This paper touches upon a crucial motive in the evolution of the spirituality of St. Augustine: the authority of the Holy Bible, which he had first rejected on his reading Hortensius Cicero. Cicero’s work, being in itself an invitation to philosophy, raised St. Augustine love of wisdom (philosophia). In its latter part, this article discloses the reason why the Doctor of Grace adhered to the Manichean doctrine, which he found attractive for its promise to give access to truth without reference to the authority of the faith (terribilis auctoritas). This article gives the reader a chance to follow the path of St. Augustine’s spiritual growth. Despite his Christian roots and education, bequeathed to him by his Saint mother Monica, his juvenile pride and his overambitious attitude made him reject the authority of the Holy Bible, which he found at tangent with his own intellectual needs. In short, he rejected the authority of the faith and regarded it as useless, since it raised his anxiety and terror (terribilis auctoritas). This is why he subscribed to the Manichean doctrine, which promised a completely rational comprehension of truth.

The Book of Job read in synchronic way shows the evolution of prayer of the biblical hero. This hero, in the course of painful experiences, undergoes metamorphosis and passes the subsequent stages when approaching God in his prayer. From a rebellion against God, through an anger and argument with God, the hero experiences a deep spiritual depression. Finally, he accepts with confidence God’s way of proceeding in life and in the rule over the world. The hero’s prayer constitutes a model of maturation in human encounter with God.

The aim of catechesis is not simply to give information to interlocutors about the Catholic faith. Catechesis seeks to do much more than this, with its ultimate aim being that of putting the human being in communion with Christ. The six tasks through which catechesis seeks to achieve its endeavours include: knowledge of the faith, liturgical education, moral formation, formation in prayer and methods of prayer, education for community life and missionary initiation.

The article discusses the history of reforms of American religious sisters initiated by Pius XII and concluded by a joint agreement between the LCWR and the Commissions of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The article shows the character of the reforms undertaken before and after the Council and how two organizations representing American sisters were established. The continuous departure of the LCWR from the teaching of the Church is presented in opposition to the fidelity of the second organization with canonical status – CMSWR. The lack of vocations among the sisters gathered in the LCWR is a sign of mistakes in the reforms that were undertaken and politicization of the organization.

Because of the communicational-communional nature of the human person and of the Church, always existing in relation to God, people and the world, the faith and life of the Church are essentially related to culture. This relationship is always very dynamic and there must be constant strive to give it the right shape. This is the purpose of the theological reflection on culture itself and on the mutual relations between faith and culture, which appreciates and promotes contemporary models and strategies of action known as evangelization of culture and the inculturation of the faith.

This paper is a reflection on the theological and pastoral implications of the communication of faith through the media. Its starting point is not based on the dichotomous categorisation of the media as either very beneficial, or very negative for the communication of faith; thus avoiding an either/or attitude which is very limiting. The hypothesis explored is that the language of faith is only communicated through the language of a medium and that such a translation, not to say incarnation, has to take into consideration the technological, organisational and cultural dimensions of the legacy or traditional media as well as their very important role in contemporary culture. The cultural and theological reflection will then be followed by the proposal of elements of a pastoral strategy that best respects the characteristics of faith and media as well as those of the audiences towards which both faith and media are directed.

The article presents the fundamental aspects of the encyclical Fides et ratio of John Paul II concerning the historical and theological context of contemporary culture. It indicates current problems in the harmonious existence of societies that function according to paradigms contrary to the absolute truth of the theological subject. The errors resulting from modernism (subjective rationalism, the cognitive negation of faith) and postmodernism (relativization of truth, atheism and antitheism, the reductionism of faith) are discussed. Further, the existential value of religious faith is demonstrated through the correlation of meaning/sense and truth. In doing so, this article serves as an apologetic for the rational nature of faith. Truth is emphasized as a gift both contained in and received from God’s Revelation, a gift necessary for discovering the sense of human reality.
Artykuł przedstawia fundamentalne aspekty encykliki Fides et ratio Jana Pawła II w odniesieniu do kontekstu historycznego i teologicznego współczesnej kultury. Wskazuje na aktualne problemy w harmonijnym egzystowaniu społeczeństw funkcjonujących według paradygmatów sprzecznych z prawdą absolutną stanowiącą przedmiot teologiczny. Omówione są tu błędy wynikające z modernizmu (subiektywny racjonalizm, poznawcza negacja wiary), postmodernizmu (relatywizacja prawdy, ateizm i antyteizm, redukcjonizm wiary). Wyjaśniono wartość egzystencjalną wiary religijnej jako ukazującej korelację sensu i prawdy, w ten sposób dokonując apologii racjonalnego charakteru wiary. Wyakcentowano prawdę jako dar zawarty w Bożym Objawieniu, niezbędny do odkrycia sensu ludzkiej rzeczywistości.

