Opis:
The article is focused on MUBIG, an experimental museum in a peripheral neigbourhood of Milan. The museum, a fluid, scattered, dynamic discourse – a process, more than a place – is born out of an urban regeneration project. The reflection attempts to articulate a number of key questions: how are the individual histories embodied by the museum? What points of fragility are envisaged in this regard and how are they addressed, in order to prevent tokenism and the rhetoric of participation perse? What is the role of the visual dimention and of contemporary art? Throughout the article, I argue that neighbourhood museums might be one of the many actors needed on the scene of decolonisation, by this term meaning a process of space-making around the commons based on representation and radical listening. The experience is analyses here through a double lens: while being a member of the collective who co-designed it, I also look at it from my academic position. This allows me to describe the process keeping different “points of distance,” therefore layering methodologies and viewpoints.

Opis:
Arnold Berleant rejects the traditional aesthetics of Kantian detached contemplation and selfl essness. Instead of separation of art from everyday life, he introduces the concept of aesthetic fi eld. It assumes a coexistence of several factors: appreciative, focused, creative, and performative. Berleant resign from frag„ mentation of the world of art into spectator, artist, and artwork, and proposes to merge it all together in the aesthetic experience based on active participation and personal involvement. This article presents some selected issues of Berleant’s aesthetics. His theses are confronted with Richard Shusterman’s somaesthetics (pragmatism) and phenomenological attitude of Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Berleant’s ideas are illustrated with some examples of contemporary art. I try to explain the issue of participation in a work of art, the role of the body in aesthetic experience and the crucial concept of aesthetic embodiment. I also seek to explore some of the relationships between art and games.

Opis:
The motif of the battle of the giants (γιγαντομαχία) in the Sophist (246a  et seq.) is not only a carefully constructed literary measure that enlivens and dramatizes the discussion, or an attempt to supplement or strengthen the argument by a reference to an old myth. On the contrary, the transition from mythos to logos is not the abandonment of the former, but rather its explanation and proper exposition. It seems, therefore, that Plato was deliberate in his mention of the mythical image and his remark that all philosophical debates are nothing more than the battle of the giants concerning being (γιγαντομαχία περὶ τῆς οὐσίας). So what are the actual reasons of the batlle and how do we understand the casus belli – why is it about being (περὶ τῆς οὐσίας). Why is this, and not something else, the subject of this „gigantic” debate? Plato’s proposed resolution of the debate – which is to provide the greatest, most importatnt of sciences and knowlege (ἐπιστήμη μεγίστη) concerning the idea of being (τοῦ ὄντος ἰδέα) and to determine its signs-characters – is important not for historical and substantive reasons. Therefore, can one, taking into account the method to settle the debate and its specific result, and mirroring the question posed in the title – call Plato’s analysis a hidden phenomenology? Furthermore, can the principle of participation (τὸ μετέχειν) be understood as a metaphysical principle, whose explication requires phenomenological tools?

This article discusses the educational aspect of people with hearing impairments in the perspective of the sought alternative teaching methods of this group of students. The authors have analyzed the assumptions of the main models of education of students with hearing impairments implemented in the Polish education system, its most important issues, problem areas and potential solutions. The authors have also begun to reflect on the educational potentials that in the education of people with hearing impairment can be brought by the museum education. In the context of the proposed solutions, they present an interdisciplinary educational project inspired by iconology, the field of art history which supports a universal non-verbal communication and a modern model of the participatory museum.

The purpose of the paper is to analyze the issue of the relations between being consumers and being citizens in the consumer society. Many researchers point to deepening crisis of mature democracy and a decrease in social and civil participation, which entails most developed and developing countries, including Poland. The phenomenon present in a context of consumer society and its culture are often indicated among causes of this state. Based on the analysis of social changes in modern world, Zygmunt Bauman arrives at a conclusion that as an individualized entity, the consumer is an enemy of the citizen. The citizen and the consumer have different interests, hierarchies of values and ways of perceiving the world. The Zygmunt Bauman’s thesis is being analyzed in the paper on the basic of author’s research results. In the first part of the study, the typical characteristics of “model” members of a consumer society in the liquid modernity era are discussed (with reference to Bauman’s and other authors’ views). The way a consumer society affects the mentality of its members (the consumers) and their relations with groups, or larger communities (especially civil participation) is addressed. The second part is devoted to the issue of relations between being consumers and being citizens and is based on the research results of author’s research results. The relationships between consumer orientations of AMU students and chosen elements of their civic and social participation are discussed. Finally, the study is concluded with an attempt at explaining the results of research with reference to Bauman’s concept.

The orientation like this requires constant analysis and taking into account the needs and expectations of the modern parent. „Our ideal school” is to show the parents' expectations hidden under the word „perfect”, and attempt to answer the question about the possibility of participation of parents in the school or the school of education in the Polish reality, could be „our schoo” or a school parents.

Representative surveys, carried out by the Central Statistical Office reveal how low is in Poland the scale of participation in culture: expenses connected with culture represent about 3% of household expenditure, and 1/3 of this amount is spent on television. Almost half of householders didn’t buy a book in year, 60% of Poles didn’t go to the cinema and 90% didn’t go to the theatre. In the same time, participation in culture is shown as a condition for social and economic development. The gap between absence of participation in culture and promoting culture is depicted in more detail in terms of statistics illustrating the scale of absence and in diagnosis of barriers. But this analysis leads to next questions – on the one hand about the apparent shallowness of these barriers, on the other – about the need for different way of task posed questions, new methods which break with the traditional questions about the museum visit or buying newspapers. As the culture changes, we should change tools of researching culture. Perhaps the picture will continue to indicate the dominance of absence, but maybe will penetrate beyond the enigmatic „I did not feel the need” to participate.

