Opis:
The aim of the work presented in this paper was to determine the reactivity of chars and their selection for further research purposes concerning coal gasification processes with the utilization of process excess heat. Char reactivity can be defined as the ability of coal to react with such reactants as steam, oxygen or carbon dioxide. Reactivity determines reaction rates and therefore it is a decisive factor relating to the efficiency of combustion and gasification processes. In light of the above, reactivity may be regarded as an important parameter to be considered in the design and operation of the industrial systems of coal processing. The experimental work was conducted by means of a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) at temperature ranges of 700, 800 and 900 °C, with oxygen as a gasifying agent. The parameters of maximum reactivity Rmax as well as of 50% of the conversion reactivity R50 were calculated. The times tmax and t50 necessary for attaining the maximum reactivity Rmax and 50% conversion reactivity R50 were also determined. The correlation between the experimentally determined values of Rmax, R50, tmax and t50,additionally the physico-chemical parameters of the coals were examined by means of PCA analysis.

Automatic detection of voice pathologies enables non-invasive, low cost and objective assessments of the presence of disorders, as well as accelerating and improving the process of diagnosis and clinical treatment given to patients. In this work, a vector made up of 28 acoustic parameters is evaluated using principal component analysis (PCA), kernel principal component analysis (kPCA) and an auto-associative neural network (NLPCA) in four kinds of pathology detection (hyperfunctional dysphonia, functional dysphonia, laryngitis, vocal cord paralysis) using the a, i and u vowels, spoken at a high, low and normal pitch. The results indicate that the kPCA and NLPCA methods can be considered a step towards pathology detection of the vocal folds. The results show that such an approach provides acceptable results for this purpose, with the best efficiency levels of around 100%. The study brings the most commonly used approaches to speech signal processing together and leads to a comparison of the machine learning methods determining the health status of the patient.

Opis:
Stability detection in machining processes is an essential component for the design of efficient machining processes. Automatic methods are able to determine when instability is happening and prevent possible machine failures. In this work a variety of methods are proposed for detecting stability anomalies based on the measured forces in the radial turning process of superalloys. Two different methods are proposed to determine instabilities. Each one is tested on real data obtained in the machining of Waspalloy, Haynes 282 and Inconel 718. Experimental data, in both Conventional and High Pressure Coolant (HPC) environments, are set in four different states depending on materials grain size and Hardness (LGA, LGS, SGA and SGS). Results reveal that PCA method is useful for visualization of the process and detection of anomalies in online processes.

We present a new subspace clustering method called SuMC (Subspace Memory Clustering), which allows to efficiently divide a dataset $D \subset \bbbR^N$ into $k \in \bbbN$ pairwise disjoint clusters of possibly different dimensions. Since our approach is based on the memory compression, we do not need to explicitly specify dimensions of groups: in fact we only need to specify the mean number of scalars which is used to describe a data-point. In the case of one cluster our method reduces to a classical Karhunen-Loeve (PCA) transform. We test our method on some typical data from UCI repository and on data coming from real-life experiments.

Opis:
Tapping is an extensively employed manufacturing process by which a multi-teeth tool, known as a tap, cuts a mating thread when driven into a hole. When taps are new or slightly worn, the process is under control and the geometry of the resulting threads on the workpiece is correct. But as the tap wear increases, the thread geometry deviates progressively from the correct one and eventually the screw threads become unacceptable. The aim of this paper is to outline the development of a statistical process control strategy for decision making based on data coming from the current signal of the tap spindle for assessing thread quality. It could operate on line, and indicates when the tap wear is so critical that, if the process were continued, it would result in unacceptable screw threads. The system would be very cost-effective since the tapping process could be run without any operator intervention.

The paper presents a modification of nonlinear state-space projections (NSSP) method. The proposed approach deals with the sub-space estimation problem. In the original NSSP method, the principal component analysis (PCA) is used for the subspace determination. The classical PCA uses L2-norm. It is well known that the L2-norm is sensitive to outliers. Thus, in this paper the L1-norm PCA is proposed a subspace determination. In numerical experiments an analytic signal and real ECG signals are processed with the proposed method. The signals are contaminated with Gaussian distributed noise with different signal to noise ratio (SNR). Obtained results confirm the usefulness of the proposed modification.

