Opis:
Besides an abundant musical output, the rich legacy of Ludomir Michał Rogowski (1881-1954) also contains numerous writings, a special place among which is held by Muzyka przyszłości [The music of the future], written in 1919 and published three years later. In this work Rogowski asserted that the possibilities for composing music on the basis of the major, minor and chromatic scales were exhausted. He went on to propose an expansion of the repertoire of scales, giving two criteria for the choice of scales: ‘naturalness’ and ‘rhythmicity’. A ‘natural’ scale is one which can be read from the sequence of fifth steps of the twelve-note chromatic scale in equal temperament. The simplest example is the anhemitonic pentatonic scale. The concept of the renewal of tonal material is central to Muzyka przyszłości, but its author formulates an idea about the rhythmic essence of musical form as well. In his considerations on this subject, he proceeds from the nature-related phenomenon of symmetry. He treats the simplest symmetrical pattern, the ternary form ABA, as an elementary manifestation of rhythm expanded into form. References to nature also occur in Rogowski’s texts on national music. In this context, folk music represents such values connected with nature as simplicity, honesty and freshness; it is devoid of all artificiality or posture, free from all convention. In Rogowski’s musical output, a fascination with nature became a powerful source of inspiration, from which many symphonic works of a programmatic character emerged. The connection with nature and joy of life - the crucial values of Mediterranean culture - are conveyed by the music of Cortege de Dionysos and by the whole of composer’s oeuvre. Rogowski confirmed his belonging to the culture of the South not only with his music. When, in 1926, he left Warsaw for Dubrovnik, he confirmed it also with his life.

Opis:
Mass songs of Rev. Francis Walczyński are the continuation of this type, existing since the second half of 18th century. The composer took over the selected lyrics from the songs that was already in existence and gave them new melodies. Mass Songs in Walczyński’s works are cycles counting mostly from 9 to 6 parts. Text variants are few. The structure of texts based exclusively on strophic structure uses stanza with 8th, 7th, 6th and in one song 4-verses. They are predominantly heterosyllabic, bound by feminine perfect rhymes, intermittently alternating and less adherent. In terms of music, the Mass songs contained in the studied set of Fr. Walczyński presents two- and three‑part layout, based on the major‑minor harmonic function, a melodic form characterized by a wide range of ambitus, curved and wavy direction, and second intervals. All these features show the artistic value of the music work of Rev. Walczyński, which is a testimony of the religious musical culture of the Catholic Church in Poland in the 19th and in the early 20th centuries.
Walczyńskiego prezentują układy dwu- i trzyczęściowe, oparte o harmonikę dur‑moll, formę melodyczną cechującą się szerokim zakresem ambitusu, kierunkiem łukowym i falistym, interwałami sekundowymi. Wszystkie te cechy ukazują wartość artystyczną twórczości muzycznej ks. Walczyńskiego, będącej świadectwem religijnej kultury muzycznej Kościoła katolickiego w Polsce w XIX i w początkach XX w.

Opis:
The article explains how ideas, characters and images borrowed from literary works and of fine arts are represented in Liszt’s the piano works of (i.e. with the help of motives, themes and narrative strategies). I. The first level of analysis concerns the typology of basic elements in the new lisztian forms: A. Four types of musical motives or figures and their signifieds (semes). B. Sixteen types of musical themes with their signifieds (classemes). C. Considering the great parts or sections of a piece we discovered seven types with their signifieds (isotopies). II. The second level of analysis consists in the presentation of three types of narrative strategies. The narrative strategy would mean the conscious organization of concatenation of the above mentioned signifying elements. A. The “figurative strategy” refers to the formal variation [‘Formalvariation” in German] of onetheme, or of one “thematic complex” (theme introduced and followed by expressive describing motives or refrain), for example: Sposalizio. B. The “simple narrative strategy” consists in a succession of character variations [‘Charaktervariation’], i.e. variation in the musical genre, in the signified of one musical theme (for example: Vallee d’Obermanri). C. The “complex narrative strategy” describes the structures which combine sonata form, cyclical sonata in four movements and variation form. This strategy implies that a whole thematic complex (exposition) is submitted to different stages of the character variation (for example: Dante sonata, Sonata in B minor, 2nd Ballade in B minor, etc.).

