The turbulent 1991 appears in Stanislav Rosovetsky’snovel The Revenge of the Printer (Помста Першодрукаря, 2009) as theidentity crossroads for the Ukrainian nation, paralleled by the similar situation inlate 16th century. Although the novel may be perceived as the historical adventurenovel, the author views it through the prism of the academic novel. Initiallyset in the research division of the Ivan Fedorov Museum in 1991 and in the timesof Ivan Fedovor in the 1590s, the novel addresses contentious questions, like therole of intellectuals in the times of political change, the notions of national andacademic identity throughout time and geopolitical space.

The article presents the technique currently used in the production of rapid prototyping systems, which have only a few years represent a new trend in the implementation of projects in the automotive industry. The use of modern techniques for rapid prototyping and implementation of models of assemblies and auto parts, is possible thanks to the highly developed and functioning for many years, the techniques of computer-aided design CAD/CAM.

The paper discusses the results of wind tunnel tests of airfoils with additional active airflow applied to their upper surfaces. These studies were carried out for a range of velocities up to 28 m/s in an open wind tunnel. Several types of airfoils selected for the examination feature different geometries and are widely applied in today’s avia¬tion industry. The changes in the lift and drag force generated by these airfoils were recorded during the study. The test bench for the tests was equipped with a compressor and a vacuum pump to enable airflow through some holes on the airfoil upper surface. A rapid prototyping method and a 3D printer based on a powder printing technique were applied to print the airfoils. All of their surfaces were subject to surface grind¬ing to smooth their external surfaces. The wind tunnel tests with and without active airflow applied to airfoils are summarised in the paper.

In telegraph systems using the Morse code or other special alphabets, it is necessary to translate the message into such an alphabet (code) at input and turn it back into an open text, written in the alphabet used in the destination country, at output. As character encoding delays the flow of telegrams and leads to errors and distortions, innovators quickly started to seek solutions that would allow for transmitting and delivering the text of the message directly in a commonly used alphabet. The article focuses on their designs, ie printing telegraphs, not to be confused with teleprinters that only mark indentations on a moving paper tape. Its aim is to present the evolution of these devices in the early stage of their development, up until the 1930s, the time of accelerated advances in electromechanics, and compare them on the basis of historical technical specifications as seen from an engineer’s perspective. Through an extensive use of German reference sources, the article also specifies which solutions were being employed by the partitioning powers, especially Austria, in the Polish lands.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie typologii sygnetów drukarskich stosowanych przez impresorów działających na ziemiach polskich od XV do połowy XVII stulecia, a zatem od momentu, gdy ów element wytłoczony został w polskim druku po raz pierwszy, do chwili, gdy polska typografia (a wraz z nią i sygnet) przeżywać zaczęły wyraźny kryzys. Wydzielony tymi ramami chronologicznymi zbiór liczy ponad 100 znaków impresorskich, a zatem na tyle dużo, by potrzebne, a wręcz konieczne, było jego uporządkowanie. Metodą, która pozwala uczynić to możliwie najprzejrzyściej, jest wyodrębnienie w ramach przedmiotu badań poszczególnych typów, co odbywa się na podstawie odpowiednio dobranych kryteriów. Odpowiednio, czyli tak, by uwzględniały każdy aspekt badanej materii i pozwalały na ukazanie jej w sposób jak najpełniejszy. W przypadku sygnetów drukarskich kryteria te muszą mieć nade wszystko na względzie fakt, że godła impresorskie są nie tylko elementami typograficznymi, ale i graficznymi, co powoduje, że rozpatrywać je należy w świetle zarówno typografii (czy szerzej bibliologii), jak i sztuki graficznej. Wziąwszy to pod uwagę, bogaty i wielce zróżnicowany zespół, jaki tworzą polskie sygnety używane od XV do połowy XVII wieku, uporządkować można na podstawie trzech kryteriów: chronologicznego, ikonograficznego i związanego z morfologią książki.
This article provides the reader with an overview of the printer marks used by printing offices and printing houses in the Polish and Lithuanian Commonwealth from the fifteenth century to the first half of the seventeenth century, i.e. from the time when the colophon, including the printer’s logotype, appeared in a Polish publication for the first time to the times when Polish typography was beset by a particularly pronounced crisis. The adopted chronological timeframe for the purpose of the article includes thus more than a hundred printers’ marks, a large enough number to be attended with the appropriate clarification and classification. A method that allows us to proceed with the task in a most clear way is to isolate individual types, which can be done in relation to particular adopted appropriate criteria. Appropriately, meaning in such a way so that they include each and every aspect of the matter under investigation and make it possible to present it in a most extensive way. In the case of printer marks, these criteria must primarily take into consideration the fact that the latter are not only typografic elements but graphical ones as well, which necessitates an approach in which they should be studied both in view of typography, or, more broadly of the study of the book, and also that of the graphical art. Taking it all into account, the rich and widely diversified group of Polish printer’s marks used from the fifteenth century to the first half of the seventeenth century can be classified according to the three following criteria: chronological, iconographical and those related to the morphology of the book.

