Opis:
In this paper, new non-quadratic stability conditions are derived based on the parallel distributed compensation scheme to stabilize Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems. We use a non-quadratic Lyapunov function as a fuzzy mixture of multiple quadratic Lyapunov functions. The quadratic Lyapunov functions share the same membership functions with the T-S fuzzy model. The stability conditions we propose are less conservative and stabilize also fuzzy systems which do not admit a quadratic stabilization. The proposed approach is based on two assumptions. The first one relates to a proportional relation between multiple Lyapunov functions and the second one considers an upper bound to the time derivative of the premise membership functions. To illustrate the advantages of our proposal, four examples are given.

Unrelated Parallel Machines Scheduling Problem (U-PMSP) is a category of discrete optimization problems in which various manufacturing jobs are assigned to identical parallel machines at particular times. In this paper, a specific production scheduling task the U-PMSP with Machine and Job Dependent Setup Times, Availability Constraint, Time Windows and Maintenance Times is introduced. Machines with different capacity limits and maintenance times are available to perform the tasks. After that our problem, the U-PMSP with Machine and Job Dependent Setup Times, Availability Constraints, Time Windows and Maintenance Times is detailed. After that, the applied optimization algorithm and their operators are introduced. The proposed algorithm is the genetic algorithm (GA), and proposed operators are the order crossover, partially matched crossover, cycle crossover and the 2-opt as a mutation operator. Then we prove the efficiency of our algorithm with test results. We also prove the efficiency of the algorithm on our own data set and benchmark data set. The authors conclude that this GA is effective for solving high complexity parallel machine problems.

In this paper we address an extension of a very efficient genetic algorithm (GA) known as Hy3, a physical parallelization of the gradual distributed real-coded GA (GD-RCGA). This search model relies on a set of eight subpopulations residing in a cube topology having two faces for promoting exploration and exploitation. The resulting technique has been shown to yield very accurate results in continuous optimization by using crossover operators tuned to explore and exploit the solutions inside each subpopulation. We introduce here a further extension of Hy3, called Hy4, that uses 16 islands arranged in a hypercube of four dimensions. Thus, two new faces with different exploration/exploitation search capabilities are added to the search performed by Hy3. We analyze the importance of running a synchronous versus an asynchronous version of the models considered. The results indicate that the proposed Hy4 model overcomes the Hy3 performance because of its improved balance between exploration and exploitation that enhances the search. Finally, we also show that the async Hy4 model scales better than the sync one.

Opis:
The big data concept has elicited studies on how to accurately and efficiently extract valuable information from such huge dataset. The major problem during big data mining is data dimensionality due to a large number of dimensions in such datasets. This major consequence of high data dimensionality is that it affects the accuracy of machine learning (ML) classifiers; it also results in time wastage due to the presence of several redundant features in the dataset. This problem can be possibly solved using a fast feature reduction method. Hence, this study presents a fast HP-PL which is a new hybrid parallel feature reduction framework that utilizes spark to facilitate feature reduction on shared/distributed-memory clusters. The evaluation of the proposed HP-PL on KDD99 dataset showed the algorithm to be significantly faster than the conventional feature reduction techniques. The proposed technique required >1 minute to select 4 dataset features from over 79 features and 3,000,000 samples on a 3-node cluster (total of 21 cores). For the comparative algorithm, more than 2 hours was required to achieve the same feat. In the proposed system, Hadoop’s distributed file system (HDFS) was used to achieve distributed storage while Apache Spark was used as the computing engine. The model development was based on a parallel model with full consideration of the high performance and throughput of distributed computing. Conclusively, the proposed HP-PL method can achieve good accuracy with less memory and time compared to the conventional methods of feature reduction. This tool can be publicly accessed at https://github.com/ahmed/Fast-HP-PL.

Today’s ETL tools provide capabilities to develop custom code as user-defined functions (UDFs) to extend the expressiveness of the standard ETL operators. However, while this allows us to easily add new functionalities, it also comes with the risk that the custom code is not intended to be optimized, e.g., by parallelism, and for this reason, it performs poorly for data-intensive ETL workflows. In this paper we present a novel framework, which allows the ETL developer to choose a design pattern in order to write parallelizable code and generates a configuration for the UDFs to be executed in a distributed environment. This enables ETL developers with minimum expertise in distributed and parallel computing to develop UDFs without taking care of parallelization configurations and complexities. We perform experiments on large-scale datasets based on TPC-DS and BigBench. The results show that our approach significantly reduces the effort of ETL developers and at the same time generates efficient parallel configurations to support complex and data-intensive ETL tasks.

Amyloid β (Aβ) is the subject of numerous studies due to its link to the devastating Alzheimer’s disease and it exists in a parallel structure in fibril aggregate. The Iowa mutant (D 23 N) Aβ posses a unique antiparallel fibril aggregate structure and can also form parallel structure. This structural difference, coupled with the fact that occurrence of the Iowa mutant is correlated with early onset Alzheimer’s, suggests to use these peptides as candidates for computational studies of the structural determinants of the toxicity of Alzheimer’s disease. In order to compare the two observed Aβ structural motifs, we designed a computational study to probe the factors that affect the stability of parallel and antiparallel aggregates. Since the structural changes may occur on a timescale beyond that sampled in traditional molecular dynamics (MD), we employed a techniques of scaling the mass to reduce the solution ’s viscosity and compared the results to regular molecular dynamics. The knowledge gained from this study could provide insight into the mechanism of selection for antiparallel and parallel two fold structures.

