Opis:

Aim. The aim of the research is to justify the theoretical and methodological bases of multicultural education and verify experimentally the efficiency of the pedagogical technology of forming students’ multicultural competence at higher education institutions. Methods. The study reviews the changes in the levels of students’ multicultural competence. The methodological bases of the study are theories of language multicultural education, the unity of language and culture, multi-perspective learning, “cultural differences,” social learning, neo-Freudian theory, self-determination theory, developmental learning theory. Results. The realisation of the ideas of multiculturalism has a positive effect on the harmonious development, cultivates a tolerant attitude to other ethnic groups and peoples, promotes good neighbourly relations, effective conflict resolution, intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding. Acquiring these characteristics, students entirely understand national and universal values, and are able to interact constructively in the modern multicultural world at a sustainable level. Conclusions. The implementation of the developed pedagogical conditions and the author’s pedagogical technology of forming students’ multicultural competence at higher education institutions contributed to a significant increase in the levels of their multicultural competence. This was confirmed by statistical changes in the level of students’ multicultural competence of the experimental group compared to the control group: the number of students with stable (by 34,3%) and situational (by 12,7%) levels significantly increased, the number of students with fragmentary level decreased (by 47%). Thus, the obtained results prove that the developed pedagogical technology is effective for forming students’ multicultural competence.

Contemporary societies are all multicultural societies. One of the consequences of this fact is the necessity of transformation of educational systems in such a way that the systems will serve a multicultural society and its variety. Different standpoints in the subject of multicultural education are taken under consideration. Advocates of adjusting educational system to the conditions of multicultural society, among whom the voice of Will Kymlicka is outstanding, argue that each individual is firmly attached to her cultural group. In a way everybody is a member of cultural minority, because each individual refers to some values which are not shared by the majority. Multicultural education is necessary if we don't want to deprive the students of their essential cultural roots during the educational process. Against this background the opponent argument of Brian Barry is outlined. For Barry multicultural education doesn't help the individual to function in contemporary liberal society. The difficulties met by the individuals from the minority groups in universal educational systems are exaggerated according to Barry. The different views on the problem of multicultural education are caused by the different understanding of the foundations of human activity. The advocates of multicultural education are primary concerned of culture, values and social conditions of individual identity while their opponents put at the first place successful work of political community and concern for individual liberty.

The article concerns a particularly critical review of new threats of construction of a multicultural society. It was prepared by observation and study of transformations in societies Central and Eastern Europe. The article consists of three parts, which in turn has been presented the position of the author in the field of multicultural society, old previously raised the threat of multicultural society and six new more visible as a result of mass immigration to Europe. They are, in order: combining multiculturalism with liberal, leftist movements and activity of national minorities, ethnic nation-state as a real threat of multicultural society, low relevance of the cultural diversity of societies, binding multiculturalism with limiting citizens’ safety, treatment of multicultural society as a form of maintaining separatism cultural groups and fundamentalist ideologies.

The article discusses the role of multicultural education. The main objective was to outline the potential for multicultural education in kindergarten. The author focuses on the multicultural process in the contemporary world and the growing need for its implementation from an early age. In the study, the author analyses multicultural workshop events in one of Warsaw’s kindergartens – the International Kindergarten project organised by AIESEC. The author presents a workshop observation report and provides information on the organisational aspects of multicultural workshops. Important for the study were the interviews with the teachers participating in the International Kindergarten workshops, who expressed their attitudes towards multicultural education in pre-school education.

In this article I propose the term “Multicultural (un)employment”, which was created during the analysis of the situation in the multicultural Israeli labor market. First, I describe multiculturalism in Israel. Next, I discuss the Israeli labor market from a societal perspective. And then I characterized the Israeli labor market in view of the internal-group. The article is completed by the following conclusions. Statistics in Israel show low unemployment in a multicultural society but these statistics do not cover the groups which hardly participate in the labor market (Ultra-orthodox and Arabs). These groups are characterized by the cultural difference and high unemployment rate.

In this article I will try to bring the answer to the question whether Europe sooner or later become a multicultural society or societies. I distinguish the following stages of development of the society in terms of democratic: culturally diverse, pluralistic and multicultural. I assume that so far Europe is not a multicultural society, but pluralistic. On the basis of the indicators included in the definition of multiculturalism answer to the question of what conditions should be met to become a multicultural Europe. In conclusion, it is my position that Europe will reach a new form of a multicultural society constructed on the ground of national states and culturally diverse societies.

