Opis:
The concept of creative recreation is currently gaining a new meaning. The author proposes expanding the meaning of recreation to include creative recreation by drawing on insights from psycho-pedagogical theories of creativity. Nowadays creative recreation is also being explored more broadly in the context of urban space, as exemplified by workshops during which participants try to create urban space. The phenomenon of creative recreation in urban space is therefore an interesting subject for research, especially with a view to identifying factors that determine where creative activity is organised. The main research question addressed in this article is who and why organises outdoor creative recreation in urban recreational space? The study focuses on Łódź, a UNESCO Creative City of Film, which is analysed as an example of a city promoting itself as a creative urban centre. The author analyses results of interviews with experts and organisers of outdoor creative recreation, which show the latter ones as open-minded, engaged, and passionate. Other important characteristics revealed by the interviewees include cooperation with others, attempts to look for new ways of organising leisure time and new forms of mutual promotion. The organisers of outdoor creative recreation also expressed their strong attachment their city.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to describe the phenomenon and distribution of outdoor creative recreation in the recreational space of Łódź. The concept of creative recreation has been redefined, combining the geography of tourism and recreational geography with psycho-pedagogical theories about creativity. Using the operational definition an investigation was conducted, narrowed down to an analysis of events of outdoor creative recreation in Łódź in 2019. On its basis, its spatial distribution was analyzed. Thanks to the analysis, it was shown most commonly the nature of events was related to cultural and entertainment activities, taking place during the summer season, and were often cyclical and free of charge. Moreover, as part of the distribution analysis, it was indicated that the analyzed events were organized predominantly in green and post-industrial areas and the city center dominated. Other important locational factors of these events were also indicated. Its characteristics and the distribution of outdoor creative recreation are in line with research on the quality of urban recreational space which will translate into a better quality of life for residents. The example of Łódź, a city entered into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, allows for a discussion on the importance of the organization of urban recreational space for the development of modern cities.

Opis:
The article addresses the question of adapting public spaces, including parks and gardens, to the needs of people with disabilities for the purpose of outdoor recreation. According to the principles of universal design, public spaces should enable social inclusion, which implies respect for current needs of diverse populations. The study described in the article focuses on the needs of people with vision impairment regarding outdoor recreation and adjustments that need to be made in the infrastructure of parks and gardens. The aim of the study was to answer three key questions: (1) How can outdoor experiences be made accessible to people with visual impairments? (2) How can outdoor experiences be encouraged, rethought and redesigned for people with visual impairments? (3) What barriers stop people with visual disabilities from participating in outdoor leisure in sensory gardens? These questions are answered using insights from desk research, data from an inventory of selected sensory gardens and interviews with blind and partially sighted respondents. The study, conducted between June and August 201, covered 15 gardens located in various parts in Poland: in cities, rural areas and areas of natural value. The interviews, involving 32 respondents, were held directly in the gardens in cooperation with the Polish Association for the Blind. The results were used to formulate recommendations for good practice in the field of universal garden design, which can provide sensory experiences for everyone, including people with visual impairments. The observed development of sensory gardens seems to reflects a great interest in this type of outdoor sites, which are conducive to recreation, education, integration, and social inclusion. Solutions applied in sensory gardens should provide inspiration for creating universal gardens, accessible to everyone.

Opis:
The study tested the following hypotheses: the mortality of invertebrate fauna is higher (1) on wide trails than on narrow ones, (2) on sections near the entrance to the forest than on the parts located within the forest, and (3) during the weekend than during the workdays. To assess the mortality of epigeic fauna trampled on hiking trails, the most frequented trails in the Chojnów Forest District (central Poland) were selected. On each trail, 100 m long segments were designated near the boundary with open terrain (‘entrance' sections) and inside the forest, 500 m from the edge. Paths wide less than 1.5 m were considered as narrow, while those wider than 3 m as wide ones. Data was collected in 2016 and 2017 (8 and 7 inspections, respectively). A total of 752 trampled animals belonging to 25 species or taxa were found. GLM analysis did not reveal significant differences between the number specimens or species trampled on trails with different location or width. However there were more dead individuals and species on the entrance segments. Also, more dead specimens and species were found on wider paths, but the difference was not significant (fig. 1, tab.). The number of trampled invertebrates increased significantly during the weekend (fig. 2, tab.). NMDS clearly ordered the data from fauna collected at the entrance trails to those collected within the forest (fig. 3). 74.9% of the variation in species data was explained by the first PCA axis and 14.0% by the second one. The first axis was associated with the trail location (fig. 4). Points representing invertebrate fauna found on narrow paths (especially inside the forest stand) are located closer together than points representing fauna on wide trails (especially those bordering on open areas). The PCA correlated the most significant trampling of the dor beetle (A. stercorosus) with narrow trails within the stand and trampling of the spring dor beetle (T. vernalis) with wide paths near the entrance. The impact of hiking on the forest and all of its fauna is still little known. In order to effectively counteract its negative effects and protect organisms present on trails, research should be continued.

