According to the new legal regulations the professional development is understood as the acquisition or development of knowledge and skills of the employee, with the employer’s initiative or with his consent. The knowledge and skills that an employee acquires from the professional development may be related to the type of the performed work or held position as well as the widely understood general knowledge. All the rights and obligations arising from the professional development should be specified in the training contract by the parties of the employment contract.

 This study examines the potential effect of Shaping the Way We Teach English, a teacher professional development program, on Jordanian English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers’ instructional practices. The participants of the study are 20 Jordanian EFL teachers selected from 14 public schools in North Ghour Directorate of Education in the first semester of the academic year 2018/2019. Observations of the participants, along the seven domains of classroom management, language, teaching strategies, learning strategies, assessment strategies, authentic materials, and reflection, were conducted before and after the treatment to determine whether or not the treatment has an effect on the participants’ instructional practices. Descriptive statistics were used to compare the participants’ performance before and after the treatment. The findings revealed that the participants gained on all seven domains of the observation checklist, with statistically significant differences found (at α=0.05) in their instructional practices before and after the treatment, in favor of the latter.  The study concludes with pedagogical implications and recommendations for further research.

The article presents the definitions and functions of supervision significant in the area of social work as well as its individual and institutional benefits. It also presents the results of a pilot study concerning the importance of the instrument of supervision in professional development of social workers. The study showed that the respondents most often participated in sessions providing emotional support, and less often in the sessions offering specialist knowledge. The way of carrying out the supervision was convergent with the current needs of the respondents; however, participating in supervision did not have much influence on making professional decisions or their quality.

Teacher education has been recognized increasingly as a profession that fundamentally differs from teaching pupils in schools. This has resulted in teacher educator development programs which address the uniqueness of the profession. In this article we depart from this recognition of teacher education as a profession outlining the specifics of teacher education, and we describe a professional development program for teacher educators run in the Netherlands. We describe its building blocks and three design principles – narrative inquiry, dialogue and self-study – and illustrate their value by examples of evaluations taken from the program.

The purpose of the article is to present the results of testing the emotional intelligence of the future physicians who tend to hide professional mistakes. The article is based on the study involving 129 students who are studying in the specialties “Medical business”, “Medical psychology”, “Pediatrics”, “Dentistry” at the medical-psychological, dental and medical faculties of the O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University. During the study, the following methods were used: 1) The Error-Oriented Motivation Scale (EOMS) in order to measure a tendency to hide professional mistakes; 2) The Emotional Intelligence Scale in order to determine the level of emotional intelligence. Statistical processing of the study results was performed using 1) descriptive statistics (percentages, arithmetic means, standard deviations); 2) Student’s T-test to compare the emotional intelligence level in the groups of future physicians with different levels of propensity to hide professional mistakes. The study has found that a significant number of future physicians (53.5%) showed a tendency to hide their professional mistakes. The respondents in this group are characterized with low and medium levels of emotional intelligence compared to future physicians who strive to learn from their mistakes. This study has demonstrated that the vast majority of future physicians believe that professional errors should be hidden, which, in turn, does not contribute to their professional development; the future physicians who tend to hide professional mistakes have low levels of emotional awareness, ability to manage one’s emotions, self-motivation, empathy, ability to manage other people’s emotions. The development of emotional intelligence would apparently contribute to a more conscious attitude of future physicians to professional activities as well as more common-sense attitude to mistakes, and this poses new challenges for medical education to form emotional intelligence of future medical professionals.

The article presents an updated model of playing a computer game as the user’s interaction with its system, taking into consideration audiovisuality as the fundamental channel for computer-human communication. Interactivity is an inherent property of computer games, which clearly distinguishes them from other kinds of games: it is therefore a defining feature of computer games. On the other hand, audiovisuality is a necessary characteristic, following from the communication between the computer and its user, taking place mainly in the channel of synchronized image and sound, which is dominant in human perception. The point of departure for the model development is an analysis of human interaction with the machine which runs the game system; in the model, there is a dynamic change from interactivity of a computer game to a human being’s interaction with the computer while playing, which makes it possible to fully account for the complexity of the situation of playing a computer game. The presented model combines the ludic aspect of a computer game (interactive entertainment) with the capacity to convey messages (an audiovisual cultural text), and from a commmunicative perspective, it unambiguously assigns a human being the role of the subject using a computer game.

