Opis:
Basic soil chemical properties were assessed in a long-term tillage and crop rotation experiment 15 years after its establishment on a Chernozem in Raasdorf (Austria) with four tillage treatments – mouldboard ploughing, no-till, deep conservation tillage and shallow conservation tillage – and two crop rotations. The following parameters were assessed: pHCaCl2, pHH2O, electrical conductivity, cation exchange capacity, total nitrogen, total organic carbon and total carbon. Among which, pHCaCl2, pHH2O, and total carbon increased with soil depth while electrical conductivity, cation exchange capacity, total nitrogen, and total organic carbon decreased with soil depth. The differences between tillage treatments occurred after 15 years in the upper soil layer from 0-5 cm with higher values of electrical conductivity under no-till, deep conservation tillage and shallow conservation tillage than with mouldboard ploughing, higher values of cation exchange capacity and total nitrogen for no-till than for mouldboard ploughing (with deep conservation tillage and shallow conservation tillage showing intermediate values) and more total organic carbon for no-till and deep conservation tillage than for mouldboard ploughing. At a 5-10 cm depth, electrical conductivity was higher for no-till than for mouldboard ploughing. Values of pHCaCl2 and pHH2O did not differ between tillage treatments in any soil layer. In deeper soil layers, tillage did not affect the analysed parameters. Crop rotation did not affect any of the analysed soil chemical properties.

Opis:
Seasonal drought stress is common in farmland even under humid climate conditions. Low soil water content and high penetration resistance in clayey soil are both factors that limit crop growth, which is significantly affected by tillage. In a twoyear (2014-2015) field experiment conducted in Hubei, China, the effects of conventional tillage, along with occasional deep tillage and no-till, on the soil water content and penetration resistance values of red soil and on the crop water potentials of the maize crop (Zea mays L.) were tested. Compared to conventional tillage, deep tillage reduced the difference in the soil water characteristic curve between 0-40 cm soil layers, resulting in a more loose and homogeneous topsoil. The deep tillage significantly (p<0.05) decreased soil penetration resistance, increased soil-available water content and soil water content during the dry period, promoted an increase in maize root density by 11.4~31.6%, and increased the water potential of the maize root and leaf during most growth stages. In contrast, the effect of no-till was opposite to that of deep tillage, reducing maize grain yield by 25.3~26.3%. The results confirmed that no-till is not appropriate for the clayey red soil but rather that tillage is needed. This suggests that occasional deep tillage is helpful in mitigating seasonal crop drought stress under the conditions of a humid climate.

Opis:
Conservation farming practices using the least soil disturbance and straw-return benefits the crop agronomic attributes and soil nutrient accumulation. The four-year (2016-2019) research was conducted under randomized complete blocks design to explore the agronomic benefit of conservation tillage practices on wheat yield performance and on soil fertility parameters. The two straw treatments consisted of wheat straw-return to the notilled soil and straw incorporation into the conventionally tilled soil. The two tillage treatments were the no-tillage and conventional tillage control. These conservative tillage treatments were compared with the conventional tillage control. In comparison with conventional tillage, the conservation management practices of no-tilled soil, conventionally tilled soil, and no-tillage notably increased the yield by an average of 33, 26, and 18% respectively. Moreover, conservative tillage practices improved the soil nitratenitrogen, ammonium nitrogen and carbon contents in the 0-30 cm soil layer by 12, 9, and 15% respectively over conventional tillage, averaged across conventionally tilled soil, no-tilled soil, and no-tillage. The overall distribution of soil nitrate-nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, and carbon in the 0-30 cm soil layer with regard to conventionally tilled, no-tilled soil, and no-tillage was greater than conventional tillage, based on Principal Component Analysis. We concluded that conservation tillage practices could replace conventionally tilled practice with respect to productivity, soil mineral nitrogen, and carbon accumulation benefits.

Opis:
The soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks have become of special importance for sustainable biofuels production. We focused on SOC changes in high activity clay soils in Poland un- der arable crops for biofuels production. The SOC sequestration values were calculated using a DNDC model with four different tillage systems. The initial SOC stocks in Poland were highly spatially variable with values in the range of 35–97 t C ha-1 . The simulated regional SOC sequestration rates in topsoils ranged from -0.17 to 0.32 t C ha-1 year-1 in full tillage, 0.36–0.73 t C ha-1 year-1 in reduced tillage, and 1.69–3.22 t C ha-1 year-1 in no-tillage. For full tillage with straw incorporation the results for SOC sequestration were similar to those of the reduced tillage. The uncertainties of the estimations were provided, in addition to the length of the periods of SOC sequestration. The results for Poland are relatively high comparted to those from literature which might suggest that DNDC overestimated the SOC stocks in our study. Although DNDC was based on long-term tests and proved adequate SOC simulations in many studies, still a comprehensive model validation is required in a field scale with relevant SOC measurements, climatic, soil and crop data.

Opis:
The paper presents the results concerning the degree of interest in the application of simplification in the cultivation of the role among farmers from the Olsztyn district of Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodship. It also mentions the reasons for possible simplifications and the reasons for their lack of implementation in agricultural practice. In the light of the data presented from 4 deliberately selected farms, it appears that tillage was often limited to pre-soving operations (no stuuble cultivation). Post harvest cultivation (after crop harvest) in the analyzed group of farms was used only on 46,9% of the agricultural area. According to farmers, the most common reason for using no till cultivation is for economic reasons or the lack of time for full cultivation. On the other hand, the main reason for the lack of interest in simplified tillage technology, especially direct sowing, among farmers covered by the study is the lack of appropriate equipment and attachment to the traditional cultivation model.
