Opis:
The paper aims to discuss the means of expressing and inferring emotions using as an example the lexical and iconic layers of the blogosphere of the French Outraged movement. The analysis is based on a corpus of content taken from a dozen blogs written in France between 2010 and 2013. In the course of the analysis based on theoretical assumptions of modern discourse and argumentation analysis, the author concludes that the expression of outrage in the texts under investigation is a kind of emotional form which the active co-authors of the blogs actualize in their own manner and by doing so they create not so much pathos but rather ethos – both individual and communal, based on a system of shared values and beliefs. On the other hand, argumentation through emotions usually takes place indirectly, mostly by means of axiologically charged subjectification of discourse.

Opis:
The political discourse is a complex linguistic phenomenon which has no unequivocal perception in linguistic literature. The inaugural speech of president elect is one of the most important types of this discourse. The tradition of this genre was formed many years ago in the United States of America. It is a new genre in Russia, but it is becoming more and more important. Thanks to the intention of speech (unifi cation of the nation), its emotional saturation, the conformity of its content with citizens’ expectations, the inaugural speech is an effective instrument of political activity. The material for the research was president Putin’s inaugural speech in 2012. The author analyzed the composition of speech, its themes and linguistic features. The research proved that the examined speech complies with all functions of the genre and it also contains almost all elements typical for it.

Speech acts identification by the participants of interaction in public communication The purpose of this article is to analyze the public discourse in terms of speech acts identification by the participants of the interaction. The research material comes from two radio programs (“Radio Zet-Guest” and “The 7th Day of the Week”), in which a journalist interviews politicians. Political discourse is not a field of creating sincere speech acts, but rather a playground on which identifying speech acts is strategically important. The preinteraction is very important, which determines both the creation and perception of speech acts. This manifests itself in breaching the preferred communication behaviors, and instead using avoidance strategies. With the development of the discourse in time it becomes more and more authentic and discourse participants “truly” identify speech acts.

Opis:
The present paper attempts to give an otline of the expressiveness of the discourse encountered in the mass media. Examples are drawn from selected Polish and French periodicals retrieved from the Internet: le Monde, Libération, Tribune, Newsweek, Gazeta Wyborcza. The political stance of these titles is characterized alongside. Main focus is laid on headlines which on account of their localization usually abound most with conspicuous discursive effects, including the ones having specifically expressive character. A priviledged position of the mass media in approaching real life problems is discussed first. Then, various wording techniques implemented in press titles are subject to a thorough analysis. Expressiveness and establishing a particular ranking of values are viewed as two concurrent and close-knit phenomena. Furthermore, expressiveness is shown to reflect current political trends and to comply with main characters of political regime in a given community. Finally, examples exhibiting a high degree of expressive markedness are analyzed. Their peculiar linguistic features result, among others, from delexicalization, NPs exhibiting a strong axiological bias, and neologisms.

Under this approach the image is defined as a complex semantic construction consisting of at least few semantic representations concentrated around labels (basic nominatios). Both weeklies present different images of the politician, using various linguistic and textual means.

Opis:
Metaphor is not infrequently madę use of in political discourse as a suggestive means of expressing a meaning and communicating assessments, that is, as an instrument of persu- asion rendering it possible to shape the recipients’ views, opinions and behaviours from the standpoint of interests of a specified political party or social group. This role is best served by metaphors with a simple syntactic structure, highly conventionalised and em- ploying stereotypical content in their vehicle. In her description of metaphor’s me- aning-creating mechanism, the author emphasises the particular status of metaphoric pre- dicate that is suggested by the utterance’s sender and independently produced by the rece- iver using the metaphor vehicle’s connotation. The valuing so expressed is not subject to direct negation and so is quite powerful in terms of persuasiveness. Use of metaphors car- rying different valuing connotations whilst originating from a single notional field, as well as inventive witty transformation of the metaphor carrier practised in order to divert one’s attention from the evaluating content transferred by the same, can serve to neutrali- se an assessment being suggested by a metaphor. Ludic operations, often carried out on metaphors, enhance by themselves the persuasive power of utterances madę by politi- cians.