This brief report presents preliminary findings of a qualitative investigation into five Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) academics’ professional attributes and identities in China. The findings revealed that the participants possessed diverse types of capital essential to CLIL, including human, social, psychological, cultural, identity, and agentic capital, though with mixed controls. The temporality of personal experiences and the social networks surrounding the participants were deemed influential in shaping and negotiating their professional identities. The study concluded with implications for institutional administrators and leaders, who should consider teachers’ development needs, especially their learning, social and psychological needs, to create an academically supportive, emotionally engaging and socially collaborative organisational climate.

The aim of the study was to determine the level of ethical manifestations in trainers of teacher continuing education and to compare trainers’ self-evaluations with their evaluations by teachers. The same was measured also in trainers of other adult professional training and participants of that type of education. Research involved 262 participants, and ethical competencies were measured using the Questionnaire of Trainers’ Ethical-Humanistic Manifestations by Pavlov and Skúpa (2018). It was found out that the overall level of ethical competencies was high above-average and comparable in both groups of trainers. Trainers of teacher continuing education statistically significantly overestimated themselves in comparison with how teachers perceived them as participants of the continuing professional development. A similar phenomenon was observed also in trainers of other professional training, although less significant. From the point of view of trainees, trainers of teacher continuing development were evaluated in some measured aspects worse than trainers of other professional training.

Many traditional professional development programs that are initiated to equip ESL teachers with knowledge and skills have been futile for numerous reasons. This paper addresses a gap in the recent research of ESL teachers’ professional development. Literature has revealed many shortcomings of the traditional and online professional development programs that are widely conducted; thus, an implementation framework of flipped professional development program is proposed in this paper, based on Malaysian educational practices. Integrated theories of Zone Proximal Teacher Development (ZPTD) and revised Bloom’s Taxonomy are adapted in designing the Flipped Teacher Professional Development (FiT-PD). The implementation of the FiT-PD program is conducted in the four Train-to-Learn (TL) stages; remembering and understanding (TL-1) conducted in face-to face mode, applying and analysis (TL-2) conducted via online, evaluation (TL-3) conducted in face-to-face mode and finally creating (TL-4) conducted via online. Thus, the paper recommends an implementation framework of flipped teacher professional development. The recommendations assist educational policymakers to strategize better planning and organize flipped professional teacher professional development (Fit-PD) for ESL teachers.

The objective of this study is to contribute to the knowledge base of teacher professional development and formative assessment using Singapore as an example. The study was carried out through an exploratory case study in a Singapore school. Our study shows that while the teachers find formative assessment beneficial, they do not have sufficient knowledge of it and face the challenges of heavy workload, time pressure and lack of confidence. The results serve to inform policymakers and educators of the need to provide effective and sustained teacher professional development in formative assessment as well as continual teacher support and collaboration.

The audit, which covered the years 2009 2011, was aimed at evaluating the organisation and results of educating and professional development of teachers, as well as at examining whether public funds assigned for this purpose were spent properly. The audit was conducted at the Ministry of National Education (MEN), at eight regional teacher development centres, at 23 local self-government units and at 23 public schools. In this audit, NIK has found several serious irregularities in the system for professional development for teachers, such as, in particular: the funds assigned for this purpose are not managed properly, qualifications gained by teachers tend not to be used after trainings, understated funds have been planned for teachers training in local self-government units budgets and in the budget of the Minister of National Education, and the promotion system for teachers is not connected with schools achievements.

The author of the article aims to present in short the results of the empirical verification of R. Kwaśnica’s concept concerning teachers’ professional development. The first part of the article deals with theoretical matters: the understanding of professional development and burnout syndrome. These terms are presented as opposing. Ch. Maslach’s theory on burnout along with Kwaśnica’s views were the basis of the research. The research was done from 2000 – 2002 on the sample of 257 teachers from different schools in different parts of Poland. In the second part of the article chosen results are referred: a diagnosis of professional development phases: preconventional, conventional, postconventional and the states of teachers’ professional activity: expanding from not disturbed activity, through first symptoms of burnout to burnout syndrome. Some essential conclusions can be drawn from the research. First of all, professional development can protect teachers from experiencing burnout, mainly due to growing professional competences, job adaptation and increasing creativity in teachers’ attitude. Moreover, it turned out that, depending on the phase of professional development, different factors stimulate teachers’ growth- these factors must be strengthened to prevent from burnout.

