    The article presents the fundamental aspects of the encyclical Fides et ratio of John Paul II concerning the historical and theological context of contemporary culture. It indicates current problems in the harmonious existence of societies that function according to paradigms contrary to the absolute truth of the theological subject. The errors resulting from modernism (subjective rationalism, the cognitive negation of faith) and postmodernism (relativization of truth, atheism and antitheism, the reductionism of faith) are discussed. Further, the existential value of religious faith is demonstrated through the correlation of meaning/sense and truth. In doing so, this article serves as an apologetic for the rational nature of faith. Truth is emphasized as a gift both contained in and received from God’s Revelation, a gift necessary for discovering the sense of human reality.
    Artykuł przedstawia fundamentalne aspekty encykliki Fides et ratio Jana Pawła II w odniesieniu do kontekstu historycznego i teologicznego współczesnej kultury. Wskazuje na aktualne problemy w harmonijnym egzystowaniu społeczeństw funkcjonujących według paradygmatów sprzecznych z prawdą absolutną stanowiącą przedmiot teologiczny. Omówione są tu błędy wynikające z modernizmu (subiektywny racjonalizm, poznawcza negacja wiary), postmodernizmu (relatywizacja prawdy, ateizm i antyteizm, redukcjonizm wiary). Wyjaśniono wartość egzystencjalną wiary religijnej jako ukazującej korelację sensu i prawdy, w ten sposób dokonując apologii racjonalnego charakteru wiary. Wyakcentowano prawdę jako dar zawarty w Bożym Objawieniu, niezbędny do odkrycia sensu ludzkiej rzeczywistości.

    The article presents the fundamental aspects of the encyclical Fides et ratio of John Paul II in relation to the historical and theological context of contemporary culture. It indicates current problems in the harmonious existence of societies functioning according to paradigms contrary to the absolute truth constituting the theological subject. The errors resulting from modernism (subjective rationalism, cognitive negation of faith) and postmodernism (relativization of truth, atheism and antitheism, reductionism of faith) are discussed here. The existential value of religious faith was explained as showing the correlation of meaning/sense and truth. In doing so, apologizing for the rational nature of faith. The truth was emphasized as a gift contained e received from God’s Revelation, necessary for discovering the sense of human reality.

    Rozwój nauki, w tym nauk ekonomicznych, zależy w dużym stopniu od uwarunkowań tworzonych zarówno wewnątrz nauki, jak i na zewnątrz, zwłaszcza w jej otoczeniu instytucjonalnym. W tym rozdziale omówione zostały skutki podziałów formalnych stosowanych w nauce światowej i w polskiej nauce. Przedstawiono negatywne skutki tych podziałów dla rozwoju nauki, w tym badań interdyscyplinarnych. Krytycznej ocenie poddano systemowo-instytucjonalne i finansowe uwarunkowania badań ekonomicznych w Polsce i zagrożenia, jakie niesie dla nauki ekspansja zjawiska postprawdy.
    Science is breaking any borders, also in economics Progress in science, including economics, depends significantly on conditions determined both inside particular science and outside, especially in institutional conditions or socio-economic systemic environment. In this paper we discuss consequences of divisions and classifications of sciences applied in sciences in international scale and in Polish scientific sector. It is presented several negative results of these divisions for scientific progress, including interdisciplinary research. Systemic, institutional and financial conditions of scientific sector in economics in Poland are analysed and critically evaluated. It is also discussed how potentially damaging for scientific progress is emerging form the expansion of post-truth phenomenon.

    In his multiannual research and didactic work Archbishop Edward Ozorowski refers to the Truth that has been conveyed to us in the Word of God, in the living Tradition of the Church and updated today by the authentic Magisterium of the Church. It shows that theology cannot be cultivated outside, or even contrary to the experience and the life of the Church. It has got its ecclesiastical dimension. The Archbishop’s service to the truth is strenghtened by his share in the episcopal office, which leaves its mark on the theology he cultivates and his attempts to show the true face of God.

    Opis:
    In the article, I try to answer questions about the role/functions of values in historical writing, about their place in the narrative, and I wonder whether historiography free from (historical) truth is at all possible. I assume, referring primarily to the sociology of knowledge and tools offered by the constructivist model of cognition, that the position regarding truth/value in historical research is realised in three (at least) attitudes, namely conservative, liberal and pragmatic. The superstitions present in each of them determine the attitude to truth/values and their functions in cognitive processes. The observations presented in the article show that the truth/truths/values turn out to be essentially rhetorical arguments used in disputes between competing visions/images of the past/the world. Their functions come down to strengthening/creating the authority of the Historian and, consequently, to conducting a (proper) historical policy.
    W artykule próbuję odpowiedzieć na pytania o rolę/funkcje wartości w pisarstwie historycznym, o ich miejsce w narracji oraz zastanawiam się, czy jest/lub jak jest możliwa historiografia wolna od prawdy (historycznej), będącej konsekwencją nie tyle procesu dochodzenia do niej, ale raczej opartej na zakładanej przez historyka wizji świata i człowieka/światooglądu, ideale nauki oraz preferowanej (wyznawanej) aksjologii. Zakładam zatem, odwołując się przede wszystkim do socjologii wiedzy i narzędzi oferowanych przez konstruktywistyczny model poznania, że stosunek do prawdy/wartości w badaniach historycznych realizuje się w trzech (przynajmniej) postawach, a mianowicie: konserwatywnej, liberalnej oraz pragmatycznej. Przesądy obecne w każdej z nich decydują o stosunku do prawdy/wartości oraz pełnionych przez nie funkcji w procesach poznawczych. Z przedstawionych obserwacji wynika bowiem, że prawda/prawdy/wartości okazują się w zasadzie retorycznymi argumentami wykorzystywanymi w sporach między konkurencyjnymi wizjami/wizerunkami przeszłości/świata. Ich funkcje sprowadza się do umacniania/kreowania autorytetu Historyka, a w konsekwencji do prowadzenia (właściwej) polityki historycznej.

    Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941), at about the start of the nineteenth century, was advocat‐ ing that the study about religion has to be included in university‐level education in the East. The university he envisioned and founded (Visva‐Bharati) included in its curriculum such a study. Shortly a er India’s regaining independence in 1947 and becoming a secular state, that institution was inaugurated as a central university with an advanced institute for philosophy and the study of religion. This essay answers whether his understanding of studying religion would accommodate the approach to the academic study of religion associated with the mod‐ ern Western research university. It also inquires the extent that the curriculum for the study of religion at Visva‐Bharati evidences such an approach. The answers it advances draw primarily on his two essays, Eastern University and Hindu University, which o er his vision of univer‐ sity level education; on commissioned reports for higher level education in the new India as a secular state; on developments in the academic study of religion in the West, especially the United States; on the relatively recent revised curriculum for such a study at Visva‐Bharati University; and on ideas of social imaginary and the comparative study of religion articulated by Western scholars.
