The aim of this study was to establish the effect of the genotype on performance of chickens. The experimental material included 1,320 slow-growing chickens with two genotypes Hubbard JA 957 - available on the Polish market hybrid with a declared slow growth and non-commercial hybrid CxGP, for creation of which a light native breed Greenleg Partridge hens were used. Chickens were maintained up to 63 days of age. During the experiment body weight, feed intake and health of the birds were under control. Based on the observations the growth rate and the feed conversion ratio (FCR) were determined. It was found, that chickens CxGP were characterized by lower body weight, slower rate of growth and higher feed conversion ratio compared with the chickens Hubbard JA 957, but chickens CxGP had a higher health.
Genotyp - czynnik warunkujący wyniki produkcyjne w stadach kurcząt rzeźnych. Celem badania było określenie wpływu genotypu na wyniki produkcyjne kurcząt. Badania przeprowadzono na 1320 kurczętach o dwóch genotypach Hubbard JA 957 - dostępnym na rynku polskim mieszaniec o deklarowanym wolniejszym tempie wzrostu oraz CxZk - mieszaniec, do którego wytworzenia wykorzystano kury rasy lekkiej zielononóżki kuropatwianej. Kurczęta utrzymywano do 63. dnia życia. W czasie odchowu kontrolowano masę ciała, spożycie paszy i zdrowotność ptaków. Na podstawie prowadzonych obserwacji określono tempo wzrostu oraz wskaźnik zużycia paszy. Stwierdzono, że kurczęta CxZk charakteryzowała mniejsza masa ciała w porównaniu z kurczętami Hubbard JA 957 oraz wolniejsze tempo wzrostu. Mniejsze wykorzystanie paszy na przyrost masy ciała stwierdzono dla kurcząt Hubbard JA 957. Kurczęta CxZk charakteryzowała natomiast wyższa zdrowotność.

Limiting energy resources has led researchers to find new innovative ways to enhance heat exchanging devices thermal performance in power generating systems. Thus, the present paper analyzes passive techniques of enhancing the thermal performance of a single tube heat exchanger. Experimental and numerical investigation on heat transfer enhancement using aserrated circular ring with twisted tape is carried out. The work incorporates the determination of Nusselt number, friction factor, thermal performance factor for serrated circular ring with twisted tape with variation in diameter ratio (0.8 and 0.85) and pitch ratio (2 and 3). Air is used as a working fluid with Reynolds number 6000–24000. The experiment is conducted by providing a constant wall heat flux of 1000 W/m2 to the system and thereby taking results at a steady state. The experimental and computational findings obtained for the smooth tube case are compared with the standard correlations of Dittus–Boelter and Blasius. Based on experimental and numerical investigation, there is 5.16 times augmentation in heat transfer and 3.05 times improvement in thermal performance factor over the smooth tube heat exchanger. In addition, the study of entropy generation rate for every geometrical parameter has been conducted, and their influence on the system’s thermal behaviour is presented. The results obtained in the present study may help the researchers of the same research area to find similar inserts and new ways of enhancing the thermal performance of heat exchangers.

Hybrid nanofluids is obtained by dispersing more than one nanoparticle into a base fluid. The work is concerned with a detailed numerical investigation of the thermal efficiency and hydraulic performance of hybrid nanofluids for circular jet impinges on a round plate. For this paper, a metal (Ag), a metal oxides (Al2O3) and a metal carbides (SiC) nanoparticle and their water based hybrid nanofluids are considered to analyse numerically with varying significant dimensionless parameters, i.e., the jet-to-plate spacing ratio, Reynolds number and volume fraction of nanoparticles. The results demonstrated that the efficiency of heat transfer of all nanofluids is increased by the addition of nanoparticle to the dispersed in water at constant Reynolds number. Moreover, the results illustrate that heat transfer efficacy and pumping power penalty both increased as jet-to-plate spacing ratio reduced. The jet-to-plate spacing ratio equal to 4 is the best as the percentage enhance heat transfer is maximum in this situation. Since both the heat transfer effect and pumping penalty increase using hybrid nanofluids, thermal performance factor increases or decreases depends on nanoparticles of nanofluids. It is evident that the analysis of these hybrid nanofluids will consider both the increase in heat efficiency and the pumping capacity. The best flow behaviour is achieved for SiC–Al2O3 hybrid nanofluids. New merit number is introduced for additional clarification.