The work of a religion teacher involves constant contact with the students, parents, principals, other teachers, local parish priests and other ecclesiastics; this exposure increasingly often proves to be stress-inducing. It can also engender a sense of physical and mental fatigue. Therefore, teachers of religion constitute a professional group at high risk of professional burnout. The analysis undertaken in this paper aims to demonstrate how selected groups of religion teachers approach various aspects of professional burnout. The respondents involved in the study included teachers of religion from the Archdiocese of Warmia and the Diocese of Opole. The investigations relied on the diagnostic survey methodology, using the pertinent survey technique. An authorial questionnaire served as the principal tool of research. The respondents correctly identify different aspects of professional burnout. The opinions of the surveyed religion teachers are consistent with the findings of psychologists and educational experts. Respondents not only aptly define professional burnout, but also report the diverse determining factors behind it. Among other things, the latter include long-term stress related to teaching and behavioural support duties, poor cooperation between parents and religion teachers as well as a lack of commitment to religious instruction on the part of the students. Respondents are able to enumerate readily noticeable physical and psychological symptoms, as well as suggest preventive measures.

Rozpoczynając pracę zawodową, pracownicy socjalni wiążą z nią różne oczekiwania i wartości. Dotyczą one przede wszystkim realizacji własnych zainteresowań oraz zaspokojenia potrzeb społecznych, moralnych, rozwojowych, twórczych, materialnych i stabilizacyjnych. W praktyce realizacja tych oczekiwań przebiega w sposób zróżnicowany, wywierając określony wpływ na proces doskonalenia zawodowego pracowników socjalnych, przejawy ich zachowania zawodowego i zmiany w osobowości. Stanowi o nabywaniu nowych dyspozycji zawodowych, umożliwiających bardziej efektywne funkcjonowanie w pracy. Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest określeniu zależności między rozwojem zawodowym pracowników socjalnych (zmienna zależna) a ich oczekiwaniami zawodowymi, jakie wiążą z wykonywaną pracą (zmienne niezależne). Dane uzyskane w wyniku przeprowadzonych badań empirycznych wskazują na występowanie istotnych zależności między tymi zmiennymi.
When starting their career, social workers attach different expectations and values to it. They concern mainly the realization of one’s own interests, meeting social, moral, developmental, creative, material and stabilizing needs. In practice, these expectations are fulfilled in a varied manner, exerting a specific influence on the process of professional development of social workers, manifestations of their professional behavior and changes in personality. It is about acquiring new professional dispositions that enable more effective functioning at work. This article is devoted to the determination of the relationship between the professional development of social workers (dependent variable) and their professional expectations connected with the performed work (independent variables). As a result of the conducted empirical studies, the obtained data indicate the existence of significant relationships between these variables.

Organizations certifying professions in the area of accounting and finance play an essential role in shaping and strengthening the professional status of its practitioners. Universities in Poland recognized the importance of international qualifications and established active cooperation with the Asociation of Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) to accredit accounting and finance programs. The presented study aims to answer whether ACCA accreditation affects the professional development of accounting and finance specialists in Poland. Its role was also to identify factors that contribute to increasing the professional development of accounting and finance specialists in connection with the accreditation of study programs. To achieve these goals a questionnaire survey was conducted among students from three selected accredited universities in Poland. The analysis of the results obtained was carried out by the use of descriptive statistics and multiple regression. According to students' opinions, the employers' interest in graduates of accredited courses positively influences their career development. In addition to the interest of employers' mentioned above, surveyed women also indicated a higher quality of education in accredited courses, while men stressed the greater prestige of studies as a factor contributing to the development of their professional career. The results of this study are a valuable contribution to the discussion on professional development as well as the impact of accreditation institutions on the training of accounting and finance specialists.

The survey was conducted on a sample of 101 firms from Poland. Data were collected through a questionnaire.Main findings: In the surveyed enterprises, predominates a typical approach to the issue of professional development of employees and there is no need for a radical departure from classic solutions in favor of using other (innovative) instruments of professional development.

The Professional developmenmt of a teacher in the XXI century should be a standard. Especially among young teachers who just begins to follow his professional way. Interest of a man determines his choice of professional carrier. Furthermore while doing his job interests may pointing the direction of completion or achieving new professional competences, which might be useful during a carrier. In this article the review of apropriate literature is made in order to define competences and interests. Also characteristic of classifications of professional competences of teachers was made. By means of descritption and analyse of own researches the author tries to revill the impact of interests on taken professional development by young teachers. She describes also different forms of professional development taken by teachers and their actual interests.