Objectives This report shows the relationship between toner exposure and respiratory effects for individuals with a longterm occupational toner-handling history, from 2004 to 2013. Material and Methods Authors studied 752 Japanese male workers in toner handling workshops. A total of 673 men who participated in an annual monitoring survey were analyzed in this study. The following monitoring was performed in the same season each year: personal exposure measurements, biological markers, respiratory function tests, a chest X-ray, chronic respiratory symptoms and incidences of respiratory diseases. To evaluate the toner exposure effect, the exposure categories suitable for each evaluation index were established. Results For those with an occupational toner-handling history, the mean occupational toner-handling period was 14.36 years (standard deviation = 6.62); one participant had 35 years of exposure, which was the longest and one participant had 1 year of exposure which was the shortest. There were no statistically significant differences in the rate of change of respiratory function tests. An ANOVA conducted on blood and urine test results showed that statistically significantly differences were observed for a few items but all the values were very low and within the standard range. Conclusions Authors conducted a 10-year ongoing study, but no obvious negative influences on health were attributed to toner exposure. In a work environment where adequate administrative controls are in place, personal toner exposure levels may be expected to be low, with no adverse effects on human health. Purpose: This article focuses on a comparative analysis of the technology of additive shaping and multi-axis CNC machining. The authors examine the impact of 3D printing assumptions and CNC machining conditions on the strength of the selected PET material used to produce machine elements on the example of a shaft-type element. The purpose of the study is to identify a better production method. Design/methodology/approach: The analysis was carried out by producing six samples of different diameters and lengths from the same thermoplastic material (ethylene terephthalate) by both 3D printing (FDM) and CNC machining. The resulting samples were subjected to a static compression test, for which a universal testing machine by Zwick & Roell 100 kN was used. The following factors during the production of elements were compared: the difficulty of preparing the project, the time of execution, the cost of execution, the accuracy of the execution and the properties of the elements made. Findings: Elements made by CNC machining have higher compressive strength and yield strength, as well as lower relative expansion and relative shortening. Those produced by CNC machining are created as a monolith (semi-finished product), and the printed elements are incrementally shaped layer by layer. During the strength test, the spaces between the layers decrease, which in turn causes an increase in relative shortening and a decrease in strength properties. Research limitations/implications: Further research is planned on the analysis of manufacturing technology using incremental shaping technology (e.g. change of filling density, change of filling type, change of material) compared to CNC machining. Practical implications: In the conducted tests, a universal method was used, which can be translated into a comparative study of elements made of other materials. Originality/value: The research carried out allowed for the initial assessment of the use of PET material for the production of machine elements through 3D printing and CNC machining.

Opis:
The difference between children’s innovations and the occasionalism of artistic and adult everyday speech lies, first of all, in their “simultaneity”, close connection with the objective situation and the child’s specific activity. While working in German schools, we often observed that children from Azerbaijani migrant families also tend to use regular and ordinary types of word – and form formation instead of irregular and rarer ones. Foreign children’s illiterate use of word forms testifies, first of all, to the meta-communicative and stylistic competence of the younger schoolchild that is being formed on their part. Indeed, the generalisation of grammatical form is not alien to the modern German language. The use of these kinds of words in the speech of foreign children is mainly because, at their young age, they cannot correctly identify individual word-building elements with the help of which one word or another is formed. With all the striving of foreign-speaking children to streamline the language system in some way convenient for them, to make it “correct”, they themselves cannot avoid paradoxes.
Отличие детских новшеств от окказионализма художественной и повседневной речи взрослых заключается, прежде всего, в их „одновременности”, тесной связи с объективной ситуацией и конкретной деятельностью ребенка. Часто, работая в немецких школах, мы наблюдали, что дети из семей азербайджанских мигрантов также склонны использовать регулярные и обыденные типы словообразования вместо неправильных и более редких. Неграмотное употребление словоформ иностранными детьми свидетельствует, прежде всего, о формируемой с их стороны метакоммуникативной и стилистической компетентности младшего школьника. Действительно, обобщение грамматической формы не чуждо современному немецкому языку. Использование такого рода слов в речи иностранных детей в основном связано с тем, что в своем юном возрасте они еще не способны правильно идентифицировать отдельные словообразовательные элементы, с помощью которых образуется то или иное слово. При всем стремлении иноязычных детей упорядочить языковую систему каким-то удобным для них образом, сделать ее „правильной”, они сами не могут избежать парадоксов.

