The purpose of this article is to present the life and organ work of Bruno Stein. The preparation for teaching was very important in Prussia, as it somehow traced a path of development for young people not only willing to be teachers but also musicians in the future. Bruno Stein, when composing organ preludes, recognised this situation and simultaneously became a model teacher as well as a composer of reliable and solid artistic achievements. The crucial element constituting the core of this article is the analysis of the selected preludes for organ. Having taken these compositions into account, one can observe the artistic means that were used by the composer, explore their style and purpose. Apart from organ works, Bruno Stein composed many other vocal, instrumental and vocal-instrumental pieces.

In this study, music teachers’ exposure to sound was tested by measuring the A-weighted equivalent sound pressure level (SPL), the A-weighted maximum SPL and the C-weighted peak SPL. Measurements were taken prior to and after acoustic treatment in four rooms during classes of trumpet, saxophone, French horn, trombone and percussion instruments. Results showed that acoustic treatment affects the exposure of music teachers to sound. Daily noise exposure levels (LEX, 8 h) for all teachers exceeded a limit of 85 dB while teaching music lessons prior to room treatment. It was found that the LEX, 8 h values ranged from 85.8 to 91.6 dB. The highest A-weighted maximum SPL and C-weighted peak SPL that music teachers were exposed to were observed with percussion instruments (LAmax = 110.4 dB and LCpeak = 138.0 dB). After the treatments, daily noise exposure level decreased by an average of 5.8, 3.2, 3.0, 4.2 and 4.5 dB, respectively, for the classes of trumpet, saxophone, French horn, trombone and drums, and did not exceed 85 dB in any case.

Opis:
The article discusses the problem of creating an environment conducive to shaping the attitude of reflexivity of future music teachers. The work presents the achievements in this area by institutes in selected universities in Poland and Ukraine. The conditions for creating pedagogical self-sufficiency of students were the subject of consideration. The authors describe the essence of such concepts as “pedagogical self-efficacy”, “pedagogical reflection”, “evaluation environment” and their approximation in the process of increasing a teacher’s professionalism. They thus clarified the essence of the pedagogical effectiveness of their own educator–musicians and showed the place and role of the reflective and evaluation environment in the process of its formation.

The article presents the possibilities of using the didactic potential of information technologies by the teacher in music classes. It shows the importance of using a computer in the process of education. Computer suitability for teaching increases together with growing technical capacities to register textual, graphic, and sound information; store information; copy and present it; as well as facilitate communication between information users in local and global networks. Wskazuje na znaczenie zastosowania komputera w procesie edukacji, którego przydatność rośnie wraz z rosnącymi technicznymi możliwościami w zakresie rejestrowania informacji tekstowych, graficznych i dźwiękowych, ich przechowywania, sposobów prezentowania i powielania a także komunikowania się użytkowników komputerów w sieciach lokalnych i globalnych. W artykule przedstawiono także kompetencje informatyczno-medialne nauczyciela oraz wybrane oprogramowanie muzyczne.

In contemporary pedagogical discourse, a lot of attention is paid to the teacher — he is largely responsible not only for the level of his musical competences, but above all for the multidirectional development of the child in the period of development, which is characterized by a particular sensitivity to external stimulation. This article presents the determinants of a teacher’s responsibility in terms of knowledge of a child’s musical development and the current core curriculum. The results of the survey conducted among 47 PIE students innvestigated their perception of preschool and early school education teacher’s responsibility in the field of music education. The results of the study showed that the respondents are aware of the teacher’s responsibility in the field of music education and associate it with important issues distinguished by methodologists, among others with developing positive attitudes and interests in children.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to present and to discuss a specific model of self-similar cyclical practical piano learning in music teacher education. For this purpose, a spiral, hierarchical development model based on Bruner (1960/1977) and Kraler & Schratz (2012), didactically specified in Blum (2019), is implemented in the field of piano pedagogy. The findings will be used to infer measures for the teaching of practical piano in the context of initial music teacher education. From this, innovative longer-term perspectives are derived for the specific role and function of the “practical piano” within the framework of the further development and professionalisation of music teacher training.
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie i omówienie specyficznego modelu samopodobieństwa cyklicznej praktycznej nauki gry na fortepianie w kształceniu nauczycieli muzyki. W tym celu do pedagogiki fortepianu wdrożono spiralny, hierarchiczny model rozwoju oparty na ujęciu Brunera (1960/1977) i Kraler & Schratz (2012) a dydaktycznie sprecyzowanego przez Bluma (2019). Wyniki badań zostaną wykorzystane do opracowania środków dla nauczania praktycznego fortepianu w kontekście wstępnego kształcenia nauczycieli muzyki. Z tego wynikają innowacyjne, długoterminowe perspektywy dla specyficznej roli i funkcji „praktycznego fortepianu” w ramach dalszego rozwoju i profesjonalizacji kształcenia nauczycieli muzyki.