The article reveals the basic principles of social workers’ professional development in Canada and identifies opportunities to use its constructive ideas in the Ukrainian practice of social work. The author analyzes the concepts of "professional development" and "social workers’ professional development". It was found that the social workers’ professional development is an important component of quality social work practice. Definitely, social workers’ professional development in Canada is the responsibility of social work professional organizations, which are divided into 2 main types: professional (government regulators at the national level, colleges and associations at the provincial and territorial levels) and educational professional organizations. The content of the main legislative documents regulating the social workers’ professional development is characterized. It was found that the basis of professional development is a program of continuous competence, which aims to promote the quality of professional activities in the field of social work and social services, as well as to encourage social workers-practitioners to constantly improve their professional skills and protect the public right to quality services as defined in the Model Social Work Practice Act, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. The constructive ideas of the Canadian experience for reforming the Ukrainian system of social workers’ professional development are characterized. 
W artykule opisane zostały podstawowe zasady rozwoju zawodowego pracowników socjalnych w Kanadzie oraz wskazano możliwości wykorzystania jej konstruktywnych pomysłów w ukraińskiej praktyce pracy socjalnej. Autorka analizuje terminy „rozwój zawodowy” i „rozwój zawodowy pracownika socjalnego”. Stwierdzono, że rozwój zawodowy pracowników socjalnych jest ważnym elementem wysokiej jakości praktyki pracy socjalnej. Zdecydowanie za rozwój zawodowy pracowników socjalnych w Kanadzie odpowiadają organizacje zawodowe pracy socjalnej, które dzielą się na dwa główne typy: zawodowe (regulatory rządowe na poziomie krajowym, uczelnie i stowarzyszenia na poziomie prowincji i terytoriów) oraz zawodowe edukacyjne. Scharakteryzowano treść głównych dokumentów legislacyjnych regulujących rozwój zawodowy pracowników socjalnych. Stwierdzono, że podstawą rozwoju zawodowego jest program ciągłych kompetencji, którego celem jest promowanie jakości działań zawodowych w zakresie pracy socjalnej i usług socjalnych, a także zachęcanie pracowników socjalnych-praktyków do stałego podnoszenia swoich umiejętności zawodowych oraz ochrona prawa społeczeństwa do usług wysokiej jakości, zgodnie z definicją zamieszczoną w ustawie o modelowych praktykach pracy socjalnej, Kodeksie etyki i Standardach postępowania. Scharakteryzowano konstruktywne pomysły kanadyjskiego doświadczenia na reformę ukraińskiego systemu rozwoju zawodowego pracowników socjalnych.

Being a reflective practitioner is a task for a teacher and a tool for his real professional development. This article presents a teacher’s reflection before action, focused on the goal of education, a reflection in action, where the teacher is an observer, tutor and diagnostician, and a reflection after action, where I analyzed children’s activity in classes with educational toys. For the teacher’s work I have described the possibility of diagnosing students cognitive development based on their social role; how do they build strategies of logical thinking; what is wrong with preschool education; and how to engage students in classes. This text is a result of taking a part in the project Laboratorium Wczesnej Edukacji.

This study focuses on teachers’ professional development practices in the Republic of Serbia, presenting the results obtained from questionnaires of mixed research conducted to investigate teachers’ attitudes towards different forms of professional development programmes, how often teachers participate in them, and why. The results show a high degree of correlation between their positive attitudes and the frequency of participation when teachers are externally motivated, and no correlation if they self-direct their professional development. The research draws attention to the need to re-examine the existing teacher professional development policies considering the needs of teachers and their teaching practices.