The article presents a strategy when making decisions on implementing new technologies in a company. The Pryzmat company, which deals in the production, distribution and sales of inks and toners for laser and inkjet printers, served as a case study. The article contains a strategy for the purchase of a device aimed at reducing the costs associated with waste and shortening the time of manufacturing the colourful and black cartridge type 650HP. The scope of the article includes a review of processes in the company using the method of value stream mapping, analysis of the proposed improvement and evaluation of the profitability of the purchase of the device.
W artykule przedstawiono strategię postępowania podczas podejmowania decyzji przy wdrażaniu nowych technologii w firmie. Jako studium przypadku posłużyła firma Pryzmat, zajmująca się wytwarzaniem, dystrybucją i sprzedażą tuszy i tonerów do drukarek laserowych i atramentowych. W artykule zawarto strategię zakupu urządzenia mającego na celu zmniejszenie kosztów związanych z odpadami i skróceniem czasu procesu wytwarzania kolorowego i czarnego wkładu typu 650HP. Zakres artykułu obejmuje przegląd procesów w firmie za pomocą metody mapowania strumieniowego, analizę proponowanego usprawnienia oraz ocenę opłacalności zakupu urządzenia.

The spatial FDM Technology printing enables illustrating a great number of technical issues by creating a model of the analyzed object e.g. directly, during didactic classes. A three-dimensional printer may be used in any field of knowledge, from biology, where the printer can be employed for printing the models of organs (printing of the organs themselves is also possible following the modification of the printer - when printing with TAULMAN Nylon filament, we can print e.g. the elements of bones or cartilages which may be implanted into a living organism) to printing spare parts and prototype elements for equipment, in architecture for printing complex scale models etc. The printer itself is a fantastic device, interesting for many fields of study. The 3D printer will enable students to learn how to program the processors based on ATMega, may prepare new software controlling the printer, design 3D graphics on computers, edit “scans” and files downloaded from the Internet, use the CAD software in practice and print the results acquired on the sets of printers. Moreover, each printer may be freely modified according to our own needs - from the change or transfer of the drive to replaceable extruders - the mechanisms forcing materials. The printer may also be changed into a laser plotter or even a milling machine following a slight modification of the extruder’s carriage or changing force belts into ball screws [1-4].

This article deals with the adjustment of a 3D printer for laser engraving and material cutting. The print head can be fitted with a solid laser diode module, which achieves a compact size while retaining its useful power. Two paths lead to the use of such a concept. It is possible to equip the existing print head with a module, which also brings a number of disadvantages such as, for example, the reduction of the printing space or the need for a suitable mounting design. A more elegant solution is to consider this in the design of a 3D printer and design a system to exchange the print heads for 3D printing and laser engraving. Such a solution allows full utilization of the workspace and simple installation of the effector for the required type of work. According to the installed power of the laser diode, it is possible not only to engrave but also cut material such as thin wood, veneer or acrylic glass. The use of such a machine is not only for graphic elements but for the creation of various stencils, boxes or simple models, which can be made up of plastic-burning pieces. The laser module is controlled by a driver, which is designed for the device. This is connected to a 3D printer control board. It is, therefore, necessary for the control board to have at least two pins, which can be controlled after adjusting the control firmware. Most laser modules are normally equipped with an adjustable lens, which is used to concentrate the focus of a laser for the given distance against the worktop. Thus, the modified 3D printer can perform its function as a multi-purpose CNC machine, while a basic platform similar for both devices is used.