This paper describes application of the principal component analysis in relation to the thermal imaging contrast sequences, recorded with pulse excitation for three different objects. The aim of the study was to demonstrate that thermographic sequences contain an excessive number of data-distorting information about the characteristics of an object and that it is possible to reduce them. It has been shown that PCA can improve SNR, simplifies separation of areas with distinct features and allows determining their count, which is important, inter alia, with infrared image segmentation. The study shows examples of the results for a sequence of infrared registered for thin-layer-chromatography plate (SiO2 on glass) with separated analytes, the high power Si-eutectic-Mo thyristor structure with defects in eutectic, and the Al disk with cavities of different diameter and depth.

Spinturnix dasycnemi (Kolenati, 1856), an ectoparasite considered to be specific to rare and local bat species Myotis dasycneme (Boie, 1825), is reported for the first time in the fauna of Poland. Specimens were collected from M. dasycneme at two localities in the north and central parts of the country. In Europe, only two males of that poorly known mite species have been recorded recently from the Netherlands and Slovakia, while spinturnicids from pond bats were identified as S. andegavina and/or S. myoti in most of previous studies. The exact geographic distribution of S. dasycnemi is unknown, mainly due to the possibility of its common confusion with other mite species, but it may occur in all countries hosting populations of M. dasycneme. We show that specimens of both sexes of S. dasycnemi are morphometrically clearly separable from those of S. myoti and S. andegavina, even based on a combination of idiosoma length and dorsal shield length.

Opis:
This study aimed to characterize twelve vinegar samples produced by the traditional method with the use of whole fruits and without any preservatives in terms of their physicochemical properties, total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), phenolic compound profiles, antioxidant activity (DPPH• scavenging activity, FRAP, CUPRAC), and volatile compositions, as well as their abilities to delay oxidation in mayonnaise. Types of raw material significantly affected all of the above parameters (p<0.05). Gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, and caffeic acid were detected as the major phenolic acids in all vinegar samples. Among, flavonoids, rutin, and kaempferol were also identified. The major volatiles belonged to acetic acid esters and alcohol groups, and isoamyl acetate was determined in all vinegar samples at changing ratios. The high positive correlation coefficient (r>0.70) was determined between DPPH• scavenging activity of vinegars and induction period of accelerating oxidation based on the OXITEST of mayonnaises produced with these vinegars. Vinegar types significantly affected the oxidative stability of mayonnaise (p<0.05). Furthermore, it was demonstrated that vinegar samples could be clearly discriminated by principal component and cluster analyses. This study suggests that fruit type should be considered as a crucial factor in the production of vinegars affecting not only sensory properties but also their physicochemical and bioactive properties.

Prioritisation of sub-watersheds (SWs) is becoming increasingly important in the conservation of natural resources, particularly in watershed planning. In this study, sub-watershed for the Neyyar basin was prioritised using three methods: morphometric analysis, principal component analysis (PCA) and hypsometric analysis. Morphometric analysis and hypsometric analysis were carried out using remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS) techniques, while PCA was performed for dimensionality reduction of morphometric parameters. The watershed was divided into 11 sub-watersheds (SW1–SW11), and each sub-watershed was given priority. To rank and prioritise SWs, 15 morphometric parameters were selected from the quantitative measures of morphometric analysis, including linear, relief, and areal. PCA was used to rank and prioritise SWs based on three highly correlated morphometric parameters. The hypsometric integral (HI) values were determined using the elevation relief ratio approach, and HI values were utilised to prioritise SWs. For both methods, such as morphometric analysis and PCA, a higher priority has been given to SW1. Using hypsometric analysis, higher priorities have been assigned to SW1, SW7, SW8, SW9, SW10 and SW11. The most common SWs that belong to the same priority of SWs and have a high correlation between them among the three methods are SW1, SW2, and SW5.The results of this analysis indicate that SW1 is a common high priority area with a significant risk of soil erosion, runoff and peak discharge. Therefore, decision-makers may utilise the high-priority sub-watershed to guide planning and development, measure conservation efforts and manage the land to prevent.

Three applied sampling techniques have been analyzed: synchronization of the beginning of the data acquisition, for the successive sequences xi, immediately after a positive zero-level crossing of the analyzed waveform; separation of the NM-element sequence x to M of N-element sequences xi collected sequentially in subsequent rows of the matrix X; and application of sampling with the fractional delay of d=Ts/2, and X matrix construction from alternating strings: x2i-1 - sampled with a delay of d, and x2i - sampled with a zero delay from the moment of the zero crossing by analyzed waveform.