Artykuł oparty jest na badaniach własnych autora przeprowadzonych w 2010 roku, poświę-conych poznaniu motywacji podjęcia studiów wyższych oraz aspiracji zawodowych przez studen-tów socjologii i zarządzania AGH. Badania przeprowadzono przy pomocy ankiety audytoryjnej. Wyniki badań wskazują na pewne podobieństwa i różnice. Podobieństwa dotyczą motywacji studiowania, pragnienia rozwoju osobistego, uzyskania kompetencji zawodowych pozwalających na uzyskanie satysfakcjonującej pracy. Różnice dotyczą aspiracji zawodowych. Większe znacze-nie przypisywane jest rozwojowi zawodowemu przez socjologów i poczuciu bezpieczeństwa przez studentów zarządzania oraz oceny roli uczelni w kształtowaniu kompetencji technicznych (niższe oceny studentów socjologii). W konsekwencji uwidocznił się niższy poziom satysfakcji z wyboru uczelni i kierunku studiów deklarowany przez studentów socjologii.
The article based on original author`s survey research on motivation for studying and profes-sional aspiration of sociology and management graduates of AGH University of Science and Technology conducted in 2010. The results show some similarities and differences. Similarities pertain the motivation for studying, need of personal development and attainment of professional competencies. Differences relate to professional aspiration. Opportunities for personal develop-ment are more important for sociology graduates, whereas job security is more important for man-agement graduates. They also appreciate the role of university in the development of technical competencies. As a result they are more satisfied with their choice of field of study.

The paper describes qualitative research which studied six teachers from their professional beginnings to the present position of an experienced - expert - teacher. The research method used is life story, through which the teacher’s career is reconstructed. The key research question is: What strategies of work on identity did a teacher use to become an expert teacher? The most important motor of change and particularly of a teacher’s development was his/her decision and commitment to the development of his/her identity (Pittard, 2003). Snow and Anderson (1987) labelled this process as work on one’s identity. I will discuss only verbal and visual strategies, which the teacher uses to influence the environment at school in general (verbal distancing, gossip, and strategy of uniqueness). The paper concludes with a discussion of how necessary the verbal and visual strategies directed towards the school space are for the teacher’s professional identity. Had they no power, teachers could not influence decision-making processes.

This paper discusses the issue of professional development by small and medium enterprise employees. The specific qualities of SME activities in this area are identified on the basis of literature and numerous studies—informality, reactivity, the short–term perspective, focus on solving current problems, learning by doing (“on–the–job” training is the predominant method), focus on the development of specific skills and organizational knowledge, and a lack of professionally organized training. The purpose: to make attempt to answer the questions connected with the analysis, understanding different interpretations of the conceptual apparatus on the problem of "functional competence" and radical change of professional consciousness of the teacher. Research methods. In the course of experimental work conducted at the Institute, the various methods of analysis, collection, systematization of material: observation, interview, discussion, questioning, testing were used. The paper discusses modern requirements to professional activity of the teacher and the ways of formation of its functional competence in the transition to a model of education focused on result. The degree of proficiency in the functional competence of teachers is directly related to the successful activities of the student, the development of key competencies. One of the key competencies is the state's demand for the quality of the high school graduate's personality in the form of educational outcomes. The main functional qualities of a person in solving a strategically important task for the country are initiative, the ability to think creatively and to identify non-standard solutions, the ability to determine the professional path, the willingness to learn throughout life. All available functional skills are formed in intercultural communication in the conditions of the school. Results: The appropriate methodological recommendations were developed, training manuals were issued; the experience of creatively working teachers was summed up, measures were taken to improve the content of the program of courses "Development of functional skill (reading, mathematical, natural-science) for students in the framework of an international PISA study".

Troska o permanentny rozwój osobowości i posiadanie umiejętności kierowania własnym rozwojem zawodowym w warunkach dynamicznie zmieniającej się rzeczywistości to jedno z podstawowych wyzwań kierowanych wobec każdej jednostki współczesnej cywilizacji. Potencjał intelektualny, którym jednostka dysponuje i umiejętność własnego nim gospodarowania w różnych sytuacjach życiowych i zawodowych to podstawowe wyznaczniki dobrostanu jednostki. Umiejętności te dotyczą wszystkich czterech obszarów (planowania, organizowania, realizowania i kontrolowania) procesu zarządzania. Pierwszym - otwierającym obszarem czynności w tym procesie jest oczywiście planowane podejmowanie decyzji. To ten etap czynności uczyniono przedmiotem rozważań w niniejszym artykule. Skoncentrowano uwagę na czterech umiejętnościach, o których jednostka przystępując do planowania ścieżki własnego rozwoju zawodowego powinna pamiętać. Są to: umiejętności zgłębiania wiedzy o sobie, umiejętności planowania zadań rozwojowych adekwatnych do swoich potrzeb i możliwości, umiejętności przewidywania skutków wywołanych zaplanowanymi działaniami prorozwojowymi i umiejętności dostrzegania możliwości poprawy jakości projektowanych planów własnego rozwoju zawodowego.
Concern for the permanent development of the personality and have the skills to manage their own professional development in the conditions of dynamically changing reality is one of the main challenges addressed to each unit of modern civilization. Intellectual potential, which the entity has the ability and the management of their own in various situations of life and work are the basic determinants of the welfare of the individual. These skills apply to all four areas (planning, organizing, implementing and controlling) the management process. First step - opening area of operations in this process is of course planning decisions. It is this phase of operations done under consideration in this article. Focused attention on the four skills, with which the individual joining the path planning your career should keep in mind. These are; explore the skills of self-knowledge, planning skills development tasks relevant to their needs and capabilities, the ability to predict the effects the planned development-oriented activities and the ability to see opportunities to improve the quality of the draft plans of their own professional development.

