Opis:
Groundings and collisions still represent the highest percentage of marine accidents despite the current attention on Maritime Education and Training and the improvement of sensor capability. Most of the time, a collision is caused by a human error with consequences ranging from moderate to severe, with a substantial impact on both environment and life safeguarded at sea. In this paper, a brief statistical data regarding human element as a root cause of marine incidents together with collision regulations misunderstanding is presented as a background chapter. Furthermore, the present work discusses a decision support system architecture to suggest an appropriate action when the risk of a potential collision is detected. The proposed architecture system is based on various modules integrated with proper sensor input data regarding the surrounding navigation area. As a result, the tool can support the Officers of Watch in the decision-making process providing an early suggestion in compliance with the COLlision REGulations. The proposed system is intended to be used onboard independently from the degree of automation of the ship, and it is based on AIS, which is mandatory, making it widely applicable. The proper use of the system can considerably reduce the number of collisions, as demonstrated by the obtained results.

This article presents a mathematical model and an algorithm for controlling a guided bomb to a moving and a stationary ground target. The target path was determined from the kinematic relationships of the reciprocal movement of the bomb and the ground target, based on the proportional approximation method. The analysed control system used sliding control, with the PID algorithm to determine the sliding plane. Three types of sliding planes were considered. In addition, a comparative analysis was carried out for three types of controllers: classic PID, sliding and hybrid. Selected results of the computer simulation are listed.

Advances in computer systems and innovative technologies along with their implementation into the shipping industry not only enabled efficient data exchange between the ship and the shore, but also created a single integrated information network linking all participants of the process and all elements of the maritime sector. Development of the concept of autonomous ships and automated control facilities for their functionality became the next stage in the evolution of innovations. The process of software adaptation, additional electronic steering systems, optical and digital means of monitoring as well as satellite communication facilities for autonomous ships are among the tasks which require search and development of the solutions. Provision of reliable and safe functioning of such ships in the autonomous mode requires development of models and methods for ensuring their accident-free navigation both in relation to the process of ships divergence and improvement of automatic steering systems of movement and course steadiness. In the given work, the analysis of realization of the crewless navigation and possibility of ship automatic movement control systems advancement on the basis of application of mathematical model for the purpose of enhancement of process of the autonomous ship steadiness on the set course is proposed.

The goal of this paper is to investigate the influence of the objectively existing effectiveness functions of an aircraft control system upon the control and managerial decision making process in the framework of the subjective entropy maximum principle. The subjective analysis theory entropy paradigm makes it possible to consider the aircraft control system based upon personal preferences as an active system governed by an individual (active element of the control system) with the help of her/his individual subjective preferences optimal distributions obtained in conditions of operational multi-alternativeness and those operational alternatives the active system active element’s individual subjective preferences uncertainty. The described approach takes into account the simple two-alternative operational situation in regards with the objectively existing effectiveness functions, related to the aircraft control system, in the view of a controlled parameter and a combination of it with its rate as the ratio. The obtained expressions for the objective functional extremal functions of the effectiveness and preferences, as well as the subjective entropy of the alternatives preferences, illustrated in diagrams visualize the situation and allow taking a good choice. The ideas of the required proper governing, managing, and control methods choice optimization with respect to only 2 alternative objective effectiveness functions arguments might be simple; nevertheless, increasing the number of parameters and further complication of the problem setting will not change the principle of the problem solution.
Celem tej publikacji jest zbadanie wpływu obiektywnie istniejących funkcji skuteczności systemu kontroli statku powietrznego na proces kontroli i podejmowania decyzji zarządczych w ramach subiektywnej zasady maksymalnej entropii. Paradygmat entropii teorii subiektywnej umożliwia rozważenie systemu sterowania samolotem opartego na osobistych preferencjach jako systemu aktywnego zarządzanego przez jednostkę (aktywny element systemu sterowania) za pomocą jej indywidualnych preferencji subiektywnych, optymalnych rozkładów uzyskanych w warunkach operacyjnej multi-alternatywności i operacyjnych alternatyw niepewności subiektywnych indywidualnych preferencji elementu aktywnego systemu. Opisane podejście uwzględnia proste dwie alternatywne sytuacje operacyjne w odniesieniu do obiektywnie istniejących funkcji efektywności związanych z systemem sterowania statkiem powietrznym w świetle kontrolowanego parametru i jego kombinacji Uzyskane wyrażenia dla obiektywnych funkcjonalnych ekstremalnych funkcji skuteczności i preferencji, a także subiektywna entropia preferencji alternatyw, zilustrowane na schematach, pokazują sytuację i pozwalają na dokonanie dobrego wyboru. Pomysły dotyczące wymaganej właściwej optymalizacji metod zarządzania i kontroli w odniesieniu do tylko dwóch alternatywnych argumentów funkcji efektywności celu mogą być proste – niemniej jednak zwiększenie liczby parametrów i dalsze komplikowanie problemu nie zmieni zasady rozwiązania.

This paper presents the control designs for an autonomous forklift vehicle that drive the vehicle from an initial configuration to a final one. Three stabilization controls, which are chained-form time-varying control, sigma-transformed discontinuous control, and navigation-variables-based discontinuous control, for a forklift vehicle are compared by simulations. The sigma-transformed and navigation-variables-based discontinuous controls provide fast convergence motions from an initial to a final configuration, while the time-varying-based control provides oscillatory motion and slow convergence. The sigma-transformed discontinuous control has a set of discontinuous points in which, from a practical point of view, the control signals can blow up if a vehicle enters the set. The navigation-variables-based control, which also has a discontinuous point at the final configuration, does not produce blown up control signals since its boundedness nature. Discussion on the implementation of control algorithm is elucidated for the three stabilization controls for the forklift vehicle.

Growth prospects for ocean economy are promising because ocean industries are addressing challenges such as food security, energy security and climate change. However, safety and efficiency are the general challenges of ocean operations. Increased automation is believed to solve these problems. This paper discusses the impact of automation on safety and efficiency. A literature review of ‘Human factors’ mainly from the aviation and maritime industries is presented to untangle the human-machine relationship characteristics when increased automation is introduced to operators. A literature review of Hydrodynamics, Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) technologies is presented to introduce the state-of-art and associated limitations. It is concluded that, if the industry’s drive is safety and efficiency, then full-autonomy is, at present, not the way to go. Remote control, instead, could facilitate a feasible future, while focused research and development are in need.

Current maritime transportation and shipping is characterized by rapid technological developments effecting the basic concepts of operating ships and even changing traditional paradigms of controlling ships. The e-Navigation concept of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) specifically aims at more comprehensive and reliable support of the human operators on-board and ashore. However, autonomous unmanned ships remote controlled or even autonomously navigating are expected to come soon. In this paper, selected operational aspects of maritime traffic merging conventional and unmanned remote controlled ships in coastal areas are discussed. Furthermore, some preliminary results of experimental simulation studies into a future scenario of maritime traffic are presented and preliminary conclusions in respect to job profiling and training requirements are discussed.
