The author presents poetry by Kamila Janiak in the context of avant-guard pop-culture. She deals mainly with punk and cyber-punk motifs of this poetry, which alow to understand them as a feminist, post-human and anty-capitalist project. She shows how Janiak for her purposes uses d.tournements: she takes on the one hand principles, which rule in the “controlled societies” and on the other hand pop-culture aesthetics and psychodelic rock music.

Artykuł przedstawia początki polskiego ruchu punk na tle specyficznej sytuacji społeczno – politycznej, którą można określić mianem „kryzysu nowej umowy społecznej”. Tekst próbuje odpowiedzieć, w jaki sposób permanentny kryzys, w jakim znajdowała się Polska na przełomie lat 70. i 80. XX w., wpłynął na rozwój nowej kontrkultury. Prezentuje kluczowe zespoły pierwszej fali polskiego punk rocka oraz sylwetki głównych uczestników zjawiska wraz z ich profilem socjologicznym. Ponadto artykuł podejmuje kwestię stosunku polskiego ruchu punkowego do władzy ludowej oraz opozycji politycznej.
This article presents the rudiments of Polish punk movement, including thesocial and political background which can be defined as “acrisis of thenew social contract”. It tries to explain how the crisis situation in the late 1970’s and the early 1980’s contributed to the development of a new counterculture in Poland. It shows the most important bands of the Polish punk’s first wave and also thefigures of themain participants of this phenomenon with their sociological profile. Finally,thearticle discusses the Polish punk movement’s attitude to communist government and thedemocratic opposition.

There are connections between the re-birth of anarchism as a social movement in the 1960s and the emergence of music and youth subcultures around the same time. This chapter explores these relations pointing out to more than simple time correlation between the two processes. The paper looks at which elements of the new wave of anarchist movement resonate the best with the D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) punk and hardcore music scenes. The paper investigates not only organizational dimensions of the connections, but also looks at the spatial aspect.

The aim of this article is to present youth subcultures, which still have not been analyzed deep enough by social scientists. While new types of subcultures are forming around the world, ‘classic’ subcultures are still very interesting. This article presents norms and values of three youth subcultures in the changing modern world. They were called symbolic subcultures (T. Paleczny, 1997). This article is based on 21 in-depth interviews done in 2009 with members of three subcultures - Skinheads, Punks and Metalheads. Skinheads and Punks were chosen to this analysis because they seems to be opponents in their values. Metalheads in literature are described as those without any specific value. However this research did not confirm this fact. This article shows what are the most important things in subcultures' members' lifes and what kind of rules dominate their social world.

Representatives of the Polish punk-rock scene were careful observers of political, social and economic unrest in the world since the late 1970s and in the 1980s. A large part of the texts, written at that time, aptly commented on the tragic events in the world. Unfortunately, some of them haven’t lost their validity, like the song by KSU entitled ‘Liban’ [‘Lebanon’], or by the band ‘Brak’ [‘The Lack’] entitled ‘Na Bliskim Wschodzie wszystko w porządku’ [‘In the Middle East Everything’s All Right’]. After 1989, more songs, referring to various old or new threats in the world, were written. Songs, produced within the punk scene, describe the problems of political, economic and social nature, which remain unresolved. Authors, such as Maciej Augustyn, Krzysztof Grabowski, Kazik Staszewski not only point to the genesis of security problems in the world, but sometimes predict the consequences of such events in a broader perspective. Surprisingly, anticipations of some authors who are not political scientists or sociologists, come true more frequently than scientific analyses made by security experts. Suffice it to say that almost at the same time when Fukuyma guaranteed that happiness of humanity would be manifested in liberal democracy, Staszewski and Grabowski warned people of imminent wars, crises, a new division of the world and exploitation.

The aim of the paper is to present punk cabaret — a new musical phenomenon on the music scene of the English-speaking countries. The author briefly presents its main representatives and cultural contexts, which is followed by an attempt to define the constitutive features of the genre in its musical, performative, and textual aspects. The former consist of prominent vocals, displaying both lyrical finesse and raw, punk-inspired force, with scant accompaniment evoking circus music and pre-war cabaret. Performance, playing a significant role in the genre, adds campy aesthetics and vintage flair. The textual layer, in turn, is characterised by dark humour, moral irreverence, disrespect for the established aesthetic canon, and the orientation towards social margins. All these facets — auditory, visual, and textual — are considered as inseparably intertwined and mutually interrelated in a constant play of contextualisation and allusions, with sound playing a vital role in text interpretation.