Zjawisko wielokulturowości jest jednym z kluczowych wyznaczników kreujących współczesny świat i relacje międzyludzkie, oparte między innymi na spotkaniu z Innym. Głównym celem rozważań w prezentowanym tekście jest ukazanie tego, w jaki sposób zagrożenie epidemiologiczne związane z rozprzestrzenianiem się wirusa SarsCov2 zmieniło perspektywę postrzegania wielokulturowości, a tym samym zdeterminowało (być może) nowe myślenie o potrzebie interakcji międzykulturowych. Autorka artykułu odwołuje się zarówno do interdyscyplinarnej literatury przedmiotu, jak i dokonuje własnych przemyśleń na temat zjawiska wielokulturowości, ukazując jej znaczenie dla procesu uczenia się międzykulturowego. W części końcowej zostały zawarte najważniejsze wnioski i konkluzje dotyczące społeczeństwa wielokulturowego, szans i możliwości jego rozwoju w zglobalizowanym (przed)pandemicznym świecie.
The phenomena of multiculturality is one of the key determinants that create the modern world and multicultural relations based among others on the meeting with the Other. The main purpose of the considerations in the presented text is to point the way how epidemiological threat connected with the expansion of SarsCov2 virus has changed the perspective of preception of multiculturality and at the same time how it has determined (perhaps) the new thinking of the need of multicultural interactions. The author of the article appeals to both interdisciplinary literature subject and makes her own thoughts about the phenomena of multiculturality, presenting its meaning for the learning process. In the final part the most important conclusions and rethoughts about the multicultural society, chances and possibilities of its development in the globalised (before)pandemic world are contained.

This article deals with the construction of the Jewish community's position in the contemporary structure of Białystok as a reviving multicultural city. In the past Białystok was a type of a multicultural city, at least in the customary understanding of this term. During World War II, in effect of the unimaginable genocide of Białystok's Jewish community, the city has been almost completely deprived of its diverse population. In the postwar period wider possibilities of reconstructing Białystok's culturally diverse past generally have not been created. It was not until the political transition that conditions for reviving the socio-cultural diversity of Białystok's inhabitants were developed. The process of reestablishing the presence of the Jewish community in the city's structure became visible and socially important. The position of the Jewish community in Białystok's structure will be presented in four dimensions: the spatial, the institutional, the social, and in the dimension of consciousness. Eventually, in reference to the process of constructing the Jewish community's position in the structure of Białystok, formation of Białystok as a multicultural city will be discussed.

The author draws attention to the challenges and tasks of intercultural education in the context of contemporary problems related to the implementation of the dilemmas and principles of multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is treated and analysed not only as the coexistence of different cultural groups in the same space, but primarily as an identity, ideological and educational phenomenon that allows to notice, point and deliver new strategies in intercultural education. The prospect of emancipation, polyphony, J. Tischner’s philosophy of dialogue, ethics of respect for life by A. Schweitzer, genetic law of cultural development by L. S. Vygotsky and the changes of countries functions from military-defensive and economic towards social and cultural, are the basics to formulate the strategies for intercultural education and the development of democratic multicultural societies. By referring to the twenty years of actions that have been undertaking by the Department of Intercultural Education at the University of Bialystok, the author indicates the diversity of educational and social practices of different nature at local, regional, national and international levels. These practices are based on considering in these activities the needs, expectations and aspirations of majority and minority groups about the right to preserve their own culture and the creation of rules of coexistence and shared responsibility for socio-cultural area that is culturally diverse.

Zadania realizowane w organizacjach często wymagają współpracy w zespołach składających się z przedstawicieli różnych kultur. Wzajemne oddziaływanie ludzi z odmiennych kultur jest naturalną konsekwencją procesu globalizacji. Wyzwania związane z wielokulturowością mogą stanowić zarówno o przewadze, jak i porażce zespołu. Do zalet zespołów wielokulturowych można zaliczyć uzyskanie większej liczby pomysłów oraz szerszej perspektywy. Z drugiej strony częstym problemem zespołów wielokulturowych jest brak zrozumienia dla innych kultur, co prowadzi do budowania dystansu oraz konfliktów. Zespoły złożone z przedstawicieli wielu narodowości wymagają zatem zrozumienia różnic kulturowych oraz wysokich kompetencji liderów takich zespołów, aby potrafili czerpać z różnorodności. Dlatego wybór odpowiedniego lidera jest jednym z kluczowych czynników. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie kompetencji kulturowych, przedstawienie zespołów wielokulturowych, wpływu zróżnicowania kulturowego oraz pozycji lidera na ich efektywność.
Tasks implemented in organizations often require collaboration in teams consisting of representatives of different cultures. The interpenetration and interaction of people of different cultures is a natural consequence of the globalization process. Challenges related to multiculturalism can result in both the advantage and the failure of the team. The advantages of multicultural teams include getting more ideas and a wider perspective. On the other hand, a common problem of multicultural teams is a lack of understanding for other cultures, which leads to building distance and conflicts. Therefore, teams of representatives of many nationalities require an understanding of cultural differences and high competences of leaders of such teams to be able to draw on diversity. That is why choosing the right leader is one of the key factors. The purpose of this article is to bring cultural competences closer, to present multicultural teams, the impact of cultural diversity and a leadership position on their effectiveness.

