This paper deals in a preliminary way with the problem of selecting the smallest possible number of dominant paths in a minimized project-network with given bounds on the permissible values of the durations of activities. For this purpose, a classification technique is proposed. This technique is based on a heuristic possibilistic clustering of interval-valued data. The basic concepts of heuristic possibilistic clustering are defined and methods for preprocessing interval-valued data are described. An illustrative example is considered in detail and some conclusions are formulated.

Geodetic monitoring carried out in a number of cases in order to determine the dynamics of a particular phenomenon requires, apart from suitable measurement instruments, also suitable methods of processing the results of experimental data. While formulating a particular technical problem in the form of an objective function it is possible to obtain its solution by applying an optimising neural network. One of the possible uses of this kind of network is its application in adaptation modeling. The article presents two aspects of modeling: interfering noise elimination and identifying an object in the form of measurement results of dynamic GPS signals (Szpunar et al., 2003) carried out in real time. A computer simulation of the problem has been implemented by the author himself.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zarówno treści teoretycznych, jak i propozycji rozwiązań dostrzeżonych problemów praktycznych w zakresie organizacji projektowej. Źródła problemów postrzegane są przede wszystkim w konieczności integracji trwałej struktury organizacji realizującej projekt i czasowej struktury projektu oraz potrzebie uwzględnienia jednoczesnej realizacji wielu projektów. Zamieszczone są rekomendacje zastosowania modelowych struktur w realizacji projektów opartych na relacjach kapitałowych, kontraktowych i innych, w zależności od zalet i wad konkretnej organizacji projektu.
The aim of the article is to present both the theoretical content and the prepositions of solutions to the identified practical problems in the project organization. Sources of problems are noticed mainly in the necessity of integration of a permanent structure of the organization implementing the project and the temporal structure of the project and the need of taking into consideration the simultaneous execution of many projects. Recommendations for the use of model structures in the implementation of projects based on capital, contract and other relationships, depending on the pros and cons of a specific project organization are provided.

Applications and Projects of the Centre of Excellence in TeleGeomatics, University of Trieste, are herein reported, in particular as far as regards the Interreg SISA (Survey and Information System of Adriatic Roads) Project. The new instruments and devices of MMS used for the surveys are described together with the obtained results and accuracies. Moreover the results of laser scanner surveys from the Mobile Mapping Systems are presented and compared to another more accurate system. Future developments and application are presented linking together different techniques and methodologies for real time surveys, in particular with the use of WADGPS techniques also through InterNet (SISNeT ESA Project), with a software developed at the Laboratory oC Topogra.phy and GIS, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The aim of the article is to present evolution in change management models and the need of redesigning the current change management concepts with the use of organisational network analysis. Firstly, the article summarizes the evolution of change management approaches presenting the theoretical background of the need to revise change management models. Then the author underlines benefits of organisational network analysis enabling deep research on current change management trends. In addition, the article uncovers very introductory empirical research aimed at estimating the need for revitalising change management models. A method has been proposed to select one of several project implementation variants in the context of sustainable project management. The method should be applied in the phase of the project definition. The projects are viewed across the entire lifecycle of the project and its product. In all the phases, the sustainability aspects should be addressed in a balanced way. The sustainability context implies that different stakeholders will have conflicting opinions on the weights of different variables. The proposed approach is based on network Data Envelopment Analysis that does not require the weights of individual variables as input. Consequently, the proposed method is the first approach allowing users to select a project implementation variant in the context of sustainability and the entire project and product lifecycle, without imposing the weights of individual variables. The proposal is designed for organisations using project sustainable management.

Głównym celem artykułu jest prezentacja zastosowań koncepcji sieci międzyorganizacyjnych do badań nad zarządzaniem portfelami projektów. Celem pierwszej części pracy jest stworzenie ram koncepcyjnych sieciowego ujęcia portfela projektów: pokazanie charakterystyk sieci projektów oraz ich głównych kategorii. W drugiej części artykułu wskazano i przedyskutowano potencjalne nowe obszary badawcze. Praca jest oparta na źródłach wtórnych w postaci wyników poprzednich badań autorki, ma charakter eksploratywny, skierowany na zakreślenie nowej perspektywy badawczej w obszarze zarządzania projektami.
The main aim of the paper is to present the implementation of the concept of inter-organizational networks into the research on project portfolio management. In the first part of the paper the framework of network-based project portfolio concept was presented: the main characteristics of project network as well as the key categories of networks were delineated. In the next part of the work the major potential research area were distinguished and discussed. The article is based on the previous research, and it is oriented towards exploration of a new research perspective in project management.