Opis:
Musical instrumental education in Poland is an autonomous type of education with specific goals, tasks and effects. The most characteristic didactic and educational situations include instrumental exams and competitions as well as instrumental lessons. Preparation for the implementation of these tasks requires consideration of two dimensions: musical and psychological, which form a holistic perspective of musical education. This holistic approach covers issues such as musical abilities, performance skills, artistic skills and musical achievements in the field of a specific musical dimension. On the other hand, the psychological dimension concerns physical, intellectual, emotional and social resources, attitudes, interests, needs, aspirations, self-esteem and others. The vocational training of a music school teacher includes in the area of: a) musical – qualifications and competences; b) psychological – self-reflection, personal resources, self-acceptance as a teacher; c) didactic – preparation for classes, adaptation of working methods to developmental age and student’s opportunities. The teacher’s psychopedagogical competences are knowledge and skills in relationship and communication with the student, motivational skills, help in mastering stage fright and pedagogical reflection.
Muzyczne kształcenie instrumentalne w Polsce to autonomiczny typ kształcenia, ze specyficznymi celami, zadaniami i efektami. Do najbardziej charakterystycznych sytuacji dydaktyczno-wychowawczych należą instrumentalne egzaminy, konkursy i przesłuchania oraz lekcje gry na instrumencie. Przygotowanie do realizacji tych zadań wymaga uwzględnienia dwóch wymiarów: muzycznego i psychologicznego, które tworzą holistyczną perspektywę kształcenia muzycznego. Owo całościowe podejście obejmuje w zakresie wymiaru specyficznie muzycznego takie zagadnienia, jak zdolności muzyczne, sprawności wykonawcze, umiejętności artystyczne i osiągnięcia muzyczne. Natomiast wymiar psychologiczny dotyczy dyspozycji ogólnych (fizycznych, intelektualnych, emocjonalnych i społecznych), postaw, zainteresowań, potrzeb, aspiracji, samooceny itd. Przygotowanie zawodowe nauczyciela szkoły muzycznej obejmuje w obszarze: a) muzycznym – kwalifikacje i kompetencje; b) psychologicznym – samopoznanie, autorefleksję, zasoby osobiste, akceptację siebie w roli pedagoga; c) dydaktycznym – przygotowanie do zajęć, dostosowanie metod pracy do wieku rozwojowego i możliwości ucznia. Wchodzące w skład ostatniego obszaru metodyczne kompetencje psychopedagogiczne nauczyciela w klasie instrumentalnej to wiedza i umiejętności z zakresu relacji i komunikacji z uczniem, umiejętności motywowania, pomocy w opanowaniu tremy i stresu oraz refleksji pedagogicznej.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in anxiety and distress in many populations. They particularly affected selected professional groups, e.g. teachers. Among the strategies for coping with anxiety and stress, interventions using music as a tool to reduce tension are showing promising results. For the purpose of this study, a therapeutic intervention protocol using various music-based activities was constructed. A pilot study was carried out to initially assess the effectiveness of the intervention, and – on the other hand – to check the feasibility of the proposed experiment in terms of methodology and practice. The study involved 13 participants (n = 13); a mixed study design with a triple-repeated measures was used (the GAD-7 Generalized Anxiety Questionnaire). The results were interpreted both in an individualized and experimental perspective, with a statistical analysis (ANOVA, Student’s t-test). They suggest that the original musical intervention contributed to the reduction of the level of anxiety in the time course. Due to the size of the sample and the pilot design of the study, the results should be treated with caution.
W czasie trwania pandemii COVID-19 odnotowano wzrost w zakresie doświadczanego lęku i stresu w wielu populacjach. W sposób szczególny dotknęły one wybranych grup zawodowych, w tym nauczycieli. Wśród strategii radzenia sobie z lękiem i stresem obiecujące rezultaty dają działania wykorzystujące muzykę jako narzędzie służące obniżeniu napięcia. Dla celów niniejszego badania skonstruowano protokół interwencji terapeutycznej wykorzystującej różne aktywności bazujące na muzyce. Przeprowadzono badanie pilotażowe, mające na celu z jednej strony wstępną ocenę skuteczności interwencji, z drugiej – sprawdzenie wykonalności proponowanego eksperymentu w wymiarze metodologicznym i praktycznym. W badaniu udział wzięło 13 uczestników (n=13); zastosowano mieszany schemat badania z trzykrotnie powtarzanym pomiarem (Kwestionariusz lęku uogólnionego GAD-7). Wyniki zinterpretowano zarówno w perspektywie indywidualizującej, jak i eksperymentalnej, z analizą statystyczną (ANOVA, test t-Studenta). Sugerują one, że autorska interwencja muzyczna przyczyniła się do zmniejszenia poziomu lęku w przebiegu czasowym. Ze względu na liczebność próby oraz pilotażowy charakter badania wyniki traktować należy z dużą dozą ostrożności.

