    The paper discusses the influence of FaceReader-coded emotional arousal and valence on the effectiveness of civic education. The experimental design allowed the authors to observe relationships between emotional responsiveness and memorisation, attitude change, and prosocial behaviour. In the study with 90 adult participants, we video-recorded facial expressions while watching three parallel versions of a narrative on anti-communist opposition in Poland. The analysis of collected data suggested that emotional arousal is associated with prosocial behaviour and the valence of signalling with an attitude change, while cognitive effects are not related to emotional responsiveness. Moreover, civic education depends on the triad of emotions: sadness, happiness, and disgust.

    The project “Prevention of Addiction through Emotional Education” (PATH), financed as part of Erasmus+, KA2 Strategic Partnership-School education sector, Reference No: 2018-1-IT02-KA201-048318 Erasmus Project+, aims to create a minimum quality standard to support school education and it involves all the important figures in the experiential and practical program for children. The aim is to draw the attention of all educators to the importance of the children’s ability to understand and know emotions, the training of prosocial behaviors, and the use of reflection and emotional self-regulation (as opposed to the impulsiveness of the automatic system) to promote the daily well-being of individuals and, consequently, communities. This paper features a summary of the experiences collected by the partners (especially the Spanish partner) during the two years of project implementation. The results of the experimentation are meant to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of what has been done and an assessment of the effectiveness of the PATH model in school contexts. This paper also aims to increase the attention of teachers who wish to integrate the activities designed by the PATH model into their teaching. Indeed, the PATH training model is aimed at increasing the teachers’ professional skills by providing a structured intervention methodology based on emotional education, self-control, and prosociality to promote, among students, the acquisition and consolidation of fundamental emotional and social skills to prevent addictions in early stages. It is a recondition for a healthy development and a balanced individual and a protective factor for the implementation of risky behaviour.

    Niniejszy artykuł traktuje o zmianie hierarchii wartości młodych ludzi związanej z ich dojrzewaniem. Skok w dorosłość to osiąganie dojrzałości płciowej, fizycznej, psychicznej, prawnej i głównie społecznej. Przewartościowanie hierarchii wartości wyznawanej przez młodych ludzi związane z ich dojrzewaniem, a więc skokiem w dorosłość, zbadano na przykładzie wybranych grup społecznych tj. licealistów i studentów. Analizę porównawczą przeprowadzono na podstawie badań dotyczących stosunku do wartości przeprowadzonych wśród płockiej młodzieży licealnej (647 badanych licealistów w 2006 roku) oraz w grupie studentów PWSZ w Płocku (137 studentów w roku 2016). Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań wykazano, że wartości allocentryczne i prospołeczne są niezmiennie priorytetowe niezależnie od wieku rozwojowego badanych. Osiąganie dojrzałości przewartościowuje hierarchię pozostałych badanych wartości. Wraz z osiąganiem dojrzałości społecznej wartości związane z pracą i edukacją dominują u studentów nad przyjemnościowymi – ważnymi dla licealistów. Interesujące są szczegółowe analizy stosunku do poszczególnych wartości zmieniające się wraz z wiekiem ankietowanych. Nastąpił wyraźny wzrost aprobaty dla wartości obywatelskich, edukacyjnych, rodzinnych, związanych z pracą, z władzą wśród studentów w porównaniu do licealistów, spadek ocen nastąpił dla wartości przyjemnościowych i materialnych. Najmniejsza różnica, w opiniach licealistów i studentów, wystąpiła w wartościach allocentrycznych, prospołecznych i kulturalnych. Czynnikami determinującymi rozkład odpowiedzi były: wiek badanych, a więc etap osiągniętej dojrzałości oraz w przypadku licealistów, dodatkowo, profil ich klasy.
    This article deals with changing the hierarchy of the values of young people related to their adolescence. Jump into adulthood is achieving sexual, physical, mental, legal and primarily social maturity. Reassessment of the hierarchy of values of young people related to their maturation, in the jump into adulthood, was examined on the example of selected social groups of high school and college students. The comparative analysis was carried out on the basis of research of young people’s attitudes to values conducted among 647 high school students in 2006 and PWSZ students in Płock (137 students in 2016). The findings of the research conducted have shown that allocentric and pro-social values are invariably prioritized among the value hierarchies irrespective of the age of the respondents. Achieving maturity revaluates the hierarchy of the remaining values researched. With the attainment of social maturity, work and education values dominate over those of pleasure important for high school students. It is interesting to conduct detailed analyses of relations to individual values changing with the age of the respondents. There has been a marked increase in the approval of civic, educational, family, work-related, student-related power over the high school students while a drop in ratings has occurred for the pleasurable and material values. The smallest difference, in the opinions of high school and college students, was in terms of allocentric, pro-social and cultural values. Factors determining the distribution of responses were: the age of the respondents, the stage of maturity while in the case of high school students it was additionally the profile of their class.

    The text focuses on the efficiencyof school as one of the key agents of political socialization of early childhood students. Using the conceptual framework of J. Astuto and M.D. Ruck, a question is posed of how to effectively develop prosocial skills of children and therefore how to shape their later willingness to engage in civic actions in youth. According to various scholars, prosocial skills, such as respect for others’ feelings, helping, sharing and cooperating with others, have to be nurtured through classroom-based play. Unfortunately, in the age of neoliberal dominance of standardized tests, civic education is deemed less important, with an excessive focus on civic knowledge and the insufficien (not testable) focus on civic skills. In reference to research results (e.g. C. Flanagan and L.S. Gallay), the author of the article points out that democratic competence does not simply emerge as a result of top-down transmission of knowledge. The process of normative (moral) development in childhood knowledge of political facts is significantlyless important than the child’s social experience of civic participation and cooperation. Contrary to the neoliberal tendencies in educational reforms, democracy-learning – as pointed out by numerous studies – should be based on the development of a ‘democratic self’ (values, patterns of behavior, habits), prior to the development of political knowledge. Knowledge should be treated as a second important element of school political socialization of children. The primary focus should be the school’s commitment to the development of children’s democratic attitudes.

