. Type and percentage of chemical additives that used in a typical fracture treatment varies depending on the conditions of well being fractured. A series of chemical additives are selected to impart a predictable set of properties of the fluid, including viscosity, friction, formation-compatibility, and fluid-loss control. Each component in fracturing fluids serves a specific, engineered purpose and geological structure of rock. The properties of fracturing fluid are very important in the creation and propagation of the fracture. For suc-cessful stimulation fracturing fluid mustto have certain chemical and physical properties. Study of the properties fracturing fluids has ahuge role inthe processes of shale gas extraction. In scientific literature indicates that hydraulic fracturing fluid performance became a prevalent research topic in the late 1980s and the 1990s. The majority of literature pertaining to fracturing fluids related to their operational efficiency and classification. Some of the existing literature offer information regarding the basic chemical components present in most of these fluids. This paper will discuss types of fracturing fluids and it components that may be used for hydraulic fracturing. Comprehensive history of the evolution of hydraulic fracturing fluids in the oil and gas industry plays a significant part in research. This work summarizes requests for fracturing fluids. In addition, this paper shows effect of rock mechanical properties on fracturing fluid selection.

Opis:
Studies upon the trophic status were carried out using water samples from a small retention reservoir Topiło located in a particularly valuable natural forests of Puszcza Białowieska. In order to assess the degree of Topiło reservoir contamination, three measurement and control points were selected for testing, which were situated near the inflow (point No. 1) and outflow (point No. 3) of river Perebel, as well as in the middle part of the reservoir (point No. 2). The selection and placement of measurement and control points on the reservoir was dictated by the ability to capture changes in the study object. Tests of water samples collected from the surface layer of the coastal zone, were carried out once a month during the period from April 2007 to March 2014. The following determinations in collected water samples were performed: total nitrogen, total phosphorus, chlorophyll “a”, and turbidity. The trophic level of Topiło reservoir was also assessed according to the concentration criteria and based on the trophic status indices (TSI) calculated after Carlson’s as well as Kratzer and Brezonik’s. Given the annual average value of overall trophic level (Trophic Sta-tus Index), the dominant role of the TSI (TP) during all years of research attracts some attention. The TSI index values ranged within 78.3–80.26, which allowed to classify the water of Topiło reservoir as hypertrophic. The research indicates an advanced and constantly progressive degradation of water quality in Topiło reservoir. Values of TSI (Chl) were in the range of 49.2–77.35 and therefore water status in winter can be defined as eutrophic indicating the hypertrophy in remaining periods under study. Additional investments planned for advance reclamation treatments should be necessarily taken into consideration at the stage of planning and design of new small water retention reservoirs. Topiło reservoir requires modernization and reclamation, it is also necessary to clean it up, especially the bottom pond, out of the stocked wood residues, as well as to remove the excess of sludge.

Opis:
Agriculture, mainly biogenic compounds (nitrogen and phosphorus) and plant protection products are one of the sources of environmental pollution. The sources of pollution are both farm buildings and intensively used agricultural land. Therefore, a crucial element of the environment contributing to the improvement of surface water quality are the aforementioned shallow reservoirs covered by vegetation that act as biofiltres or reservoirs such as dammed reservoirs. The analysed reservoir is located in the Greater Poland Province, about 25 km to the north from Poznań, in Murowana Goślina commune. The research on the analysed reservoir was conducted during the growing seasons, from 2016 to 2018, at three measurement and control points: at the Przebędowo reservoir inflow, it the Przebędowo reservoir and at the Przebędowo reservoir outflow. They included determining 4 groups of physico-chemical indicators supporting biological elements, including indicators characterising aerobic conditions, salinity, acidification (pH) and indicators characterising biogenic conditions. Based on the conducted research, a great influence of the reservoir was proven, especially in the context of the concentration of dissolved oxygen at the outflow, where, concerning this indicator, the reservoir was classified as water quality class I. The presented research results also confirmed that in the context of the complexity of hydrological and physico-chemical processes taking place in dammed reservoirs, it is necessary to continuously control them both in terms of water quantity and quality.