Analyzing the systems in terms of reliability, we often treat them as the technical objects only, omitting human interaction or assuming that operator has constant characteristics. This significantly distorts the results obtained in this way, since human is a part of the system with special properties that can change together with the predisposition of the operator and the conditions under which he operates. These attributes may have a major influence on the reliability of the systems. Therefore, analysis of systems reliability should include a reliability of operator and its properties. In this paper presented the antropotechnical reliability structure based on selected installation, which is a part of ships propulsion system. Also operator’s functions were defined and the analysis of human reliability, taking into account various properties of the operator and the external conditions, were performed. Then, there is assessed the influence of operator and environmental factors on the value of the entire system reliability. The study used the reliability data of the container ship propulsion system equipped with low-speed piston engine, fixed pitch propeller and auxiliary installations. These data were obtained from studies of expert judgments (Brandowski A., Frąckowiak W. et al.) in the years 2007–2009. For HRA (human reliability analysis), HEART technique (Human Error Assessment and Reduction Technique) was used, together with the human unreliability values and correction factors developed by the authors of this method. Study results illustrate influence of environmental, ergonomic factors and the properties of the operator on the reliability of the antropotechnical systems. The studies were subjected exemplification on fuel treatment installation as a part of ships propulsion systems.

Opis:
Heat transfer augmentation has become the utmost industrial desire. Turbulence promoters seems to be a better option for better heat transfer but at the expense of enormous pressure drop. In the current study, experimental optimization of heat transfer and pressure drop in various configurations of ribbed and corrugated surfaces on the bottom wall of the Solar Air Heater channel, having aspect ratio of 26:5 was performed. The results were evaluated in terms of enhancement in heat transfer (Nu/Nu s), friction factor ratio (f/f s) and thermal performance factor ( η). Three different cases and nine configurations with a pitch to rib/corrugation height ratio of 4.0 were studied. Case A consists of a smooth, continuous square rib, inline and staggered broken ribs. Case B comprises 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° trapezoidal corrugated geometries while Case C is the comparison of smooth, wavy corrugated and the best configurations of cases A and B. The results show that rectangular duct with staggered broken ribs and trapezoidal corrugation at 45° are the best configurations for case A and B, respectively. The 45° corrugated configuration is the best one amongst all, with values of 1.53, 1.5 and 1.33% for Nu/Nu s, f/f s and η respectively.

Safety performance index is a tool with the potential to grasp the intangible domain of aviation safety, based on quantification of meaningful aviation safety system properties. The tool itself was developed in the form of Aerospace Performance Factor and is already available for the aviation industry. However, the tool turned out to be rather unsuccessful as its potential was not fully recognised by the industry. This paper introduces performed analysis on the potential and it outlines new features, utilising time-series analysis, which can improve both the recognition of the index by the industry as well as the motivations to further research and develop methodologies to evaluate overall aviation safety performance using its quantified system properties. This paper discusses not only the features but also their embedding into the existing approach for the development of aviation safety, highlighting possible deficiencies to overcome and relating the scientific work already performed in the domain. Various types of appropriate time-series methodologies are addressed and key specifications of their use with respect to the discussed issue concerning safety performance index are stated.

