Opis:
Physical activity is a basic component of geriatric prevention. Lower physical activity of seniors is a cause and effect of many chronic conditions, e.g. type 2 diabetes, obesity, diseases of musculoskeletal system or cancer. This paper analyzes Polish and international literature in terms of significance of physical activity for keeping and improving health of seniors. Numerous studies carried out at large research facilities all over the world proved that taking up physical activity by seniors is one of the key factors for ensuring better health. It is, however, important to precede workout with medical examination. After that, suitable exercises, their frequency, duration and intensity need to be determined. The conclusion of this paper is as follows: regular physical activity improves effectiveness of preventive measures and treatments related to diseases such as cardiovascular disease; it also reduces mortality rate and prolongs the period of physical and mental activity of seniors.

Physical activity should be a priority for students with disabilities and health problems because it is an important part of healthy living, disease prevention and coping with stress. The awareness of the needs of movement as a therapeutic agent, affects the motivation of students participating in classes tailored to their capabilities, in activities of rehabilitation, physiotherapy and yoga. An analysis of research shows that students taking part in medical physical activities are mainly focused on health and disease prevention; another important motive is course completion.

Background: The main goal of the research was to determine the usefulness of the Integration exercise programme stimulating development in children with learning difficulties who have preserved vestigial primitive reflexes. Their symptoms included weak motor and visual-motor coordination, lowered visual and auditory analysis and synthesis which resulted in difficulties in reading and writing, disrupted emotional development, psychomotor hyperactivity, weak concentration and other symptoms. Material/ Methods: 104 children with learning difficulties and other accompanying symptoms took part in the experiment. The children were trained in the shape of the Integration exercise programme at school under a therapist’s supervision and additionally at home under parental supervision. The children who went through the whole programme were qualified to the experimental group and those who resigned from the programme after a short period of time – to the control group. A pre-test and a post-test, before and after completion of the Integration exercise programme, was used to evaluate the results. Results: It was found that the Integration exercise programme is useful in therapy involving facilitation of development in children with learning difficulties, who exhibit various symptoms. Almost all the obtained results were statistically significant. The Integration exercise programme is particularly effective in the case of children exhibiting a whole set of symptoms along with learning difficulties, problems with concentration, weak emotion control, weak motor development, abnormal muscle tension, weak motor coordination. Conclusions:The Integration exercise programme widens the range of methods stimulating development and the range of possibilities to apply the therapy practiced in psychology, pedagogy and physiotherapy.

Wprowadzenie. Analiza literatury. Wyniki i wnioski.
Introduction. For our ancestors, especially those living from 16th to 18th century, hunting was not only a way to obtain some wild game, but, above all, a favorite entertainment, increasing one`s social position. Moreover, hunting on horseback, using dogs and falcons, was considered not only as a leisure time activity, but as an important physical and psychical strength training of future knights, necessary for defending our country. Aim. Introduction of different forms of utilization of horses, dogs and predatory birds, evolving together with gradually changing functions of physical activities – from life necessities to sports. Methods. An analysis of specialist literature. Results & Conclusions. Nowadays horses and dogs are used mainly for pleasure and sports activities, sometimes also for therapeutic reasons. However, there are some active historical reconstruction groups, successfully attempting to prevent the traditional activities, such as falconry, from extinction.

Introduction: Lower grades students participate in Physical Education lessons mainly for pleasure, as well as for emotional and utilitarian reasons. For many students at this educational stage their attendance in Physical Education classes is the only form of participation in organized physical activity. Therefore, motor activities should provide children with the opportunity for experiences of different kind and motivate them to physical activity. The aim of the research was to find out what are the opinions of early school students on physical activities. Material and methods: The research covered 256 students at the age of 7-10, 128 girls and 128 boys. The method of open categorized interview was applied to collect the empirical material. Results: The results of the survey have shown that the vast majority of children expressed their positive opinions on their participation in physical activities. The students enjoyed team games and various exercises most. Nearly 9% of the examined were dissatisfied with the lack of discipline during the lesson and not observing fair play principles by their classmates during exercises. The said dissatisfaction increased with age. The examined did not show much interest in swimming classes, and the 9-10 age group showed no interest in them at all. Conclusions: The large majority of students, irrespective of their age, are willing to participate in motor activities.
Dlatego zajęcia ruchowe powinny stwarzać dziecku możliwość zbierania różnego rodzaju doświadczeń i motywować go do aktywności fizycznej. Do zebrania materiału empirycznego zastosowano metodę jawnego wywiadu skategoryzowanego. Niezadowolenie to rosło wraz z wiekiem. Badani wykazali niewielkie zainteresowanie zajęciami z pływania, a całkowity jego brak stwierdzono w grupie 9-10 lat. Wnioski: Zdecydowana większość uczniów, i to bez względu na wiek, chce ćwiczyć na zajęciach ruchowych.

