Lapping is used in the production of components of the highest quality in terms of form finish accuracy and surface integrity. A number of precision manufacturing applications use lapping process as a critical technology to achieve thickness tolerance and surface quality specification. Because of required parts accuracy tool flatness is the key to the successful machining. To avoid its excessive thermal expansion, plate temperature research was taken. This work presents a part of results concerning temperature measurements conditions. Experiments were being conducted during flat lapping with use of ABRALAP 380 lapping machine and infrared camera V-20II produced by VIGO System SA. Firstly the influence of conditioning rings number on wheel temperature rise was investigated. It was proved that number of rings had a significant impact on temperature rise value and the highest were during machine working with all three rings. Then another test was made, to simulate the work during real 8-hours shift. The aim was to determine time of machine working after which temperature would stop rising. Temperature was measure during Al2O3 (95%) elements lapping with use of silicon carbide grains. Tests results showed that after five hours temperature fluctuated around a certain value. In future analysis temperature after five hours lapping will be taken into account.

Opis:
A number of precision manufacturing applications use lapping process as a critical technology to achieve thickness tolerance and surface quality specification. Typical examples of the processed components are pump parts, transmission equipments, cutting tools, hydraulic and pneumatics, aerospace parts, inspections equipment, stamping and forging. Lapping leads to a surface with low roughness and high precision. It is carried out by applying loose abrasive grains between work and lap surfaces, and causing a relative motion between them resulting in material removal. The grains activities in the working gap cause also temperature rise of the executory system elements, including lap plate. Because of required parts accuracy tool flatness is the key to the successful machining. To avoid its excessive thermal expansion, plate temperature research was taken. Temperature is the most often measured physical quantity, second only to time. All advantages of infrared technology have led it to become frequently used technique for temperature measurement. It was also used by authors for lapping process observation. To assure accurate noncontact infrared temperature measurement there is a need to keep in mind several factors, including determining appropriate value of emissivity. Incorrectly, designated emissivity results in bigger measuring error. This work presents a method for determining wheel emissivity and its value obtained by presented way. To find emissivity of the lapping plate infrared camera V-20 II produced by VIGO System S.A. and contact thermometer TES1312 Dual K-Type were used. The experiments were carried out on a plate-lapping machine ABRALAP 380 with a grooved cast-iron lapping plate and three conditioning rings. The determined emissivity was equal 0.95 and was bigger than value from the table, as was expected. During lapping wheel surface is in fact very dark due to charging and covering the waste slurry. Obtained value will be used in future measurements.

Opis:
In metal cutting industries, machining processing, especially turning operation is very basic type of machining. For certain processes in manufacturing, it is favourable and necessary to have certain knowledge about heat generation and temperature rise (including average and maximum temperature) during machining process. Increment in maximum temperature at clearance face or at rake face of cutting tool causes the reduction in life of tool. Similarly, the quality of machined surface, a metallurgical structural alteration in tool and workpiece material also depends on the maximum temperature, temperature gradient and cooling rate of both tool and workpiece. Certain physical and chemical reactions that are developed during the cutting process are directly connected with tool wear, power consumption, surface roughness on work piece material and cutting temperature. The natural low of thermal energy gives significant relationship between cutting temperature and cutting parameters in order to improvement of cutting tool’s wok efficiency, quality and accuracy. The heat distribution in cutting tool, in formed chip and in workpiece material strongly depends on (mechanical and chemical) properties of cutting tool and workpiece material, cutting speed, depth of cut, feed rate, nose radius, geometry of tool, type of coolant used and other parameters. This work presents some results of research done during turning steel 235JR realized on conventional lathe CDS 6250 BX-1000 with severe parameters. These demonstrate the necessity of further, more detailed research on turning process temperature, realized for different materials.

Opis:
Cooking is one of the most common activity in day-to-day life of every woman. In rural areas the transportation of fuel is major problem and the increasing demand of energy for cooking applications is gaining importance and various investigations are being carried out for performance enhancement of the solar cooker. The box-type solar cooker has a complex thermal analysis due to the transient heat transfer phenomenon involved in three dimensions. A comparison of the standard correlation available are analysed for accuracy of predicted results with experimental data. The investigation involves the experimental determination of the parameters viz. wind heat transfer coefficient, side and bottom loss coefficient, inner and outer glass temperature. The extensive data is analysed with that of standard correlations and the significance of the experimental data is checked. Analysis found to have deviation of 3%-20% in experimental and correlation data, which indicates that for accuracy of performance analysis the studied parameters should be determined experimentally.