Objectives Music educators are subjected to many physical and psychological stresses encountered in the workplace. These stresses could be counteracted by certain work-related behavior and experience patterns as personal resources to reduce the negative consequences of stress. The aim of the study was to determine the existing work-related behavioral and experiential patterns and the characteristics of the Work-Related Behavior and Experience Patterns (Arbeitsbezogenes Verhaltens- und Erlebensmuster – AVEM) questionnaire dimensions in the professional group of music educators according to age group. Material and Methods A total of 205 music educators (66.3% female) from various music schools in Germany participated in the online survey. The subjects were divided into 3 age groups (AG): AG I: ≤35 years, AG II: 36–45 years, AG III: ≥46 years. In addition to sociodemographic and occupational data, the standardized AVEM questionnaire was used according to Schaarschmidt and Fischer. The age and occupation-related data were evaluated in a correlation analysis with the expression of AVEM dimensions. Results A total of 71.4% of the music educators were ≥46 years old group. Another 12.8% belonged to AG II, and 15.8% belonged to AG III. The sex distribution in the 3 age groups was comparable (p = 0.261). The expression of all AVEM dimensions was within the reference range. The most pronounced dimension, with a stanine value of M±SD 5.2±2.15, was the willingness to spend. There was also no significant difference in the assignment to the 4 patterns in the 3 age groups (p = 0.669). Age showed a negative correlation with the experience of social support (ρ = –0.354). Conclusions The age-independent and high intervention-requiring expressions of the AVEM risk patterns A and B led to the recommendation of workplace prevention and health promotion measures. Therefore, it seems reasonable to promote appropriate stress management measures and resilience during studies.

