Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono projekt scalonego szerokopasmowego nadajnika dla systemu bezprzewodowej rejestracji potencjałów neuronowych. Prezentowany nadajnik został zaimplementowany w technologii CMOS 180 nm i pracuje w paśmie 4 GHz z modulacją OOK. Zawiera on kodera FEC, moduł przeplotu danych oraz kontroli mocy transmisji.
The paper presents a low power integrated wideband telemetry system for neural recording. The presented system operates in 4 GHz band. It makes use of OOK modulation and offers very high data rate, up to 80 Mbits/s. The proposed system (Fig. 1) consists of an FPGA based controller and an an RF transmitter. The controller implements an FEC encoder, a bit interleaver, a scrambler and a pulse generator driving the RF transmitter. The FEC encoder is based on a bit-serial (233, 255) Reed-Solomon encoder. The scrambler is responsible for producing appropriate numbers of transitions in the transmitted signal to facilitate bit syn-chronization in the receiver. The RF transmitter was implemented in 180 nm CMOS process with an area of 0.4 x 0.75 mm2. It consumes 1.8 mW operating with the 20 Mbits/s data rate and the transmission range set to 4 m. All of the inductors were integrated on the transmit-ter silicon die, so the only external components are power supply bypass capacitors. For the experimental tests of the presented system a dedicated ultra wide-band antenna was designed on a 0.813 mm microwave substrate (Fig. 7). The radiating element (top layer) has dimensions of roughly 16 x 15 mm and the ground plane dimensions are 16 x 12 mm (bottom layer). The antenna features a very wide impedance band-width of 2.45 GHz (reflection coefficient below -10 dB) and operates in the frequency range 3.30 to 5.75 GHz. The antenna gain at the intended center frequency of the system, i.e. 4 GHz, is 2 dBi and VSWR is below 1.2. The accompa-nying receiver makes use of an AD8318 logarithmic detector.

Opis:
This paper proposes a new information-theoretic method based on the information enhancement method to extract important input variables. The information enhancement method was developed to detect important components in neural systems. Previous methods have focused on the detection of only the most important components, and therefore have failed to fully incorporated the information contained in the components into learning processes. In addition, it has been observed that the information enhancement method cannot always extract input information from input patterns. Thus, in this paper a computational method is developed to accumulate information content in the process of information enhancement. The method was applied to an artificial data set and the analysis of mission statements. The results demonstrate that while we were able to explicitly extract the symmetric properties of the data from the artificial data set, only one main factor was able to be extracted from the mission statement, namely, “contribution to the society”. The companies with higher profits tend to have mission statements concerning the society. The results can be considered to be a first step toward the full clarification of the importance of mission statements in actual business activities.

Opis:
Motivated by the superior performances of neural networks and neuro-fuzzy approaches to fault detection of a single phase induction motor, this paper studies the applicability these two approaches for detection of stator inter-turn faults in a three phase induction motor. Firstly, the paper develops an adaptive neural fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) detection strategy and then compares its performance with that of using a multi layer perceptron neural network (MLP NN) applied to stator inter-turn fault detection of a three phase induction motor. The fault location process is based on the monitoring the three phase shifts between the line current and the phase voltage of the induction machine.

Opis:
The work carried out in this article concerns on the implementation off a diagnostic procedure for hybrid dynamic systems (HDS) whose objective is to guarantee the proper functioning of industrial installations. In this context, the main contributions of this work are summarized into three parts: The first part is oriented to the modeling approach dedicated to HDS. The aim is to find an adequate model combining both aspects (continuous and discrete dynamics). The use of Neuro-fuzzy networks makes it possible to build a model of the system and to follow all the modes without it being necessary to identify or discern them. The second part concerns the synthesis of a fault diagnostic technique based on a fuzzy inference system. A Neuro-Fuzzy network based is used for residual generation, while for the residual evaluation, a fuzzy reasoning model is used which can mainly introduce heuristic information into the analysis scheme and takes the appropriate decision regarding the actual behaviour of the process. The proposed approach is successfully applied to monitoring faults of a non-linear three-tank system and the results confirm the effectiveness of this approach.

Opis:
This paper concerns fuzzy neural networks and fuzzy inference neural networks, which are two different approaches to neuro-fuzzy combinations. The former is a direct fuzzification of artificial neural networks by introducing fuzzy signals and fuzzy weights. The latter is a representation of fuzzy systems in the form of multi-layer connectionist networks, similar to neural networks. Parameters of membership functions (centers and widths) play the role of neural network weights. In this paper, fuzzy inference neural networks with fuzzy parameters are considered. Neuro-fuzzy systems of this kind utilize both approaches: fuzzy neural networks and fuzzy inference neural networks. They also pertain to fuzzy systems of type 2 since membership functions with fuzzy parameters characterize type 2 fuzzy sets. Various architectures of these networks have been obtained for fuzzy systems based on different fuzzy implications. By analogy with fuzzy inference neural networks with crisp parameters, methods of learning fuzzy parameters and rule generation can be derived for neuro-fuzzy systems with fuzzy parameters. Fuzzy inference neural networks are studied in the framework of fuzzy granulation. In particular, fuzzy clustering as fuzzy information granulation is proposed to be applied in order to generate fuzzy IF-THEN rules. Applications of fuzzy inference neural networks are also outlined.

