Opis:
Buzhinskii was a well-educated, high-ranking ecclesiastic during the reign of Peter I. In his sermons, Buzhinskii devoted as much attention to the role of religion in personal life as to the nationalistic message presented in the religious context aimed primarily at the glorification of tsar Peter I. although his pastoral messages are mostly uncontroversial from spiritual standpoint, they are too often marred by nationalistic and political aspects.

Opis:
This article analyzes the poetic imagery of the bilingual, Polish-German, author Piotr (Peter) Lachmann. The key images of his poems bring into focus the problem of keeping up the ties between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Lachmann’s term for this kind of remembrance, made possible by the abundance of pictorial records (photography, fi lm) that transcend the linear axis of time, is ‘sepulchral humanism’. While examining the relations between sacrum and profanum in Lachmann’s verse, the article also notes their contamination by depictions that draw on the aesthetics of disgust and ugliness. Finally, the article discusses the German themes in Lachmann’s poetry and his intellectual bond with Tadeusz Różewicz, a poet and playwright with a better understanding of German culture than most Polish writers of his (post-war) generation.

Opis:
The primacy of the Bishop of Rome is an essential, if not a fundamental element of the unity of Church and belongs to the mainstream of ecclesiology throughout its whole history. It is anchored in the study of the doctrine of the New Testament and from the very beginning, starting from the oldest patristic sources, such as the Epistle of Saint Clement of Rome to Corinthians and Ignatius of Antioch’s Epistles, there have been utterances indicating Saint Peters extraordinary role in the universal Church and the significance of his stay in Rome and the foundation of the local Christian community there. The Church Fathers also emphasize that Peter is present in all fundamental events related to the foundation of the Church and it was him who was entrusted with the care for its unity by Jesus. The first writers who start to describe Peter as the Bishop of Rome are Tertullian and Cyprian, who teaches that the Bishop’s authority is like the Apostles’ authority and uses the term cathedra Petri referring to Rome. Although Saint Irenaeus attributes the foundation of the Roman Church to Peter and Paul, in the course of years, especially after the transfer of the Capital of the Empire to Constantinople, he also puts the name of Peter at the top of the list of Roman Bishops. Many biblical scholars and patrologists also emphasize that Paul never laid claim to be the Bishop of Rome.

Opis:
Peter Chaulev (Ohrid, 1880 ‒ Milan, 1924), was one of the most important figures in the Macedonian liberation movement. We have followed his rolethrough historical events and processes that have marked the most turbulent period in Macedonian history, namely theperiod of the national-liberation and revival movements. As an activist of IMRO we met him as a teacher in the villages surrounding Orhis, where, from 1899, he also appeared as an organizer of the revolutionary committees in the region of Ohrid, Prespa and Florina. At the time of the Ilinden Uprising,he appeared as a voivode (governor) in the Ohrid area. During the Young Turk Revolution in 1908,he againreturned to his hometown of Ohrid, where he was arrested and jailedby the newly constituted authorities. However, he was released under the pressure of the residents. His revolutionary activity is significant also in relation to the cooperation with Albanian national activists, especially during the period of the Balkan wars. The result of this cooperation was also the so called Ohrid-Debar Uprising in September of 1913. Although, in the beginning of the Uprising, the Macedonian and Albanian chetas had significant successes, however, the supremacy of the Serbian army engaged in suppressing it, hadinflicted a major defeat on the rebels. After the suppression of the Uprising, Peter Chaulev took refuge at the territory of the Albanian state as to avoid the wrath of the Serbian authorities stationed in the border areas. Chaulev’sstay in Tirana and other Albanian cities enabled him to easily observe the day-to-day life of the population, their customs, but also the state of political turmoil in the country. He wrote and published his observations in the book titled Skipnia (Albania), in Constantinoplein 1924.

The Polish reaction to Peter Weir’s film The Way Back (2010) was centred on a discussion about the credibility of its literary prototype, Sławomir Rawicz’s book The long walk (1955). The author of the article does not discuss this con troversy; she prefers to concentrate on the adaptation that was chosen by the director, who combines different interpretations of the phenomenon of freedom in his movie. Weir’s approach can be regarded as transnational and such a perspective is suggested as a context for the interpretation of The Way Back. .