The availability of digital infrastructures and the fast-paced development of accompanying revolutionary technologies have triggered an unprecedented reliance on Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques both in theory and practice. Within the AI domain, Machine Learning (ML) techniques stand out as essential facilitator largely enabling machines to possess human-like cognitive and decision making capabilities. This paper provides a focused review of the literature addressing applications of emerging ML toolsto solve various Project Scheduling Problems (PSPs). In particular, it employs bibliometric and network analysis tools along with a systematic literature review to analyze a pool of 104 papers published between 1985 and August 2021. The conducted analysis unveiled the top contributing authors, the most influential papers as well as the existing research tendencies and thematic research topics within this field of study. A noticeable growth in the number of relevant studies is seen recently with a steady increase as of the year 2018. Most of the studies adopted Artificial Neural Networks, Bayesian Network and Reinforcement Learning techniques to tackle PSPs under a stochastic environment, where these techniques are frequently hybridized with classical metaheuristics. The majority of works (57%) addressed basic Resource Constrained PSPs and only 15% are devoted to the project portfolio management problem. Furthermore, this study clearly indicates that the application of AI techniques to efficiently handle PSPs is still in its infancy stage bringing out the need for further research in this area. This work also identifies current research gaps and highlights a multitude of promising avenues for future research.

The construction industry is characterized by limited resources and a high level of competition. Limited resources and a competitive environment determine knowledge and information as a particularly important resource for the development of the construction industry. A communication network is one of the elements of a knowledge management system in projects and serves to organize and maintain information links between project participants. We have analysed the communication network between project participants for residential building construction using social network analysis (SNA). The purpose of this work is the calculation and analysis centrality measures for participants in the construction project delivery. Centrality measures can answer the following questions whether the node is influential or central to the network and whether the node is critical for the flow of information in the network.

The traditional (e.g. Gantt chart) and modern (network modeling) scheduling techniques reach their limits quite soon in case of large projects. In case of thousands of activities, the current methods do not provide an effective evaluation. This paper would like to show tools that can solve the above-mentioned problem. We have several options for handling these matters effectively. For example: fine scheduling based on resource and cost use, innovative solutions for printing of complex schedules. Roboty górnicze w kopalni węgla kamiennego obejmują dużą liczbę zróżnicowanych prac. Na szczególną uwagę zasługują prace związane z przygotowaniem do eksploatacji nowej ściany – wykonanie wyrobisk oraz prace zbrojeniowe. W artykule przedstawiono zasady stosowania metody drogi krytycznej w procesie planowania robót górniczych w kopalni oraz zaprezentowano, na wybranych przykładach, efekty stosowania tej metody do planowania takich prac.
Mining works in the coal mine include a large number of different activities. Particularly noteworthy are the works related to the preparation of a new longwall – excavation making and reinforcement works. This article presents the rules for applying the Critical Path Method in the process of planning mining operations in the mine. It also shows, on selected examples, the effects of applying this method to plan such works.

The purpose of the article was to determine the success factors of the project and the company in the temporary network implementing the project. The temporary network is established for a specified period of time, for the implementation of the project with a particular technical and organizational complexity. The performance of the that project exceeds the executive capacity and competence of one company. In this paper based on the research literature, focused interviews and participating observations, factors that are the key to achieving the project’s goal were sought. The article attempted to extend this type of approach in relation to the enterprise involved in the implementation of the project within the network. Authors of this article, in order to measure success factors, identified the basic criteria and measures for assessing the success of a complex project and measures of the success of a company that is involved in the project on the network, as well as the entire temporary network.
Celem artykułu było określenie czynników sukcesu projektu oraz sukcesu przedsiębiorstwa w sieci tymczasowej realizującej projekt. Sieć tymczasowa powołana jest na określony czas do realizacji projektu o szczególnej złożoności techniczno-organizacyjnej, którego wykonanie przewyższa zdolności wykonawcze i kompetencje jednego przedsiębiorstwa. W niniejszym artykule na podstawie badań literatury, wywiadów ukierunkowanych z realizatorami wybranych złożonych projektów oraz obserwacji uczestniczących poszukiwano czynników, które mają kluczowe znaczenie dla osiągnięcia celu projektu. W artykule starano się rozszerzyć tego typu podejście w odniesieniu do przedsiębiorstwa zaangażowanego w realizację projektu w ramach sieci. Autorzy artykułu, aby móc mierzyć czynniki sukcesu, zidentyfikowali podstawowe kryteria i mierniki oceny sukcesu złożonego projektu oraz mierniki sukcesu przedsiębiorstwa współrealizującego projekt w sieci, a także całej sieci tymczasowej.
