In the paper we apply the modified powers of algebraic quasinuclei to construction of determinant systems for quasinuclear perturbations of Fredholm operators. Given two pairs (Ξ, X), (Ω, Y) of conjugate linear spaces, an algebraic quasinucleus F ∈ an (Ω → Ξ, X → Y) and a determinant system for the Fredholm operator S ∈op(Ω →Ξ, X → Y), we obtain algebraic formulas for terms of a determinant system for S + TF.

We give several characterizations of the improjective operators, introduced by Tarafdar, and we characterize the inessential operators among the improjective operators. It is an interesting problem whether both classes of operators coincide in general. A positive answer would provide, for example, an intrinsic characterization of the inessential operators. We give several equivalent formulations of this problem and we show that the inessential operators acting between certain pairs of Banach spaces coincide with the improjective operators.

We show that, under some additional assumptions, all projection operators onto latticially closed subsets of the Orlicz-Musielak space generated by $\Phi$ are isotonic if and only if $\Phi$ is convex with respect to its second variable. A dual result of this type is also proven for antiprojections. This gives the positive answer to the problem presented in Opuscula Mathematica in 2012.

A class of operators is introduced (μ -Hankel operators, μ is a complex parameter), which generalizes the class of Hankel operators. Criteria for boundedness, compactness, nuclearity, and finite dimensionality are obtained for operators of this class, and for the case |μ| = 1 their description in the Hardy space is given. Integral representations of $\text{}^{-}$Hankel operators on the unit disk and on the Semi-Axis are also considered.

We give some properties of Schramm functions; among others, we prove that the family of all continuous piecewise linear functions defined on a real interval I is contained in the space ΦBV (I) of functions of bounded variation in the sense of Schramm. Moreover, we show that the generating function of the corresponding Nemytskij composition operator acting between Banach spaces CΦBV (I) of continuous functions of bounded Schramm variation has to be continuous and additionally we show that a space CΦBV (I) has the Matkowski property.

Opis:
Wójcicki introduced in the late 1970s the concept of a referential semantics for propositional logics. Referential semantics incorporate features of the Kripke possible world semantics for modal logics into the realm of algebraic and matrix semantics of arbitrary sentential logics. A well-known theorem of Wójcicki asserts that a logic has a referential semantics if and only if it is selfextensional. Referential semantics was subsequently studied in detail by Malinowski and the concept of selfextensionality has played, more recently, an important role in the field of abstract algebraic logic in connection with the operator approach to algebraizability. We introduce and review some of the basic definitions and results pertaining to the referential semantics of π-institutions, abstracting corresponding results from the realm of propositional logics.

Let $A$ and $\tilde{A}$ be bounded operators in a Hilbert space. We consider the following problem: let the spectrum of $A$ lie in some strip. In what strip the spectrum of $\tilde{A}$ lies if $A$ and $\tilde{A}$ are “close”? Applications of the obtained results to integral operators and matrices are also discussed. In addition, we apply our perturbation results to approximate the spectral strip of a Hilbert-Schmidt operator by the spectral strips of finite matrices.

Harper's operator is defined on $\ell^2({\sym Z})$ by $$ H_\theta \xi(n) = \xi(n+1) + \xi(n-1) + 2\cos n\theta\, \xi(n), $$ where $\theta\! \in \![0,\pi]$. We show that the norm of $\|H_\theta\|$ is less than or equal to $2\sqrt{2}$ for $\pi/2 \le\theta\le \pi$. This solves a conjecture stated in [1]. A general formula for estimating the norm of self-adjoint tridiagonal infinite matrices is also derived.

Opis:
A new very high-order finite volume method to solve problems with harmonic and biharmonic operators for one-dimensional geometries is proposed. The main ingredient is polynomial reconstruction based on local interpolations of mean values providing accurate approximations of the solution up to the sixth-order accuracy. First developed with the harmonic operator, an extension for the biharmonic operator is obtained, which allows designing a very high-order finite volume scheme where the solution is obtained by solving a matrix-free problem. An application in elasticity coupling the two operators is presented. We consider a beam subject to a combination of tensile and bending loads, where the main goal is the stress critical point determination for an intramedullary nail.

