Opis:
This paper explores the issue of mock and parody religions, which is considered today as a interesting phenomenon among the new religious movements. Mock religions can be aimed at a particular religion or belief system, or they might encapsulate several selected elements of various religions. With humor as a common denominator, they have a large presence in the new media and some researchers consider them foremostly as Internet religions in contrast to more traditional and well institutionally rooted denominations. This paper reveals however the fact, that that these new religious movements can be also regarded as a reflection of the cultural condition modern societies live in and as such they might be analysed through cultural studies. In effect we can say that mock religions emphasize the personal and indivualistic approach to religion and spirituality in general.

The register of churches and other religious organizations conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration in 2020 indicated 168 positions, however, it does not differentiate recorded communities in any other way than chronological. Moreover, the oldest and the biggest of them, the Roman Catholic Church whose relations with the state are stipulated by the Concordat, and fifteen denominations whose activity is regulated by the separate acts, are not included in the register. The article is divided into two parts: the arranged by sections list of all churches and religious organizations that have entered into legal relations with the Polish state, and the commentary of this listing. The aim of the article is to recognize religious rules that lie behind a doctrine of each particular church or religious organization, as the very names of them often do not contain the information about their tenets. The key criterion of the division was religious doctrine. Organizational dimension and religious practices were taken into account as the distinguishing criteria only in cases when they constituted an essential differentiator of belonging and identity of a particular group. The list is the most current recorded knowledge about the religious minorities that came into legal relation with the Polish state.

The aim of the article is to present the religious context of conspiracy theories in relation to monotheistic and quasi-religious religions (secular ideologies and ufological movements). The conspiracy theories are usually not falsified on the basis of fact explanation, but can be understood from the perspective of cultural studies and religious studies. Their influence is particularly strong in the area of contemporary popular culture, but also in the area of religious doctrines and narratives with conspiracy threads. It is also impossible to fully study this phenomenon without considering the problem of mediatization of religions. This is due to the fact that various conspiracy theories appear parallel to the process of transferring religion into the media space.

Achenaten
Opis:
33,000 years ago, 15,000 people, or perhaps 20,000 or a little more, following their king, began to settle a wide and hitherto unoccupied desert portion on the Nile in Middle Egypt. This place, a place of sunrise, was later termed Achet-Aton ‘Horizon of the Sun-disk’, a sacred territory dedicated to the sun god Aten, by Akhenaten (‘devoted to the Aten’) otherwise Amenhotep IV (1347-1332 BC). The focus of this article is to engage with the controversy surrounding the exclusivism of the god Aten. We will propose that King Achenaten intended to create a sacred space for the god Aten, confining the new religion to the site of Akhet-Aten. Akhet-Aten was not conceived of as a typical city (in the modern sense), but was essentially a royal residence with a tract of sacred land attached, with a new style of ceremonial architecture, as for example The Long Temple, the field of offering-tables, and a string of courts open to the sky, where many ceremonies were held in the open sunlight. The huge enclosure the Great Aton Temple was surely designed to accommodate large crowds of people.         In the context of the territory surrounding the city, the positions of the boundary stelae make it clear that the sacred territory took was not only determined by the King’s religious vision. The visual arts, and in particular the architecture, were embedded in a sacred geography and landscape. The complex became an extraordinary tool to dramatize Akhenaten’s authority.

This article presents the religious aspects of the community of emigrants from the British Isles, mainly Scots, in Gdańsk. They tried to provide for their religious needs already in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the existence of chapels and altars in some of the churches in Gdansk. After the success of the Reformation, mainly Scottish Presbyterians settled in Gdansk. Clergymen from their home country were brought in for their ministry. Both the Presbyterian clergy and the wealthy Scottish merchant elite of this denomination ruled the sacred building acquired in 1707, called the English Church. However, only few of the Presbyterians living in Gdansk identified with this building - according to legal arrangements, having the character of an “ethnic” temple - together with the Anglicans. Most Scots - by entering into family relationships - slowly melted into the community of the city on the Motława, using other Calvinist facilities. In addition to Presbyterians and very few Anglicans and Catholics there, English radicals, Chialists and Quakers, also tried to settle in Gdansk, but the city's unfavourable legislation and deterrent actions effectively prevented this transfer.

