Opis:
In this work is presented a hybrid intelligent model of supervision based on Evolutionary Computation and Fuzzy Systems to improve the performance of the Oil Industry, which is used for Operational Diagnosis in petroleum wells based on the gas lift (GL) method. The model is composed by two parts: a Multilayer Fuzzy System to identify the operational scenarios in an oil well and a genetic algorithm to maximize the production of oil and minimize the flow of gas injection, based on the restrictions of the process and the operational cost of production. Additionally, the first layers of the Multilayer Fuzzy System have specific tasks: the detection of operational failures, and the identification of the rate of gas that the well requires for production. In this way, our hybrid intelligent model implements supervision and control tasks.

Opis:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be defined as the application of science and engineering with the intent of intelligent machine composition. It involves using tool based on intelligent behavior of humans in solving complex issues, designed in a way to make computers execute tasks that were earlier thought of human intelligence involvement. In comparison to other computational automations, AI facilitates and enables time reduction based on personnel needs and most importantly, the operational expenses. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an area of great interest and significance in petroleum exploration and production. Over the years, it has made an impact in the industry, and the application has continued to grow within the oil and gas industry. The application in E & P industry has more than 16 years of history with first application dated 1989, for well log interpretation; drill bit diagnosis using neural networks and intelligent reservoir simulator interface. It has been propounded in solving many problems in the oil and gas industry which includes, seismic pattern recognition, reservoir characterisation, permeability and porosity prediction, prediction of PVT properties, drill bits diagnosis, estimating pressure drop in pipes and wells, optimization of well production, well performance, portfolio management and general decision making operations and many more. This paper reviews and analyzes the successful application of artificial intelligence techniques as related to one of the major aspects of the oil and gas industry, drilling capturing the level of application and trend in the industry. A summary of various papers and reports associated with artificial intelligence applications and it limitations will be highlighted. This analysis is expected to contribute to further development of this technique and also determine the neglected areas in the field.

Opis:
The paper deals with the influence of oils on surface water pollution. Two mineral oils of petroleum origin, one synthetic oil and one vegetable oil were tested. Properties of the selected oil types were assessed by ecotoxicological tests. The acute toxicity test on Daphnia magna showed that out of the tested oils the most toxic for these aquatic organisms were the petroleum oils. In the phytotoxicity test on Sinapis alba, the toxic effect of mineral oils in comparison with synthetic and vegetable oil was more significant. Oils create oil stains visible under the microscope. It was difficult to differentiate them from Scenedesmus subspicatus. The calculation of growth rate was not relevant and a significant loss of cells was detected. It follows from the summary of the tests results that vegetable oil is the least aggressive for the aquatic environment and there are no significant differences between synthetic and mineral oils.

Opis:
Member countries of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) are always in the news regarding the prices and supply of crude oil to the international market. One of the economic reasons for this is liquidity and the desire to accumulate international reserves by the respective countries. This paper examined the determinants of international reserves among the cartel against the backdrop of the motives for keeping reserves. With data from 2005 to 2018, the adopted variables that were tested with the system of generalised methods of moments (Sy‑GMM) are inflation, exchange rates, oil prices, crude oil dependence, economic crises and others. The results and outputs show that inflation was negatively impactful externally and internally, while FDI inflows recorded negative significance. Economic crises and economic openness were positively significant, while oil prices and exchange rates were not significant determinants of international reserves accumulation. The paper recommends the maximisation of opportunities available by members during economic crises to accumulate reserves that will enable them to diversify from dependence on crude oil exports to include other products and a higher level of openness to open the economy up for competition to make the economies stronger.

Opis:
Petroleum industry began in Galicia region, the former part of Poland which was in 1772-1918 a province of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The birth of this industry was connected with petroleum distillation made by two pharmacists: Ignacy Łukasiewicz and Jan Zeh, who persistently were working to get a liquid without both light and heavy factions of hydrocarbons, i.e. a liquid paraffin of oil. This aim was reached in spring of 1853. That time also a kerosene lamp was constructed by Adam Bratkowski under direction of I. Łukasiewicz. The set of these lamps was used in the Lviv municipal hospital during the serious surgical operation on 31 July 1853. This date was accepted as the beginning of the world oil industry. Next year I. Lukasiewicz established the oil mine in the Bóbrka village near Krosno. Oil wells then were frequently the open ones dug out to the depth of 60 m and from them oil was extracted with wooden buckets by usage of gin. When petroleum deliveries were assured I. Łukasiewicz founded in 1856 the first petroleum distillery in Ulaszowice near Jasło, the second one in 1858 in Kleczany, and the third one in Polanka near Krosno in 1861. In 1890s in the Carpathians the new oil deposits were discovered in the Gorlice-Jasło-Sanok region. In 1888 the Bergheim Mac Garvey Company found the new oil fields in Weglówka near Krosno and the Galician Oil Mining Company discovered oil-rich deposits in Potok, Turaszówka, Iwonicz, Stara Wieś, Rudawka Rymanowska and Wankowa. Discoveries were also along the Carpathians thrust front where exists the zone of deep-seated folds covered by the Miocene deposits. Oil fields are here located at depth of 800-2000 m. In the Borislav vicinity a few very efficient oil fields were documented in 1896. In 1908 the highly productive "Oil City" well with oil production 2500 t/d was drilled. Exploitation in this region of the Carpathians in 1909 was 2x10exp.6 t, i.e. 5%of the world oil production and Galicia was the third producer in the world. During 150 years of exploration, in this part of Polish Carpathians, 67 oil and 17 gas fields were discovered. In the Carpathian Foredeep 50 gas fields and 10 oil fields were documented. The biggest success was the Jaksmanice-Przemyśl gas field with 75x 10exp.9 m3 of resources. In the Polish Lowland in 1946, just after the Second World War, basing on gravimetric and magnetic data, the first drilling was located on the Kłodawa structure and the Zechstein salts at depth of 300 m were found. Later this drill was a base for foundation of Kłodawa salt mine. In 1961 in the Fore-Sudetic Monocline the first oil field Rybaki was discovered in the Zechstein Main Dolomite formation, and three years later, in 1964, the first gas field discovery - Bogdaj-Uciechów was found within the Rotliegend sandstone and the Zechstein Limestone unit. Until now a dozen of oil and gas fields were documented not only in the Permian formations but also in the Devonian and the Carboniferous deposits in the Lublin Petroleum Province and in the Cambrian sandstones in the Gdansk Petroleum Province. Exploration works, initiated after the Second World War, both in the Carpathians as well as in the Carpathian Foreland and the Polish Lowland give premises of new oil and gas filed discoveries there also in the future.

