    The present paper is aimed at presenting selected psychological factors which may facilitate formation to the priesthood and those which may hinder seminary formation and the subsequent life of the priest. I separated two potential sources of hindrances: factors of a psychological nature and traits of personality. I proved that deficiencies in religious life and lack of support in the priestly com-munity are the reason of high anxiety and depressive states in clergy. As for per-sonality, I indicated emotional instability, introvertive tendencies, high selfreli-ance and autonomy, difficulties in accepting authority and inclination to dissimu-lation – as factors which hinder the fulfillment of vocation to the priesthood.

    Problematyka podjęta w artykule dotyczy sakramentu święceń, a ściśle przygotowania do święceń według wymogów Kodeksu Prawa Kanonicznego z 1983 r. i nowego Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis, które zostało wydane w 2016 r. W pierwszej części artykułu zaprezentowano kanony odnoszące się do wymogów ważności święceń oraz ich godziwości. Druga część jest prezentacją norm zawartych w Ratio fundamentalis. W artykule przytoczono także inne, obowiązujące normy prawa, które są przejawem troski Kościoła o właściwą formację przyszłych kapłanów.
    The study focuses on the sacrament of Holy Orders, in particular the preparation process to sacred ordination according to the requirements of the 1983 Code of Canon Law and the new Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis published in 2016. Canons relating to the prerequisites of the validity of sacred ordination and their fairness were presented in part one of the article. The norms included in Ratio fundamentalis were introduced in part two. Other binding rules of law which are the object of Church concern of proper formation of priests-to-be were also mentioned in the article.

    Sobraniye prypadkov – dialog gatunkowo zbliżony do katechizmu, opublikowany w supraskiej typografii w 1722 r., powstał pod redakcyjną opieką Leona Kiszki – metropolity kijowskiego, intelektualisty, nauczyciela, tłumacza, redaktora i autora wielu dzieł, hierarchy – reformatora związanego z synodem zamojskim (1720), tak ważnym dla Kościoła zjednoczonego z Rzymem. Trudno określić, w jakim stopniu Kiszka był zaangażowany w przygotowanie Sobraniya adresowanego do konsekrowanych odbiorców, ale nie ulega wątpliwości, że był autorem siedmiostronicowej przedmowy do tego wydania. Ten otwierający ramę wydawniczą księgi paratekst został potraktowany przez biskupa jako skuteczny kanał przekazu nauk dla duchowieństwa. Z funkcjonalnego punktu widzenia przedmowa jest nie tylko wprowadzeniem do pracy, ale okazuje się formacyjnym pouczeniem dla duchowieństwa. Twórczo nawiązuje do dawnych i nowszych nauk dla kapłanów. Metropolita wybrał z nich znane wątki, argumenty i motywy, ale pogłębił swój wywód, który nie przybrał postaci prostych zaleceń, towarzyszyły mu bowiem nieco bardziej wyrafinowane pod względem treści i wyrazu komentarze. Podobieństwo do nauk zauważalne jest także w retoryce wypowiedzi, a nawet na poziomie kompozycji. Musiało to nastąpić w pewnym stopniu w sposób naturalny, siłą tradycji, ale być może Kiszka celowo kształtował przedmowę. Dodając ją do Sobraniya, chciał wykorzystać kolejną okazję do formowania księży, jednocześnie uczynić przesłanie czytelnym dla duchowieństwa, które było przyzwyczajone do pewnej przyjętej konwencji w nauczaniu. Publikacja omawianego źródła wraz z przedmową – nauką wpisywała się w szerszą działalność edukacyjną Leona Kiszki, który dążył do wzmocnienia Kościoła unickiego poprzez podniesienie poziomu przygotowania duchowieństwa parafialnego do posługi.
    Sobraniye prypadkov (Zbiór przypadków) – dialog close to the genre of catechism published in Suprasl typography in 1722 was prepared under the editorial supervision of Leon Kiszka – Kyiv Metropolitan, intellectual, teacher, translator, editor and author of many works, hierarch and reformer associated with the Synod of Zamość (1720), so important for the Church united with Rome. It is difficult to say to which degree Kiszka was involved in preparing Sobraniye, which was addressed to consecrated recipients but there is no doubt that he was an author of seven–page preface to this edition. This entry paratext was treated by bishop as an effective channel of transmission for the teaching for clergy. From the functional point of view preface is not only introduction into the work but it turns out to be formation-content instruction. It creatively refers to old and newer exhortation for priests. Metropolitan selected from them themes, arguments, and motifs known, but he deepened the reflection, which did not take the form of simple recommendations, but was accompanied by a commentary, a bit more sophisticated in terms of content and expression. Similarity to teachings is also noticeable in rhetoric of statements and even at the level of composition. It must had happened to some extent in a natural way, by the strength of tradition, but perhaps Kiszka shaped this preface deliberately. By adding a preface to Sobraniye, he wanted to use another opportunity to educate priests and at the same time to make the message readable for the clergy, compliant with the adopted convention of teaching. Publication of the discussed source was part of the broader educational activity of Leon Kiszka, who strove to strengthen the Uniate Church by raising the level of preparing parish clergy for ministry.