We consider a quasilinear vector differential equation which involves the p-Laplacian and a maximal monotone map. The boundary conditions are nonlinear and are determined by a generally multivalued, maximal monotone map. We prove two existence theorems. The first assumes that the maximal monotone map involved is everywhere defined and in the second we drop this requirement at the expense of strengthening the growth hypothesis on the vector field. The proofs are based on the theory of operators of monotone type and on the Leray-Schauder fixed point theorem. At the end we present some special cases (including the classical Dirichlet, Neumann and periodic problems), which illustrate the general and unifying features of our work.

It is well known that every complete lattice can be considered as a complete lattice of closed sets with respect to appropriate closure operator. The theory of q-lattices as a natural generalization of lattices gives rise to a question whether a similar statement is true in the case of q-lattices. In the paper the so-called M-operators are introduced and it is shown that complete q-lattices are q-lattices of closed sets with respect to M-operators.

The paper is focusing on increasing both operators' safety and devices' availability under operation. Each process supported by any composition of the man-devices set it is possible to present and described by selected operation (exploitation) parameters, which can be a subject of monitoring. With use process operation parameters set the target-oriented production Key Performance Indicator has been proposed. Base on Key Performance Indicator both operators' safety and devices' availability analysis is possible in practice. Paper composition contains: solution description, good practice examples discussion and conclusions. Safety of man/ operators and availability of devices are very important for everybody and using preventive one solution we can increase and protect both. Additional process operation parameters monitoring, as well as measuring, are an important factors increases people 's awareness. Two different approaches of the same process have been described on examples coming from manufacture. The following approaches have been taken under consideration: traditional one based on reactive maintenance and new approach based on preventive maintenance. The comparison of both scenarios was discussed. For human's safety and dependability of devices, responsibility of all involved employees in practice is equal.

This paper is concerned with the problem of stabilizing one-dimensional parabolic systems related to formations by using finitedimensional controllers of a modal type. The parabolic system is described by a Sturm-Liouville operator, and the boundary condition is different from any of Dirichlet type, Neumann type, and Robin type, since it contains the time derivative of boundary values. In this paper, it is shown that the system is formulated as an evolution equation with unbounded output operator in a Hilbert space, and further that it is stabilized by using an RMF (residual mode filter)-based controller which is of finite-dimension. A numerical simulation result is also given to demonstrate the validity of the finite-dimensional controller.

Analyzing the systems in terms of reliability, we often treat them as the technical objects only, omitting human interaction or assuming that operator has constant characteristics. This significantly distorts the results obtained in this way, since human is a part of the system with special properties that can change together with the predisposition of the operator and the conditions under which he operates. These attributes may have a major influence on the reliability of the systems. Therefore, analysis of systems reliability should include a reliability of operator and its properties. In this paper presented the antropotechnical reliability structure based on selected installation, which is a part of ships propulsion system. Also operator’s functions were defined and the analysis of human reliability, taking into account various properties of the operator and the external conditions, were performed. Then, there is assessed the influence of operator and environmental factors on the value of the entire system reliability. The study used the reliability data of the container ship propulsion system equipped with low-speed piston engine, fixed pitch propeller and auxiliary installations. These data were obtained from studies of expert judgments (Brandowski A., Frąckowiak W. et al.) in the years 2007–2009. For HRA (human reliability analysis), HEART technique (Human Error Assessment and Reduction Technique) was used, together with the human unreliability values and correction factors developed by the authors of this method. Study results illustrate influence of environmental, ergonomic factors and the properties of the operator on the reliability of the antropotechnical systems. The studies were subjected exemplification on fuel treatment installation as a part of ships propulsion systems.

Opis:
Let ℬ be a Banach algebra of bounded linear operators on a Banach space X. If S is a closed operator in X such that (λ - S)^{-1} ∈ ℬ for some number λ, then S is affiliated with ℬ. The object of this paper is to study the spectral theory and Fredholm theory relative to ℬ of an operator which is affiliated with ℬ. Also, applications are given to semigroups of operators which are contained in ℬ.