The economical development of the world is based on transportation system. More than half of the products transported all over the world are carried by sea. Sea transportation is made with different kind of ships, as bulk carriers, cargo vessels, container ships, tankers. Ships are managed by people. In group or as individual, anybody can make errors. In maritime area these errors have as results accidents and disasters. Many of these events affect especially the environment. As 80% of necessary petroleum products are transported by sea, the risk of a major environment disaster caused by human errors is high. Anyway, over 99% of petroleum cargo transported by sea is carried without incidents. This paper presents the effects of human errors, mostly cases that involved tankers, which were produced in the navigation and operational processes.

Opis:
The spreading properties of several hydrocarbons (vegetable, engine, gear and crude oils) on distilled and artificial sea water were determined under laboratory conditions using a novel optical method. With the aid of Langmuir’s equation, the geometrical signatures of a discrete lens of each hydrocarbon droplet floating on a water tank served to calculate the entering E (31.30–94.18 mN m−1) and spreading S (−3.50 to −57.49 mN m−1) coefficients, and equilibrium thicknesses t∞ (0.20–1.25 cm). They appeared to be in agreement with the values derived from direct interfacial tension measurements (Wilhelmy plate and stalagmometer methods). Empirical relations of the normalized lens radius rL/rdrop and S on the water surface tension γAW were postulated as being of significant value in oil spill assessment studies at sea. The parameters obtained together with the surface properties of a natural surfactant-containing water body represent the principal input data required for modelling the spreading of a surface-tension-gradient-driven oil spill at sea.

Wartości parametrów pakietów piaskowcowych w poszczególnych profilach wierceń, w zakresie: miąższości, zailenia, porowatości i nasycenia węglowodorami, zestawiono w tabelach wg przynależności litostratygraficznej, porównując je następnie z wynikami oznaczeń laboratoryjnych zawartych w dokumentacjach wierceń wykonanych przez PGNiG, Ośrodek Południe w Jaśle.
The aim of the paper is to present results of application of the Schlumberger's Interactive Petrophysics software to interpretation of petrophysical parameters of flysch rocks in 16 well sections located in the eastern Outer Carpathians, within the area of outcrops of the Skole and Silesian nappes. Values of the parameters (thickness, clay content, porosity, hydrocarbon saturation) of sandstone packages in particular well sections were compiled in tables according to their lithostratigraphic status and then compared to results of laboratory determinations included in documentation of wells drilled by the Polish Oil and Gas Company, South Branch in Jasło. Characteristics of variability in these parameters are illustrated by printouts of interpretation results for selected sections and by histograms of distribution of the clay content and porosity for the Krosno, Menilite and Inoceramian lithofacies in the Skole series, as well as for the Krosno (and Transition) and Menilite Beds in the Silesian series. Clay content lower than 33.3% and porosity higher than 3.5% were accepted as the criterion of distinction of sandstone horizons.

The paper discusses the scattering of radiation by a Baltic crude oil –sea water emulsion. The scattering spectrum calculated using the Mie solution in the spectral range from 380 nm to 730 nm is compared with the measured spectrum of light scattered through a right angle. Spectra in the wavelength range from 210 nm to 730 nm were measured using a spectrofluorimeter for fresh and stored samples of the Baltic crude oil emulsion. Scattering increases with wavelength in the UV range and then decreases slightly with the wavelength of visible light. The result of the calculation is similar to the measured spectra. Both the calculated and measured spectra display numerous relative extremes throughout the spectral area. Light scattering in the emulsion decreases during storage as the oil concentration in the medium diminishes. The results also demonstrate that the single scattering model describes the phenomenon correctly.

Opis:
This paper discussed the treatment of Malaysian petroleum sludge by incorporating palm oil fuel ash (POFA) to replace Portland cement and quarry dust (QD) replaces sand in the solidification /stabilization (S/S) method. Preliminary studies, including chemical composition, heavy metal characterization, density test, compressive strength test, and toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP), were done to evaluate POFA and QD suitability in S/S matrices. The 10% replacement of POFA recorded a considerable density value ranging from 1500 kg/m3 to 1660 kg/m3. As for S/S matrices containing petroleum sludge, the results indicate the possibility to of encapsulating the sludge in the matrices up to 10%. The highest strength of S/S matrices with petroleum is from PS5% samples with 15.61 MPa at 28 days. The toxicity characteristic of heavy metals from the S/S matrices was below the permissible limit set by USEPA. This investigation could be an alternative solution for petroleum sludge, POFA, and QD disposal and has excellent potential for replacing other treatment approaches employed at the advanced treatment stage for petroleum refinery effluents.
