Opis:: We introduce a uniform non-monotonic framework for knowledge representation based on epistemic logic which is sufficiently general to encompass several nonmonotonic formalisms, including circumscription, autoepistemic logic, various semantics proposed for logic programs and deductive databases (stable semantics, well-founded semantics and stationary semantics) as well as Gelfond’s epistemic specifications. The existence of such a uniform framework allows us not only to provide simpler and perhaps more natural definitions of various formalisms but it also enables us to better understand mutual relationships existing between them.

Within the creative process of design, communication with the receiver and the marketing role of illustration are important. Traditional workshops cultivate an awareness of form and are conducive to experiments in creation and design. The influence of technological development on education, coupled with changes in the design process and forms of presentation, may lead to a unification of artistic communication and the disappearance of individuality and the role of creative personalities. The conscious construction of didactic program may guard against blind faith in the omnipotence of the computer.

Opis:: In this paper, the author reports on the follow-up to his earlier work on assessing the uses of sentence fragments in the nightly news programs of the major US television networks. In that earlier work ('Stylistyka' XI (2002), pp. 315-323), he had called attention to the very high incidence of sentence fragments, and of a particular kind of fragment, in the NBC newscasts. That particular kind of fragment is very similar grammatically to the absolute phrase (AKA absolute clause), and such fragments made up nearly half of the fragments in the transcripts he studied. In this follow-up report, he has studied the newscasts of the other two major news networks in the US -ABC and CBS-during the same time period, November 29-December 1, 2000. It turns out that the preference for the absolute phrase fragment style of NBC almost certainly constitutes a house style; the transcripts of the ABC and CBS broadcasts are not nearly as rich in fragments as the NBC transcripts are. In this report the author has also attempted to show the extent to which certain newsmen and women have used or not used such constructions in these broadcasts.

Opis:: This work is devoted to the plotting of coupler curves in the environment of graphical programs. As there is a large variety of shapes, for the purpose of this study, the authors selected those curves that feature a cusp form. In the research, two software programs were used, i.e., AutoCAD and Rhinoceros with the Grasshopper plug-in. Two types of curves were defined: a fixed and a moving centrode, in which the points of the moving centrode define the coupler curves whose cusps are located on the fixed centrode. In conclusion, two design tools were compared and the curves in question were discussed in detail.

Opis:: Mass media discourse about politics consists of three overlapping fields: public discourse, discourse of politics and political discourse. Political discourse is defined as a discourse of symbolic elites present in the media, including journalists. In news programs there is a combination of political discourse and a discourse of politics: politicians appear in their political roles, while comments made by experts and reporters can be viewed as a part of the political discourse. The main topic of the article is the tabloidization of the political discourse in Polish television news programs. According to Frank Esser’s concept of tabloidization it takes place on two levels: micro and macro, and this paper focuses on the second one. The main goal of the paper is to present how the phenomenon of tabloidization of the media discourse on politics has appeared in Poland since the beginning of the 21st century. Some empirical data from different periods of time are presented to provide content analysis of news programs on commercial and public TV. Differences between the way politics is discussed in public and commercial TV are visible, but the tendency described as tabloidization is observed in both.

Opis:: The paper analyzes the system of legal education in Lithuania. It provides a short historical overview and recent developments in this area. On the one hand, higher education institutions try to implement main goals of the Bologna Process and to provide two-cycle studies in the field of law. On the other hand, there are still very strong ties to the traditional one-stage model of legal studies. Thus, universities try to combine both these models and offer both two-stage and one-stage studies. In such a situation students are given an opportunity to choose the model they prefer. The paper gives an insight into the programs of studies offered by the universities in Lithuania. The last thing discussed in the article is the issue of securing quality of legal studies.

Opis:: In order to accomplish the mission of a public radio it is necessary to manage the broadcasting time adequately, taking into account the mission-related objectives, such as production of programs focusing on matters important for local communities. Public radio should be perceived by the audience as a reliable and trustworthy source of information. At the same time it should compete for young listeners and improve attractiveness of the program without excessive commercialization. Therefore, being a public station, Radio Rzeszów SA broadcasts a wide variety of programs focusing on information, opinions, culture, entertainment, education and sport, in compliance with its mission. Moreover, the schedule of programs is designed taking into account the criteria for the preferred programs, as defined by the National Broadcasting Council. The numerous mission-related tasks of a public broadcasting entity include programs for national and ethnic minorities. Polskie Radio Rzeszów produces and broadcasts the most refined genres of radio journalism, such as reportage and radio drama.In Rzeszów Radio these are programs for Ukrainian and Łemko minorities. The related achievements are presented in the article, which also discusses the findings of Radio Rzeszów monitoring conducted by the National Broadcasting Council as well as a survey commissioned by us.

Opis:: This article treats about similarities and discrepancies in legal definitions of fencing the computer programs (software) provided by Polish law – especially The Criminal Code and Act of 4 February, 1994 on Copyright and Neighbouring Rights. The penalization of software fencing crime in two (even three) different Polish acts usually causes the confusion for investigators, prosecutors and even judges. The article clearly explains the history (including EU acts) and interplays as well as notifies all differences between the acts. This would help to define the particular crime accurately and prosecute in appropriate way, as well as to avoid the potential confusion in appropriate qualification the particular infringements or crimes. The work is enriched with significant judges, illustrating the given problems and definitions.
