Opis:
W artykule zwrócono uwagę na kilka czynników, których negatywne oddziaływanie da się zaobserwować w kształceniu przyszłych psychologów oraz w uprawianiu praktyki psychologicznej w Polsce. Do najważniejszych czynników zagrażających autor zaliczył: Systematyczne obniżanie standardów akademickich; „zaśmiecanie” psychologii pseudonaukowymi koncepcjami. 2. Umasowienie studiów psychologicznych. 3. Brak wyraźnych kryteriów dopuszczających (odrzucających) do wykonywania zawodu psychologa; obniżanie rangi społecznej zawodu. 4. Brak merytorycznej (ustawowo zagwarantowanej) kontroli nad instytucjami prowadzącymi szkolenia i kursy psychologiczne; żerowanie na naiwności studentów i młodych, jeszcze niedoświadczonych, absolwentów. 5.
The article focuses on several factors whose negative influence can be observed in the process of educating future psychologists and in the psychological practice in Poland. The following are regarded by the author as the most detrimental: The systematic lowering of academic standards; infusing psychology with pseudo-scientific concepts. 2. The transition from elite to mass education at psychological studies. 3. The absence of clear-cut criteria granting or refusing admission to the profession of psychologist; the increasing devaluation of the profession’s status. 4. The lack of substantive (statutorily guaranteed) control over the institutions which offer psychological trainings and courses; preying on the naivety of students and young, inexperienced graduates. 5. Too liberal policy of the state concerning the setting up of new major courses in psychology by newly established schools and offering by various academic institutions BA courses with the word “psychology” in the course title, which suggests that the graduates will possess qualifications in psychology entitling them to render psychological services. 6. The lowering of the criteria assessing the effects of education (examinations, credits). 7. The lack of balance in the assessment of academics – the assessment of research performance is more important than judging the standard of teaching. 8. Recurrent attempts at implementing the Bologna system into the organisation of psychological studies (the two cycles system – Bachelor/Master). It is the author’s aim to draw the attention of Polish psychologists to the potential threats which may impact the level of research performance, the standard of teaching, and psychological practice.

The rapid inventions of social media in current era have changed the wellbeing of human lives. The current study aimed to explore the correlation between social media usage and undergraduate students’ psychological wellbeing in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Two research instruments were used in this study Social Media Addiction Scale-Student Form (SMAS-SF) and Flourishing Scale (FS). The first scale measures the usage capacity of social media and the second measures the psychological wellbeing of undergraduate students. The correlation between the scores obtained from the scales was determined by applying Pearson correlation formula. The positive correlation between social media usage and psychological wellbeing of undergraduate students has been found in this study. The other finding related to most preferred social media concluded that WhatsApp was most preferable social media among undergraduate students. 61% undergraduate students used the WhatsApp to engage their daily life in using social media.

Opis:
A specific problem in the work of a psychologist is caring for the voluntary participation of patients and clients in research. The first part of the article presents and scientifically analyzed the term "voluntary". The concept in opposition to voluntariness is arbitrariness. An arbitrary person is characterized by an optional attitude. Voluntariness, in turn, is an attitude of active participation in one's own life and the surrounding reality. The second part of the article deals with the issue of voluntariness in psychological research. The psychologist must obtain an informed and voluntary decision by the patient regarding his or her participation in the research. The examined person has the right to withdraw from the research at any time. People addicted to alcohol and drugs constitute a specific research group. In the third part of the article, attention was paid to voluntary research of students and children. A special place and significance is played by voluntary activity in research conducted by an academic psychologist on their own students. Voluntariness in children involves not only the cognitive but also the emotional sphere. Therefore, the psychologist must first obtain the child's parents' written consent to participate in the research.

Hand grip strength
Opis:
Background The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of hand grip strength (HGS) test in identifying highly stressed individuals and to examine the effect of exercise and lifestyle on HGS and stress measures. Material and methods It is cross-sectional study. Students of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Poland were asked to fill out a questionnaire, undergo body composition analysis, perform HGS test and provide a saliva sample for cortisol measurement. Results Self-rated stress (SRS) was significantly higher in pre-clinical years (PCY) compared to clinical years (CY). HGS was significantly lower in PCY males than CY males. Participants who performed some form of exercise had significantly higher HGS compared with those who did not exercise. A positive correlation between HGS and BMI was noted. Students with low HGS were found to have lower levels of salivary cortisol (SC). However, there was no significant difference in SC levels between PCY and CY students. Conclusions HGS may be a reliable method of identifying stressed individuals and promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors. HGS testing is a safe, cheap and easy to perform method for a large number of participants while being time economical.