W opracowaniu dokonano analizy przepisów materialnych i proceduralnych, wydanych w 2001 roku przez Kongregację Nauki Wiary „Normae Potestas Ecclesiae de conficiendo processu pro solutione vinculi matrimonialis in favorem fidei”. Przepisy te, mają zastosowanie do nieuregulowanych w Kodeksie prawa kanonicznego przypadków, w których możliwe jest rozwiązanie małżeństwa niesakramentalnego, stosując przywilej wiary (privilegium fidei). Powyższa sytuacja dotyczy małżeństw zawartych przez strony, z których przynajmniej jedna nie jest ochrzczona, jeśli one miałyby być rozwiązane, celem zawarcia nowego związku sakramentalnego, po przyjęciu chrztu przez jedną ze stron i niedopełnienia po przyjęciu go przez obojga. Przypadki takie muszą zostać poddane Biskupowi Rzymskiemu, który po badaniu dokonanym przez kompetentnego biskupa, a następnie przez Kongregację Nauki Wiary, osądza według swojej pasterskiej roztropności, czy węzeł małżeński ma być rozwiązany czy też nie.              Wspomniana Dykasteria Kurii Rzymskiej, dla procedowania w poszczególnych przypadkach wydawała normy proceduralne, które ulegały na przestrzeni lat modyfikacjom, uwzględniającym zmieniające się okoliczności życia. Ostatni z dokumentów z roku 2001, został poddany w niniejszym opracowaniu szczegółowej analizie. W tym celu uwzględniono zarówno aspekty materialne jak i proceduralne przepisów zawartych w dokumencie oraz sposób ich aplikacji w pierwszych latach po ich promulgacji. Po zaprezentowaniu założeń i zakresu stosowania obowiązujących norm Potestas Ecclesiae, dokonano analizy poszczególnych etapów procedury adiministracyjnej, zarówno w fazie diecezjalnej, jak i na szczeblu Stolicy Apostolskiej. W ostatnim punkcie publikacji, zawarte zostały dane statystyczne, ukazujące praktykę stosowania norm Potestas Ecclesiae, na przestrzeni kilku pierwszych lat po ich wejściu w życie.
The study analyzes material and procedural regulations issued in 2001 by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith „Normae Potestas Ecclesiae de conficiendo processu pro solutione vinculi matrimonialis in favorem fidei”. These regulations apply to the cases that are not regulated in the Code of Canon Law in which it is possible to terminate a non-sacramental marriage by using the privilege of faith (privilegium fidei).  The above situation applies to the marriages concluded by the parties, at least one of which is not baptized, if they were to be dissolved, in order to enter into a new sacramental relationship after being baptized by one of the parties and if it has not been consummated after being baptized by both of them. Such cases must be submitted to the Roman Bishop who, after the investigation performed by a competent bishop and then by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, judges according to his pastoral prudence whether the marriage bond is to be dissolved or not. The mentioned Dicastery of the Roman Curia, for proceeding in individual cases, issued procedural norms that have been modified over the years, taking into account the changing circumstances of life. The last of the documents from 2001 has been subjected to detailed analysis in this study. For this purpose both material and procedural aspects of the regulations contained in the document and the method of their application in the first years after their promulgation were taken into account. After presenting the assumptions and scope of application of applicable norms Potestas Ecclesiae, an analysis of the individual stages of the administrative procedure was carried out, both in the diocesan phase and at the level of the Holy See. In the last point of the publication there were contained the statistical data showing the practice of applying the norms Potestas Ecclesiae over the first few years after their entry into force.

Nowadays the Church has a great challenge connected with taking up evangelization again. It must be an answer to signs of the times, to the needs of present people and to the conditions in which the man lives. In these complex and difficult realities there is a need for Christians capable of sharing their faith, who will keep on preaching with fervour and apostolic enthusiasm. As it is indicated in Instrumentum laboris, catechists can cope with this task. They are the subjects of passing on the faith and they are responsible for its preaching. In the document there are suggestions about how they should carry out their mission. However, they need more detailed elaboration. All these matters are to be discussed during 13th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. We must hope that they will meet specific solutions, becoming an impulse to greater involvement in passing on the faith by catechists participating in the new evangelization through their service.