Ponieważ nasze oczekiwania wobec nauczycieli są o wiele wyższe niż przed laty, ich rola wyraźnie się zmieniła. Zmiany te są wynikiem otaczającej rzeczywistości, która wymusza konieczność ciągłego doskonalenia własnych kompetencji. Nieustanny rozwój zawodowy w tym zawodzie jest szczególnie ważny dla poprawy skuteczności kształcenia, ponieważ od wysokich kompetencji nauczycieli zależą osiągnięcia uczniów. Nie ma jednak rozwoju zawodowego bez rozwoju osobistego. Okazuje się, że jest on niezwykle ważnym obszarem rozwoju profesjonalnego. W artykule zamieszczono przegląd wybranych koncepcji odnoszących się do rozwoju osobowego. Omówiono czynniki determinujące rozwój zawodowy nauczyciela i podkreślono znaczenie dojrzałej osobowości dla pomyślnego przebiegu tego procesu. W wyniku przeprowadzonych analiz teoretycznych zaprezentowano kilka konkluzji. Najważniejszą z nich jest stwierdzenie, że o nauczycielskim profesjonalizmie świadczą nie tylko argumenty poznawcze, lecz także osobowościowe, obejmujące świat wartości i uczuć. To one właśnie warunkują świadome, refleksyjne i odpowiedzialne odgrywanie przez nauczycieli roli zawodowej. Aby osiągnąć ten pożądany stan, konieczne jest wspieranie nauczycieli na drodze ich profesjonalnego rozwoju. Punktem wyjścia jest rozpoznanie fazy rozwoju, w jakiej znajduje się nauczyciel oraz stosowanie odpowiednich metod stymulacji. Jest to kluczowy element warunkujący przechodzenie przez kolejne etapy, prowadzący do usprawnienia procesu stawania się nauczycielem.
Because of the fact, that our expectations about teachers are much higher than they were years ago, their role has clearly changed. These changes are the result of the surrounding reality, which forces the need to improve one’s own competence constantly. Teachers’ continuous professional development is especially relevant for improving educational effectiveness, because teachers’ competences have a huge influence on students’ achievement. However, there is no professional development without personal development. It turns out to be a very important area of professional development. The article presents an overview of selected concepts related to personal development. The factors determining teacher’s professional development are discussed and the importance of a mature personality for the success of this process is underlined. As a result of the theoretical analyzes, several conclusions were presented. The most important of them is the statement that the teachers’ professionalism consists of a cognitive and personal area, containing a world of values and feelings. They determine the teachers’ conscious, reflective and responsible professional role. In order to achieve this desired state, it is necessary to support teachers through their professional development. The main point is to recognize the development phase and use appropriate stimulation methods. This is an important element, which is improve the process of teachers’ professional development.

Opis:
The article discusses the issue of the development of professional interests of young people with mental retardation. A review of selected theories help to understand better the dynamics and the regularity of this development, which allows an individual approach to each intellectually disabled person who takes professional life. Analysis of the determinants of professional development can be helpful not only in vocational guidance, but should also be interested to employers who employ people with mental disabilities. It turns out that the most appropriate to this group of people is emphasized by the parameter satisfaction instrumental theory and the theory of adaptation to work. The needs theories explain the motivational aspect of the profession, and pay attention to the inalienable right of deciding about himself as a person with a disability.

