Wielkość sprzedaży pojazdów z napędem hybrydowym pozostaje na niskim poziomie. Koszt zakupu takich pojazdów często przekracza o ponad 50% cenę pojazdu z konwencjonalnym układem napędowym. Potencjalne oszczędności związane ze zwiększoną sprawnością układu napędowego nie zrekompensują szybko wyższego kosztu zakupu. Jednak grono nabywców takich pojazdów sukcesywnie zwiększa się, co zachęca kolejnych producentów do opracowywania nowych konstrukcji pojazdów i maszyn rolniczych z napędem hybrydowym. W opracowaniu przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące najczęściej występującej kombinacji - silnika spalinowego i elektrycznego oraz autorskiej koncepcji połączenia napędu spalinowego i pneumatycznego z uwzględnieniem wpływu przemian termodynamicznych na sprawność procesu.
The size of the sales of the hybrid drive vehicles is low. The purchase cost of such vehicles often exceeds the price of a vehicle with the conventional driving system of over 50%. Possible savings connected with the increased efficiency of the driving system will not compensate the higher cost of purchase quickly. However the purchasers group of such vehicles is successively increasing what encourages next producers to work out new structures of vehicles and agricultural machines with the hybrid drive. This work presents a discussion on the most popular combination - the combustion and electric engine and the author's conception of connecting the combustion and air drive including the influence of thermodynamic processes on the efficiency of the process.

This paper describes the conception of an individual personal transport vehicle. The conception of the vehicle is based on a mechanical structure of a bike and on a pneumatic engine as equipment of power support. The research was done as an analysis of existing vehicles with main or supporting gas power systems. In the research the expectations of users, technical resources as well as known constructions were taken into account. At the beginning, the technical properties of known methods and modern vehicles available for individual personal transport of people were reviewed. Next, some vehicles which can meet economic, ecologic and environmental criteria were identified. Finally, the authors proposed usage of extremely small and light-weight vehicles. It appears that the smallest, lightest and most economic construction of vehicles should be modeled on the bike. For power convenience on uphill roads compressed air as a supporting power factor was proposed. It also implied the possibility to use supporting power system as main power engine. However, the economic storage and management of compressed gas required optimization system of gas usage. This optimization depends on pulse wide modulation of air valve flow and possibility of air compression. Air compression is possible by driving downhill or on fixed vehicle by human muscle power. Those circumstances warrant to name such power system a hybrid pneumatic propulsion.

One of the alternative powertrain systems of cars, commercial vehicles and mobile machines are hybrid drives with pneumatic motors for compressed air. This paper presents a mathematical model and the results of simulation calculations of piston pneumatic motor. Mathematical model was based on the fundamental principles of mechanics, thermodynamics and rights of airflow. For simulation model parameterization, prototype of such engine was built and installed on dedicated test stand. Performed experimental research allowed achieving values of coefficients and components characteristics used for model estimation. One of the important tasks of this study was to create the control system of the compressed-air supplied engine. For this purpose an appropriate pneumatic and electronic component were selected and also an algorithm was created which would facilitate changing of the engine settings in order to obtain the best performance. Using elaborated simulation model, series of calculation were performed for different parameters of pneumatic motor, like cylinders diameter and stroke, length of the crank, compressed air pressure and valves size. A lot of attention was devoted to determine the influence of control system settings, such as valves opening and closing in reaction to crankshaft position, on motor properties. When discussing the results of calculations considerable attention was paid to the power, torque and efficiency values. To illustrate performance of designed engine, simplified model of light vehicle was used to calculate possible to achieve acceleration, velocity and travel distance.

The paper presents a new concept of applying a rotary vane engine working as the hybrid system including both a combustion engine and a pneumatic motor, which were working simultaneously. In the beginning, review on both unconventional piston engine designs and similar like solutions on rotary vane engines were conducted. Next, description of the conceptual engine was presented. The concept was realized in practice. The prototype engine was built and it was preliminary investigated focusing on problems with cold start and misfiring events which occurred. The engine was tested on LPG and gasoline, however, its main target is to feed it with natural gas. This approach is justified as far as the engine finally might work in natural gas reduction stations and would provide electricity of 1kW power for station’s own demands.

Engines powered by compressed air as a source of propulsion are known for many years. Nevertheless, this type of drive is not commonly used. The main reason for not using commonly is the problem with the low energy density of the compressed air. They offer a number of advantages, primarily focusing on the possibility of significantly lowering the emissions of the engine. Their emissivity mainly depends on the method of obtaining compressed air. This also has an impact on the economic aspects of the drive. Currently there are only a few, ready to implement, compressed air powered engine solutions available on the market. A major advantage is the ability to convert internal combustion engines to run with compressed air. The study provides a literature review of solutions, focusing on a multifaceted analysis of pneumatic drives. Increasing vehicle approval requirements relating to their emissions performance are encouraging for the search of alternative power sources. This creates an opportunity for the development of unpopular propulsion systems, including pneumatic engines. Analysing the works of some researchers, it is possible to notice a significant increase in the efficiency of the drive, which may contribute to its popularisation.