The main purpose of this study was to examine how the relatively new initiative supporting active leisure of people, i.e., Family Recreation Zones, is perceived by its users. Data were collected from 215 persons aged 13 to 96 (M=44.19, SD 18.08). For nearly nine in ten persons Zones are the only space where they spend their leisure time actively. The main attractors are free access and the open air. Interestingly, for many respondents the proximity of playgrounds was not a benefit but rather a barrier to visiting Zones. Other barriers were the season of the year, a modest range of exercise devices, their damage, poor illumination, a perceived lack of safety and a lack of professional support during exercising.

Opis:
In the last two decades extreme sports have been gaining popularity. Easy access to equipment and technological development affects a larger number of people practising such disciplines as rock climbing or skydiving. These disciplines are strongly associated with experiencing both positive and negative emotions. Research conducted in different sports disciplines clearly shows that emotions such as anxiety have a negative effect on the sport result. Unfortunately, we very often ignore the importance of emotions in recreational activities, which may be an omission in relation to extreme sports. The aim of this study was to find the relationship between the level of state anxiety and effectiveness of rock climbing, and the use of the phenomenon in educating outdoor trainers. The experiment was conducted in natural environment. The measurement of anxiety level was conducted using State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The results show the negative impact of anxiety on the effectiveness of rock climbing. Research analysis indicates a high possibility of using the test results in the process of educating outdoor trainers.

Opis:
Our study aimed to present amateur sports models during the CO VID-19 restrictions on outdoor activities. We used mixed research methods: the questionnaire research data and information available through wearable devices. We investigate physical activity phenomena based on questionnaire results and existing data from a popular social networking site. Firstly, we asked respondents about their training types, rhythm, and preferences in using new technologies (wearables devices and social networks to upload and share results) in individual physical activity practices. Secondly, we also used a collection of over 11 thousand photos of 3138 users, with metadata downloaded from Instagram to compare declarations and content. The obtained data were processed using machine learning and Python software. Analyzing the results, we showed a change in the intensity of practicing three selected types of activity. We also analyzed the data set (photos, tags, and metadata) from a social network. The conclusions show the potential of triangulation of methods and data to describe the amateur physical activity and the change of these practices during CO VID-19 limitations in indoor and outdoor sports.

In recent years, the popularity of outdoor gyms has been growing. They are built in urban parks, in neighbourhoods (housing estates), at school sports grounds. Recently more and more outdoor gyms are increasingly being built also in non-urban recreation areas (such as coastal beaches, lake promenades, forest parks). The aim of this research was to analyse how outdoor gyms in Warsaw and the selected surrounding localities are used.

The article presents a typology of activities in adventure education in Poland based on two books written as a result of the conference “Adventure education in nature” (2013, 2014). Based on the criteria created by comparing adventure education activities to outdoor training, three different types of these activities are differentiated and their methodology is discussed: long-term life changing activities based on the precise model of a person (3 types of scouting – Baden Powell’s, Selton and Polish scouts (harcerstwo); Hahn’s and Rydzyna schools approaches; survival), short– term educational activities, and recreation in goal adventure in nature activities. The differences concerning the role of the instructor, the types of methods used and the possible scopes of evaluation are discussed for each type of activity. A comparison of the groups of activities and outdoor training discussed is presented in the form of a table.