Opis:
Salvatore Sciarrino (Palermo, 1947) began his career in the fervent climate of the six Settimane Internazionali Nuova Musica. Still very young he attracted the attention of the musical world, with his sonorous invention full of startling innovation that was to make him one of the protagonists of the contemporary musical panorama. Sciarrino is today the best-known and most performed Italian composer. His catalogue is a prodigiously large one, and his career is dotted with prestigious prizes and awards. Alchemically transmuting sound, finding new virginity in it has for fifty years been the objective of his music. Timbric experimentation is the goal of his virtuosity. The prevailing use of harmonic sounds and other subversive emission techniques make his sonorous material elusive, incorporeal, particularly close to noise: hence not sounds in the traditional sense, but ghosts and shades of sounds, systematically deprived of the attack and situated in a border zone between the being of the material and its not-being. The sound comes out changed by the osmotic relationship with silence: it is a mysterious epiphany, a “presence” that strives to appear on the surface, living and pulsating almost according to a physiology of its own. Hence it is a music of silences furrowed by minimal sound phenomena, for an “ecology of listening” - an antidote to the noise pollution of consumer society - able to clear perception, to sharpen auditory sensibility and to free the mind of stereotyped stimuli. His music is not concretized in intervallic relations and in harmonic-contrapuntal constructive logics, but in complex articulatory blocks which Sciarrino calls figures. Even though the structural use of timbre becomes a disruptive fact, which brings an upheaval to the perception of pitches and seems to burn up every linguistic residue, in thefigural articulation and in its perceptibility the composer finds a new logic and a new, infallible sense of form. Musical discourse proceeding through complex wholes is mirrored in Sciarrino’s peculiar composition method. For him the layout of a score in traditional notation is preceded by a graphic-visual project (which he calls “flow chart”) allowing synthetic control of the form and highlighting the relationship between construction and space. “Window form” had become a characteristic feature of his composition technique. With this term, borrowed from computer terminology, the composer indicates a formal procedure that mimics the intermittence of the human mind and that he considers typical of the modem and technological era. The gradual recovery of a new singing style is a central problem in his most recent production: psychotic and gasping utterance, messa di voce, glissandos, portamenti, slipping syllabification, incantatory and alienating reiterations avoid all danger of stylistic regression, shaping a new and personal monody, artificial and hallucinatory. The working-out of a personal singing style is Sciarrino’s main conquest in the last years. Hence his fundamental contribution to experiments in contemporary musical theatre and a particular flowering of vocal works that characterizes his most recent creative phase.

Opis:
The paper substantiates the relevance of the study of universal creative personality in the typological aspect and the need to involve in such study of psychological resources. The author described the main provisions of Alexei Leontiev’s activity theory of personality, because it most meets the needs of this study. The purpose of the paper is to reveal the methodological basis for the study of the universal creative personality. The researcher relies on the statement of A. Leontiev that the real basis of personality forms the system of its activities. Thus, she argues that in the study of the universal creative personality it is necessary to appreciate the development of personality activity, its specific types and forms and connections between them. The researcher chose the leading subject activity as the main criterion for the typology of the universal creative personality. She attracted to study William Stern’s concept of the psychological type and Nina Herasymova-Persydska’s musical type to determine the shape and quality of the universal creative personality. The author described the essence of the proposed typological approach and the conceptual- terminological apparatus of the study. In particular, she identified six simple types of universal creative personality – universal-composer, universal-performer, universalmusicologist, universal-public figure, universal-pedagogue and classical universal. According to O. Komenda, the universal creative personality combines at least three types of activities. The leading activity of musician is marked of large scale, duration, value in the eyes of the artist and his environment, the emergence of new types of activities and the restructuring of creative processes. In conclusion, the researcher described the method of typological analysis of the universal creative personality.