The purpose of the study is to determine the characteristic features of personal functioning at different stages of professional development. The survey involved 139 professionals from various fields (74 women and 65 men) aged 24 to 67 years. The sample is divided into 5 groups according to the stage of professional development. A comparative analysis of groups by parameters of professional self-realisation, emotional burnout and psychological well-being is carried out. The results obtained demonstrate the nonlinear, complex dynamics of self-realisation of the individual throughout life and clarify the internal mechanisms of professional development at each stage. The stages of primary and secondary professionalisation are accompanied by the greatest need for self-improvement and at the same time, exaggerated and unrealistic ideas about one's own professional competence. An increased symptomatology of emotional burnout has been identified, which accompanies the peak of professional excellence and determines the next stage of professional activity decline after 30 years of work experience. The coincidence of the normative age and professional crises entails a profound crisis of the pre-retirement age, which is characterised primarily by a loss of goal-setting. People who continue to work in the post-retirement age have the highest rates of self-fulfillment, which leads to overall satisfaction with life and self. The described patterns open new perspectives for the development of ways of psychological counselling and organisational support of specialists.

After brief remarks related to the current discourse present in the professional literature on the perspective of the development of competences and professional improvement, this text focuses on ideas which have important implications for their perspective of development and the assessment of the process of professional improvement of teachers, namely (a) building teachers’ professionalism, especially for those who are trapped in an increasingly formalized system, based on documents, content of teachers training courses and then in a rigid career path and (b) defining and assessing the standards of the professional development process. The text ends with the thesis that the most valuable resources available in each school are the teachers, that there is an urgent need to remodel the current system and to concentrate on strengthening the potential present in the idea of the professionalization of teachers (and their assessment) in terms of teaching standards (related to what they should know and be able to do).

Adopting a proactive attitude focused on professional development is essential in the contemporary, volatile environment. Objective and subjective indicators are used when evaluating the development of a professional career. However, the adequateness of the criteria chosen for evaluation is ambiguous due to the limitations of both objective and subjective measures. In this article, on the basis of a review of literature, objective and subjective measures of professional progression were characterized, and the possible distortions of objective evaluation resulting from applying them were identified. The evolution of the career paradigm results in the need to verify professional development in the modern approach, which strongly highlights the subjective prospects of a professional career that reflect an individually planned concept of oneself. Nevertheless, a possible criticism regarding subjective measures is lack of objectivity in career evaluation. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between the objective and subjective measures of professional careers. The study was based on an online questionnaire which covered 190 employees employed in large and medium-sized companies in Poland. The study confirmed the positive relationship between the measures, and shows the direction of the relationship, showing that the subjective and objective criteria commensurately indicate career development. Career satisfaction can be successfully used in the assessment of professional development, thus giving reliable results for its advancement.

The aim of this article is to recognise the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) model adopted in 2009 in Singapore as a national mode. The explicit use of the term of PLC together with related terms makes it possible to understand an educational policy which is focused on the implementation of concepts developed in a different, foreign context. The orientation adopted in Singapore identifies PLC not only as reinforcing incentives for teachers and their professionalism, but more broadly, as reinforcing the already high-quality education. RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the paper is to show that the concept of diversity has much more implications for schools and education than commonly assumed. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODOLOGY: Based on an evaluation research study (formative and summative) involving 20 schools at the elementary and secondary level, which have undergone a federal process of professional development findings are presented, which indicate that we need to be more strategic in terms of our research practices and dissemination when it comes to diversity. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION The paper introduces the concept of a critical theory of professional development in education, which includes the conceptual history approach and post structural points of view. The findings of an evaluation research study are then analysed. The exploration of the connections between diversity discourses and the challenges of the daily organisational and pedagogical routines completes the analysis. RESEARCH RESULTS: For the results show that diversity management is becoming more and more of an issue. Further crucial points seem to be media relations and the competition between schools. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Strengthening the competence of everybody involved and enabling transfer of knowledge is the key. Instead research tends to confront players with what they don’t know and can’t handle, often classifying their working approaches in an offensive way rather then supporting them by acknowledging their expertise in first place. Active professionalism is a modern notion in the discussion on teacher professionalism, which imposes on teachers the need to research the educational context in which they work and engage in their own professional development. Teachers are expected to inquire into their practice and reflect on their own experience, to actively direct their professional learning and deliberately go beyond their current abilities. The paper presents research conducted among 14 language teacher educators with the use of semi-structured interviews together with a study of their mind-maps and scientific and didactic publications. The target group was selected by snowball sampling. The author describes the research findings in which she finds two strategies of active learning performed by the teacher educators (remedial strategy and exploratory strategy). The first aims at improving the learning outcomes, and the latter focuses on self-improvement.

