Opis:
The present study aimed to determine the role of job components and individual parameters on the raised blood pressure among male workers of textile industry who were exposed to continuous high noise level. Information of all eligible subjects including demographic and individual characteristics, medical history and job characteristics were obtained by direct interview and referring to the medical records. All blood pressure measurements were done using mercury sphygmomanometer in the morning before work. The 8-hours equivalent A-weighted sound pressure level, the level of blood cholesterol and triglyceride, and noise annoyance was determined for each worker. As the result of weighted regression in path analysis (direct effect), only the work shift did not have a significant effect on blood pressure among the studiem variables. It can be seen that variables including the level of triglyceride, cholesterol, and noise exposure have the most direct effects on blood pressure. The results of total effects showed that variables, including using the hearing protection device, age, work experience and visibility of sound source, did not have a significant effect on blood pressure. The results of this study indicate that occupational noise exposure alone and combined with other job components and individual parameters is associated with raised blond pressure. However, noise exposure was probably a stronger stressor for increased blood pressure.

Opis:
Noise exposure is one of the most important physical agents in the workplace which can induce job stress in several ways. The aim of this study was to model the interactions between independent and mediating variables and job stress using structural equation modeling. In this study, Weinstein’s noise sensitivity scale, noise annoyance questionnaire, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) job stress questionnaire and job satisfaction scale were used. To assess worker’s noise exposure, the 8-hours equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure level (LAeq;8 h), was measured based on ISO 9612 (2009). To achieve the aims of study, the structural equation model was run using R software 3.4.1 and Cytoscape software 3.6.0. Based on the results, while there was a direct positive correlation of noise exposure on total job stress, there were also indirect positive effects through job satisfaction and noise sensitivity as mediator variables. Using hearing protective devices negatively affected total job stress through a direct pathway and an indirect pathway when job satisfaction was a mediator variable. Regarding the total effect of noise exposure and using hearing protection devices on job stress subscales, it can be concluded that noise exposure and using hearing protection devices had greatest effect on colleagues support and demand, respectively. It can be concluded that noise exposure and lack of hearing protective devices have a significant positive effect on job stress among workers of a textile industry. In addition to the direct effect, this factor can induce job stress through noise sensitivity, job satisfaction and noise annoyance. Therefore, measures which can decrease any of the mentioned factors, also can alleviate job stress.

The quality of machine components surfaces plays an important impact on their functional performance. Product performance may be restricted by changes to surface integrity, which includes changes to roughness, hardness, and microstructure. In this research, the impact of cutting variables in CNC turning under the conventional cooling condition on surface hardness of Duplex Stainless Steel. Cutting variables under conventional cooling, including cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut, have been optimized utilizing Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array designed with three stages of turning variables. The optimal variable stages and the degree of significance of the cutting variables, respectively, were determined utilizing the analysis of means (ANOM) and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Effectiveness tests with optimum stages of variables were done to prove the viability of optimization by utilizing Taguchi. It has been found that the maximum surface hardness is most strongly affected by the feed 71.29%, followed by the depth of cut 12.1%, and finally the cutting speed 11.61%.

Opis:
The population of mobile communication subscribers keeps increasing exponentially with a growing industrial interest in the provision of improved quality of service. To maintain quality of service in a heterogeneous network built for high capacity utilization, the communication network must be stable as mobile users interact within the implemented coverage distribution. One of the basic mechanisms behind this communication metric is its ability to communicate wirelessly with respect to changing locations. Mobility is one critical benefit of mobile communication, which is made possible through the process of Handoff. One of the key performances in mobile communication is Handoff failure (call termination) rate, which is dependent critically on the handoff initiation mechanism. In this paper, the effect of traditional single parameter of either signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) or throughput on handover threshold and hysteresis was investigated. Consequently, a cross layer enhanced adaptive handoff initiation algorithm using fuzzy logic was proposed. The proposed method exploits the capability of soft computing to handle the unpredictable nature of the radio propagation environment. Four critical handoff Network-link parameters were employed to vary the Handoff threshold and Hysteresis in test the adaptive functionality of the algorithm. The proposed algorithm was seen to be adaptive to throughput, SNR, mobile transmitting power (MTP) and mobile velocity, thereby resulting in improved quality of service, marked with a decrease in handoff failure probability rate.

The main objective of the research presented in this paper is to enhance driver-passengers Comfort of a vehicle that in turn leads to better vehicle safety and stability. The focus was put on studying the interior vibration and noise contributions originated from tire-road and engine-transmission subsystems, due to their significant impact on the dynamic performance of the vehicle. The noise and vibration measurements were recorded at the driver’s head position and on the driver legs room. Furthermore, the influence of different tire types and road surface textures on the vehicle interior noise and vibration were considered. The results indicate that the widely used conventional engine mounts and tires in commercial vehicles cannot fulfill the conflicting requirements for the best isolation concerning both road surface and engine-transmission induced excitations. The values of driver’s head position sound pressure level and floor vibration acceleration broadband averages originate for engine-transmission are lower than that for tire-road interaction. Furthermore, the values of RMS, crest factor, kurtosis and IRI for the vehicle waveform were estimated for vehicle speeds, tire types and road surface textures. Moreover, the percentage contribution for both interior noise and vibration originated from tire-road interaction is higher than the one from vehicle engine-transmission system in all the vehicle speed range, tire type and road surface texture considered.