Opis:
There are many active processes which could be observed in vocabulary used in modern Russian discourse. The reason of these processes is connected with changes in social and political life in Russia. These changes are noticeable especially to a large extent in vocabulary because extralinguistic factors have the largest effect on vocabulary. The aim of a present article is to analyse semantic neologisms created by means of morphological derivation. The lexical material was divided into three groups on the base of the way of creation of a new meaning.

Political Discourse
Opis:
During the period discussed in the article (1997 - 2005) actors from the Polish political scene were deeply divided by their history - being a part of "Solidarność" or having communist roots. In the process of building their political identity, both right-wing and left-wing parties didn't strive for removing historical divisions but instead they exposed them in order to emphasize their distinctive features. The effect was that communist history became legitimization not only left-wing but also right-wing which was originally born as a symbol of struggle against communism. An assumption taken in this article is that all kind of language including political language is the ever-transforming process being the outcome of changes in social consciousness. This idea contradicts the theory according to which Polish political scene is ruled by ritual chaos. First of all the very target of political discourse is to be listened and supported and this is achieved by being flexible to the audience which requires also being organized and creative. The other politics feature supporting my point of view is richness of rhetoric and phraseology used in discourse. Such associations as those with death, religion or love that were applied in analysed articles are very vivid and thus emotions they cause can be quite strong, which makes political problems crucial on the grand social scale. Finally it is hard to talk about ritual chaos when the great consequence of political discourse is the change in people's attitudes. It appears that the audience influenced by colourful words of politicians and journalists is able to modify their memory about their own history. What we encounter here is the authentic social change that is only possible when social drama is played.

The time of the turn XX and the XXI century in Poland is a period in which the discussion of crime and methods of fighting it is very vivid. People interested in the matter are not only lawyers but, what is more important, also politicians, journalists and, thanks to media, ordinary citizens. The main interest is focused on the ways of reacting to crimes. Questions traditionally asked are: "Will the crime rate decrease when the punishment is more severe?" and, consequently "Should we make law stricter because of the increasing crime rate?". The cause of the discussion is a reform of criminal law, especially some points of new criminal code introduced in 1997, and some proposals of other amendments. Obviously, the tendency to follow strict criminal policy is a combination of many different factors, among others are the fear of crime and the feeling of insecurity, which have been increasing gradually along with the real increase in crime rate. The growing fear of crime was also broadly presented in media. The feelings were used by politicians, who included they ways of fighting the problems in their political programs and election campaigns.

Opis:
Mass media discourse about politics consists of three overlapping fields: public discourse, discourse of politics and political discourse. Political discourse is defined as a discourse of symbolic elites present in the media, including journalists. In news programs there is a combination of political discourse and a discourse of politics: politicians appear in their political roles, while comments made by experts and reporters can be viewed as a part of the political discourse. The main topic of the article is the tabloidization of the political discourse in Polish television news programs. According to Frank Esser’s concept of tabloidization it takes place on two levels: micro and macro, and this paper focuses on the second one. The main goal of the paper is to present how the phenomenon of tabloidization of the media discourse on politics has appeared in Poland since the beginning of the 21st century. Some empirical data from different periods of time are presented to provide content analysis of news programs on commercial and public TV. Differences between the way politics is discussed in public and commercial TV are visible, but the tendency described as tabloidization is observed in both.

An analysis of their forms, contexts of occurrence (political propaganda, advertising, football supporters) and means of diffusion (street talk, electoral manifestos, traditional and new media) shows an increasing desemantisation of this kind of message. Slogans are routinely used by political parties and are widely quoted, regardless of their ideological content, merely in order to create identification or to increase the polemical attitude of their leader.