    This article presents the Church’s vision for the pastoral formation of candidates for the priesthood. Specifically, the concept for formation contained in the new The Gift of the Priestly Vocation: Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis (2016) will be presented in light of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and post-conciliar popes, including St. John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis. Local churches, including those in Poland, can adapt and implement this concept of pastoral formation in major seminaries. This analysis will focus on initial pastoral formation, the nature and aims of pastoral formation, and the study of pastoral theology and pastoral practices in preparation for the priesthood.
    W artykule przedstawiona została wizja formacji pastoralnej kandydatów do kapłaństwa nakreślona w nauczaniu Kościoła współczesnego. Na tle nauczania Soboru Watykańskiego II oraz papieży doby posoborowej, przede wszystkim św. Jana Pawła II i wskazań Benedykta XVI i Franciszka, została przedstawiona koncepcja zawarta w nowym Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis. Koncepcja ta zostanie zaadaptowana przez Kościoły lokalne, w tym także Kościół w Polsce i skierowana do realizacji w wyższych seminariach duchownych. W analizach zawartych w artykule uwaga została zwrócona na formację pastoralną jako etap formacji początkowej, naturę i cele formacji pastoralnej oraz na studium teologii pastoralnej i praktyki duszpasterskie w programie przygotowania do kapłaństwa.

    Prawo do kształcenia członków instytutów zakonnych gwarantuje zarówno ustawodawstwo Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, jak też prawo kanoniczne Kościoła katolickiego. Potrzeba kształcenia tkwi w człowieku jako osobie i prowadzi do integracji tożsamościowej osoby. Dzięki temu profesi i duchowni mogą służyć Bogu i Kościołowi jako pełniący konkretny charyzmat własny dla każdego instytutu. Kodeks Prawa Kanonicznego z 1983 r., obficie czerpiąc z dokumentów Soboru Watykańskiego II, nakazuje rozszerzenie formacji duchowej, apostolskiej, doktrynalnej i pastoralnej na wszystkich konsekrowanych, gdyż dotąd tak szerokie kształtowanie zarezerwowane było głównie duchownym i zakonnikom tzw. „pierwszego chóru”. Wielkie znaczenie dla kształtowania się duchownych ma obecnie nowe Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis z 2016 r. pt. Dar Powołania do Kapłaństwa. Na jego podstawie konferencje biskupów oraz kleryckie instytuty zakonne wypracują własne szczegółowe normy formacji kapłańskiej. Nacisk położony w nim został na wymiar duchowy, ludzki i braterski, apostolski, kulturowy i zawodowy oraz wymiar charyzmatu spajający wymienione wcześniej płaszczyzny rozwoju i kształcenia kandydatów do kapłaństwa.
    The right to educate members of religious institutes is guaranteed both by the legislation of the Republic of Poland and by the canon law of the Catholic Church. The need for education lies in the person as a person and leads to the person’s identity integration. The professions and clergy with this can serve God and the Church as a concrete charism for each institute. The 1983 Code of Canon Law and the documents of the Second Vatican Council mandates the extension of spiritual, apostolic, doctrinal and pastoral formation to all consecrated persons, because until now such a broad formation was reserved mainly for clerics and religious of the so-called the “first choir”. The new Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis of 2016 titled “The Gift of the Priestly Vocation” is of great importance for the formation of the clergy. For this reason the bishop’s conferences and the clerical religious institutes are to develop their own detailed provisions on priestly formation. The significant feature of formation is spiritual, human and fraternal dimension of formation. It is also important to discover charism that holds together all the previously mentioned characteristics of the formation of candidates for the priesthood.