Opis:
The paper presents noise measurements in low-resistance photodetectors using a crosscorrelation-based transimpedance amplifier. Such measurements usually apply a transimpedance amplifier design to provide a current fluctuation amplification. In the case of low-resistance sources, the measurement system causes additional relevant system noise which can be higher than noise generated in a tested detector. It mainly comes from the equivalent input voltage noise of the transimpedance amplifier. In this work, the unique circuit and a three-step procedure were used to reduce the floor noise, covering the measured infrared detector noise, mainly when operating with no-bias or low-bias voltage. The modified circuit and procedure to measure the noise of unbiased and biased detectors characterized by resistances much lower than 100 Ω were presented. Under low biases, the reference low-resistance resistors tested the measurement system operation and techniques. After the system verification, noise characteristics in low-resistance InAs and InAsSb infrared detectors were also measured.

Efektywność systemu zweryfikowano poprzez pomiary referencyjnych rezystorów, a następnie detektora z supersieci drugiego rodzaju (T2SL) wykonanego z InAs/InAsSb.
The paper presents noise measurements of low-resistance photon detectors with a specially developed system. These measurements are significant for many applications. This issue is particularly critical for laser absorption spectroscopy systems to detect trace amounts of gases. In these systems, the detection limit is determined by noise origins, e.g., light source, background, and detector noise and its readout electronics. The use of some specially designed components of the system (low-noise - 3.6 × 10⁻¹⁹ V² /Hz for f >1 kHz) cross-correlation signal processing provides to obtain a measuring floor noise below 10⁻¹⁸ V² /Hz for f > 10 Hz and below 10⁻¹⁹ V² /Hz for f > 1 kHz after ten minutes’ analysis. Measurements of some reference resistors have verified the system’s performance. Finally, the system was also applied to determine the spectral noise density of the II-Type SuperLattice photodetector made of InAs/InAsSb.

In this paper, the novel chopper-stabilized bio-potential amplifier is proposed. The chopper stabilization technique is used to reduce the offset and flicker noise. Further, the OTA is likewise comprised of a method to enhance the input impedance without consuming more power. Also, the ripple reduction technique is used at the output branch of the OTA. The designed amplifier consumes 5.5 µW power with the mid-band gain of 40dB. The pass-band for the designed amplifier is 0.1Hz to 1KHz. The input impedance is likewise boosted with the proposed method. The noise is 42 nV/√ Hz with CMRR of 82 dB. All simulations are carried out in 180nm parameters.

The article aims to solve the problem of noise optimization of small wind turbines. The detailed analysis concentrates on accurate specification and prediction of the turbulent boundary layer noise spectrum of the blade airfoil. The angles of attack prediction for a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) and the estimation based on literature data for a vertical axis one (VAWT), were conducted, and the influence on the noise spectrum was considered. The 1/3-octave sound pressure levels are obtained by semi-empirical model BPM. Resulting contour plots show a fundamental difference in the spectrum of HAWT and VAWT reflecting the two aerodynamic modes of flow that predefine the airfoil self-noise. Comparing the blade elements with a local radius of 0.875 m in the HAWT and VAWT conditions the predicted sound pressure levels are the 78.5 dB and 89.8 dB respectively. In case of the HAWT with predicted local angle of attack ranging from 2.98º to 4.63º, the acoustic spectrum will vary primarily within broadband frequency band 1.74–20 kHz. For the VAWT with the local angle of attack ranging from 4º to 20º the acoustic spectrum varies within low and broadband frequency bands 2 Hz – 20 kHz.

Rotating element bearings are the backbone of every rotating machine. Vibration signals measured from these bearings are used to diagnose the health of the machine, but when the signal-to-noise ratio is low, it is challenging to diagnose the fault frequency. In this paper, a new method is proposed to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio by applying the Asymmetric Real Laplace wavelet Bandpass Filter (ARL-wavelet-BPF). The Gaussian function of the ARL-wavelet represents an excellent BPF with smooth edges which helps to minimize the ripple effects. The bandwidth and center frequency of the ARL-wavelet-BPF are optimized using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Spectral kurtosis (SK) of the envelope spectrum is employed as a fitness function for the PSO algorithm which helps to track the periodic spikes generated by the fault frequency in the vibration signal. To validate the performance of the ARL-wavelet-BPF, different vibration signals with low signal-to-noise ratio are used and faults are diagnosed.