Opis:

World War II and its political consequences resulted in a demographic shift in Lower Silesia. It took place to an extent never before seen in any part of Europe. Due to international decisions concerning the changes of its borders, Lower Silesia was once again integrated with Poland. At the same time the German inhabitants living in the region were obliged to leave. Polish people replaced them coming from other parts of Poland as well as from former Polish territories which had been incorporated by the Soviet Union. The immigrants were influenced by the cultures of the places of their origin. They differed in almost every field of everyday life, so in their new towns they met people with various integrating capabilities, contrasting points of view, political preferences and attitudes.That phenomenon was understood as a coexistence of the representatives of at least two different cultures whose members perceive the differences between them. Prevalence of so many distinct cultures in one area and the influences they had on each other led to the creation of specific cultural and social relations among the groups and their members. The situation obliged the settlers to overcome their particular attitudes and competences to live and communicate with new neighbours. Significant historical processes had influenced in a noticeable way the lives of people from every single town and village in Lower Silesia. One example of the place chosen by the immigrants to Lower Silesia is Dobroszyce. The incoming people created from the very beginning a society which was supposed to live in multicultural reality.

He/she should also use appropriate methods that lead to pupils becoming more tolerant.

There is an increasing tendency for Polish women to travel to Egypt on holiday. They seem be driven by more than the need to sunbathe on an azure seashore. There is also the phenomenon of what is commonly denominated „sex tourism”. Egypt is said to be one of the main female sex tourism destinations of present times. The author of this paper was interested in the range of reasons for which young heterosexual Polish women have vacations in Egypt. She wanted to verify the relevance of the stereotype of the sexual motive of travelling to Egypt. She further sought to investigate what drove Polish women and Egyptian men to enter multicultural relationships.

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of multicultural-based digital comic media on the social care character of elementary school students. This study used a quantitative research approach with the type of Quasi Experiment. The trial involved 2 classes, namely IVA (control class) and IVB (experiment class) of Brajan State Elementary School, containing 20 students. The independent t-test shows a difference in social-caring character between students who use multicultural-based digital comic media during the learning process and those who do not use multicultural-based digital comic media, with a significance value (p) less than 0.05, which is 0.017. This study concludes that multicultural- based digital comic media is declared effective to be used to improve the social care character of grade IV elementary school students.

Opis:

The paper presents characteristic of international marriages in the South Korea based on the Vital Statistics data from Statistics Korea. According to data since the mid-1990s to 2005 international marriages between immigrant women and Korean men had increased from 1.6% to 13.6% of all marriages in the South Korea and cause particular attention as such phenomenon involves many social, economic and anthropological questions. From 2005 the number of international marriages have decreased, but still many men have problems to find a woman to get married because more and more women want to be well-educated and achieve successes in job. That situation led to international marriages where Korean men marry foreign women, especially from China, the Philippines, Vietnam and other countries. Many research results indicate that international marriages is a phenomenon among men who live in rural areas and poor foreign women who want to have better economic situation and decide to find a groom in the South Korea. The paper focus also on factors affecting international marriages and support for multicultural families in the South Korea.

It is the teacher’s responsibility to make the classroom culturally responsive. Children bring their own culture to the classroom with them. The teacher needs to make sure these influences are nurtured in a positive way. The current literature indicates that language, social interactions, and play are all influenced by a child’s culture. The author used the Kendell multicultural checklist to highlight key areas of the classroom that needed to be addressed in order to make the classroom more culturally responsive. A plan was developed and put into practice to better understand family cultures and to better teach the children about different cultures. A culturally responsive classroom is critical for families and children to feel safe and welcome in a positive learning environment away from home. In the United States, 25% of children are immigrants or come from immigrant families (Souto-Manning 2013). This makes it crucial for educators to learn how to have a positive and welcoming multicultural classroom environment. With over 75% of early childhood teachers being white and speaking only English, it makes it that much more important for them to learn about different cultures and set up a classroom ready to nurture a variety of cultures (Souto-Manning 2013).

The empirical part presents the methodology of the study and the results obtained, which are followed by conclusions and recommendations.The research described in the article (ten telephone interviews) was conducted with international companies among managers who work with culturally diverse teams. At this stage the research is preliminary, and the author intends to conduct an in-depth study among managers of multinational companies in Poland and Spain that will investigate the role of leadership in managing multicultural teams.The main aim of the article is to demonstrate the importance of leadership in managing multicultural teams. Considering this aim, the following research question was formulated: How do Polish managers employed in multinational companies define leadership and how do they perceive the role of leadership in managing multicultural teams?