Opis:
The advent of modern low-cost monitoring and wireless transmission systems results in unprecedented availability of measurement data potentially available in near real-time mode. In particular, some of the remote meter reading systems can be used to collect data on an hourly or even sub-hourly basis. This allows the utility companies to model and predict consumer behaviour more precisely than before. In this study, the way the monitoring data can be used to model heat consumption at individual premises supplied with heat by a district heating system, is proposed. The proposed algorithm is based on customer partitioning used to devise a number of group models serving the needs of consumers sharing similar consumption profiles. Self-organising maps are used to group averaged long-term time series, while the short-term time series provide a basis for group prediction models. Particular attention has been paid to a wider hydraulic modelling perspective, as the application of the proposed method to provide assumed demand for hydraulic model of a district heating system is envisaged. The approach has been validated using a real data set. Results show that in spite of a limited number of monitored consumers, group prediction models, constructed using the algorithm proposed in this study, can significantly reduce demand prediction error.

The applicability of approximate NARX models of non-linear dynamic systems is discussed. The models are obtained by a new version of Fourier analysis-based neural network also described in the paper. This constitutes a reformulation of a known method in a recursive manner, i.e. adapted to account for incoming data on-line. The method allows us to obtain an approximate model of the non-linear system. The estimation of the influence of the modelling error on the discrepancy between the model and real system outputs is given. Possible applications of this approach to the design of BIBO stable closed-loop control are proposed.

This paper presents a method for motion planning for a group of mobile robots. The goal of the group is to move through an environment and to reach a destination while maintaining the desired formation. The map of the environment is represented as a grid of cells. A state of each cell is determined. It can be free, occupied by the obstacle, occupied by a robot. The trajectories of the robots are planned using the modification of diffusion method. The algorithm is implemented using Cellular Neural Network. This kind of implementation allows of efficient path planning and to solve conflicts between robots. Computer simulations were preformed in order to proof the efficiency of the approach.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to accelerate development and investigation of the delay systems. The computational time for investigation of particular design of delay system may take from several minutes up to several days. To achieve the required constructional parameters of the system, the iterative calculations usually should be repeated many times. In this paper, an artificial neural network is proposed to be used as the universal approximator for solving mathematical problems of delay system investigation instead of usual analytical and numerical techniques. The application of a multi-layer perceptron is proposed for approximation of solution space with discrete estimates, which were initially received by application of numerical techniques. Different structures of the multi-layer perceptron were tested for approximation. The difference between delay systems synthesis, which was estimated using numerical techniques and trained multi-layer perceptron did not exceed 5% for any of the six design parameter values. The execution time for estimating single delay system was reduced from 240 s to 20 ms. Such fast estimation of design parameters enables performing delay system analysis and design in real time, preserving time for structure visualization in 3D or virtual reality environment.

The objective of this paper is to present a modified structure and a training algorithm of the recurrent Elman neural network which makes it possible to explicitly take into account the time-delay of the process and a Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm for such a network. In MPC the predicted output trajectory is repeatedly linearized on-line along the future input trajectory, which leads to a quadratic optimization problem, nonlinear optimization is not necessary. A strongly nonlinear benchmark process (a simulated neutralization reactor) is considered to show advantages of the modified Elman neural network and the discussed MPC algorithm. The modified neural model is more precise and has a lower number of parameters in comparison with the classical Elman structure. The discussed MPC algorithm with on-line linearization gives similar trajectories as MPC with nonlinear optimization repeated at each sampling instant.

The paper describes results of introductory research focused on possibility to use location data available in a mobile network for the analysis of transport system status and efficiency. The details of a system capable of detecting abnormal traffic situation (accidents, heavy congestion) are described. This system (called VASTAR) uses a neural network to learn and store certain characteristic of the analyzed part of a road system. Based on a measured divergence from normal characteristic, a notification about non-typical situation is triggered. The results of a computational experiment using real-world location data and simulation of abnormal situation are provided. The proposed system can be a relatively low cost way to improve competitiveness of a mobile network operator by allowing him to offer new type of informational service. It could also aid municipal authorities by providing support for decisions regarding road traffic control and management and be used by emergency services as a monitoring an alarming tool for detecting abnormal road traffic situations when other means of observation are unavailable.

Despite of the always growing attention to safety related topics, the enforcement of directives, regulations and technical standards and the improvement of technical solutions aimed to minimize the occupational risks, the number of people dying every day at workplaces is still excessively high. The overall number of injuries is recently decreasing, but both the frequency and the total yearly number of fatalities still remain fundamentalny unchanged in the last years. The main problem with accidental data, as officially reported, is that very often, no evaluation is possible in terms of root causes, e.g. standard violations. Since the target of the analysis is the determination of the causal chain of events that lead to the accident to understand how it happened and how to avoid the occurrence of similar situations, the lack of detailed information lead to many difficulties in the definition of the suitable prevention measures. This paper shows three different, but integrated. methods able to collect, manage and analyze the information related to occurred accidents for preventive purposes.