The article is showing the presence of vulgar expressions in song lyrics. This is a clear testimony to the changes in the customs and language of culture of recent decades. The paradox is that the development of negative phenomena can contribute to events naturally valued positively, such as expanding the sphere of freedom together with the birth of “Solidarity” or the abolition of the censorship institution with the transformation after 1989. Vulgarism today, after more than a quarter of a century since the release of language from the “care” of censorship, is intensively present in songs that many Poles find important. This stylistic device helps to express and shapes the expressed emotions, describe reality, and it is a manifestation of the generational fear of the sublime. The text discusses the songs of authors such as: Andrzej Garczarek, Jacek Kaczmarski, Kazik Staszewski, Krzysztof Grabowski (Grabaż), Marcin Świetlicki, Hubert Dobaczewski (Spięty), Paweł Sołtys (Pablopavo).

W artykule analizowane są dwa utwory punkowego zespołu The Analogs: Idole i Latarnia. Analiza przeprowadzana jest w kontekście edukacyjnym. Autorzy ulokowali swoją dociekania w ramach publicznych pedagogii, zakładając, że przestrzeń kultury popularnej jest istotna dla kształtowania się człowieka. Idole i Latarnia podejmują tematykę autorytetu. Autorzy zastanawiają się jaka wizja autorytetu jest promowana we wspomnianych utworach. Dokonując pracy blisko tekstu i odnoszą się do tradycji kulturowej w której utwory zostały napisane. Następnie wykorzystują pracę Lecha Witkowskiego do osadzenia refleksji w polu pedagogicznym. Autorzy wskazują, że po pierwsze, odrzucony zostaje idol jako fałszywa forma autorytetu; po drugie, wskazują na konieczność pracy nad sobą – utwór Latarnia podkreśla wagę samodzielności. Latarnia jako forma autorytetu osadzona jest w realnych osiągnięciach danej jednostki, jej sztuki życia. Latarnia nie jawi się jako idol, ale raczej jako ktoś, kim ma, może, stać się inny podmiot. Wizja autorytetu jaka wyłania się z analizowanych tekstów czerpie z tradycji anarchistycznych. Wizja ta jest ciekawą propozycją wychodzącą poza afirmację czy odrzucenie autorytetów, gdzie autorytet nie jest powiązany z posłuszeństwem, ale wspiera autonomię, samodzielność jednostki, namawiając ją do odwagi bycia wśród sztormów i niezłomnego przedzierania się przez burze.
The article analyzes two songs by the punk band The Analogs: Idole and Latarnia. The analysis is carried out in an educational context. The authors located their inquiry within the framework of public pedagogies, assuming that the space of popular culture is important for the formation of a person. Idols and Latarnia deal with the topic of authority. The authors wonder what vision of authority is promoted in the mentioned works. By making the work close to the text and referring to the cultural tradition in which the works were written. They then use the work of Lech Witkowski to embed reflection in the pedagogical field. The authors point out that, firstly, the idol is rejected as a false form of authority; secondly, they indicate the need to work on yourself - the song Latarnia emphasizes the importance of independence. The Lighthouse as a form of authority is embedded in the real achievements of a given individual, his or her art of life. Lighthouse does not appear as an idol, but rather as someone that another entity has or can become. The vision of authority that emerges from the analyzed texts draws from anarchist traditions. This vision is an interesting proposition that goes beyond the affirmation or rejection of authorities, where authority is not associated with obedience, but supports the autonomy and self-reliance of the individual, encouraging him to have the courage to be among the storms and steadfastly fight through the storms.

The paper is an analysis of the “Siksa” duet’s work, The Patriotism of Tomorrow (2018) deeply rooted in a contemporary feministic punk culture. The author looks at the work from a genre studies perspective, finding a genological novum (basing on E. Balcerzan’s theory of “multimedia genology”). The analysis of the work (a verbal-musical collage), consists of the search for its genological place in contemporary engaged culture. The author demonstrates that the uniqueness of its genre frames is not wide enough to be described as “antigenre” or “authorial genre”, the terms introduced by Polish scientists; he suggests that the term “post-genre” ought to be used instead.