Podstawowym wskaźnikiem porównawczym dla pomp ciepła w trybie grzewczym jest współczynnik wydajności grzewczej (COP) definiowany jako stosunek mocy grzewczej do pobieranej mocy elektrycznej. Z kolei w trybie chłodniczym jest współczynnik wydajności chłodniczej (EER) definiowany jako stosunek mocy chłodniczej do pobieranej mocy elektrycznej. Z uwagi, iż parametry zarówno dolnego źródła ciepła, jak i górnego źródła ciepła mogą być zmienne w przeciągu roku, wskaźniki te są często niewystarczające celem podjęcia odpowiedniej decyzji w kwestii wyboru konkretnego rozwiązania, a już kompletnie nie nadają się do porównania dwóch różnych układów technologicznych z użyciem tego samego urządzenia - pompy ciepła. Miarą ujmującą efektywność wytwarzania ciepła w trybie grzewczym i chłodniczym pomp ciepła dla całego roku jest sezonowy współczynnik efektywności pomp ciepła - Seasonal Perfomance Factor (SPF). W artykule przedstawiono i opisano dostępne metody obliczeniowe wyznaczania współczynnika SPF, wskazując plusy i minusy poszczególnych metod. Wskaźnik ten jest używany głównie w celu empirycznych porównań pracy rzeczywistych instalacji względem współczynnika efektywności COP deklarowanego przez producentów i obliczanego w kontrolowanych warunkach laboratoryjnych.
The primary comparative indicator for heat pumps in heating mode is the Coefficient of Performance (COP), defined as the ratio of the heating power to the electrical power consumed. In cooling mode, on the other hand, the Cooling Performance Ratio (EER) is defined as the ratio of the cooling capacity to the electrical power consumed. Due to the fact that the parameters of both the ground heat source and the upper heat source may change throughout the year, these indicators are often insufficient to make an appropriate decision regarding the choice of a specific solution. They are not suitable for comparing two different technological systems using the same device - a heat pump. The seasonal measure of efficiency of heat pumps - Seasonal Perfomance Factor (SPF) is the measure that measures the efficiency of heating and cooling mode of heat pumps for the whole year. The article presents and describes the available computational methods for determining the SPF coefficient, indicating the pros and cons of each method. This indicator is used mainly for empirical comparisons of the operation of real installations against the COP performance coefficient declared by the manufacturers and calculated under controlled laboratory conditions.

The study aims to develop and validate a Teacher Grit Scale and determine its predictive validity for performance. This quantitative research utilized exploratory, confirmatory, and regression analyses based on data from 1425 teachers of the Department of Education, Philippines. Exploratory factor analysis established the factorial validity of a 2-factor structure as compared to 3-factor and 4-factor models. Confirmatory factor analyses from Region IX and Region X of the Department of Education reveal strong cross-validation between the 2-factor models and the data using goodness-of-fit indices. These outcomes show that the factors describing grit are: (1) Perseverance in Teaching and (2) Passion and Purpose in Teaching. Grit relates significantly to teacher performance. However, only the first dimension of grit - perseverance in teaching, established predictive validity with performance.

Research background: The paper addresses the issue of an optimal tax system and puts emphasis on two aspects: justice and efficiency. The issue of taxation has been the subject of numerous debates at the European level for several years. A good tax system should contribute to the state treasury with sufficient revenues, should not be an administrative burden, and must be sufficiently efficient and transparent. Purpose of the article: The submitted article provides an extensive analysis of the opinions of respondents on the effectiveness of the financial administration of the Slovak Republic. The aim is to analyse the views and attitudes of the respondents on the key factors affecting the effectiveness of financial administration in terms of respondents' age, gender, occupation and place of residence using mathematical-statistical methods. Methods: In the course of extensive empirical quantitative research (N = 1.500) were used Factor Model Analysis (Factor Analysis) and Analysis of Variance (Anova) were used. The data was obtained through a questionnaire survey, which-was carried out in four districts of Slovakia and focused on a wide range of respondents divided into four age-related categories. Findings & Value added: In terms of research carried out, it is possible to conclude that there is dissatisfaction with the overall tax and customs system in the Slovak Republic. An analysis of respondents' views on the effectiveness of the tax system has shown that it is possible to identify several key factors that affect it, and they are: collection of levies and availability, competence of tax administration staff, computerisation of tax administration, tax collection efficiency, labour costs, and administrative difficulty of tax administration. in the paper, we also discuss these in more detail. The research results offer relevant and interesting implications for public authorities, policy makers and reformers as well as motives for further investigation of the tax administration issue.

This paper presents the results of bench-tests and calculations assessing the influence of temperature on the performance of a two-pipe hydraulic shock absorber. The shock absorber prepared for the tests was cooled with dry ice to a temperature corresponding to that associated with the average winter conditions in a temperate climate. The temperature range of the shock absorber during testing was ensured via equipping it with a thermocouple and monitoring it with a thermal imaging camera. During testing, the shock absorber was subjected to kinematic forces of a selected frequency with two different, fixed displacement amplitudes. The results of the tests showed a direct correlation between the decrease of component resistance at lower temperatures. The rate of change in resistance was higher at lower temperatures. It was also found that the energy dissipated in one shock cycle decreased linearly with an increasing temperature. Finally, a method for determining the ideal use temperature of the shock absorber for the assumed operating conditions was also presented.