Theoretical framework within which this paper is set is the conception of teachers’ epistemological beliefs. The author’s attention is focused on the classification of teachers’ beliefs in the realistic, contextual and relativistic approach. The question that permeates this study is whether the teacher’s beliefs are consistent with their work in practice. A questionnaire was made for the purpose of the research and the sample encompasses 420 teachers in Serbia. Results show that the subjects mostly estimate that they belong to a constructivist profile. However, their answers indicate that their acting is different from their self-assessment. Research findings imply a need for an awakening of teachers with regards to personal epistemologies.

Many professional development opportunities for faculty are offered in a traditional, face-to-face learning environment. However, similarly as virtual/online learning environments may be an answer to the various student’s needs, it may also apply to fulfilling teaching and learning needs of the faculty. This paper provides insights regarding three different types of professional development for faculty in a virtual/online environment implemented at a two-year, small college in the Midwest of the United States. Because we look for how to engage and deepen student learning in online, blended, and/or distance education and training environments, our professional development should mimic and model best practices of developing and learning in these unique environments (Anderson, Krathwohl, & Bloom, 2001). Although, traditional face-to-face professional development for faculty may still be in use, this paper provides guidelines and suggestions considering developing virtual/online professional development for faculty, in order to offer them additional learning opportunities.

Celem prezentowanego artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na koniecznośćrozszerzenia zakresu działań, wspierających rozwój zawodowy osób niepełnosprawnych.Uzyskanie zatrudnienia traktowane bywa jako końcowy etap aktywizacji zawodowejtej grupy osób. Podejście takie nie uwzględnia faktu, iż we współczesnymświecie podjęcie pracy w nowoczesnej organizacji staje się tożsame z podjęciemnauki. Zgodnie z koncepcją life-long learning, rozwój zawodowy to proces trwającycałe życie. W procesie tego rozwoju osoba niepełnosprawna potrzebuje wsparcia,uwzględniającego jej indywidualne predyspozycje, możliwości i ograniczenia. Ważnymelementem takiego wsparcia może stać się coaching – metoda rozwojowa, którąnajkrócej określić można jako sztukę wspierania ludzi, którzy chcą przekształcać marzeniaw cele i podejmować wysiłek ich realizacji.
This article aims to draw attention to the necessity to broaden the rangeof activities supporting professional development of disabled people. Obtaining employmenttends to be perceived – as this group’s ultimate goal of professional activation.This approach fails to consider that nowadays undertaking employment ina modern organization implies long-term commitment to continuing education. Accordingto the lifelong learning concept, professional development is a lifelong commitment.Thus, throughout the process, disabled people need assistance that shouldtake into account their individual needs, predispositions, abilities and limitations.Coaching may become a critical element of this support. This development methodmay be described as the art of supporting people who wish to transform their dreamsinto goals and to make effort to achieve these goals.

The article presents the establishment of the training as well as the professional development of the Polish police managerial staff in the early 1990s. It was closely related to the transformation of police services, which consisted, among other things, in a thorough personnel exchange, especially of the managerial staff. The subsequent stages of shaping the model of training police executives in the second half of the 1990s, which was associated with the creation of a personnel reserve, were then characterised. The 1998 reform of the territorial administration system also had a signifi cant impact on human resources and the training policy.

This paper investigates how the values of negative feedback from students’reflections should be exploited and utilized as an approach of pedagogical development. It was extracted as a step of the 3-year-action-research circles with an empirical study using the data collected from 96 cases of students’ reflections in a university of Poland for both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Regardless the limitation of the diversity of the research tools and types of data, the study found the noticeable lessons through the process of problematizing the significant learning. The data was framed from the negative awareness at the wording and surface levels for quantitative descriptive and then these signals were directed to locate the messages holding the negative signals for qualitative analysis. Eight groups of codes were categorized using Atlas.ti from 172 quotations, extracted from 140 extracts of 96 cases of students’ reflections. The findings show that the negative signals are important to the teacher’s modifications and actions to alternate the future plans and teaching. In addition, seven problems were also generated from analyzing the quotations using this design. The attempts to fix these problems would facilitate the teachers to improve the skills of teaching and quality of the course. A different way of looking at students’ negative signals of this paper could be seen as an innovative approach to pedagogical development in comparison to the common usage of feedback itself which has been exploited divergently in education.