archaeology of the contemporary past
water reservoirs
deserted villages
Opis:
During the 20th century, 43 large water reservoirs were built on the territory of the present Czech Republic. These reservoirs have caused huge changes in cultural landscapes. Large areas have been flooded, many villages and towns have been deserted and many old communication tracts have been broken. There are many sources for studying these abandoned landscapes, such as pictures, photos, movies, old maps and military aerial photos from the 40s and 50s. We can also examine the archaeological relics of former human activities. This paper describes three examples of archaeological monuments that can be found in the landscapes transformed by water reservoirs. The first one is the ruin of the village of Fláje in the north of Bohemia. This village was founded in the Middle Ages and deserted in the 50s due to the construction of the Fláje water dam. This reservoir destroyed about two-thirds of the village, but also the rest of the settlement was abandoned and destroyed when the drinking water protection zone was established. The field research of this site took place during the reconstruction of the dam when the water level was much lower than usual. That revealed dozens of relicts of demolished houses and other remnants of the deserted village. Another example is the closed railway between the towns Černá Hůrka and Želnava in the Šumava mountains (southern part of Bohemia). This railway has been closed due to the construction of the largest water reservoir in the Czech Republic Lipno. Parts of the railway (in dry areas) were studied. Long sections of the rail bank with several structures (bridges, crossings, stations) were discovered with the use of old maps and aerial pictures. The last example describes two concrete bridges of the main Czech highway between the two largest cities in the Czech Republic – Prague and Brno. The construction of the highway began in the 30s, but it was interrupted between the 40s and 60s. Meanwhile, the Želivka water reservoir has been built and it flooded part of the unfinished highway. The bridges of the highway are now abandoned in the middle of the lake. The Czech landscapes of the large water reservoirs hide many remains of former human activities. Archaeology can provide useful tools for the research of the remains and for a better understanding of the history of those abandoned places.

Opis:
Celem badań była ocena stanu troficznego trzech zbiorników zaporowych będących pod różnym wpływem antropopresji, a także zróżnicowanych cechami morfologicznymi, hydrologicznymi i zlewniowymi. Badaniami objęto trzy zbiorniki: Wapienica, Goczałkowice i Łąka. Do oceny stanu troficznego wód zbiorników wykorzystano kryteria oparte o zmierzone stężenia (azotu i fosforu ogólnego, chlorofilu a) i wartości graniczne różnicowania trofii oraz indeks troficzny Carlsona (TSI – Trophic State Index). Stwierdzono występowanie zależności pomiędzy sposobem użytkowania zlewni a stanem troficznym wód zbiornikowych.
The aim of this study was to assess a trophic state of reservoirs in southern Poland under diversified human impact with different morphological, hydrological and river basin features. Three reservoirs were studied: Wapienica, Goczałkowice and Łąka. To estimate a trophic state of reservoir waters criteria based on measured total nitrogen, total phosphorous and chlorophyll a concentrations and limiting values of trophies differentiation as well as the Carlson trophic index (TSI) were used. Relationship between river basin operation use and a trophic state of reservoir waters was found. A trophic state described by TSI indices and concentration criteria for the Wapieni-ca reservoir water were encountered between oligothropy and mesotrophy. For the Goczałkowice reservoir the trophic state was described between mesoeutrophy and eutrophy and for the Łąka reservoir it had both eutrophic and hypertrophic features.

As part of rotary - hydraulic drilling method (the most common method for drilling the wells) the rock is displaced by the action of drilling bit, being removed from the bottom and brought to the surface, through the drilling fluid. Besides this function, the drilling fluid creates a backpressure against the borehole walls, overcoming the collapse of the poorly consolidated rocks as well as the fluids influx from the formations crossed by the well.