A comprehensive evaluation of work-related perfomance factors is a prerequisite to developing integrated and long-term solutions to workplace performance improvement. This paper describes a work-factor classification system that categorizes the entire domain of workplace factors impacting performance. A questionnaire-based instrument was developed to implement this classification system in industry. Fifty jobs were evaluated in 4 different service and manufacturing companies using the proposed questionnaire-based instrument. The reliability coefficients obtained from the analyzed jobs were considered good (.589 to .862). In general, the physical work factors resulted in higher reliability coefficients (.847 to .862) than non-physical work factors (.589 to .768).

The article presents the prospects for application of wireless power supply in electronic devices. A short description of advantages of using this technology including the principle of its operation and construction of typical systems applied in devices of everyday use was provided. Two types of resonance systems used for wireless transmission of energy were presented. Also, advantages and disadvantages of using each of these systems were listed. Furthermore, the impedance and performance analyses of the wireless electric energy transmission systems were discussed. The performance characteristics were presented depending on several parameters in the three–dimensional form. The minimum quality factor of the resonance system, which allows the achievement of the high system performance at low interface between the primary and secondary coil winding was demonstrated. Two tested circuits were compared and the areas of application were determined for each of them. Difficulties related to maintenance of the circuit in resonance and to limitation of losses were determined.

The goals of this work were: first, to simulate the liquid flow distribution in a large diameter (1.2 m) packed column with an RMSR 70-5 high performance random packing (layer height up to 3 m), by a dispersion model. Second, to find and estimate the important model parameters and flow maldistribution factor, using experimental data and two different optimization approaches. A three-parameter dispersion model for prediction of radial liquid distribution and two different approaches to determine some of the model parameters from experimental data were used. In parallel, a two-parameter optimization procedure for model parameters identification was performed based on the minimum of residual variance between model and experimental liquid velocities over a column crosssection. The simulated and experimental flow maldistribution, were estimated by means of an integral estimation – a maldistribution factor. The comparison between the model and experimental liquid distribution and respective maldistribution factors at packing heights H = 1 m and H = 2.5 m for liquid load 16.6∙10-3 m3/m2∙s showed very good agreement, even for a high packing layer. In conclusion, the presented model predictions and estimations about RSRM 70-packing 5 characteristics and behaviour will complement the information about its efficiency and operation in industrial processes.

Thai automotive industry

The Thai automotive industry has been ranked one of the top ten of the Thai export products for several years. Effective supply chain management has become a key strategy for the industry to stay competitive. Performance measurement has thus become a crucial issue in automotive supply chains. The purpose of the research is to gain insight into the relevant performance attributes that affect the automotive supply chains. The critical factor indexes (CFIs) are calculated in order to determine which of the performance attributes are considered to be the strength and which ones need to be specially focused, so that precautions could be made in developing the performance measurement system. Based on the CFIs, companies in Thai automotive supply chains can support their decision making under scarce resources with valid data. A set of questionnaires with different performance attributes is used comprising of two separate parts, one intended for the first tier supplier companies and the other for the automakers. Each performance attribute in the questionnaires is assessed on how important the company sees them from their perspective, how well the tasks measured by each performance attribute have been carried out in their companies, how they see themselves compared to their competitors, and how they see each performance attribute developing compared to the situation 1 to 2 years before. The results provide a guideline to the companies in Thai automotive supply chains to measure the right performance attributes for making the right decision in a competitive environment.

This paper demonstrates how the Sharpe Ratio can be modified by altering the measure of “total risk” in the denominator of the Sharpe Ratio (i.e., the standard deviation) to include liquidity risk, a major risk for investors in hedge funds that is missing from the standard Sharpe Ratio formulation. We refer to our liquidity-risk-adjusted performance ratio as the LRAPR. The results of our analysis of 1186 hedge funds alive in 2012–2020 show that funds with higher liquidity risk exhibit higher Sharpe Ratios and higher Alphas (as estimated in a 7-factor model that does not incorporate liquidity risk). We posit that analysts and investors should not necessarily take these higher Sharpe Ratios and higher Alphas as indications of fund superiority; what appears to be superior manager skill may rather be a compensation for bearing liquidity risk. Our LRAPR is a tool that analysts or investors could use to compare funds on a more equal footing, adjusting for differential liquidity risk across funds.