The present paper proposes a paradigm to understand the evolution of religious behaviour specifically Jewish religious practice. The theoretical framework rests upon a combination of reciprocal altruism, costly signal theory and cognitive dissonance. It assumes evolutionary theory in general and mimetic evolution in particular. It is unique to the degree that it is authored by an evolutionary psychologist who is also a rabbi. We present the foundations of the three bio-psychological theories; and address Dawkins’ and Dennett’s theories of the scientific study of religion as well as some of the reservations. Finally, we examine briefly certain Jewish rituals in light of the model presented.

Starting from the judgement of Parmenides that there is existence but non-existence is not, the author discusses the issues of existence in Parmenides. This subject is examined not only as an ontological problem (what is existence per se), but also as an epistemological problem. Using Parmenides' thesis of the cognisability of 'non-existence', the author considers the problem of the legitimacy of the concept of 'non-existence' (how is it possible to perceive something which is not there), making use of the conception of modi existentiae (real existence, intentional existence). The problem of the complexity and simplicity of existence is also considered. Alongside the perception of existence as that which is absolutely simple, he also considers as possible the equally gentle, emergent and organicistic interpretation of the conception of existence according to Parmenides. At the same time, the contemplations in the article aim to show in what way the problem of existence as formulated by Parmenides has for centuries inspired philosophy and continues to do so.

Opis:
An effect of the revision of the secularisation thesis is an array of conceptions attempting to capture the essence of the modern transformations of religions and the shape of non-traditional forms of religiosity. The concept of '(new) spirituality', which is supposed to signal a new religious megatrend, today aspires to the role of 'universal key' to contemporary analysis of religion. The aim of this article is to attempt to clarify the meaning of this term by reconstructing the origins of spirituality - the phenomenon itself as well as the term used to describe it. The concepts used to describe this subject are ordered in the sequence religion - religiosity - spirituality, which also corresponds to the direction of religious transformations in the West. The course of these changes is presented in a three-phase model of the origins of new spirituality based on the metaphor of change of the concentration of religious material: from the solid body, via fluid form to a gaseous state. This model is diachronic in character, but is also a reflection of synchronic order (the spectrum whose poles correspond to traditional religion and new spirituality).

The analysis is focused on the other aspects of banking activities, such as saving, investing, and institutional development of the banking sector as well. The author underlines the far-reaching convergence between religions in this area, in spite of the considerable variation in historical and geographical conditions of their formation. The importance of cultural (religious) differences, including the nuances or more fundamental aspects, has a significant impact on bank management in different regions. For successful development, large multinational corporations have to take into consideration the abovementioned circumstances, regardless of globalization processes.

Up to Vatican II, the main goal of the mission was the salvation of people who did not believe in Christ. The Council’s recognition of the presence of elements of truth, good and authentic holiness in religions posed a question about the sense of mission in a new light. The result was modern departure from salvific ecclesiocentricism and return to christocentrism in theology. In the light of modern theology of religion, no formal membership of the Church is necessary for salvation. The mission’s purpose, however, is first and foremost plantatio Ecclesiae. The Church’s presence as a trader of revelation and mediator of saving grace is necessary for the full salvation of the world. Role of the Church is analogous to the role of Christ himself and is exhausted in being a universal sacrament of salvation for all humanity, i.e. in uniting people with God and among themselves.