Introduction. Fear appeals are a common tactic used in work safety interventions to motivate farmers to adopt safer behaviours. They begin by introducing a threat, followed by information on how to remove the threat. However, fear appeals tend to be ineffective when developed without a firm grasp of the cognitive processes underlying behavioural change. Although previous research on farm safety interventions have investigated fear appeals, they have focused on very narrow threats and behaviours, such as tractor or cow safety, while others have studied the threats but not the cognitive processing. Consequently, not enough is known about the range of threats that evoke fear, how farmers behave when under threat, or their general cognitive beliefs regarding self-efficacy, response cost and response efficacy. In In this study, 23 Swedish Farmers were interviewed and participated in a work safety intervention to identify the range of threats farmers perceive, and actions taken to remove those threats. Materials and method. The extended parallel processing model was used to gain insights into how farmers cognitively processed threats and their subsequent behaviour. Interestingly, it was found that farmers were more fearful of work safety threats related to family members and employees—yet the actions they took to reduce threats were mostly personal in nature. To help explain this finding, a typology of threat complexity was developed by the authors. Results. It was found that simple, common, and direct threats to safety tended to lead to adaptive, threat-reducing behaviours, whereas complex, general, or indirect threats promoted more maladaptive behaviours that reduced fear, but not the threats.

In the present work, a solution to the problem of viscous flow in a rectangular region with two moving parallel walls is obtained by using a hybrid finite volume scheme. The discretized governing equations are solved iteratively, and thereby the flow variables are computed numerically. The results for velocity and pressure in horizontal and vertical directions through the centre of a rectangular region are elucidated. The nature of velocity profiles and pressure for different Reynolds numbers in the horizontal and vertical directions through the geometric centre was analyzed with the help of pictorial representations. The present results are compared with the available benchmark results and we have found that they are not in disagreement.

In this report, ankle rehabilitation routines currently approved by physicians are implemented via novel control algorithms on a recently appeared robotic device known as the motoBOTTE. The physician specifications for gait cycles are translated into robotic trajectories whose tracking is performed twofold depending on the availability of a model: (1) if obtained via the Euler-Lagrange approach along with identification of unknown plant parameters, a new computed-torque control law is proposed; it takes into account the parallel-robot characteristics; (2) if not available, a variation of the active disturbance rejection control technique whose parameters need to be tuned, is employed. A detailed discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of the model-based and model-free results, from the continuous-time simulation to the discrete-time implementation, is included.

Warner’s randomized response (RR) model is used to collect sensitive information for a broad range of surveys, but it possesses several limitations such as lack of reproducibility, higher costs and it is not feasible for mail questionnaires. To overcome such difficulties, nonrandomized response (NRR) surveys have been proposed. The proposed NRR surveys are limited to simple random sampling with replacement (SRSWR) design. In this paper, NRR procedures are extended to complex survey designs in a unified setup, which is applicable to any sampling design and wider classes of estimators. Existing results for NRR can be derived from the proposed method as special cases.

In this paper the possibility of increasing parallel inputs and outputs in microprocessor systems with a programmable peripheral interface (PPI) is presented. The requirements and restrictions associated with expanding parallel ports for microprocessors with internal bus and microprocessors with external access memory are described. The basic system with a central processor unit and parallel transmission device(s) is described (Fig. 1) and parallel interface modes for 82C55A PPI are shown (Figs. 2, 3). An example of multi-channel communication between a microcontroller and external units, with hardware CPLD controller and PPI devices, is given. The controller is responsible for input/output address decoding and interrupts receiving (Fig. 4). The external address/interrupt controller minimizes the time required by the microcomputer for interruption of the current program, servicing of the peripheral units, and resumption of the interrupted program. The basic requirements for programmable devices working as controllers in input/output parallel integrated subsystems are shown. The controller was implemented in one of XC9500XL family devices (Tab. 1). For each device from this family the I/Os are fully 5V (CMOS, TTL) tolerant even though the core power supply is 3.3 volts. In mixed (5V/3.3V/2.5V) systems a controller can work with low power supply microprocessors (Fig. 5). Use of this one programmable device gives us a chance for creating a flexible controller (Fig. 6) which can work with different kinds of 8-bit central units.

The effect of variation of physical variables on a steady flow through a porous medium with heat transfer between parallel plates is examined. The viscosity and the thermal conductivity are assumed to be temperature dependent. A constant pressure gradient is applied in the axial direction and the two plates are kept at two constant but different temperatures, while the viscous dissipation is considered in the energy equation. A numerical solution for the governing non-linear coupled equations of motion and the energy equation is determined. The effect of porosity of the medium, the variable viscosity, and the variable thermal conductivity on both the velocity and temperature distributions is reported.