    Te Holy Scriptures Lectures at the St. John Paul II Major Seminary of the Dio-cese of Siedlce from 1918 to 2018 Tis article was intended to show how the St. John Paul II Major Seminary of the Diocese of Siedlce over the last hundred years fulflled the basic requirement of formation for the priesthood, which is the intellectual introduction of alumni into the knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. In the 20th century, the Church in Poland experienced many dif-fculties connected above all with the First and Second World Wars and the communist regime. Nevertheless, the seminary of the Diocese of Siedlce, thanks to the continuous reading of the current Magisterium’s guidelines and the involvement of more and more educated lecturers, constituted an environment for preparing alumni for the demanding and responsible ministry of the Word.

    W tradycji Kościoła łacińskiego przyjęto praktykę łączenia powołania do kapłaństwa z dyscypliną celibatu, który z czasem stał się również normą prawną. Wychowanie do celibatu odbywa się na różnych poziomach formacyjnych, obejmując wymiar duchowy, intelektualny, pastoralny oraz ludzki. Nie można też zapominać o tym, że jeśli celibat rozumiany jest jako norma prawna, której przestrzeganie poprzedzone jest publicznym zobowiązaniem do zachowania celibatu, to wychowanie do wyboru takiego stylu życia musi mieć wymiar prawnokanoniczny, co uwzględniono w nowych zasadach formacji kapłańskiej w Polsce. Podejście prawne do tego zagadnienia może sugerować postrzeganie celibatu w sposób negatywny, jako wyrzeczenie się małżeństwa i rodzicielstwa na skutek zakazu wynikającego z normy prawnej. Takie ujęcie jest fragmentaryczne, a dostrzeżenie prawnokanonicznych aspektów wychowania do celibatu pozwala na przeżywanie tego zobowiązania jako drogi do doświadczenia pełniejszej, większej miłości w sensie chrystologicznym, eklezjologicznym i eschatologicznym.
    In the tradition of the Latin Church, the practice of joining the vocation to the priesthood with the discipline of celibacy has been adopted, which in time has also become a legal norm. Formation for celibacy takes place at various levels of preparation for priesthood, embracing the spiritual, intellectual, pastoral and human dimensions. If celibacy is understood as a legal norm, the observance of which is preceded by a public declaration to embrace celibacy, then formation to choose such a way of life must have a legal canonical dimension, which was taken into account in the new principles of priestly formation in Poland. The legal approach to this issue may suggest a negative perception of celibacy as a renunciation of marriage and parenthood resulting from the prohibition imposed by the legal norm. Such an approach is fragmentary, and the recognition of the legal canonical aspects of formation in celibacy allows to live this commitment as a path to experience a fuller, greater love in the Christological, ecclesiological and eschatological sense.

    The Holy Spirit plays a significant role in the process of the ongoing formation of priests. His activity can be perceived in three aspects. (1) He strengthens the charism given during the ordination to the priesthood in such a way that the presbyter is in constant connection with the Father and with the Son. (2) The Third Person of the Holy Trinity raises anew the pastoral love which is necessary for fulfilling the mission of priesthood and which leads to (3) the deepening of the bond between the priest and God. This enhances the priest's pursuit of his own holiness. The priest should actively respond to the Holy Spirit, Who initiates the contact by his engagement, and he should cooperate with Him for the sake of the salvation of the faithful, in order to build God's Kingdom on earth.
    Duch Święty odgrywa znaczącą rolę w formacji stałej kapłanów. Jego działanie można postrzegać w trzech aspektach. Podtrzymuje On charyzmat dany podczas święceń prezbiteratu tak, że prezbiter trwa w łączności z Ojcem i Synem. Trzecia Osoba Trójcy Świętej rozpala na nowo miłość pasterską, konieczną do wypełnienia posłannictwa kapłańskiego, a także dąży do pogłębienia więzi między kapłanem a Bogiem. Dzięki temu sprzyja dążeniu prezbitera do osiągnięcia świętości osobistej. Wychodzącemu z inicjatywą Duchowi Świętemu kapłan powinien odpowiedzieć czynnym zaangażowaniem i podejmować współpracę z Nim dla zbawienia wierzących i w celu budowania Królestwa Bożego na ziemi.

