Opis:
The article focuses on the influence of Wagnerian ideas on the concept of 19th-century Czech national opera. This can be partly explained by the fact that Czech culture was strongly connected with German culture. However, early Czech operas, and even some of Smetana’s, were quite influenced by the German singspiel — a genre with predominantly lyrical and comic elements. Their national character was manifested mainly by folk elements within the action and the music (countryside scenery, national dances, adaptations of folk melodies). The ideal of this type of national opera is Smetana’s The Bartered Bride. The same composer created a work that presents a completely different understanding of the national style and opera. In Libuše, he tried to use the Wagnerian idea of musical drama for transforming the concept of the Czech national opera. In the article, there are quotations of the composer’s statements about Libuše as a work that has a “unique importance in our [Czech] history”. Wagner’s influences are apparent on a few levels in this operatic work. The libretto is based on the mythical story about Queen Libuše, the legendary founder of Prague, and in the opera she is a symbol of the Czech nation. Wagnerian influences are found in the formal structure (unendliche Melodie), as well as in the musical language of Libuše. Smetana used a system of leitmotifs consequently, connecting them with the characters (Libuše, Přemysl) and ideas (motifs of the nation, motif of authority). Perhaps it was under the influence of the idea of Bühnenfestpiel that Smetana designed Libuše as a slavnostni zpěvohra for special celebrations in the life of the Czech nation.

Opis:
The essay focuses on Carlo Goldoni’s musical drama Il mondo alla roversa put on stage in 1759 in Moscow by the company of Giovanni Battista Locatelli. In particular, it investigates the reasons why the impresario adapted this satirical and misogynist comic opera in his repertoire and the transformations that the libretto underwent to fit into the socio-political context governed by women rulers.

Opis:
The article presents a wealth of musical phenomena in Tadeusz Miciński’s dramas. It attempts to characterize and systematize them on basis of such pieces as Kniaź Patiomkin, Noc rabinowa, W mrokach złotego pałacu, czyli Bazilissa Teofanu or Termopile polskie. Tadeusz Miciński predicted a significant share of the musical element in his dramas. He often precisely indicated, what kind of music should appear in them. The issue of music citations and references given by the Young Poland’s author directly or hidden, requir-ing identification is the main subject of discussion. Equally important seems to be the question of the function and importance of music in Miciński’s dramas as well as the problem of musical fascination and inspiration in the poet’s writing.

Music is one of the aural components of radio drama. The aim of this article is to de-scribe the function as well as the meaning of music in radio drama. Numerous examples used in this paper indicate a dual character of music in radio drama: on the one hand, it is created by a composer as original music, but on the other hand, it constitutes musical background in most radio plays. The paper takes its departure point in semiotic theory and research.

I begin this outline, dedicated to the music in Termopile polskie by Tadeusz Miciński, with a question regarding the author’s hearing, sensitivity and taste in music. I also consider the substantial importance of the playwright’s experience garnered from his sojourn in Leipzig and Dresden (e.g. fascination with Emil Jasques-Delcroze’s rhytmics and Adolphe Appia’s vision of theatre) in the use of music to create a modern mystery play. On the example of Termopile polskie. Misterium na tle życia i śmierci ks. Józefa Poniatowskiego I comment on the divergence between the spectacle’s musical layer and it’s storyline. I therefore seek to discover the proper place and character in the original dramatic con-cept. The article is completed with remarks concerning the use and importance of the musical component in creating a modern mystery play.

Opis:
Lesya Ukrainka created a version of Don Juan’s history in Ukrainian culture. The poet introduced in the drama the Dolores image who loves Don Juan. Dolores became a symbol of the love archetype in the art work. Vitaly Hubarenko’s work in great academic ballet genre is one of best artistic interpre-tations of this drama. Ballet style is an allusion to S. Prokofiev’s style. Dolores image gets characteristic by genres of lullaby and prayer. Tenderness of character is embodied by penetrating sound of violins in the high register. The transformation of love theme shows us another facet of the Dolores personality who committed a self-sacrifice act for the sake of a loved one. Dolores in the ballet represents the female essence of love as a creation, thus the term „Femin-personalism” is offered in this article. The understanding of the term is defined by analogy with the philosophy. P. Bowne, E. Mounier, N. Berdyaev and other thinkers have shown an archetype of personality as a person which has a divine source.

The author traces the establishment and the subsequent development of music pedagogy education in musical drama institutes and musical colleges in the early 20th century Ukraine. In particular, the author evaluates the training system for music teachers, describes training institutions in the Ukraine, analyzes the curricula of teacher’s training departments of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odessa musical drama institutes, and reviews the reorganization of the system of higher artistic education from the 1920’s to 1930’s. As a result of this reorganization, institutions offering majors in arts and music were divided into higher schools of music and art; institutes of music, drama and arts; comprehensive schools of music and art; and, colleges of music, drama and arts. The author reveals the goals set for the departments of early musical education in conservatories that were supposed to train highly qualified educators, specialists for different types of out-of-school activities (organization of concerts for children, management of musical work at children’s theatres and cinemas, organization of competitions etc.), and supervisors for teacher’s training at musical colleges.

Opis:
From the very beginning of his artistic career Oskar Kokoschka systematically used historical, literary and mythological persons, whose figures, being recognizable in culture, facilitated the expression of his own psychological states and life experiences. The young painter, familiar with the classic works of literature, was also fascinated by music. One of his most vivid musical memories mentioned in an interview after more than half a century, was connected with his visits at the Vienna opera horse where he hare heard concerts directed by Gustav Mahler. A an especially enduring memory was that of the performance of R. Wagner’s drama Tristan und Isolde. From that time on the story of the mythical couple of lovers dominated the artist’s imagination, and after his meeting with Gustav's widow, Alma Mahler, he was able to assume a personified figure involving all the three people. As a result Kokoschka and Alma's love affair was supposed to develop according to the historical and mythical scenario of the medieval, and originally Celtic, saga. The artist first played the role of a life-guardsman seeking the favor of the patron of the Vienna cultural elite, and also seeking the hand of the inaccessible „queen” left by the dead director, „the old king”. Having won her acceptance the painter was able to be in her good graces for some time as her lover. However, a tragic turnabout, and at the same time the end of the relation, was inevitably inscribed in the process, in which the „young pretender” Kokoschka, having entered the role of the king, next had to give way to the next candidate. Stages of this symbolic process can be seen in Kokoschka’s letters as well as in his literary and visual works from the period of his relationship with Alma Mahler in the years 1912-1915, when one compares the facts from the protagonists’ lives with, among others, the medieval versions of the Tristan legend and its version composed by Wagner.

Teksty dramatyzacji stanowią ważne źródło poznania liturgii oraz pomagają określić tradycję liturgiczno-muzyczną. Katalog ten poszerza Missale Paulinorum, zamieszczający mandatum.
Texts of liturgical drama are an important source of information about the liturgy and help specify a given liturgical musical tradition. This catalog expands Missale Paulinorum which features, e.g. mandatum. The conducted study provides evidence that the Pauline mandatum is convergent with the Franciscan one. Comparison of both texts evidences that the Franciscan edition was original and Missale Paulinorum from Jasna Góra was its expanded version. However, it cannot be excluded that the author of the book from Jasna Góra could have based on some other sources. Lack of musical notation in the Pauline codex hinders a more detailed research. Therefore, the conclusions are only fragmentary and require further study.