The aim of the article is to consider the problem of metaphysical realism that is defined as the thesis that there are objects that are independent of human consciousness. The problem was not solved by I. Kant, since he assumed, without a justification, that there are objects (“things in themselves”) that are the causes of human mental states. The author interprets the problem of metaphysical realism in the context of the so-called principle of immanence (“principle of consciousness”), according to which every entity (object) may be treated exclusively as a correlate of consciousness. The principle of immanence is the cause why even causal relations have to be treated as only certain data for the consciousness, and hence they may not be referred to by asserting that there is a factor that is the cause of states of human consciousness. Contemporary anti-realism, as the so-called conceptual realism, does not consider the problem of metaphysical realism in the context of the principle of immanence, and hence it is not a part of the traditional dispute on the existence of the (external) world. The author sees the solution to the problem of metaphysical realism in combining two arguments: in the reference to the ontological proof, which – via God’s veracity – is to “lead outside” the immanence of consciousness, and in the reference to the concept of participation in such a way that the human mind participates in God and it is Him that is the real entity (ens realissimum) that is referred to by the dispute about the existence of the world and the problem of metaphysical realism.

Conservation planning becomes signifi cant as globalisation and rapid urbanisation challenge the preservation of historical urban sites. As an integral part of communities’ place identities, the destruction of built heritage for development challenges local identities. Protecting built environment heritages can preserve local identity. Also, a paradigm shift in conservation planning supports including local perspectives and knowledge systems for sustainable urban conservation planning and democratic participation processes. Community engagement in urban conservation planning offers town planners insight into emotional values that communities attach to built heritages for incorporation in physical planning proposals. Emotional attachments are traditionally not considered as valid constructs in public participation. However, place attachments can propel communities to constructively participate in development processes if such developments strengthen their place identity, or prompt obstruction if communities perceive developments as threats to place identity. This research aims to explore communities’ place attachment through community engagement to inform urban conservation planning proposals. An action research approach was followed to explore place attachments associated with built heritage resources in two South African communities, Khuma and Stilfontein. The research indicates that specifi cally socio-economic, natural, and aesthetic place attachments assisted the communities to envision urban conservation proposals for future built environments for Khuma and Stilfontein that will be cherished. These proposals were unique for each community due to diff erent underlying place attachments. The implication of this research is that urban conservation should acknowledge communities’ place attachments, as they can optimise the fit between communitiesand urban conservation eff orts.

Opis zjawiska wychowanie w nurcie konstrukcjonizmu społecznego bada relacje pomiędzy dwiema osobami z perspektywy ponadindywidualnej. Stanowi to najpoważniejszą zaletę proponowanego podejścia
The article contains a proposal for a theoretical model of the phenomenon of ‘upbringing’ embedded in the paradigm of social constructivism. The concepts of this model refer to the common world of adult’s and child’s lives. The model consists of both the content of culture, in which this world is immersed, and the reality of the microsystem (family, dyad) created by participation and dialogue. In the educational dialogue, an inexperienced partner is introduced into the system of meanings used by an adult. Educational relationship is not symmetrical. Instead, it is complementary because of a stable, emotionally saturated relationship between a child and a person acting as an educator (most often a parent). Complementarity is expressed in different roles due to the distribution of responsibility, which determines different responsibilities and rights of each person. Control is implemented through a mechanism of self-realizing expectations that adults have towards their children. The description of the phenomenon of upbringing in the current of social constructivism examines relationships between two persons from the above-individualistic perspective. This is the most significant advantage of the proposed approach.

Gregory of Nyssa presents the conception of human deification in an extraordinarily clear and concious way, using special verbs and characteristic expressions to emphasize the dynamism of the change of humanity into more divine. The Cappadocian Father, in order to maintain the apophatic nature of his doctrine, more and more often rejects the term of deification and describes it in his writings as participation of man in the divine nature, therefore the nominal term of deification never occurs in his literary works. However, the analysys of Gregory of Nyssa’s descriptions in which he refers to the terminology of deification has revealed a precisely chrystological and collective dimension of this process, which is possible to be taken up by man only owing to the energetic union connecting God and the world.

The main purpose of the present study is to understand ‘empowerment’ as observed in theory and in actual practice in the society where women are still regarded as second-class citizens inspite of achieving success in their chosen fields. Her freedom in choice of decision-making within the family and civil society plays an important part in influencing her participation in politics and her voting behaviour. By political activism of the respondent we primarily mean her cognitive orientation (i.e. her knowledge about political parties, symbols, their stay in power and their judgements about political system), evaluative orientation on how political system works including her voting behaviour and partisan preference. Survey was carried by the researcher on 1000 women working in both the organised and unorganised sectors of the economy mainly among street vendors and domestic workers and bank employees and teachers in Kolkata. Results: Women working in both the sectors play dual role looking after their children, elders in the family, husbands and also contribute to the  expenditure but lack effective power in decision-making. They consult their husbands, elder members of the family or the community before casting their vote and are notguided by individual preference or choice.