The emergence in recent years of the concept of intercultural learning has raised questions about how the notion relates to a pedagogy that fosters openness, exploration, and critical thinking. In this article, the author provides a critical examination of a conventional understanding of intercultural learning to clarify its construction and to elucidate its instructional implications. Central to this alternative is a pedagogy that acknowledges students’ former experiences and competencies without making cultural predictions. Instead of reducing the process of understanding to a technical issue, this paper advocates the integration of intercultural learning in schools by connecting the curriculum to students’ lives and identities. This paper ends with a consideration of the future prospects of intercultural learning, suggesting more research on how intercultural learning actually takes place in schools and society.

W niniejszym artykule prezentuję przykłady literatury dziecięcej odnoszącej się do zjawiska imigracji i uchodźctwa. Można tutaj wskazać bajki, czytanki i opowiadania, stanowiące element projektów i programów edukacji międzykulturowej lub przypominające w swej treści „literaturę faktu”. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie roli tych publikacji w zwiększaniu poziomu wiedzy na temat zjawiska uchodźstwa, budzeniu świadomości problemów przeżywanych przez „Innego” ‒ uchodźcę, a także rozwijaniu prointegracyjnych postaw wobec członków grup mniejszościowych. Podjętą problematykę należy uznać za ważną, gdyż obecność uchodźców i imigrantów nie zawsze spotyka się z otwartością przedstawicieli kraju przyjmującego i może skutkować konfliktami na tle rasowym, etnicznym czy religijnym. Te niepokojące zjawiska wymagają pogłębionej refleksji dotyczącej problematyki postaw wobec członków opisywanych tu grup i próby znalezienia „środków zaradczych”. Szczególnie ważne wydaje się być podjęcie wychowawczych oddziaływań w stosunku do znajdujących się w szczególnie wrażliwej fazie rozwoju dzieci. Wykorzystanie takiej, jak opisana w artykule, literatury umożliwia zainicjowanie wspólnej refleksji nad znaczeniem i wartością dwukierunkowego dialogu oraz szans realizacji wspólnych celów w coraz bardziej różnicującym się świecie.
In this article I present examples of children’s literature related to the categories of immigration and refugee. I show examples of fairy tales, readings and storytelling, which are part of intercultural education projects and programs, and “non-fiction” books written for children. The purpose of the article is to indicate the role of these publications in enhancing knowledge about refugee status, raising awareness of the problems experienced by the “Refugee”, as well as developing an attitude of inclusion and tolerance towards minorities. The issues raised here should be considered important because the presence of refugees and immigrants is not always associated with the openness of citizens of the host country, resulting from racial, ethnic or religious conflicts. These disturbing phenomena require in-depth reflection on the issues of attitudes toward the members of the groups described here and the attempts to find “remediation”. It is particularly important to undertake parental interventions in relation to the key moments in children development. Literary texts provide opportunities for reflection on the importance and value of bilateral dialogue and the realization of common goals in a diversified world.

A part of the quality of nursing care is communication. Communication is social interaction in which knowingly or unknowingly transmit the information. It is conditioned not only the material and technical equipment, but also professional approach to patient nurse. Slovak Republic from the entry into the European Union annually recorded an increasing number of foreigners residing lawfully in its territory. Number of foreigners in Slovakia is increasing. At the forefront it is therefore increasingly multicultural receives care and communication. Communication is an everyday part of nurse ́s work and is essential to establish a relationship nurse - patient. Contact with foreigners, emphasis is placed on the importance of multicultural communication and communication skills of nurses, which should be followed when communicating with foreigners. For effective communication with foreigners need a deeper knowledge and understanding of their culture. Each patient must be understood individually to have the communication has benefited. The authors deals with specifics of communication in the treatment of patients / patient with the muslim religion. It is important to realize that the islamic religion has some differences from Christianity. To be a Muslim patient care effective, we must be aware of how islam affects the daily lives of Muslims. The best way to respect cultural traditions is a will for understanding and tolerance.

Hiszpania należy do tych państw europejskich, które charakteryzuje wysoki odsetek imi- grantów. Stanowi on dziś powyżej 12% populacji, a wskaźniki rozrodczości przybyszów są znacznie wyższe niż ludności rodowitej. Artykuł przedstawia etapy kształtowania się hiszpańskiego społeczeństwa imigranckiego, dane dotyczące imigracji, sondaże postaw ludności do przybyszów oraz badania imigrantów. Imigracja przesunęła się w Hiszpanii ku centrum dyskursu publicznego, podkreśla się konieczność podejmowania działań ułatwiających integrację imigrantów w oparciu o symboliczny wymóg poszanowania zarówno dla obyczajów goszczących, jak i obyczajów przybyszów. Stosunek do ludności przybyłej stanowi o pra- womocności pozycji politycznych, z oczekiwaniem wobec głównych graczy politycznych inicjowania pomocy imigrantom i budowania prodemokratycznych postaw. Z drugiej strony, w społeczeństwie oraz życiu publicznym obecne są postawy antyimigranckie, zwłaszcza wobec nasilenia się bezrobocia i dotykających Hiszpanię problemów gospodarczych.
The article is dedicated to the immigrational character of the Spanish society, with the official numbers of immigrants having already exceeded twelve percent of the total population. The author presents the reversal of the tendency from massive emigration to immigration, phases of the immigrational society, current data on immigration, research on problematization of immigration and attitudes in the society towards immigrants. Immigration has shifted towards the core of public discourse, numerous activities are undertaken in order to facilitate integration of immigrants into the society, accompanied by the symbolic requirement of respecting the customs of both the hosts and the newcomers. The attitude towards immigrants is at the core of legitimacy of political positions, the major actors are expected to declare democratic attitudes and be open to otherness, as well as to initiate actions for the benefit of immigrants. However, researchers also observe antidemocratic attitudes in the society and public life which enhance in the period of economic crisis and unemployment.