    On 8 December 2016, in the document entitled Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis, the Confederation for the Clergy updated the general norms relating to priestly formation, applicable to the whole Church. Adoption of the new norms requires the Episcopal Conferences to establish a new national programme of priestly formation. The programme should, among others, redefine the curriculum of the seminaries, considering the circumstances and the needs identified in a given country. This paper analyses the social and legal realities in the present-day Republic of Poland, indicating the most urgent problems to be considered while educating canon law alumni. Furthermore, it posits that canon law should be taught with stronger emphasis on the secular legal regulations applicable in Poland, particularly civil law and family law. The analysis also reveals a certain anachronism in the regulations governing dealings with church property.
    W dniu 8 grudnia 2016 r. Kongregacja ds. Duchowieństwa w dokumencie „Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis” dokonała nowelizacji ogólnych norm dotyczących formacji kapłańskiej dla całego Kościoła. Przeprowadzona nowelizacja zrodziła konieczność opracowania przez poszczególne Konferencje Episkopatów krajowego programu formacji kapłańskiej. Program formacji krajowej powinien między innymi na nowo określić program studiów seminaryjnych, uwzględniając specyfikę i potrzeby danego kraju.  Prezentowany artykuł poprzez analizę współczesnych realiów społeczno-prawnych istniejących w Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej wskazuje na najbardziej palące problemy, które powinny być uwzględnione w procesie kształcenia alumnów w dziedzinie prawa kanonicznego i postuluje, aby prawo kanoniczne było wykładane z większym uwzględnieniem regulacji prawa świeckiego obowiązującego w Polsce, zwłaszcza prawa cywilnego i rodzinnego. Dokonana analiza wskazuje również na pewien anachronizm w zakresie uregulowań obrotu majątkiem kościelnym.

    Opis:
    The author of the article refers to the notion of the Divine Mercy as understood by sister Faustina Kowalska. Due to the fact that there is a problem with defining the term of the Divine Mercy, at the beginning of the article the author attempts to interpret the message to priests included in the “Diary” by saint Faustina. Then he presents his own experience with his priestly service to patients in the Central Clinical Hospital of the Medical University in Warsaw. The third part of the article is a theological analysis of the term “Divine Mercy” in the “Diary” by saint Faustina.

    Opis:
    Both the Synod of Bishops of 1990 which was dedicated to the formation of priests and the Exhortation of John Paul II, “Pastores Dabo Vobis” have had an essential influence on the reorganization of the priestly formation in the Church. During the preparations for the Synod, John Paul II throughout one year, during his Angelus meditations undertook the most important to-pics concerning the priesthood and the priestly formation. The Pope discus-sed the challenges and tasks of the priests of to-day and of the candidates to the priesthood. He pointed to the need of the Church’s prayer for vocations, the role of family and seminary, as preparing communities for the priesthood. He presented some important dimensions of the priesthood such as its Trinitarian nature, its close relationship with Christ and the cooperation of priests with the power of the Holy Spirit. He showed a special relationship of priests with the Mary, Mother of God who is an educator of the priestly vocations and Mother of priests. Then he emphasized that the priests should be men of faith, hope and love, living in fraternal communion and in the unity with God, prayerful, immersed in God’s wisdom. He emphasized that the priests must live radicalism of the Gospel, especially the evangelical counsels: poverty, obedience, chastity of priestly celibacy. Finally the Pope called attention to the activity of priests, which should manifest themselves as collaborators of God, as ministers of reconciliation and of the Eucharist, as men capable for sacrifice, sensible for the suffering and disposed for missionary work.

    The aim of this article is to present the role of psychologist in the formation in a higher theological seminary on the basis of Ratio fundamentalis institutionis sacerdotalis “The Gift of Priestly Vocation” and the experience of Polish psychologists. The contribution of psychology is valuable both for formation guides and for seminarians in two areas: in the assessment of personality, expressing an opinion about candidate’s psychological health and in psychotherapeutic accompaniment to assist in growth in human maturity. The field of psychologist’s competence is unable to make a judgment on the suitability of seminarians for priesthood.

    Opis:
    The last Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis was published in1970 and updated in 1985. In the meantime, and particularly under the effectof the rapid changes in the modern world, the historical, socio-cultural andecclesial contexts have changed, in which the priest is called to make manifest the mission of Christ and the Church. This has also led to significantchanges in related matters: the image or the view of the priest, the spiritualneeds of the People of God, the challenges of the new evangelisation, andthe languages of communication, to name just a few. In this situation, it seemed that priestly formation needed to be relaunched, renewed and returned to the centre. On 8 December 2016, therefore, the Congregation for the Clergy published the new Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis,a tool for the formation of priests. It has taken up the contents, methods andapproaches presented so far in the field of formation, updating them andintroducing new elements. The document restates the guidelines offeredin the Apostolic Exhortation Pastores Dabo Vobis regarding an integratedformation of seminarians. In this formation, the formators and professors arecalled to demonstrate the close relationship between theology, the spirituallife and the pastoral ministry. This is so in order that the candidate for thepriesthood might become a good shepherd of the People of God and havea compassionate and merciful heart like Christ.
