Opis:
Given two n-tuples $a = (a_1,...,a_n)$ and $b = (b_1,...,b_n)$ of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space the question of when there exists an elementary operator E such that $Ea_j = b_j$ for all j =1,...,n, is studied. The analogous question for left multiplications (instead of elementary operators) is answered in any C*-algebra A, as a consequence of the characterization of closed left A-submodules in $A^n$.

Opis:
Connections between Hankel transforms of different order for $L^p$-functions are examined. Well known are the results of Guy [Guy] and Schindler [Sch]. Further relations result from projection formulae for Bessel functions of different order. Consequences for Hankel multipliers are exhibited and implications for radial Fourier multipliers on Euclidean spaces of different dimensions indicated.

Opis:
In [ABB] Asmar, Berkson and Bourgain prove that for a sequence ${ϕ_j}^∞_{j=1} $ of weak type (1, 1) multipliers in $ℝ^n$ and a function $k ∈ L^1(ℝ^n)$ the weak type (1,1) constant of the maximal operator associated with ${k⁎ϕ_j}_j$ is controlled by that of the maximal operator associated with ${ϕ_j}_j$. In [ABG] this theorem is extended to LCA groups with an extra hypothesis: the multipliers must be continuous. In this paper we prove a more general version of this last result without assuming the continuity of the multipliers. The proof arises after simplifying the one in [ABB] which becomes then extensible to LCA groups.

This paper deals with phase gratings working in the paraxial domain. The profile of the optimum-efficiency beam multiplier with an arbitrary number of output diffraction orders is derived in an analytic form by exploiting methods from the calculus of variation. The output beams may be equi-intense or with arbitrary distribution of power. Numerical examples are given for different values of the number of output beams.

Opis:
We obtain a sufficient condition on a B(H)-valued function φ for the operator $⨍ ↦ Γ_φ ⨍'(S)$ to be completely bounded on $H^∞ B(H)$; the Foiaş-Williams-Peller operator | S^t Γ_φ | R_φ = | | | 0 S | is then similar to a contraction. We show that if ⨍ : D → B(H) is a bounded analytic function for which $(1-r) ||⨍'(re^{iθ})||^2_{B(H)} rdrdθ$ and $(1-r) ||⨍"(re^{iθ})||_{B(H)} rdrdθ$ are Carleson measures, then ⨍ multiplies $(H^1c^1)'$ to itself. Such ⨍ form an algebra A, and when φ'∈ BMO(B(H)), the map $⨍ ↦ Γ_φ ⨍'(S)$ is bounded $A → B(H^2(H), L^2(H) ⊖ H^2(H))$. Thus we construct a functional calculus for operators of Foiaş-Williams-Peller type.

Development of market economies towards economies based on knowledge implies the construction of new long-term macroeconometric models. The structure and use of the long-term W8D model for Poland was shown. This is a complete model that explains production and the factors its growth including R&D and human capital and also final demand allowing for studies of potential disequilibria. It is closed by equations explaining prices, wages and financial flows. The simulation version is includes 235 equations, of which 111 are stochastic. It is used in long-term growth scenarios up to the year 2030.

Opis:
A general scheme based on a commutation relation is proposed to give rise to a definition of generalized Toeplitz operators on a Banach space. Under suitable conditions the existence of a symbol is proved and its continuation to algebras generated by generalized Toeplitz operators is constructed. A stability theorem for the point spectrum of an operator from generalized Toeplitz algebras is established; as examples one considers the standard and operator valued Toeplitz operators on weighted Hardy spaces and on spaces of functions (distributions) with weighted $l^p$ Fourier transforms.

Let $M_z$ be the operator of multiplication by z on a Banach space of functions analytic on a plane domain G. We say that $M_z$ is polynomially bounded if $∥M_p∥ ≤ C∥p∥_G$ for every polynomial p. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for $M_z$ to be polynomially bounded. We also characterize the finite-codimensional invariant subspaces and derive some spectral properties of the multiplication operator in case the underlying space is Hilbert.

Opis:
In the article we discuss a standard example of an optimization problem. In our problem we are optimizing the objective function, i.e. a consumer utility function with two variables representing quantities of two commodities denoted by x1 and x2. We consider the standard optimization problem in which we maximize the defined utility function subject to a budget constraint. More precisely, the problem is to choose quantities of two commodities 1st and 2nd, in order to maximize u(x1, x2) function subject to the budget constraint. The aim of the article is to present how we can exemplify and solve this kind of problems in a classroom. In the paper we suggest four methods of finding the solution. The first one is based on the graphical interpretation of the problem. Based on this we can get the approximate solution of the defined optimization problem. Then, we present an algebraic approach to find the optimum solution of the given problem. In the first method we use the budget constraint to transform the utility function of two variables into the function of one variable. The second algebraic method of achieving the solution is based on the second Goosen’s law, which is known as the law of marginal utility theory. In the third algebraic method applied to find the maximum of the utility function, we use the Lagrange multipliers. The text emphasizes the educational aspect of the theory of consumer choice.