Edukacja muzyczna małego dziecka musi uwzględniać problemy charakterystyczne dla tego okresu rozwojowego. Ważna jest historyczna perspektywa postrzegania dziecka i wynikające stąd działania wychowawcze. Różnice w ujmowaniu wychowania zaznaczają się w zakresie określania celu, a także relacji pomiędzy dorosłym a dzieckiem. Najważniejsze środowiska w rozwoju dziecka to rodzina i szkoła. W tym okresie szczególnie ważną rolę odgrywa nauczyciel, który jest dla dziecka wzorem osobowym. W dzisiejszym świecie, nie sprzyjającym kulturze wyższej, konieczne jest jak najwcześniejsze wprowadzanie dziecka w tę kulturę. Muzyka od dawna była włączana w edukację domową i szkolną, poczynając od dzieci najmłodszych i elementarnych stopni nauczania. W obecnych czasach dom i szkoła nie spełniają swoich funkcji w zakresie edukacji muzycznej. Nie ma jej lub jest niewłaściwie prowadzona, szczególnie w zintegrowanym nauczaniu początkowym. Władze szkolne nie doceniają znaczenia muzyki nie tylko w rozwoju muzycznym, ale także w rozwoju ogólnym dziecka. Na to miejsce weszły mass media ze swoją ofertą bardzo niekorzystną dla muzycznego rozwoju. Ważne jest rozbudzenie już w małych dzieciach potrzeb kulturalnych, które przekształcą się w wewnętrzną motywację uczestnictwa w kulturze. Ma to kluczowe znaczenia dla pokoleniowego przekazu wartości wyższych. Problemem wielkiej wagi jest przygotowanie odpowiednio wykształconych nauczycieli do edukacji muzycznej, których brakuje w sposób dramatyczny.
The music education of a small child must take into account problems characteristic for this development period. What is important is the historical perspective of child understanding and the consequent educational actions. Differences in the conceptualization of upbringing are seen in the area of defining goals and the adult-child relation. The most important environments in a child’s development are family and school. At this stage, teacher, who is a child’s personal role model, has a distinctively important role. Today’s world does not favor high culture. Therefore, it is essential to introduce child into it as early as it is possible. Music has been included into home and institutional education for years now, starting from the youngest children at their initial education stages. Nowadays, home and school do not fulfill their functions in the music education area. It does not take place at all or it is badly taught, mainly in the field of integrated primary education. School authorities do not value the importance of music not only in musical development, but generally in terms of the overall development of children. Music has been replaced by mass media, with their offer having adverse effect on musical development. It is important to arouse cultural needs in small children so they could develop their interior motivation to participate in culture in later life. It is crucial for the transfer of higher values between generations. Poland lacks properly trained and knowledgeable music education teachers, which is a grave problem.

Opis:
In Poland after the Second World War, the education of children became the central topic of interest of many educators who craved the Polish cultural and intellectual rebirth after war damages. During that time, the pedagogy of cultural and aesthetical upbringing (including music education) was particularly emphasized. The author presents the practical and theoretical research (conducted in Cracow) pertaining to early child development. They include: the establishment of the first network of musical pre-schools in Poland (the Cracow Curriculum and Methodical Concept) and numerous research publications. The author concludes the essay by offering new pedagogical directions in early education in the period of digitization in the 21st century.

Cel. Doniosłość bogatego muzycznie środowiska została wyeksponowana w wielu badaniach, które dotyczyły dzieci i wybitnych muzyków. Pominięci zostali w nich przyszli nauczyciele pedagogiki przedszkolnej i wczesnoszkolnej. Niniejsze badania stanowią zatem próbę udzielenia odpowiedzi na pytanie: jakie jest znaczenie muzyki w domach rodzinnych studentów pedagogiki przedszkolnej i wczesnoszkolnej? Materiały i metoda. Przebadano 91 studentek pedagogiki przedszkolnej i wczesnoszkolnej. W ramach sondażu diagnostycznego poproszono je o pisemne dokończenie zdania otwartego: „W moim domu rodzinnym muzyka…”. Narracje poddano analizie jakościowej. Wnioski. Badania pokazały m.in., że większość rodzin nie zapewnia bogatych doświadczeń muzycznych ani w zakresie wykonywania muzyki, ani w zakresie uczestnictwa w koncertach muzycznych. Funkcjonowanie muzyki w domu rodzinnym respondentek zostało w większości negatywnie ocenione przez dorosłe dzieci. Z tego względu w moim przekonaniu misją uniwersytetów kształcących pedagogów powinno być uświadamianie studentom, jak doniosłą rolę pełnią rodzice w rozwoju muzycznym dziecka.
Aim. The importance of a musically rich environment has been displayed in many studies concerning children and outstanding musicians. Future teachers of pre-school and early childhood education have been omitted. This research is therefore an attempt to answer the research question: what is the meaning of music for the families of preschool and early childhood students? Materials and methods. The study group consisted of 91 pre-school and early childhood students. The main research method was a diagnostic survey. The students were asked to complete the open sentence in writing: „In my family home, a music ...”. The narratives were analyzed qualitatively. Conclusion. Research has shown, among other things. that most families do not provide a rich musical experience, either in performing music or in attending music concerts. The functioning of music in the respondents’ family homes was mostly negatively assessed by adult children. For this reason, in my opinion, the mission of universities in educating teachers should be to make students aware of the importance of parents in the musical development of a child.