Opis:
The Holy See is the central office of the Roman-Catholic Church and its scope encompasses all the dimensions of the Church: spiritual, theological, legal, and material. Culture is one of the areas in which the Holy See, headed by its supreme authority, the Pontiff, is particularly involved since culture constitutes the space where individuals and particular communities live. As it fulfils its mission in the modern world, the Church encounters various religions and world-views. For several decades the Church has conducted missionary activity in Africa, where about 30% of the total population are followers of traditional African religions, and the lives of 50% are influenced by them. The lack of Holy Scriptures is the distinguishing trait of these religions as the peoples observing them are illiterate. They show great respect for the elders, who uphold the tradition, and for life. Religion in Africa can be regarded as part of culture, which does not view sacrum and profanum as opposites. In the last decades of the 20th century and at the turn of the 21st century, the Catholic Church adopted the paradigm of dialogue as a means of relating to the religious tradition and the culture of Africa. While pursuing this dialogue, the Church follows the guide- lines of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), including the Nostra aetate Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions. The Holy See has promulgated a number of documents referring to Africa's traditional religions and cultures. John Paul II signed the Ecclesia in Africa Apostolic Exhortation, and Benedict XVI issued the Africae munus Apostolic Exhortation. The Apostolic documents focus on various of African religions and cultures - such as family, community, ancestors, and faith in God - which can become the subject of dialogue. The documents of the Church emphasise the positive traits shared by all African religions in the sphere of religion, rituals, morals, culture and society. The Holy See proclaims documents and engages in practical activities with a view to overcoming divisions in Africa and building the community of reconciliation, the "new" Africa.

The paper delivers not only a detailed analysis of kopimism itself but also gives insight into selected aspects of the entanglement of religion and the internet today. In effect, we may also gain an interesting picture of how modern religiosity is articulated and constructed through the use of media and technological tools and how technology is being sacralized, blurring the traditional understanding of religion itself.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to prove the permanent presence of the Traditional African Religions (TARs) in the complex and versatile dynamic of religious innovations in today’s Black Africa. Cultures and religious of the Africa's territories located in the south of Sahara are often perceived from the point of view of the first travellers' idealised generalisations. Yet, TARs do function nowadays in a space traced by an enduring influence of Christianity, Islam and multi- aspect modernism - effectively fragmenting traditional holistic systems. The research on the Black Africa's religious phenomenon confirms the TARs' commendable ability to adapt to new social and political structures of the post-colonial Africa. The TARs' permanent vitality is proved by statistics - yet they require a special interpretation. On the basis of David Barret's research (World Christian Encyclopedia, Oxford, 2001), 12.3% of the Black Africa's population declare their affiliation with the ancestors' religions. However, it should be indicated that the data do not represent the phenomenon, which I name with the term „double religious affiliation" or „double religious fidelity:" African Christians and Muslims simultaneously keep a strong relationship with the ancestors' religions. The double religious affiliation is an origin to new religious syntheses about Messianic aspirations, e.g. kimbangism, amicalism, mpadism and others. TARs is a factor that continuously integrates African traditions.

Opis:
The article tries to show Harasymowicz as a poet working under the influence of two cultures. In his poetry relations of Polish and Ukrainian cultures are shown on the cultural and historical background, which are even evident in his first volume of poetry which was published in 1956. The geographical area of the Carpathian mountains and Low Beskids hold a special place in his poetry. Family tradition, objectivity of the poet and his delight in mountain scenery for „the dream and a fairy-tale world” created a metaphorical image of the area and people living in it.

The attitude towards death and dying reflects the society’s view on a human being as a subject. Due to the progress in medical science a growing interest has been observed in the problem of death, including the right to dignified dying. One of the issues connected with the phenomenon of dying is the problem of euthanasia seen as one’s right to decide on one’s own death in extreme cases. The question of the legality of euthanasia is becoming a subject of consideration more and more often, which is a result of a celebratory culture of death and the obsolescence of faith and religious practice. The aim of the following report is to show the attitude of major religions of the world towards euthanasia. What arguments of religious nature are against the legality of mercy killing? Both Christian and non-Christian religions rise to speak on the matter. All religions stress their veto over mercy killing, justifying their view in various ways. Christians claim that God is the donor and lord of life; a man cannot decide on ending human life as he or she is only the user, not the owner of it. Judaism assumes that human life has an absolute value, is sacred, untouchable, as God’s gift. Islam, quoting Koran, also preserves life as God’s gift. According to Buddhist ethics, the annihilation of both one’s own and someone else’s life is the worst of evil deeds. Will the arguments of religious nature mean enough to stop the legality of euthanasia?