Opis:
Piotr Skarga has played an important role in the history of the reception of Bogurodzica editing three times and interpreting this song. He reprinted this poem in Żywoty Świętych (1579), in Kazania o siedmiu sakramentach (1600) and Kazania przygodnych (1610). Besides these editorial actions he has developed a separate sermon about Bogurodzica. As a publisher he tried to reprint the lyrics faithfully but he was not a passive editor, who dispassionately, with a distance stalks to the form of the text. He was an active didactic, who aimed this old artwork written in medieval Polish to make fully understandable to the modern reader. Therefore, he added the informative and instructive comments on the Bogurodzica. Skarga wanted to inform the reader about life, work, and the way to holiness of Bishop Wojciech, the alleged author of the Bogurodzica, and give the editorial explanation to the poem; to popularize and extend its vitality. Skarga’s comment has also Counter-Reformative overtone. Jesuit preacher by spreading the cult of Mary emphasized the ideological Polish religiosity after Trident, unchanged from the baptism of Poland. Bogurodzica was to provide the fact that from the beginning of Christianity, there was half an ancient hymn that proclaims devotions to Maria, a tradition which continued uninterrupted despite the spread of different faith doctrines. Skarga as an interpreter of the Bogurodzica explains this poem in a simple way, fully comprehensible to his contemporary readers, however, do not trivialize the depth of theological interpretation of this monumental poem. He used a simple style, avoiding ornamentation and stylistic tropes. He turned out to be a discerning commentator of this venerable monument of our poetry, excellent didactics who proclaim in a clear and accessible way The Word of God, closed in a difficult to understand medieval text.

Opis:
From the historical works of Eusebius of Caesarea we learn that St. Peter went to Rome in 42 and preached the Gospel there for 25 years. However, this information is not confirmed in the books of the New Testament. For this reason, this article attempts to answer the question of where St. Peter could have stayed and acted from the moment he left Jerusalem (Acts 12:17) until his arrival in Rome. The analysis of Gal 2:11–14 leads to the conclusion that after the Council of Jerusalem he certainly stayed in Antioch for some time. It is possible that during his long journey he reached the northern regions of Asia Minor, as a reminiscence of this can be found in 1 Peter 1:1. Then, on his way to Rome, he probably paid a visit to Christians in Corinth, as evidenced by 1 Cor 1:12; 9:5. These texts therefore allow us to suppose that after leaving Jerusalem, St. Peter became an itinerant apostle, carried out extensive missionary activities and, thanks to his personal contacts with Christian communities, gained great authority among them.

Luke’s Sources
Opis:
Recent studies on the role of the eyewitnesses in the formation of the Gospel tradition argue for the singular importance of the original followers of Jesus. Luke himself might reflect their unique standing with his stated reliance on “the eyewitnesses and the servants of the word” (1,2). Still, Luke’s expansion of the Markan call of Peter seems, to many modern scholars at least, precisely that – a literary reworking of the original Markan story. Luke thus appears to resort to literary fiction to confirm the authority of those who guarantee the non-fictional character of his narrative. The conflicting nature of this operation needs to be reexamined. As this article argues, the recent studies on the Lake of Galilee, Simon Peter, and the role of the eyewitnesses offer enough evidence to suggest that in composing the story of the call of Peter, Luke relied on a source that depicted the call in connection with the fishing miracle. Secondly, existence of such a tradition opens new possibilities for reconstructing the past so differently narrativized by Luke and Mark.

Invisible Hand
homo oeconomicus
Opis:
Peter Koslowski’s project of ‘ethical economy’ can be understood as an effort to search for human face of late capitalism. In his perspective ‘ethical economy’ is not a simple combination and connection between economy and ethics but is a new approach which includes three fields: theory of ethical premises of economy, concept of ethics profiled towards needs of economy and ethical and economical theory of goods and cultural values. Koslowski reinterprets problems of maximization found in classical economy. He criticizes the model of homo oeconomicus as the model of a reactive man not understood as activated. According to Koslowski, economical theory of market balance also requires reinterpretation. Without assuming that teleology belongs internally to social reality and therefore to market as well, so to create environment for development of human subjectivity, there cannot exist any theory of legitimization of individualistic economic institutions which protect freedom. Without that, Koslowski claims, there can only be theory of social process authority in which the strongest reinforce their positions. Taking subjectivity and auto-referential character of a human being into consideration is the ontological basis, which allows to reach ethical dimension of decision-making processes and responsibility. By analogy, the mechanism of ‘invisible hand’ requires referring to common good. In the age of globalization ‘invisible hand’ is a source of evil.

Z tej perspektywy niemiecki intelektualista bada konsekwencje procesu globalizacji. Ponadto Kryształowy pałac dokumentuje lewicowe zaangażowanie w rozwiązywanie kluczowych zagadnień nowoczesności. Zdaniem autora szkicu, rozpoznania filozofa mają też znaczenie dla opisu kultury i literatury pogranicza.
The author analyzes one of the most well-known books of Peter Sloterdijk, Kryształowy pałac (In the World Interior of Capital: Towards a Philosophical Theory of Globalization). He notes that Sloterdijk is representing non-academic philosophy. From this perspective the German intellectual is examining consequences of the process of globalization. Additionally, the book documents leftist engagement to solving key questions of modernity. According to the author of the article, interpretations provided by the philosopher are also important for the description of the culture and literature of the borderland.