Because of the affections of globalization process and because of the changes in social-political situation in world, multicultural environment in Latvia is also changing. Latvia becomes more and more attractive for foreign citizens from Europe the same as for citizens from elsewhere, that choose to settle down here permanently or only for a period of time. That is considerable challenge for education and healthcare. Workers in field of medicine, and podologs as well, must guide their professional carreer development in mutable multicultural environment. That is why needs of joung specialists are changing too-with knowledge, skills and competencies necessary in proffession, specialists must develop creativity and critical thinking, insight of values and culture, humanism and citizenship, decision-making and problem- solving skills as well as entrepreneurial abilities and communication skills. In process of prepearing new podologs for work in multicultural environment more important becomes development of those personal attributes set, that are made of tact and diplomacy, as well as development of basic skill set, that includes learning skill and skill to make compromises, but career  management skill set development is characterized by ability to collaborate, ability to notice changes in working environment and ability to give support. The goal of this article is to describe, theoreticaly and empyricaly, the development of necessary carreer management skills for work in multicultural environment to new podologs.

Opis:

This study explored multicultural pedagogy in pre-school education and how it plays an important role in strengthening the social interactions among children. The Multicultural Pedagogy approach in teaching children has established the multi-ethnic (PERPADUAN/Unity) pre-school. It is a qualitative study with data drawn from observation and interview sessions aimed to identify strategies in nurturing social interaction among multi-ethnic children. Through purposive sampling, a teacher with twenty-five children and parents from various ethnicities were selected. This study revealed that practising multicultural pedagogy reflects the diversity of ethnics strengthening social interaction. The teacher exposed the children to the cultures of every ethnic group to ensure they have understood other cultures from different ethnicity. When the children are exposed to the elements of different cultures, a sense of acceptance and tolerance attitude can be fostered. This strategy nurtured national integration, encouraging interactions among multi-ethnic children, stimulating acceptance and tolerance between children and creating a school environment that reflects the diversity of ethnicities. Core multicultural elements have been found in the PERPADUAN/Unity School. Overall findings from the current study provide new evidence illustrating how multicultural pedagogy implemented strengthens social interaction in early childhood education.

Pokój to miejscowość położona w województwie opolskim. W XVIII w. wzniesiono tu książęce założenie rezydencjalne, Carlsruhe, w formie gwiaździstej kompozycji z centralnym placem, ogrodami i parkami. Miejscowość stała się ośrodkiem kultury i rzemiosła, a od XIX w. uzdrowiskiem. Rok 1945 i dokonane zniszczenia przerwały jej rozwój, a dawne Carlsruhe stało się wsią gminną Pokój. Współcześnie trzy cmentarze: ewangelicki, katolicki i żydowski stanowią świadectwo wielokulturowej przeszłości wsi Pokój. W artykule przedstawiono historię cmentarzy, scharakteryzowano ich kompozycje oraz lokalizacje w układzie wsi, zbadano stan zachowania oraz wskazano indywidualne walory estetyczne każdej nekropolii.
Pokój is a village located in the Opole voivodeship. In the 18th century a princely complex Carlsruhe was erected here, in the form of a radiant composition with a central square, gardens and parks. The place became a cultural and craft center, also a health spa since the 19th century. Destruction in 1945 interrupted this development, the former Carlsruhe became a commune village Pokój. At present three cemeteries: Evangelical, Catholic and Jewish constitute the evidence of a multicultural past of Pokój village. In the article the history of these cemeteries is presented, composition and location in the village’s layout characterized, their state of preservation studied and individual aesthetic values of each necropolis indicated.

Opis:

Cultural norms about parenting practices naturally influence the way children are raised. These norms impact the beliefs and values that a parent teaches their children, what behavior is given appropriate consideration and what methods are used to teach these values and behaviors. Due to cultural differences, more conflicts over parenting are expected in multicultural families. Conflict is an individual’s reaction to the perception that one’s own and another party’s current aspirations cannot be achieved simultaneously (Rubin, Pruitt, and Kim, 1994). The study aims to identify the main issues of conflicts by interviewing migrants from Africa and their Lithuanian spouses. Qualitative content analysis was used for data analysis. The research revealed the following objects of confl icts over parenting: (1) decision making; 2) child discipline; 3) child’s religious practices; 4) relations with extended family members. Ameliorating conflicts is possible if the spouses use effective communication, learn about culture and parenting, and seek professional help. Results emphasise that despite the cultural diversity, there are common parenting themes that emerge across cultures.

