The wind power which has been expected to be a promising alternative energy source can bring new challenges when it is connected to the power grid due to the fluctuation nature of the wind and the comparatively new types of its generators. This paper illustrates a possible solution to mitigate these integration issues of the wind power by application of the energy storage to the wind farm in power systems focusing on its short-duration perspective. The simulation model for the Energy Storage System (ESS) connected to the wind farm is implemented using the Power System Simulator for Engineering(PSS/E) which is one of the most widely used program for the power system analysis in US. Employing a sample power system, the control effect of the ESS for mitigating the wind generation related power quality issues by suppressing the power flow fluctuation of the wind farm, and improving power system stability is validated. The counteracting effect of the ESS in the wind farm to the disturbance on the grid is also shown.

Opis:
This paper presents a system that provides photovoltaic generation as well as the functions of a unified power quality conditioner. The system can be controlled for current harmonics and reactive power compensation simultaneously by using a converter operating as active shunt filter. The other converter is used as active series filter and it compensates voltage harmonics or voltage sags and swells. Using only an inverter in photovoltaic energy conversion process, the system presents increased efficiency when compared to the conventional systems. The synchronous reference frame method is used to control the three-phase converters. Simulation results demonstrate the good performance of the proposed configuration. Experimental results corresponding to the operation of the series filter as voltage sag compensator are presented.

Paper characterized the power infrastructure on rural areas in the province of Małopolska. The values of selected indices describing technical state of the power networks as well as the quality of electric energy supplies were also analysed. Moreover, the comparisons between urban and rural areas in this respect were presented.

Przeprowadzono ocenę jakości wiejskich sieci dystrybucyjnych na tle jakości sieci miejskich oraz zmian, jakie zaszły w tym zakresie w Polsce w latach 2001-2007. Praca zawiera także ocenę ilościową i wartościową tych sieci. Cel pracy zrealizowano na przykładzie sieci średniego i niskiego napięcia, znajdujących się w rejonie obsługi energetycznej trzech wybranych spółek dystrybucyjnych.
The study was carried out to assess the quality of rural power distribution networks, against a background of urban networks quality and the changes having been occurred in this field in Poland within 2001-2007. Investigations included also a quantitative and valuable evaluation of these networks. The aim of work has been realized on an example of the medium and low voltage networks localized on the area of energy supply by 3 selected distribution companies.

Opis:
The Voltage flicker, a phenomenon of annoying light intensity fluctuation, caused by rapid change in industrial and domestic load such as Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF), rolling mills, welding equipments and pumps operating periodically has been a major concern for supply utilities, electricity regulatory agencies and customers. Static Voltage Compensators (SVC's) and Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) have been able to solve the voltage flicker problem by rapidly controlling the reactive power. But, the control of active power along with reactive power control helps to mitigate the voltage flicker problem more effectively. In this paper, voltage flicker mitigation of EAF with STATCOM along with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is presented and performance results of the system using PSCAD/EMTDC software are analyzed.

The aim of this paper is the application of selected time-varying power quality indices combined with detailed time-frequency analysis for assessment of transients in wind energy system. Presented proposition utilizes short-term harmonic distortion in voltage (STHDV) characteristic as an indicator for detail local time-frequency analysis of the transients. Introduced ideas can be treated as hybrid system absorbing both power quality indices and time-frequency representation.

Moc czynna odbiorników generujących harmoniczne prądu bądź zasilanych napięciem odkształconym lub niesymetrycznym nie jest synonimem mocy użytecznej. Ma ona składniki zarówno użyteczne jak i szkodliwe. Rozliczenia energetyczne uwzględniające użyteczność i szkodliwość składników mocy czynnej mogą tworzyć motywacje ekonomiczne dla poprawy jakości zasilania i jakości użytkowania energii elektrycznej.
The active power of harmonics generating loads or loads supplied with asymmetrical or distorted voltage is not a synonym to the useful power. It has both useful and detrimental components. Energy accounts that recognize the usefulness and harmfulness of these components could create economical incentives for both the supply quality and the loading quality improvement.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono próbę standaryzacji metod pomiarowych do wyznaczania wskaźników jakości energii elektrycznej na podstawie dokumentów normalizacyjnych IEC/TC77. Wymagania dotyczą grupy przyrządów realizujących pomiary w systemach zasilających prądu przemiennego 50/60 Hz, a w szczególności analizatorów parametrów sieci. Na podstawie zaleceń przyjętych z dokumentów normalizacyjnych przedstawiono niektóre wymagania określające utrzymywanie warunków kompatybilności (EMC-ElectroMagnetic Compatibility), zarówno po stronie dostawców jak i odbiorców energii elektrycznej. Przedstawiono także przykłady wybranych przyrządów zaliczanych do grupy analizatorów jakości energii elektrycznej, które spełniają wymagania standaryzacji metod pomiarowych i zapewniają zbieżność otrzymywanych wyników do porównywania wskaźników jakości energii elektrycznej w ramach określonej normami klasy pomiarowej.
In the article a test of standardization of measurement methods to calculate electrical energy quality indicators has been introduced. The test has been described in few publications and standardization documents, prepared by IEC/TC77. The requirements refer to a grup of devices that designed for measurements in boosting systems of alternate current 50/60 Hz. They preciselly refer to measurement devices that analyse network parameters, which as multiparameter tools should allow on complex electromagnetic compatibility assessment (EMC-ElectroMagnetic Compatibility) evaluation of devices and systems in circuits of public distribution networks. Following the rules and regulations which are accepted according to standardization documents some of the compatibility requirements on both side-suppliers and recivers of electrical energy have been pointed out. There has been general outlook survey conducted of all possible dangers that can apper when using devices of public distribution networks and also when acceptable quality indicators are overlimited. There have been presented some devices which fulfill demands of standardization of measurements methods. They provide convergence of results to compare quality indicators according to certain standards.

Opis:
In this paper, a review of Phase Locked Loop (PLL) algorithms and symmetrical component extraction methods intended for grid-connected power electronic converters are presented. Proposed classification is based on voltage representation in three coordinates: natural (abc), stationary (alfa beta) and rotating coordinates (dq). The three selected algorithms are described in details: Dual Second Order Generalized Integrator (DSOGI-PLL), Dual Virtual Flux – both in stationary coordinates. The third one, in rotating dq coordinates, is Dual Synchronous Reference Frame PLL (DSRF-PLL). A comparison of PLL algorithms is presented. Also, selected experimental results are given to verify practical application of discussed algorithms.