The ability to function independently is crucial for successful aging, while an age through the development of involutional changes and risk of comorbidity promotes functional limitations. On average, 20% of people over 70 years of age need help in at least one of the 6 basic activities of daily living. The ability to cope in everyday life is affected by the reduction of physical fitness, sensory impairment and the effects of chronic conditions, falls and injuries. Deterioration of physical fitness is a consequence of muscle mass and strength reduction, impaired neuromuscular function resulted in slowing nerve conduction and reaction time, deterioration of balance, coordination and central transmission. Vision and hearing disorders are a consequence of aging and diseases. Cognition impairment, important for an independence, may be a consequence of degenerative changes in the CNS or dementia. Numerous studies have confirmed the relationship of involutional changes, accompanying diseases, falls and injures with limitations in daily functioning, and maintaining physical activity and implementation of a comprehensive geriatric assessment into geriatric care with an early diagnosis of deficits and implementation of intervention can prevent or delay the disclosure of disability.

The aim of the study is to assess the physical leisure time activity among the students of grade I–III of junior high school (aged 13–16) – during the school year and holidays – and identify possible causal factors of physical inactivity in this social group. The relationship between participation in sport for all during the school year (regular, periodic, sporadic) and during holidays (physically active/passive) and socio-demographic variables characterizing the structure was analyzed using the Chi 2 test. The relationship between respondents inactivity and those traits was assessed using log-linear analysis. The higher the grade (especially among girls), the more physically inactive individuals, the number of which grew during the school year as well as during holidays. The risk factors for inactivity included high BMI, living in the countryside and female sex. In case of girls (76.3%) the risk of inactivity increased by almost 1.4 times, as it did (OR = 0.75) with regard to living in rural areas (76.4%). The chance of being active increases more than 3-fold among those with normal BMI (28.0%) and the underweight (29.9%). Adolescents’ inactivity (increasing along with the grade pupils are in) points to the shortcomings of Polish process of education and an urgent need for system-based approach to promote active lifestyle in this social group.

The objective of the presented paper was to compare the selected variables of lifestyle in first - year students at two universities in Košice. The research sample group consisted of the first - year students of the P. J. Šafá rik University in Košice (UPJŠ, n=918, 651 women and 267 men) and the Technical University in Košice (TUKE, n=653, 239 women and 414 men). We compiled our own test battery named “The risk factors of obesity and its prevention through physical activity” and administered it to students at the beginning of the respective academic years (September 2012 and September 2013). Presented paper focuses on questions related to: the students' satisfaction with their lifestyle, students expressing a need to change their lifestyle, frequency of structured physical activity, motivation to engage in structured physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and a structure of leisure activities. To process the collected data, we used the statistical software R. To test the signific ance of differences between the universities we used the Wilcoxon rank - sum test. N o significant difference between the universities was found on variables indicating the satisfaction with lifestyle. The most repeated lifestyle components that students of b oth universities would like to change were physical activity and dietary habits. These data reflect the findings that in the last half year over 61.5 % of UPJŠ students and 48.9 % of TUKE students were engaged in structured physical activity either irregul arly or they were not engaged in any structured physical activity at all. Another analysis of significant difference (p<0.001) between the two universities was employed to indicate the frequency with which students engaged in structured physical activity. The analysis revealed a higher frequency in students of TUKE. The analysis also confirmed that the gender of a respondent had a greater influence on that difference than the university they attended. The students of both universities indicated that figure (appearance), enjoyment, health and physical fitness were the main motivators for structured physical activity. The difference between the universities, with regard to variables indicating the time which students spent engaged in sedentary behaviours was s ignificant (p<0.001) during both working days and weekend days, where gender had no influence on this difference. Sedentary behaviours prevailed among the most common leisure activities in students of both universities. At the beginning of their university studies, lifestyle of a large number of first - year students at the two universities is characterized by the low level of engagement in structured physical activity and by sedentary leisure activities, with the existing differences between genders and the universities.

