The ageing of people is one of the most important social issues of the modern world. This is a global phenomenon, concerning all regions and almost all countries. This problem pertains also to Poland and Germany. The following article is based on empirical studies whose subject were the social competencies profiles of Polish and German students preparing for caregiving of the elderly people. The method of the study was a diagnostic survey, whereas the research instruments used in the study were PROKOS. Social Competencies Profile by A. Matczak and K. Martowska and The questionnaire for the analysis of motivation to work with elderly people for students of social wellbeing majors (self-constructed questionnaire). Research studies were carried out between October and December 2018. In Poland, they involved students from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin and the University of Rzeszów, while in Germany, students from universities of Münster, Osnabrück, Bielefeld and Wolfsburg. German students (200 people) constituted the main group, whereas the comparative group consisted of 167 Polish students. The results of the research demonstrated significant statistic differences in the range of all distinguished types of social competencies between the examined Polish and German groups of students (p < 0,001).

The subject of the article is the level of interest that Polish students show for issues of humanitarian aid, organized in Poland for the current needs of Africa. The author decided to verify the conviction arising from her own observations that the degree of knowledge and commitment for this topic, among Polish students, is rather low. Therefore, she conducted a survey in three academic centres, among students representing four faculties in humanities (98 respondents). Unfortunately, the results confirmed her initial observations. In this group, knowledge about the scope and nature of Polish humanitarian aid for Africa was pour and shallow. In addition, the author drew attention to the low level of interest for this issue, presented by the respondents. However, the author believes that the undertaken study is worth continuing, for instance, with respect to reasons for this situation.

The goal of this study was to determine the preferences concerning Facebook usage by university students in Poland and the Czech Republic regarding their gender and nationality. This study aimed also to discover the relation between the need to be popular on Facebook and three key factors: the number of Facebook friends, activity on Facebook and perceived enjoyment during this activity. To get necessary data, multiple research tools were developed – a questionnaire consisting of four sections and a 12-item questionnaire measuring the level of the need for popularity. Results show that there is no significant differences in the background of Facebook usage between Polish and Czech students. However, there is a statistically significant correlation between the need for popularity and two factors: the number of friends (r = .501) and the level of perceived enjoyment in using Facebook (r = .401). The results suggest that participants feel pleasure while undertaking different actions on Facebook and treat Facebook as a way to increase their perceived popularity.

Opis:
Integration of the European Union has modified the traditional understanding of the notion of “migration”. As Adrian Favell puts it, currently - after the EU enlargement - migration from the Eastern European to the Western European states takes 2 forms: one is traditional immigration into European nation-states; the other one is “elite migration” of the EU citizens whose career strategies are cosmopolitan and post-national. Educational migration may be described as the second form; students are moving temporarily and they are open to decisions to further migrate. It is interesting to examine the links between these two types of migration; I will do this on the example of the Polish society in the UK, where both the labour migration and the educational migration has significantly increased after the Poland’s accession to the EU. My study is based on in-depth interviews, followed by a short questionnaire. The query took place in London in the academic year 2009/10 and included students and graduates of the four London universities: Westminster, Metropolitan, City University and colleges of University of London. In addition, I pay attention to government reports and statistic surveys.

For a couple of years already Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Cracow University has been hosting students from various parts of the world; and Ukrainian students are the most numerous . The growing number can bring, beside the undoubted benefits, not only of financial kind, conflicts on the grounds of culture differences, language, customs and traditions. This problem does not only apply to potential conflicts between Polish students and those coming from such exotic countries as African or Arabic ones but also conflicts with students from more familiar cultures. This article presents close analysis of the study carried out among Polish and Ukrainian students of Cracow university by means of qualitative and quantitative methods. The study shows the mutual image and stereotypes of both groups which may have influence on the process of academic integration of the above mentioned respondents.

This paper describes the experience of working with a homogeneous group of students, ages 18–25 years old, who studied Croatian as a first or a second foreign Slavic language. A few, isolated examples showcase analysis of errors recorded or documented in tests, dictations, and essays as well as oral and written communication with Polish students of Croatian language. The errors are mistakes that reflect interference, the similarities between the two languages. Given the limited space in this paper, we will not offer strategies or tips to avoid these mistakes effectively.