ObjectivesMedical students suffer from a considerable level of stress, which can result in the deterioration of their mental health, including depression or suicidal ideation. They are afraid to seek help due to stigmatization and environmental ostracism. The goal of the study is to analyze the psychological support and stress management programs for students supported by medical schools in PolandMaterial and MethodsThe authors sent out e-mails with 9 questions regarding the issue being analyzed to all 19 medical schools in Poland. They obtained answers from 15 such schools, which corresponds to a response rate of 79%. The study was conducted in 2018–2019, before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.ResultsDue to the lack of central regulations, support is provided by medical schools individually. Those solutions focus on short-term, temporary therapy. If a longer therapy is needed, students are redirected to external health providers. Moreover, information about the support is not transferred by student-friendly communication channels. Conclusions: Support should be flexible, and it should quickly adapt to the emerging trends and consider students’ feedback. A future model of psychological support could be a center organized as a transfer point between a university problem-solving facility and external health providers, concentrating on short-term activity. Quick support would eliminate potential complications and more serious mental problems.

Opis:
Pop psychologia to zjawisko budzące skrajne emocje. Najchętniej wybierane do zdefiniowania pojęcia to: fobia, anoreksja, depresja, narcyzm, empatia. Z kolei pojęcia o najwyższym zadeklarowanym poziomie wiedzy to: depresja, manipulacja, fobia, myślenie pozytywne, orientacja seksualna.
Pop psychology is a phenomenon that evokes extreme emotions. Myths that work to the detriment of the recipients get into the general consciousness. Of course, there are also valuable items that have the hallmarks of pop psychology. Therefore, the ability to think critically and search for reliable knowledge is important. Can students do it? They receive relatively little psychological education in schools, so if they want to learn something in this matter, they must use the knowledge available outside traditional education. In order to determine the psychological knowledge of adolescents, a CAWI quantitative study was conducted using the Qualtrics tool on a sample of 204 secondary school students. The main research problem is: What is the state of knowledge of secondary school students? Research questions: How much psychological knowledge do secondary school students have? From which source(s) do students mainly obtain psychological knowledge? Do secondary school students agree with the statement that psychological knowledge is useful in their lives? The study shows that students’ knowledge is at a relatively good level (the average value of the indicator on a scale of 1–3 was 1.94). The most frequently chosen terms to define are: phobia, anorexia, depression, narcissism, empathy. In turn, the concepts with the highest declared level of knowledge are: depression, manipulation, phobia, positive thinking, sexual orientation. The vast majority of students (91%) see the usefulness of psychological knowledge in their lives. They obtain it mainly from the Internet (71% from websites, 69% from social media), and much less often from school (29%). The school has the opportunity to equip students with reliable psychological knowledge during one of the most important (from the point of view of human development) periods in lives. Therefore, it is worth taking systemic actions that will enable students to navigate the world efficiently and understand themselves as best as possible.

Numerous technopreneurs start their ventures at college age, but the entrepreneurship of computer and electrical engineering (CEE) students remains under-studied. This study analysed both the combined and interactive effects of psychological factors on the entrepreneurial intentions of CEE students. In this study, entrepreneurial intention comprised two dimensions, conviction and preparation. Regarding the direct effects, the results indicated that self-efficacy affected entrepreneurial conviction the most, followed by negative emotion, intrinsic motivation, and metacognition. Negative emotion affected entrepreneurial preparation the most, followed by self-efficacy and positive emotion. The results also revealed several crucial interactive effects resulting from psychological factors. An increase in cognitive load increased the entrepreneurial intention of students exhibiting high intrinsic motivation and reduced the intention of students exhibiting low intrinsic motivation. An increase in metacognition increased the entrepreneurial conviction of students exhibiting either high or low intrinsic motivation. An increase in positive emotion reduced the entrepreneurial intention of students exhibiting high negative emotion and increased the intention of students exhibiting low negative emotion. An increase in self-efficacy increased the entrepreneurial intention of students exhibiting either high or low negative emotion.

Over the last years, the Supreme Audit Office has conducted several audits related to selected elements of schools’ activities in similar areas. These audits confirmed, among others, the ineffectiveness of school pathologies prevention, emerging new dangers (e.g. cyberbullying), and insufficient support for talented students. NIK also negatively assessed the way in which the Minister of National Education performed the tasks set out in the National Programme for Mental Health Protection. The audit showed that in the years 2011-2015 the Minister realised only two out of nine tasks related to mental health promotion and mental disorders prevention that the Ministry was obliged to fulfil. As a result, NIK carried out a comprehensive follow up audit aimed both at examining the scope of psychological assistance provided to pupils, and at presenting the way in which the functioning of schools has an impact on their mental health.