The article is devoted to the study of multicultural management in the context of its interaction with the societal system. The main attributes of culture, which affect the international business, are detected. External factors (for each element of the societal system) or a specific situation in a subsidiary (such as age or size) affects the results of a subsidiary and yields different results. Therefore, setting the same goals for a certain performance metric for each manager may not adequately assess its performance. There were characterized multicultural competence of a modern international manager. The key differences between MNCs and TNCs are revealed. Particular emphasis was put on the possibilities of using cultural differences within the global MNEs. The interactions of MNCs with elements of the societal system, positive results and negative consequences are analyzed. The economy itself today is multicultural. In fact, international management involves the planning, organization, management and control of employees and other resources to achieve organizational goals through unique multicultural and multinational boundaries.

The study presents an analysis of the communicative function of word in contemporary Indian poetry. With reference to Jerzy Smolicz’s concept of core values, it discusses several examples drawn from the poems of Ashok Vajpeyi with the aim at showing that, in the context of a multicultural and multilingual society, the language of contemporary Indian poems (in this case written in Hindi) not only remains in itself a core value, but it also becomes the prime carrier of axiological senses.

The Federal Theatre Project, which was established in 1935 to put unemployed Americans back to work after the Great Depression, and later employed over 10,000 people at its peak, financed one particularly original adaptation of Shakespeare: the “voodoo” Macbeth directed by Orson Welles in 1936. Debuting in Harlem with an all-black cast, the play’s setting resembled a Haiti-like island instead of ancient Scotland, and Welles also supplemented the witches with voodoo priestesses, sensing that the practice of voodoo was more relevant, if not more realistic, for a contemporary audience than early modern witchcraft. My essay will consider how the terms “national origins” and “originality” intersect in three distinct ways vis-a-vis this play: The Harlem locale for the premier, the Caribbean setting for the tragedy, and the federal funding for the production.

Organisational culture has been studied by researchers for decades. Their avid interest in this issue is primarily related to its considerable impact on various areas of organisational life and on a company’s relations with its environment. The importance of organisational culture is of particular relevance in multicultural work environments, in which managers’ daily work consists in dealing with employees from various national cultures and with multicultural teams pursuing a company’s goals. Organisational culture is directed at eliminating organisational behavioural ambiguity and promoting employees’ pro-effective behaviours, which seems particularly pertinent in case of a culturally diverse workforce. In the theoretical part of the article, the Authors define the term organisational culture, discuss the functions of this culture, and present the Cameron and Quinn competing values model, while in the research part, they describe the methodology of the study, report the results of the interviews, and draw the conclusions. The Authors conducted the interviews analysed in the article with the Polish, Spanish and Portuguese managers in 2022. The analysis of both the literature and the results of the study allowed them to demonstrate the importance of organisational culture in contemporary management, especially in the context of managing people in multicultural work environments.
Problematyka kultury organizacyjnej jest analizowana i badana przez naukowców od dekad. Duże zainteresowanie kulturą organizacyjną ma przede wszystkim związek z jej odziaływaniem na różne obszary życia organizacyjnego, a także relacje z otoczeniem. Znaczenie kultury organizacyjnej jest szczególnie ważne w wielokulturowym środowisku pracy, gdzie w codziennej pracy menedżerowie zarządzają pracownikami, którzy pochodzą z różnych kultur narodowych i funkcjonują w wielokulturowych zespołach, realizując cele firmy. Kultura organizacyjna służy przede wszystkim eliminowaniu organizacyjnej dwuznaczności zachowań i promuje proefektywne zachowania pracowników firmy, co w przypadku zróżnicowanych kulturowo pracowników jest szczególnie ważne. W artykule w części teoretycznej opisano termin kultura organizacyjna, przedstawiono funkcje kultury i model wartości konkurujących Camerona/Quinna. W części badawczej opisano metodologię, wyniki przeprowadzonych wywiadów oraz wnioski wynikające z badań. Wywiady analizowane w artykule zostały przeprowadzone przez autorki artykułu w roku 2022 wśród polskich, hiszpańskich i portugalskich menedżerów. Analiza literatury oraz wyniki badań pozwoliły na wykazanie istotnego znaczenia kultury organizacyjnej we współczesnym zarządzaniu, szczególnie w kontekście zarządzania ludźmi w wielokulturowym środowisku pracy.