Underground music scene in SilesiaUpper Silesia is usually associated with the historical land situated in southern Poland with highly developed industry, mainly mines and steelworks. The inhabitants of Upper Silesia are perceived as conservatist. In spite of that, it is Upper Silesia, precisely Gliwice, where the most vigorous underground music scene in communist Poland was created at the beginning of the 1980s. The Gliwice Alternative Scene was focused around student clubs in Gliwice with „Gwarek” as the representative one. In this article we will show the artistic legacy of chosen musical bands from GAS such as Smierc Kliniczna, R.A.P., Absurd, Processs, Brzytwa Ojca. In particular we will analyze the lyrics and quote interviews with the musicians from the before mentioned bands. We will therefore demonstrate that the Gliwice Alternative Scene was not only an alternative to the blues scene, which was very popular in Upper Silesia, but also through the fusion of punk, reggae and new wave as well as unconventional, radical lyrics, it stood out among other bands which created the Polish underground musical scene of the 1980s. In terms of its social impact, it was a “niche within a niche”. Finally, it is worth noting that the Gliwice Alternative Scene was beyond censorship and the dominant communist discourse. Underground po ŚląskuGliwicka Alternatywna Scena (GAS) była jednym z najprężniej rozwijających się środowisk alternatywnego rocka w Polsce lat 80. Organizowała się od początku tamtej dekady w gliwickich klubach studenckich, z których najbardziej emblematycznym miejscem okazał się „Gwarek”. Najważniejszymi zespołami GAS były: Śmierć Kliniczna, R.A.P., Absurd, Processs, Brzytwa Ojca. W tekście skupiamy się w szczególności na analizie tekstów piosenek wymienionych zespołów oraz treści wywiadów narracyjnych, prasowych, radiowych przeprowadzonych z muzykami współtworzącymi GAS. Wynika z nich, że opisywane przez nas zjawisko dobrze oddawało ducha całej polskiej alternatywy ostatniej dekady PRL, jak i pozostawało fenomenem specyficznym w skali regionalnej.

Abstrakt W artykule rekonstruujemy rozumienie dziecka i dzieciństwa u utworach The Analogs. Przy wykorzystaniu neoklasycznege czytania i traktowania tekstu jako Innego, ukazujemy najpierw scenerię dzieciństwa, następnie pytamy o relacje z dorosłym, na koniec zastanawiamy się czy istnieje w tej narracji szczęśliwe dzieciństwo. Dzieciństwo w utworach The Analogs jest prezentowane w szarości, powiązane z przemocą i rzeczami przynależnymi do świata dorosłych. Nie ma też ostrej granicy między dzieckiem a dorosłym. Dzieciństwo to przedsionek piekła na które skazani są urodzeni w złym czasie. Na koniec wskazujemy, że wizja dzieciństwa w utworach The Analogs nie wpisuje się w dominujące dyskursy o dziecku i stawia zadania, które rozwiązać może pedagogika krytyczna.
In the article we reconstruct the understanding of a child and childhood in the works of The Analogs. Using neoclassical reading and treating the text as the Other, we first show the scenery of childhood. We ask about relationships with adults, and finally, we wonder whether there is a happy childhood in this narrative. Childhood in The Analogs’ songs is presented in grey and is associated with violence and things belonging to the world of adults. There is no sharp boundary between a child and an adult. Childhood is a vestibule of hell to which those born at the wrong time are condemned. Finally, we point out that the vision of childhood in the works of The Analogs does not fit into the dominant discourses about children and poses tasks that can be solved by critical pedagogy.

The goal of this article is to present the main theoretical and methodological assumptions of an international research project on the educational contexts of cultural resistance in Poland and Portugal. In this article, we will first analyse, in a resumed way, the various lines of thought related to cultural resistance, radical democracy critical pedagogy; then we will present an example of a critical pedagogy, the punk pedagogy, in order to demonstrate that the reality we describe is not only present at the abstract level; then, and finally, we proceed with the research methodology that we intend to trigger in order to analyse the educational contexts of cultural resistance in Portugal and Poland. In this article we are talking about two countries with very dissonant stories. Even today, in the context of membership of the European Union, the course of both countries seems to diverge. However, we argue that the comparison between these two distant and different countries may open new perspectives on the contexts of cultural resistance and critical pedagogy. Like the example of punk, these practices of cultural resistance can serve as a way to empower active civic and political participation, going beyond the simple act of voting every four years and promoting a radical democracy.

Zgodnie z przyjętą tezą sposób wymowy w śpiewie może łączyć się z przekazaniem określonych – potencjalnie ewoluujących – znaczeń społecznych bądź stylistycznych, a w przypadku anglojęzycznego polskiego punk rocka znaczenia te zależne są od nurtów omawianego gatunku. Wymowa większości wykonawców charakteryzuje się wyraźnym wpływem języka polskiego i niewystylizowanym brzmieniem, a cechy cockneya kojarzone z klasycznym punkiem pojawiają się rzadko.
The paper analyzes the functioning of selected English phonetic features and inspirations related to them in Polish punk rock, and interprets the results in a broader stylistic and sociolinguistic context. It is based on the thesis that pronunciation in singing is often connected to expressing specific, potentially evolving social or stylistic meanings, and in the case of Anglophone Polish punk rock these meanings depend on trends within the genre. In most analyzed cases, English pronunciation displays a lot of interference from Polish and an unstylized sound, while features associated with Cockney are quite rare.
