Opis:
One of the most innovative and widely prescribed strategies to manage and build upon the strength of the increasing diversity found in the classroom is the use of cooperative learning techniques. Because cooperative learning groups encourage ositive social interaction among students of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, they have great potential to facilitate the building of cross-ethnic friendships and to reduce racial stereotyping, discrimination, and prejudice. When students work cooperatively, they have the opportunity to judge each other on each other’s merits rather than stereotypes.

gap between social needs and multicultural teacher training.
Opis:
A contemporary teacher should represent a high level of consciousness about multicultural challenges involved in senses and meanings, social priorities, political and pedagogical ideas. At present, vocational preparation of disciples of education and their elder colleagues to cope with multicultural problems through intercultural education is weak or doesn’t exist at all. Multicultural courses or workshops that sometimes appear among educational propositions of professional development are rather valuable announcements of further, hopefully compulsory, activities. Today we pose questions about mission, or raison d’etre of our universities. We want to define educational aims and objectives, the range of university freedom or its dependence on business and economy. Neoliberal values, economical language, profits and losses, effectiveness, product and success, and finally business categories of thinking and acting (treating people) profoundly change university communities. Thus traditional university values are dragged out by tough rules of market game. In spite of that, students of pedagogical faculties should get special, deepened and humanistic training. It raises costs of education, but is the best investment for the future. One of the pedagogical areas which should play an important role in that process, is didactics. Organizational forms of education and learning-and-teaching methods are important elements of that pedagogical sub-discipline. The process of updating teachers’ training goes hand in hand with multicultural challenges. New methods, strategies, and shorter techniques, should be applied to correct present situation. That may entail some structural changes inside university’s order. Organizational forms, being influenced by new methods (like Storyline Method and Project Method) and approaches responding to new social problems (developing common abilities to live in multicultural societies) may get a new shape. Teachers need to feel free in applying various forms and methods to reach, in most natural ways for their pupils from different backgrounds, educational aims – aims which will develop each individual personality due to global and humanistic priorities.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to examine how university classroom environment changes with the arrival of foreign students, especially those who are participants of international exchange programmes. The learning environment is an important component of higher education, as adult students are often conscious learners, who want to learn and see the purpose in doing so; also, they are often self-conscious, especially in a foreign language class. A multi-cultural classroom can be a beneficial element of university education, for both the students and the teacher, as it provides an opportunity for students to share experiences and bring their insights to the learning process. Conversely, one of the challenges a university teacher faces is to find a way to actively involve all the students in the class, taking into account their various backgrounds, different language skills and learning experiences, styles and preferences. The article is designed specifically to examine the effects of student mobility on the learning environment and the challenges, costs and benefits of education in a multicultural class. It also presents recommendations to make the adult learning environment an effective one, especially when it comes to education in a multicultural environment and learning in a foreign language.

Opis:
The problem of increased migration and integration of migrant children in schools has become a serious challenge for Security Education, especially the question of how to teach increasingly varied groups of students and whether students that come from culturally contrasting groups differ in their preferred learning style. This study sets out to analyse how students of various cultural backgrounds approach learning tasks, which is of utmost importance nowadays given that modern schools face the challenge of educating culturally diverse students. To this end, the Approaches and Study Skills Inventory for Students (ASSIST) was administered to 450 Thai students in a Thai university. Th e correlation between the learning approaches and individual differences (age, GPA and major) was assessed. Then, the results of the study were compared with the results of similar studies carried out in different cultures. The results show that the students scoring higher on the deep approach have the highest academic performance, whereas the students who approach the learning material strategically achieve the lowest learning outcomes. Furthermore, the Thai students did not differ significantly from their western peers (Norwegian, Egyptian, Portuguese and British); however, their results differed from the students from China, who generally scored lower on all subscales of the ASSIST scores. Thus, the findings of the study prove that the integration of migrant children can be highly successful because both migrant and host society students adopt similar approaches and strategies that strive for academic excellence.

Opis:
The emergence in recent years of the concept of intercultural learning has raised questions about how the notion relates to a pedagogy that fosters openness, exploration, and critical thinking. In this article, the author provides a critical examination of a conventional understanding of intercultural learning to clarify its construction and to elucidate its instructional implications. Central to this alternative is a pedagogy that acknowledges students’ former experiences and competencies without making cultural predictions. Instead of reducing the process of understanding to a technical issue, this paper advocates the integration of intercultural learning in schools by connecting the curriculum to students’ lives and identities. This paper ends with a consideration of the future prospects of intercultural learning, suggesting more research on how intercultural learning actually takes place in schools and society.

Opis:
W części końcowej zostały zawarte najważniejsze wnioski i konkluzje dotyczące społeczeństwa wielokulturowego, szans i możliwości jego rozwoju w zglobalizowanym (przed)pandemicznym świecie.
The phenomena of multiculturality is one of the key determinants that create the modern world and multicultural relations based among others on the meeting with the Other. The main purpose of the considerations in the presented text is to point the way how epidemiological threat connected with the expansion of SarsCov2 virus has changed the perspective of preception of multiculturality and at the same time how it has determined (perhaps) the new thinking of the need of multicultural interactions. The author of the article appeals to both interdisciplinary literature subject and makes her own thoughts about the phenomena of multiculturality, presenting its meaning for the learning process. In the final part the most important conclusions and rethoughts about the multicultural society, chances and possibilities of its development in the globalised (before)pandemic world are contained.