    W niniejszym tekście przeanalizowano związek zachodzący między oceną lekcji etyki przez uczniów a typem rozumowania moralnego, który oni prezentują. W celu zbadania tej zależności posłużono się trzema kwestionariuszami: kwestionariuszem prospołecznego rozumowania moralnego, kwestionariuszm zachowań prospołecznych w szkole i opracowanym przez autora niniejszej publikacji kwestionariuszem oceny lekcji etyki. Próba badawcza obejmowała uczniów klas szóstych z dwudziestu sześciu szkół podstawowych z zachodniej części Słowacji w liczbie 579 uczestników (49,7 % dziewcząt, średnia wieku wyniosła 11,27, SD =0.71). Badanie dostarczyło dowodów na prawdziwość tezy, że pozytywne nastawienie do lekcji etyki wiąże się z wyższym poziomem rozumowania moralnego i powszechniejszym przejawianiem zachowań prospołecznych.
    The relationship between students´ evaluation of the school subject Ethics Education and students´ type of prosocial moral reasoning and behaviours is described in the study. Prosocial moral reasoning, prosocial behaviour in the school questionnaire, and our own Ethics Education evaluation measure was used in the study. Research sample included students of 6th grades of 26 primary schools from the western part of Slovakia: 579 participants (49,7% female, Mage = 11,27; SD = .71). There is evidence which supports the idea that the positive attitude to Ethics Education is linked to developmentally higher types of reasoning and higher prevalence of prosocial behaviours.

    W artykule zaprezentowano rozważania teoretyczne dotyczące edukacji moralnej, która prowadzona jest na Słowacji w formie obowiązkowego przedmiotu szkolnego. Lekcje etyki wdrożono na drugim etapie kształcenia ogólnego (szkoła ponadpodstawowa) w roku szkolnym 1993/1994, natomiast od roku szkolnego 2004/2005 są one prowadzone również na pierwszym stopniu (szkoła podstawowa). Osnową edukacji moralnej w słowackim systemie oświaty jest koncepcja prospołeczności hiszpańskiego psychologa Roberta Roche’a Olivara. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest zbadanie związku zachodzącego między filozoficzną ideą edukacji moralnej a kształcenia w kierunku prospołeczności.
    The paper focuses on one project of moral education that is taking place in Slovakia in a form of a school subject. Ethics Education has been implemented in Slovakia since 1993/1994 as a school subject in the 2nd grade of primary schools and since 2004/2005 in the 1st grade of primary schools. The subject Ethics Education is based on education toward prosociality in the intentions of a Spanish prosocial psychologist Robert Roche Olivar. The aim of the paper is to examine a philosophical connection between moral education and education towards prosociality.

    For proper organization of sport and physical education in general, it is necessary to obtain empirical evidence on how sport influences youths’ social and moral development. To that effect, the research aim was to provide empirical data on the existence or non-existence of a connection between doing sport and prosocial behavior of the young. An appropriate questionnaire of pro-social behavior estimation was implemented on the sample of 61 students aged 12–14. The research findings show that there is a significant difference in the level of display of certain forms of prosocial behavior among the young athletes and their peers that are not engaged in some organized sport activities. Further, it was established that the type of sport influences the level of pro-social behavior manifestation. It was not found whether the length of doing sport is correlated with the pro-social behavior of adolescents. The results obtained point that organized sport activities represent the context having positive effects on the development of pro-social behavior of the young.

    Nauczanie Kościoła na temat środków społecznego przekazu wielokrotnie dotyka problematyki wychowania dzieci i młodzieży. Mass media wzięły bowiem na siebie niektóre zadania rodziny czy szkoły, proponując i promując różne wartości. W ten sposób przekaz medialny dotyka samego serca życia rodzinnego. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie skutecznych sposobów przezwyciężenia zagrożeń wynikających z traktowania dziecka jako łatwego konsumenta mediów. W dokumentach Kościoła znajdziemy szereg wskazówek dawanych twórcom środków przekazu, rodzicom, nauczycielom i władzom publicznym, które mogą pomóc w wychowaniu dziecka do mądrego i krytycznego korzystania z mediów. Biorą one pod uwagę bezbronność dziecka wobec świata i wobec osób dorosłych, jak również ich otwartość na każdy medialny przekaz. Tylko wykształcenie w dziecku krytycznych zdolności może zapoczątkować proces budzenia w nim zachowań prospołecznych.
    Children – open to messages and sensations and often thoughtless – are the most immediate recipients of mass media. In the world of new technologies it is often media that “bring up” children. In this way media content penetrates the very heart of the family. Market reports confirm that the youngest children are excessive media consumers. Documents of the Church show effective ways to overcome the threats arising from treating children as media consumers. Within these documents we can find a number of suggestions given to media professionals, parents, teachers and authorities, which may help to teach children to be wise and critical users of media. Those pieces of advice take into account children’s vulnerability and their openness to any media message. It is obvious that parents, as the primary and most important educators of their children, are also the first to teach them about media. They should develop critical thinking of their children and provide a good example by their own thoughtful and selective use of media. Moreover, parents should teach children to use their free time in a rational way and open them to a culture which rejects everything that is contrary to human dignity. Only in this way the pro‑social behaviour of children like friendly interaction, altruism, reduction of aggression and stereotypes can be encouraged.