This study aimed to evaluate the COVID-19 pandemic anxiety experienced by students in Poland and its impact on their: social support, satisfaction with studying online and expectations of success in life. The data was obtained from a survey of Polish public and private university students. The research presented here examined the environmental and psychosocial effects of social withdrawal during the first period of the pandemic on the well-being and confidence in their chances for success in academic study. Recognising the individual and social condition of adolescents standing at the threshold of social maturity is essential to understanding the pedagogical and motivational consequences of institutional anti-pandemic regulation.

The article focuses on the contemporary images and associations of Polish university students with their Eastern neighbours – Belarus and Belarusians. At the beginning of the article I argue that Belarusians for a long time remained a relatively unknown nation, not only for the distant Western Europeans or Americans, but also for the neighbouring states. An overview of Polish public opinion research concerning the national stereotypes and attitudes towards Belarusians is provided. 150 surveys with Polish university students in Warsaw and Krakow have been conducted. The analysis of the results shows that an overwhelming majority of university students associate Belarus and Belarusians with its contemporary political situation. Associations with people, their culture and customs are marginal. Moreover, Belarusians were neither familiar, nor interesting, to the majority of Polish students. Thus, the stereotypical image of Belarusians is not well shaped in Poland – until today they remain rather unknown and vague to Poles.  
Artykuł jest poświęcony współczesnym obrazom i skojarzeniom polskich studentów z ich wschodnimi sąsiadami – Białorusinami. Na początku artykułu zwracam uwagę na to, iż Białorusini przez długi czas pozostawali stosunkowo nieznani jako naród nie tylko dla odległej Europy Zachodniej czy Ameryki, ale również dla państw sąsiednich. Dalej jest przytoczony przegląd polskich badań opinii publicznej, dotyczących stereotypów narodowych i postaw wobec Białorusinów. Badanie własne zawiera analizę 150 ankiet przeprowadzonych ze studentami w Warszawie i Krakowie. Analiza wyników pokazuje, że zdecydowanej większości polskich studentów Białoruś i Białorusini kojarzą się ze współczesną sytuacją polityczną w tym kraju. Skojarzenia z ludźmi, ich kulturą oraz obyczajami są bardzo nieliczne. Ponadto dla większości polskich studentów Białoruś oraz Białorusini nie są ani dobrze znani, ani interesujący. W ten sposób można stwierdzić, że stereotypowy obraz Białorusinów nie jest dobrze ukształtowany w Polsce. Do dziś Białorusini pozostają raczej mało znani Polakom.

The author of this article made a synthetic presentation of the results of the research of Polish and Italian historiography (based on the surveys into the primary sources) regarding the sojourn and study of Klemens Janicki at the University of Padua. Preserved doctoral diploma and poetic laurels bestowed upon the poet at the same time allowed the reconstruction of the course of this ceremony and identification of its participants. Academic atmosphere of Padua was presented in the article, including its prominent representatives: lawyers, philosophers and physicians, as well as the group of Polish students from the first half of the sixteenth century.

Wśród studiujących w Padwie przybyszy z Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów, o których wiemy z zachowanych archiwaliów uniwersyteckich, znalazło się kilkunastu Żydów. Ich obecność w gronie scholarów uczęszczających na zajęcia medyczne prowadzone w ramach Uniwersytetu Artystów, traktowana jest w historiografii zarówno jako przejaw tolerancji władz Gymnasium Patavinum, jak i dowód na istnienie w państwie polsko-litewskim swobód religijnych niespotykanych w innych zakątkach ówczesnej Europy. W niniejszym artykule, bazując na materiale źródłowym i dotychczasowych ustaleniach badaczy, przedstawiam krótką analizę sytuacji studentów żydowskich, uczących się w padewskim „Ateneum” w XVII i XVIII wieku. Ponadto, śledząc przebieg karier wybranych lekarzy pochodzenia żydowskiego w Rzeczpospolitej, poszukuję odpowiedzi na pytania o inspiracje i pragnienia, tkwiące u podstaw decyzji o podjęciu nauki w Grodzie Antenora.
Among the students from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in Padua, of whom we know from archival materials, we can find several Jews. Their presence among the students attending medical lectures at the University of Artists is treated in historiography as a manifestation of the tolerance of the Gymnasium Patavinum authorities and as proof of the existence of religious freedom in the Polish-Lithuanian state, unheard of in other parts of Europe at that time. In this article, relying on archival sources and previous establishments of the researchers, I present a short analysis of the Jewish students’ situation in Padua’s Atheneum. Furthermore, following the careers of selected medics with Jewish ancestry in the First Republic of Poland, I try to find answers to the questions concerning the inspirations and desires that underlied their decisions to study in the City of Antenor.