In contemporary companies, the knowledge and experience of both employees and managers significantly influence decision-making, operational effectiveness, and strategy implementation, especially in conditions of the continuously increasing role played by international cooperation. Multiculturalism is not only a common feature of companies which operate in the global market but also increasingly a key factor when it comes to people management. Although cultural diversity can bring many positive effects, it can also be a source of a range of problems. Thus it is so important for managers of culturally diverse teams to understand the essence of multiculturalism, to be able to manage cultural diversity skilfully, and to endorse values and adhere to principles which are highly relevant in multicultural work environments. The study presented in the article (individual in-depth interviews) was conducted among managers from six European countries. The main aim of the study was to identify challenges posed by multicultural work environments based on the opinions of managers who work with multicultural teams. The theoretical part of the article explains the concept of multiculturalism and presents multiculturalism in the context of management in contemporary work environments. The empirical part discusses the results of the interviews and the resulting conclusions. Undoubtedly, multiculturalism poses numerous challenges to managers in the area of people management, and the results of the study have confirmed that managers face considerable challenges in multicultural work environments (especially in the areas regarding managers’ factual knowledge on and preparation for the management of teams, the level of their cultural intelligence, communication, and employee motivation).
We współczesnych przedsiębiorstwach, wiedza i doświadczenia pracowników i menedżerów, istotnie wpływają na podejmowane decyzje, skuteczność działania i realizację strategii, szczególnie w warunkach ciągle rosnącego znaczenia międzynarodowej współpracy. Wielokulturowość będąc dziś powszechnym atrybutem wielu firm działających na globalnym rynku, staje się też ważną determinantą zarządzania ludźmi. Różnorodność kulturowa może przynieść dużo pozytywnych efektów, ale także być przyczyną różnych problemów. Ważne jest więc rozumienia istoty wielokulturowości, umiejętne zarządzanie kulturową różnorodnością oraz przestrzeganie wartości i zasad ważnych w zróżnicowanych kulturowo zespołach. Badania opisywane w artykule (indywidualne wywiady pogłębione) zrealizowano wśród menedżerów z 6 krajów europejskich. Głównym celem artykułu jest zidentyfikowanie wyzwań w wielokulturowym środowisku pracy w oparciu o opinie menedżerów, którzy zarządzają wielokulturowymi zespołami. W części teoretycznej artykułu wyjaśniono pojęcie wielokulturowości i opisano wielokulturowość w kontekście zarządzania współczesnym środowiskiem pracy. W części empirycznej omówiono wyniki przeprowadzonych wywiadów i wynikające z nich wnioski. Wielokulturowość stawia dziś przed menedżerami liczne wyzwania w obszarze zarządzania ludźmi, i wyniki badania (wywiadów z europejskimi managerami) potwierdzają, że mierzą się on z istotnymi wyzwaniami w zarzadzaniu zespołami w wielokulturowym środowisku pracy (zwłaszcza w obszarach związanych z merytorycznym przygotowaniem menedżerów do zarządzania wielokulturowymi zespołami, poziomem inteligencji kulturowej menedżerów, komunikacją i motywowaniem pracowników).

Następnie charakteryzuję podzielony system szkół w Izraelu, na szkoły publiczne; publiczne o profilu religijnym; publiczne arabskie oraz niepubliczne – ale finansowane z pieniędzy państwowych – szkoły ultraortodoksyjne. Artykuł kończą ustalenia na temat konsekwencji funkcjonowania podzielonego szkolnictwa, a zwłaszcza szkół ultraortodoksyjnych i arabskich.
The paper presents the contrasts in the Israeli education. First part presents the legal basis of education in Israel – Compulsory Education Law (1949), State Education Law (1953), Council for Higher Education Law (1958), Special Education Law (1988), Students Rights Law (2000) and discussion on the structure of the education system. Next, compare four separate school system – public state schools, public religious state schools, public Arab schools and the “private” but publicly funded “ultra-orthodox” or Haredi schools. The paper ends findings about the contrasts in the Israeli education and the discussion on difficult situation of graduates of public Arab schools and Haredi schools.

Multicultural policy has recently been undergoing a marked crisis and is subject to wide criticism. In the light of recent terrorist attacks it is often highlighted that the reason for such situations might be too much openness towards foreigners. Most European countries are changing their immigration and integration policies limiting their social security and restricting the possibilities of an influx of immigrants. Sweden, which is perceived as one of the most open and tolerant states in Europe also faces new challenges concerning the future of its multicultural policy. The crisis in tolerance towards foreigners is quite visible and it is obvious that the social moods in this state are evolving. Therefore, the aim of the article is to analyze changes in the attitude towards Swedish immigration and its integration policy in the light of the attack on the Charlie Hebdo weekly offices.

Remains of settlements: of the Lusatian culture from the turn of the Bronze and the Iron Age; of the Przeworsk culture - the A2-A3 phases of earlier pre-Roman period; of the B2-C2 phases of the Wielbark culture were unearthed, as well as traces of habitation from the late Middle Ages and from the modern period. The most numerous and the most interesting were the objects of the Przeworsk culture, including 10 wells, and pottery with the features of the tradition of the Jastorf culture.

