Opis:: The precariat is a notion and a phenomenon that has drawn special attention of economists since the turn of 20th and 21st centuries. The article is based on the assumption that the precariat involves unwanted and long-term insecurity and uncertainty, a highly changeable situation on the labour market and many other negative consequences. The paper advances the thesis according to which the phenomenon in ques-tion will escalate and be experienced by a growing number of people who have reached pre-retirement age and are no longer mobile in occupational terms. The article is aimed at presenting reasons of possible growth of the problem under discussion, as well as the consequences faced by people who deal with it. Last but not least, potential ways of fighting precarity will be discussed. The analysis will be based on the literature on the subject, data derived from Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS) and Eurostat, as well as research con-ducted by the author.

Opis:: Introduction: Authors analyze aspects of social stratification proposed by Guy Standing with respect to key medical professions performing work in Polish publicly funded medical entities. Purpose: The aim of the paper is to assess how health care providers can be assigned to particular classes and if the precarity phenomenon occurs in their work environment. Materials and methods: An overview of statistical data was made on how health care providers performed their work in years 2005- 2014 and the pay rates in 2014. Results: The vast majority of medical staff employed on the basis of civil law contracts were doctors. A smaller number of civil law contracts has been concluded by nurses and midwives. The number of nurses performing work on this kind of contracts has increased considerably since 2005 and in 2014 there were 10.27% of them. A senior nurse earned PLN 2,600.00. It was very small in comparision with average gross remuneration in the national economy in 2014 amounted to PLN 3,783.46. Unemployment existed in population of nurses was 2.3–2.8%. It is called tyhe natural unemployment. Conclusions: It was found that precarity phenomena occur in the Polish healthcare system although none of the professions met all the criteria attributed to the precariat.

Opis:: The author of this study explains the concept of precariat according to G. Standing. The text is an analysis of the legal causes of the emergence of a new class – the precariat in Poland. The author compares employment conditions based on an employment contract for an indefinite period with atypical forms of employment and indicates that the latter are deprived of elementary security. The text also explains what actions the Polish state has taken to minimize the number of people belonging to the precariat.
Autor niniejszego opracowania wyjaśnia pojęcie prekariatu według G. Standinga. Tekst jest analizą przyczyn prawnych powstawania nowej klasy prekariatu w Polsce. Autor porównuje warunki zatrudnienia opartego o umowę o pracę na czas nieokreślony z nietypowymi formami zatrudnienia oraz wskazuje, że te ostatnie są pozbawione elementarnej ochrony. Tekst wyjaśnia też jakie działania podjęło państwo polskie celem minimalizacji osób należących do prekariatu.

Opis:: Precariat refers to a situation where people are forced to make a living out of work which is low- quality, insecure, temporary, low-paid, with little or no promise of promotion, without social insurance, and often off-the-books. The concept of precariat goes beyond the form of employment and encapsulates several factors that determine whether a particular job/form of employment exposes an employee to instability of employment, lack of union protection (protection of interests), or social and economic insensitivity. The article aims, in the first place, to answer the question of whether precariat is a global phenomenon. Does it look the same in the rich North and poor South? Is it justified to view it as a structural characteristic of contemporary labour? To address the problem, the classification proposed by Rodgers and Rodgers (1989) and revised by Duell (2004) is employed.

Opis:: At the centre of our interest is the construction of relationship between the work and the private life, based on empirical material from the PREWORK research project, devoted to the experiences of young Poles on the labour market. The main thesis of the paper is that within the context of the construction of relationships between the work and the private life of young Poles suffering from the construction of relationships between the work and the private life of young Poles suffering from precarious situation, the sphere of work is dominating the sphere of private life. The private life, in turn, just as professional career, is subject to secondary precarisation. On the basis of selected empirical cases (autobiographical narrative interviews using the method developed by Fritz Schütze) we analyze the ways in which the relationships between the work and the private life are presented in biographical materials. We place main emphasis on relationships between those two spheres as part of deepening or mitigation of precariousness which is treated as a potential source of trajectory, in the sense given to the latter term by Fritz Schütze.

We cannot think about the future of our globe without fi nding the solution to those outstanding issues. Opis:: Precarity and Loss: On Certain and Uncertain Properties of Life and Work is composed of an extensive introduction outlining the scope of the book and five chapters examining various discourses on uncertainty in order to assess and represent the possibilities of escaping may be provisionally differentiated into material precarity and existential precariousness. Each of the chapters addresses a different set of questions-of what, how, why, where, and who-thereby ordering the content according to the inquiries that are basic in information gathering and problem solving. The first chapter poses the question “What?”, predominantly with regard to loss as well as time, and comments on two major issues: perishability and the idea of having time. The focus in the second chapter is on “How?”, particularly on how time and work are used, and on the relations between economy and aesthetics, illustrated by the discussion of, inter alia, John Ruskin’s discourses on work and art, or Oscar Wilde’s notion of individualism. The third chapter revisits the uncertainty in / of Descartes’s writing and examines “the threat of there being nothing instead of something” that Rachwał sees as standing “behind the founding question of metaphysics asking ‘Why is there something instead of nothing?’” (Heidegger as cited in Rachwał, 2016, p. 51). The fourth chapter is dedicated to the question “Where?” and investigates the spaces, physical and conceptual, that answer to and oppose precarity and precariousness. The final chapter is a manifesto of sorts which, by addressing those subjected to precarity and precariousness, performatively re-constitutes them as subjects, turning them into a collectivity of “the Precariat; or All Together Now” (p. 105).

Opis:: The increase of the Polish minimum pay can be considered in different contexts. From the perspective ofvarious industries it is quite cheap. From the perspective of the employees concerned, it turns into a senseof security and greater satisfaction with the payment received. From the perspective of the precariat, theminimum pay is an opportunity to get rid of uncertainty. What is more, the minimum pay is also associatedwith other ideas, such as basic income, maximum pay or unification of the minimum pay across the EuropeanUnion. Appropriate combination and introduction of these ideas may lead to a decrease in the number ofprecariates and to increased satisfaction with the work amongst Poles. These considerations may be thebeginning of a discussion on introducing the basic income.