The paper presents a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) numerical study for a new design of a plate heat exchanger with two different flow patterns. The impact of geometric characteristics of the two studied geometries of exchanger plates on the intensification process of heat transfer was considered. The velocity, temperature and pressure distributions along the heat exchanger were examined. The CFD results were validated against experimental data and a good agreement was achieved. The results revealed that geometrical arrangement of the plates strongly influence the fluid flow. An increase in the Reynolds number led to lowering the friction factor value and increasing the pressure drop. The configuration II of the plate heat exchanger resulted in lower outlet hot fluid temperature in comparison with the configuration I, which means improvement of heat transfer.

The differential equation governing the transverse motion of an elastic rectangular plate of non-linear thickness variation with thermal gradient has been analyzed on the basis of classi- cal plate theory. Following Levy’s approach, i.e. the two parallel edges are simply supported, the fourth-order differential equation governing the motion of such plates of non-linear vary- ing thickness in one direction with exponentially temperature distribution has been solved by using the quintic splines interpolation technique for two different combinations of clamped and simply supported boundary conditions at the other two edges. An algorithm for com- puting the solution of this differential equation is presented for the case of equal intervals. The effect of thermal gradient together with taper constants on the natural frequencies of vibration is illustrated for the first three modes of vibration.

MHD and radiated heat flow on a rotating system of an electrically conducting fluid in the presence of Hall current under the influence of variable temperature is studied analytically. An exact solution of a non-dimensional form of coupled partial differential equations is obtained by the technique of Laplace transform. The effect of temperature, velocity and concentration is analyzed for various parameters like the Hall parameter [...], thermal radiation [...], rotation parameter [...], Hartmann number [...] and results are discussed in detail with the help of graphs. A mixed analysis of a rotating fluid with Hall current and thermal radiation plays a very essential role in the research area such as plasma physics, MHD generator, fluid drift sensor, cosmological and geophysical level, etc.

Opis:
Temperature distribution usually observed in steel beam-to-column end-plate joint after 15 minutes of its standard fire exposure is presented and discussed in detail. Two types of joints are analysed for comparative purposes. The first one is a pure steel connection while the other is covered by a reinforced concrete slab. Numerical simulation of the considered joint heating scenario was performed using the 3D model in the ANSYS environment. Some results were additionally verified by simpler calculations carried out on 2D models using the SAFIR computer program. It is emphasized that due to the local accumulation of many massive steel plates the representative temperature values identified in particular joint components are significantly lower than those which at the same time are measured in beam and column outside the connection. This means that the classic assumption of even temperature over the entire length of all the structural elements of a frame load-bearing structure exposed to fire at any time during such fire, without distinguishing in the formal model any cooler nodal elements, is always safe but very conservative. In addition, as the fire develops the differentiation between the temperature values relating to the beam web and to the beam flanges becomes more visible. This effect is particularly significant in the presence of a massive floor slab adjacent the upper flange of a frame I-beam which effectively cools it.

Opis:
A finite difference solution of an unsteady flow past an oscillating semi-infinite vertical place with variable temperature and uniform mass flux is presented here. The fluid considered here is a gray, absorbing-emitting radiation but a non-scattering medium. The dimensionless governing equations are solved by an efficient, more accurate, and unconditionally stable and fast converging implicit scheme. The steady state velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are shown graphically. The effect of velocity and temperature for different physical parameters such as the thermal radiation, Schmidt number, thermal Grashof number and mass Grashof number is studied. It is observed that the velocity decreases in the presence of thermal radiation. It is also observed that the time taken to reach a steady-state is more in the case of vertical plate than horizontal plate.

Consecutive casting of bimetallic applies consecutive sequences of pouring of two materials into a sand mold. The outer ring is made of NiHard1, whereas the inner ring is made of nodular cast iron. To enable a consecutive sequence of pouring, an interface plate made of low carbon steel was inserted into the mold and separated the two cavities. After pouring the inner material at the predetermined temperature and the interface had reached the desired temperature, the NiHard1 liquid was then poured immediately into the mold. This study determines the pouring temperature of nodular cast iron and the temperature of the interface plate at which the pouring of white cast iron into the mold should be done. Flushing the interface plate for 2 seconds by flowing nodular cast iron liquid as inner material generated a diffusion bonding between the inner ring and interface plate at pouring temperatures of 1350°C, 1380°C, and 1410°C. The interface was heated up to a maximum temperature of 1242°C, 1260°C, and 1280°C respectively. The subsequent pouring of white cast iron into the mold to form the outer ring at the interface temperature of 1000°C did not produce a sufficient diffusion bonding. Pouring the outer ring at the temperature of 1430°C and at the interface plate temperature of 1125°C produced a sufficient diffusion bonding. The presence of Fe3O2 oxide on the outer surface of the interface material immediately after the interface was heated above 900⁰C has been identified. Good metallurgical bonding was achieved by pouring the inner ring at the temperature of 1380°C, interface temperature of 1125°C and then followed by pouring of the outer ring at 1430⁰C and flushing time of 7 seconds.