Opis:

The objective of this study is to present the opinions of Ukrainian secondary school students, living in a boarding school in Lublin, on their adaptation to the new environment while studying in Poland. The questionnaire method was used, which offered an insight into particular aspects of adaptation for their studying abroad, e.g., coping with being parted from their family, managing free time, adjusting to the new educational environment, viewing the Polish society, as well as observing differences and similarities between the Polish and Ukrainian culture. The collected data point to a need to intensify educational activity promoting the space of mutual understanding between the citizens of the neighbouring countries. The problems revealed in this study show that the educational migration of Ukrainian students to Poland requires implementing a long-term and systemic educational policy that would shape multicultural competence of the Polish society.

Opis:

The purpose of this study was to confirm the construct of the multicultural and local wisdom character research instrument of early childhood. Respondents were 430 early children. Data analysis using the CFA approach. The results showed that the four conceptual dimensions of character were empirically proven to group into four dimensions. Each dimension is corrected for sub dimensions and indicators based on the loading factor score criteria, cronbach alpha reliability, rho-A score, composite reliability > 0.70, average variance extracted > 0.50. There are 29 indicators that meet valid, reliable criteria and fit model.

Globalization and migration are now common. Internationally, societies are changing economically, culturally, and demographically. Greek society is becoming multicultural, causing many issues such as cultural diversity and the integration of new cultures. Education is affected by population changes and must manage multiculturalism. Interpersonal, social, and emotional interactions, relationships, and experiences occur in modern schools. Intercultural education is used in the multicultural school environment to encourage respect and eliminate preconceptions. School violence, aggression, and bullying are on the rise. It is a social phenomenon that affects more and more students. In this paper, school bullying, its relationship to student ethnocultural diversity, and its management are studied. The conclusion is that school bullying and violence must be prevented and treated systematically; to this end, teacher training, the school’s program, and parent–child relationships should also be addressed.

Nowadays, we do not consider concepts from a single point of view but with an interdisciplinary approach. Researchers working in different domains treat concepts from multiple perspectives by cooperating in a scientific discipline. Educational sciences, like other areas of science, have adopted this interdisciplinary approach. Intercultural education and multicultural education is one of the best applications of the interdisciplinary approach in the domain of education. Erasmus exchange programme has particularly contributed to cross-cultural education. This study aims at analyzing studies that have investigated these contributions. We think that cross- and multicultural studies from different countries are important to have a clear and comprehensive vision. To this end, we reviewed studies in literature examining the effects of Erasmus exchange programme on cross-cultural education. We interpreted the results of these studies by qualitative research techniques and made suggestions for further studies. Consequently, it is a clear fact that exchange programmes are useful and students have a chance to communicate interculturally.
We współczesnym podejściu do koncepcji edukacyjnych uwzględnia się różnorodne aspekty interdyscyplinarne. Naukowcy działający w różnych dziedzinach rozważają koncepcje edukacyjne na wielu płaszczyznach, współpracując w ramach swojej dziedziny nauki. Pedagogika, podobnie jak inne obszary nauki, również dostosowuje się do tych trendów. Edukacja międzykulturowa jest jednym z najlepszych rozwiązań w ramach interdyscyplinarnego podejścia do edukacji, a program wymiany studentów Erasmus szczególnie przyczynia się do jej rozwoju. W artykule zaprezentowano badania wpływu wymiany międzynarodowej w ramach programu Erasmus na edukację. Badania obejmowały różne kraje uczestniczące w programie, co miało ukazać rzetelny obraz badanej dziedziny. W tym celu analizie poddano dostępną literaturę, stosując odpowiednie techniki badania jakości, zinterpretowano wyniki oraz sformułowano wnioski i sugestie odnośnie do dalszych badań. Rezultat końcowy potwierdził, że programy wymiany studentów mają ogromny wpływ na edukację międzykulturową oraz dają możliwość międzynarodowej komunikacji interkulturowej studentów z różnych krajów.

Opis:

This article concentrates on a new understanding of multicultural societies which emerges from routine interaction between recent and established individuals in various urban spaces. The question of the actual interaction with multicultural population has been largely overlooked in research on Polish migration. Therefore, by exploring the notions of conviviality and convivial cultures, this paper demonstrates how post-2004 Polish presence increasingly affects everyday relations with the local population in both Manchester and Barcelona. The research findings, mainly from the narrative interviews with Polish migrant women, shed light on how convivial cultures emerge and how cultural identities are negotiated in everyday encounters in various spaces of the city, including organisational niches, neighbourhoods, family spaces, schools and colleges, and workplaces. Convivial experiences of Polish migrant women with multicultural population are characterised by constant transformation of multiple identities shaped by personal biographies, experiences of gender and other social categories, which are often shared with other groups and individuals.
