Opis:
Optimization problems arising in telecommunications are often large-scale nonlinear problems. Usually their big size is generated mainly by their linear parts but the existence of small or medium nonlinear parts prevents us from directly tackling them with linear solvers, which are efficient. Instead, the author has proposed a method to decompose big nonlinear problems into nonlinear and linear parts. Its coordination procedure uses two auxiliary solvers: quadratic and pure nonlinear. The procedure falls in the class of projection methods. Special cuts proposed by the author allow to avoid an excessive zigzagging while not enormously increasing the complexity of both the parts. The validity of these cuts can be analyzed within the framework of obtuse cone model. Here the author summarizes the method and analyses its applicability to nonlinear multicommodity flow problems. The structure and particular sizes of this problem make the method useful. The considerations are illustrated by a numerical example with a multicommodity flow problem

Opis:
We demonstrate that eigenvalue problems for ordinary differential equations can be recast in a formulation suitable for the solution by polynomial collocation. It is shown that the well-posedness of the two formulations is equivalent in the regular as well as in the singular case. Thus, a collocation code equipped with asymptotically correct error estimation and adaptive mesh selection can be successfully applied to compute the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions efficiently and with reliable control of the accuracy. Numerical examples illustrate this claim.

Opis:
In this article, a well-known technique, the variational iterative method with the Laplace transform, is used to solve nonlinear evolution problems of a simple pendulum and mass spring oscillator, which represents the duffing equation. In the variational iteration method (VIM), finding the Lagrange multiplier is an important step, and the variational theory is often used for this purpose. This paper shows how the Laplace transform can be used to find the multiplier in a simpler way. This method gives an easy approach for scientists and engineers who deal with a wide range of nonlinear problems. Duffing equation is solved by different analytic methods, but we tackle this for the first time to solve the duffing equation and the nonlinear oscillator by using the Laplace-based VIM. In the majority of cases, Laplace variational iteration method (LVIM) just needs one iteration to attain high accuracy of the answer for linearization anddiscretization, or intensive computational work is needed. The convergence criteria of this method are efficient as compared with the VIM. Comparing the analytical VIM by Laplace transform with MATLAB’s built-in command Simulink that confirms the method’s suitability for solving nonlinear evolution problems will be helpful. In future, we will be able to find the solution of highly nonlinear oscillators.

Opis:
This article focuses on the exact periodic solutions of nonlinear wave equations using the well-known Jacobi elliptic function expansion method. This method is more general than the hyperbolic tangent function expansion method. The periodic solutions are found using this method which contains both solitary wave and shock wave solutions. In this paper, the new results are computed using the closed-form solution including solitary or shock wave solutions which are obtained using Jacobi elliptic function method. The corresponding solitary or shock wave solutions are compared with the actual results. The results are visualised and the periodic behaviour of the solution is described in detail. The shock waves are found to break with time, whereas, solitary waves are found to be improved continuously with time.

We use both the method of successive approximations, the Banach fixed point theorem and the monotone iterative technique, as well. Linear problems are also discussed. A few examples illustrate the results.

Electromagnetic arrangements which create a magnetic field of required distribution and magnitude are widely used in electrical engineering. Development of new accurate designing methods is still a valid topic of technical investigations. From the theoretical point of view the problem belongs to magnetic fields synthesis theory. This paper discusses a problem of designing a shape of a solenoid which produces a uniform magnetic field on its axis. The method of finding an optimal shape is based on a genetic algorithm (GA) coupled with Bézier curves.

In a series of the recent papers of the author, it was shown that the solutions and Lagrange multipliers of state-constrained optimal control problems are locally Lipschitz continuous and directionally differentiable functions of the parameter, under usual constraint qualifications and weakened second order conditions. In this paper, it is shown that those conditions are not only sufficient, but also necessary. Thus, they consitute a characterization of Lipschitz stability and sensitivity properties for state-constrained optimal control problems.

We consider the Cauchy problem for infinite system of differential functional equations $\partial_{t}z_{k}(t, x) = f_{k}(t, x, z, \partial_{x}z_{k}(t, x)), k \in \mathbf{N}$. In the paper we consider a general class of difference methods for this problem. We prove the convergence of methods under the assumptions that given functions satisfy the nonlinear estimates of the Perron type with respect to functional variables. The proof is based on functional difference inequalities. We constructed the Euler method as an example of difference method.