Zespół Nagera jest chorobą o podłożu genetycznym i dotyczy głównie wad w obrębie twarzoczaszki i kończyn górnych. Ich rodzaje i stopień nasilenia są zróżnicowane. Anomalie w budowie I palca ręki dotyczą wszystkich dzieci z tym zespołem i polegają na całkowitym braku kciuków lub ich niedorozwoju. W artykule opisano proces projektowania funkcjonalnej protezy kciuka ręki prawej dla dziecka z zespołem Nagera w przypadku braku kikuta oraz wykonanie prototypu protezy z wykorzystaniem technologii druku 3D. Zaopatrzenie ortopedyczne jest istotnym komponentem rehabilitacji i ma na celu poprawę funkcji chwytnej reki, co ma szczególne znaczenie dla jakości życia dziecka z zespołem Nagera i radzenia sobie w czynnościach dnia codziennego.
Nager’s syndrome is a disease with a genetic background mainly concerning defects in the maxillofacial area and upper limbs. The type and intensity of these defects vary. Anomalies in the structure of digit I of the hand apply to all children afflicted by the disease and involve a total lack or underdevelopment of thumbs. This article describes the process of designing a functional thumb prosthesis of the right hand for a child with Nager’s syndrome in the absence of a stump, as well as 3D printing of the prosthesis prototype. Orthopaedic appliances are a significant component of rehabilitation and aim to improve the gripping function of the hand, which is of particular significance to the quality of interpersonal relationships of a child with Nager’s syndrome as well as coping with day-to-day activities.

Opis:
The article delivers some critical remarks on recent judgements of Polish courts concerning the so called Lodz printer case. The author attempts to apply ratio decidendi form the US Supreme Court holding in the case of the Masterpiece Cake shop in the circumstances of the Polish case, and evaluate the approach of Polish courts from this perspective. The reasoning provided by Justice Kennedy in the Masterpiece Cakeshop opinion seems convincing and universal in the field of equality v. religious freedom controversies, which makes it a proper guidepost in the examination of disputes such as the Lodz printer case. From the presented point of view, Polish judgements occur as justified in not a very elegant manner, however they seem to be correct eventually. Detailed remarks raised against those judgements concern among others the issue of the interpretation of applied regulations of the Polish Code of Petty Offences and the Polish Civil Code. The Polish Supreme Court’s approach to the interpretation of demands ostensibly stemming from relevant human rights provisions is also questioned.

The printer’s mark was used for the first time in 1457 (Mainz Psalter), and rapidly found numerous followers. Initially its function was to protect the printer against profits being taken over by dishonest competitors. Over time, it has become a symbol of beliefs, outlook on life, and the sense of aesthetics of the printer/editor. Ivan Fiodorov designed his typographic mark in the 70 s of the 16th century for prints that were issued from his first own printing shop in Lviv. That mark, as well as the person of the master of the black art and his publications have been extensively described in the rich literature of the subject. This paper is an attempt at polemics with certain determinations of Russian and Ukrainian researchers on the subject of that mark, trying to prove that Ivan Fiodorov designed only one printer’s mark (and not two or three as it is claimed by some of the researchers), the differences observable in the Lviv and Ostrog prints being insignificant enough to justify the thesis of two variants of the same printer’s mark. Then the author presents numerous, some fairly controversial, hypotheses concerning the genesis and symbolism of Fiodorov’s printer’s mark. Most researchers assume that the iconographic motif placed on the mark – an inverted Latin letter “S” (the symbol of a river) with the arrow pointing upwards refers to the words of Nestor: Great are the benefits from book learning [. . . ] as we gain wisdom and moderation through the words of the books, as those are like rivers feeding the whole world. . . That interpretation is argued against by A. Gusieva who maintains that the ideological centre of the printer’s mark of Fiodorov was the shovel plough – a simple agricultural implement, seeking a similarity to it (the mark) in the shape of one of its elements. To support her thesis the Russian researcher cites the Postscriptum to the Lviv Apostol (Acts of the Apostles) which includes words of key importance for her argument: “shovel plough”, “sowing”, “grain”. In that manner, according to her, the printer refers to be Biblical phrase: “The Sower sows the Word”, perceiving there an analogy to the mission of education and culture proliferation among the people. The paper presents specific facts from the life of Fiodorov and demonstrates that the fragment cited in the text by Gusieva had been taken out of a broader context which totally changed the intent of the printer’s expression. The paper argues in favour of the aquatic symbolism of the iconographic motif placed on the printer’s mark of Ivan Fiodorov as the most adequate to the message it carries.