Opis:
The article aims to present Joseph Ratzinger’s thought in the field of theology of religions, according to which both the salvific universality of Christ and the necessity of the Church for the salvation of every man (and thereby the deepest meaning of being Christian) appear inseparably. The author shows how Ratzinger outlines a vision with two focal points: the objective aspect of salvation with the theological understanding of the vicarious representation of Christ (and the Church with him) and the subjective conditions of salvation with a reflection on the human being. In the article, it is thus demonstrated how an essential salvific relationship – a synthesis of faith and love – can be established between man and God. It is further shown that Ratzinger also highlights the role which Christianity, together with world religions, can play in the common search for the truth about God and man, contributing to the unity of the human family. The article concludes with an observation that the depth of Ratzinger’s reflection on the question of salvation contributes to illuminating fundamental aspects of the complex theological problem of religions.

Opis:
This study attempts to answer the question of the origin of religion – un-derstood as a human reference to God – both in the sense of searching for a temporal beginning of religion and for its very earliest, primitive form. This inquiry not only has historical significance, but through seeking the essence of religion, it is also relevant to contemporary religious experience. The starting point is the statement that the foundation of religion is not an experience of lack or deficiency, as asserted by Ludwig Feuerbach and atheistic thought in general, but the experience of a God who manifests himself to humans as a “hidden power.” In this view, humanity is not the cause, but a condition for the rise of religion. Discerning the origin of religion is methodologically complex, requiring the interplay of various fields of study: the philosophy of religion, paleontology, anthropology, archeology, linguistics, theology etc. In its original, primitive shape, religion was a non-rational, pre-conceptual realization of – to use Rudolph Otto’s term – the “numinous,” an experience of a terrifying and fascinating divine reality (misterium tremendum et fascinosum). Because there is no empirical evidence of pre-historic man’s religious experience or practice, tracing the origin of religion is nothing more than rational speculation. However, by tracing man and his ancestors, we can confidently state that 40-60 thousand years before Christ humans like us existed, thus implying that a form of the “numinous feeling” existed in prehistoric human beings. Based on the study of the structure of language, the study of contemporary hunter-gatherer cultures and the oldest recorded forms of religion, it is likely that the first name given to God is “Father-Heaven”.

Sociological theory of evolution of religions, like theory of religious economy, adopts supply-side perspective on religious phenomena. It allows to redefine a problem of religious faith in terms of veracity, asking first “whom people believe” and “why him” before “who believes.” But taken in a perspective of system-theory, the veracity reveals its two-fold character. Religious organisation depends on its veracity in relation to its own believers but in different way its subsistence is conditioned by relations with other, non-religious actors in social environment, such as media, political or economic organisations. In this context, veracity becomes credibility. The paper argues that efforts made during Vatican II council to restore an external credibility had far-reaching consequences leading to erosion of internal veracity. Increase of transparency manifested in greater openness to mass-media, abandonment of claims to exclusivity in relations to the political sphere could cause a short-term crisis, but acceptance of the idea of ecumenism (which strongly silenced claims to be the only depositary of religious truth) and openness to scholarly inquiry on the very foundations of catholic dogmas, i.e. Bible and Tradition had much more important unintended effects. Questioning historical reliability of the New Testament (Jesuit Superior General Sosa Abascal noticed recently that “no one had a recorder to take down his words”) and faithfulness of transfer of the apostolic traditions resulted in gradual erosion of conviction in truthfulness of their own doctrine among catholic clergy or, at least, to uncertainty and doubt. It deprived them in their ability to enthuse their flock with faith and to lead their life in consistency with their own teachings.