Objectives To estimate the prevalence of leisure-time physical inactivity (LTPI) and associated factors among healthcare workers. Material and Methods The cross-sectional study carried out with 2684 healthcare workers from 4 municipalities from the northeast region, Brazil. The LTPI was assessed by dichotomous question. The association between LTPI and the various independent variables was examined through the multinomial logistic regression analysis (crude and adjusted). Results The prevalence of LTPI was 47.9% (95% confidence interval (CI): 46.01–48.80). The adjusted analysis (sociodemographic and occupational characteristics) showed that women and individuals with higher levels of education were more LTPI (p = 0.05). Conclusions The prevalence of LTPI was high among the population investigated, especially among women and individuals with higher education. These results show the importance of developing actions to encourage adherence to physical activity during leisure time among workers, especially among the most vulnerable groups (people with higher education and women), given the benefits of this behavior to health. Decydujące znaczenie w kontekście roli i miejsca wychowania fizycznego w relacjach rodzinnych zajmuje jednak stanowisko samych rodziców. Często, niestety, rodzice zajmują bierną postawę wobec wychowania fizycznego i aktywności ruchowej swoich dzieci, mimo, iż mają świadomość jakie walory zdrowotne niesie ze sobą systematyczne wykonywanie ćwiczeń fizycznych.
This article presents selected aspects of the development of physical education and physical recreation in school education and family life in Ukraine. In recent years, there has been a negative phenomenon in Ukraine consisting in the deterioration of students’ health and a greater number of students who fall ill. Consequently, the attitude of educators and parents towards physical education and sports activities and, even more importantly, their active and direct participation in these important processes play a crucial role in solving the problem. Ukraine is developing its programme of physical recreation for children and schoolchildren, which has a solid normative and legal foundation allowing us to speak optimistically about the future of physical education and physical recreation in Ukrainian families. However, the attitude of Ukrainian parents is a decisive factor in the context of the role and place of physical education in their families. The parents often adopt a passive attitude towards their children’s physical education and physical activity even though they are aware of the numerous health benefits which regular physical exercise can bring. Ukrainian physical education curricula, which may fully compensate for the lack of physical activity among Ukrainian children and youth, provide solutions to these problems.

This paper aims at presenting the results of research carried out during the “Sun and Adventure” project dedicated for children – cancer survivors. The research focused on sociotherapeutic and psychosocial benefits for the Project’s participants. The methods involved questionnaire technique: a slightly modified Polish adaptation of QOLCE (Health-Related Quality of Life in Childhood Epilepsy) and the Polish adaptation of Spielberger’s state-trait anxiety questionnaire in the version dedicated to children STAI – C. The results were complemented by interviews carried out with the participants during the camp organized within the Project framework. Participation in the Project influenced the quality of life of the cancer survivors, although to a lesser extent than it might have been expected. The obtained results are relatively minor due to the high initial quality of life level of the participants. Nevertheless, participation in this program may contribute to positive changes in the functioning of cancer survivors. In the view of future editions of the Project, it is necessary to implement more precise inclusion criteria to maximize the effects of potential positive changes. It appears that such criteria as good health condition and desire to participate in the Project are insufficient to optimally select the participants. Inviting children to participate in the “Sun and Adventure” Project (and similar initiatives aiming at improving quality of life) should be also based on evaluation of the family environment and the financial situation of the participant, as well as the psychological consequences of cancer treatment (for example, anxiety, depression, difficulties with group adaptation). Implications for cancer survivors are following: organized and structured camps involving physical activity and psychological assistance are profitable for young cancer survivors whose social development has been affected by their illness and treatment.

Relatively strongly fixed beliefs, concerning the possibilities of coping with this feeling, make an important cognitive effect in coping with pain. Knowledge about beliefs about controlling pain influence understanding of pain mechanisms. Material and methods: The research covered 48 hospitalised participants of territorial defence (33.94±9.54 years old; range: 21-56 years old), provided treatment in hospitals in Luck and in the region (Ukraine) with the use of standardised questionnaires within psychology of health and documents' analysis. The patients differed with respect to diagnosis concerning the presence of neuropathic pain: confirmed neuropathic pain and not fully confirmed neuropathic pain, and the lack of pain of a neuropathic character. Results: In the case of pain of a probable, but not fully confirmed neuropathic pain, the value of conviction relying on one's own internal abilities to coping with pain amounted to 20.73 ± 2.35. The values of the indicators of the two remaining types of convictions analysed in the research are lower. The obtained results indicate that neuropathic pain differentiated beliefs referring to the possibility of coping with pain on one's own (p<0.001). Conclusions: The obtained results indicate that neuropathic pain differentiated beliefs referring to the possibility of copying with pain on one's own. No significant correlations have been noticed between the level of externalised and extinguished anger and certain types of beliefs concerning coping with pain.