Istotą nowej ewangelizacji ma być doprowadzenie współczesnego człowieka do osobistego spotkania z Osobą Jezusa Chrystusa. Nowa ewangelizacja jest wyraźnym wezwaniem, by Kościół powrócił do swoich korzeni, by jego członkowie wybrali chrześcijaństwo jako styl życia. Musi to być ich osobisty wybór. W liście ogłaszającym Rok Wiary Benedykt XVI podkreśla, że „znajomość treści wiary jest istotna, by wyrazić swą zgodę, to znaczy, aby w pełni, rozumem i wolą, przyjąć to, co proponuje Kościół”. O czym papież mówi? Wielu katolików mówi o sobie: „jestem wierzący, ale niepraktykujący”, tymczasem mamy dziś fenomen osób praktykujących niewierzących. Wierzących w Boga, ale niewierzących Bogu. Niewierzących, że życie w Nim i z Nim da im szczęście i pełnię życia. Istotą chrześcijaństwa jest bowiem osobowa relacja z Bogiem. Bycie uczniem Chrystusa nie jest czymś abstrakcyjnym ani tytułem naukowym, który można uzyskać, ale formą życia, która ujawnia się przede wszystkim w relacjach. Wiara, o której dziś mówimy, jest w dużym procencie martwa. Dlaczego, mimo naszej służby, zaangażowania i działań duszpasterskich, ludzie nie nawracają się, a nawet odchodzą od Boga i Kościoła? Rodzina stanowi szczególne miejsce ewangelizacji: „rodzinę, podobnie jak Kościół, należy uważać za pole, na które przynosi się Ewangelię i z którego ona się rozkrzewia. Dlatego w łonie rodziny, świadomej tego zadania, wszyscy jej członkowie ewangelizują, a także podlegają ewangelizacji. To właśnie w rodzinie odbywa się – ten sam, co w Kościele – proces ewangelizacji: świadectwo, przepowiadanie i sakramenty”. Społeczeństwo, Kościół tworzą rodziny, stąd Nowa Ewangelizacja dotyczy przede wszystkim Rodziny. Ona jest najważniejszą troską Nowej Ewangelizacji. Musimy patrzeć w przód, zobaczyć Kościół za 20, 30 lat. Od tego, jak dziś będziemy budować, będzie zależał obraz Kościoła następnych pokoleń. Wielki nakaz Jezusa, skierowany do swoich uczniów: „Idźcie i głoście Ewangelię” (Mk 16,15) rozbrzmiewa także pośród „kościoła domowego”, który jest ewangelizowany, jak i ewangelizujący? Nakaz ten przynagla do działania!
The essence of the new evangelization is to guide modern man to a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. New Evangelization is a clear call to the Church to return to its roots, so that its members can chose Christianity as a way of life. This must be their personal choice. In the letter announcing the Year of the Faith, Benedict XVI emphasizes that “knowledge of the content of faith is important to express their consent, so as to fully, by intellect and will, accept what the Church proposes.” What does the Pope mean? Many Catholics say about themselves: “I'm a believer, but not a practicing one,” whereas today we have the phenomenon of people practicing but not believing. They believe in God, but do not believe God. They do not believe that life in him and with him will give them happiness and fullness of life. The essence of Christianity is a personal bond with God. Being a disciple of Christ is not something abstract or an academic degree, which can be obtained, but a form of life, which manifests itself primarily in the relationship. Faith, of which we speak today, is largely dead. Why, in spite of our ministry, commitment and pastoral activities, people do not repent, even moving away from God and the Church? The family is a special place of evangelization: “The family, like the Church, is to be regarded as a field, into which the Gospel is brought and where the Gospel takes root. In a family, conscious of this mission, all the members evangelize and are evangelized. This is what takes place in the family – just like in the Church – the process of evangelization: the testimony, preaching and the sacraments. Society, the Church, form a family, hence the new evangelization is primarily concerned with families. The family is the main concern of the New Evangelization. We must look forward and see the Church as it will be 20 or 30 years from now. The way we build today will shape the image of the Church in the next generation. Does the Great Commission of Jesus, addressed to his disciples: “Go and preach the Gospel” (Mk 16:15) also resound in the “domestic church”, which is evangelized and evangelizing? This commission impels to action!

Opis:
A new method appeared on the contemporary „theological market”, called the graphic presentation method or graphic presentation. It is an introduction to a certain principal paradox of Christianity and seeing the articles of faith. Its application to broadly understood theology can make theology itself more available to people and contribute to its popularization through the kerygma of Church. It opens a new span in theology through which it is possible to express both integrity, the whole of the history of salvation, its internally cohesive structure, and its dynamics. Each graph illustrates a different stage of the fulfilment of the salutary plan of God.
Auf dem zeitgenössischen „theologischen Markt” macht eine neue Methode von sich reden, die als grafisch-geometrische Methode bezeichnet wird. Sie führt den Menschen in ein gewisses grundsätzliches Paradox des Christentums und der Sicht der Glaubenswahrheiten ein. Ihre Anwendung in der im weitesten Sinne verstandenen Theologie kann diese selbst einem breiteren Gremium zugänglicher machen und zu ihrer Popularisierung durch das Kerygma der Kirche beitragen. Dies eröffnet eine neue Brückenfunktion der Theologie, durch die sowohl der integrale, ganzheitliche Charakter der Heilsgeschichte, ihre in sich stimmige Struktur, sowie ihre Dynamik ausgedrückt werden kann. Die einzelnen grafischen Darstellungen illustrieren die einzelnen Etappen der Verwirklichung des göttlichen Heilsplanes.

Postmodernity with its virtues and shortcomings reveals before the adults the need and necessity of religious education. The sources of religion support people to implement tasks of adulthood. In the Polish reality, it is usually referring to the Christian religion. Religious education for adult generally provide knowledge about the sources of religious. The knowledge helps them in finding a proper place in the world. In the Catholic Church the religious education for adult has its own centuries-old tradition. Their the main source is Bible. Exploring the Bible, people can deepens their religious life, developing relationships with other people, makes evaluation of their behavior and look their life reality in a new way.
