The issue of coordinated operation of multi-vehicle for a variety of tasks is getting increasing attention day by day and standing as a major research field due to their increased capacity and flexibility they can offer as a team. This paper presents a novel algorithm for multi-vehicle navigation, based on exhaustive search to avoid a set of randomly generated obstacles, predict the approximate position of other vehicles and thus keeping a safe distance to avoid collision and to maintain a formation amongst them while targeted towards the assigned goals. The proposed algorithm uses two optimizing functions in deriving drive commands, direction and turning, for a troop of vehicles. This particular algorithm is similar to the artificial potential field (APF) method which is widely used for autonomous mobile robot path planning due to its simplicity and mathematical elegance. In this work we have taken a behavior based reactive scheme together with artificially generated perturbation as the vehicles are running in a real time environment. Simulations have been carried out for a group of four vehicles, paired in two groups, approaching two different targets avoiding eight randomly generated obstacles, and keeping proper coordination between the members of intra and inter groups. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been shown by some simulation results.

Opis:
A path planning problem for a heterogeneous vehicle is considered. Such a vehicle consists of two parts which have the ability to move individually, but one of them has a shorter range and is therefore required to keep in a close distance to the main vehicle. The objective is to devise an optimal path of minimal length under the condition that at least one part of the heterogeneous system visits all desired waypoints exactly once. Two versions of the problem are considered. One assumes that the order in which the waypoints are visited is known a priori. In such a case we show that the optimal path can be found by solving a mixed-integer second-order cone problem. The second version assumes that the order in which the waypoints are visited is not known a priori, but can be optimized so as to shorten the length of the path. Two approaches to solve this problem are presented and evaluated with respect to computational complexity.

The article discusses the specific functional features, from the perspective of the innovative construction solutions applied to the multifunctional special-task vehicle "FUNTER". The vehicle described in the article bases on a space frame, developed at the Automotive Industry Institute (PIMOT), featuring the required stiffness verified with use of the finite element method (FEM).

The methodology of research and the inspection of the main transmission gearboxes of multi axles armoured vehicle ROSOMAK under operating conditions are described in this article. Tests are carried out on the bench to allow force transmission changes to the extent similar to the loads that occur during vehicle operation. Transmission gear boxes are driven by an internal combustion engine 359 through a reducer (standard engine gearbox). This reducer increase torque and decrease shaft speed similar to condition in the vehicle. On the other side of the transmission, multiplying gearbox coupled with a brake dynamometer were placed. It increases speed according to requirements of the work field of the dynamometer W-230. The combustion engine made possible to measure vibration of transmission gearboxes under the high torque. The torque is greater than obtainable by using electric motors. The value of the inertia moment loading axle shaft was determined using a simplified kinematic diagram. During the tests, vibration were measured at selected points of the housing using different methods of attachment of vibration transducers. First, the screw for assembling the vibration sensor was glued to the hull of gearbox. Second, the sensor was connected with gearbox by permanent magnets. Third, the sensor was used as a hand probe. The results of vibration measured by these methods were compared. Temperature of the gearbox was also measured by using thermocouples and thermovision methods. Selected results are presented and analysed of vibration transmission and its temperature at selected working conditions.

With vast range of applications in real life situations, the Vehicle Routing Problems (VRPs) have been the subject of countless studies since the late 1950s. However, a more realistic version of the classical VRP, where the distribution of goods is done from several depots is the Multi-Depot Vehicle Routing Problem (MDVRP), which has been the central attraction of recent researches. The objective of this problem is to find the routes for vehicles to serve all the customers at a minimal cost in terms of the number of routes and the total distance travelled without violating the capacity and travel time constraints of the vehicles, and it is handled with a variety of assumptions and constraints in the existing literature. This survey reviews the current status of the MDVRP and discuss the future direction regarding this problem.

Opis:
Vehicles route planning in large transportation companies, where drivers are workers, usually takes place on the basis of experience or intuition of the employees. Because of the cost and environmental protection, it is important to save fuel, thus planning routes in an optimal way. In this article an example of the problem is presented solving delivery vans route planning taking into account the distance and travel time within the constraints of vehicle capacities, restrictions on working time of drivers and having varying degrees of movement. An artificial immune system was used for the calculations.
Planowanie tras samochodów dostawczych w dużych firmach transportowych, w których kierowcy są pracownikami najemnymi, najczęściej odbywa się na podstawie doświadczeń lub intuicji pracowników. Ze względu na koszty i na ochronę środowiska ważne jest oszczędzanie paliwa, a więc układanie tras w sposób optymalny. W artykule rozwiązano przykładowy problem planowania trasy samochodów dostawczych ze względu na długość drogi i czas przejazdu przy ograniczeniach ładowności pojazdów, ograniczeniach czasu pracy kierowców i przy uwzględnieniu zmiennego natężenia ruchu. W obliczeniach zastosowano sztuczny system immunologiczny.

W pracy opisano zagrożenia wieloosiowych pojazdów specjalnych w działaniach wojennych oraz w ramach misji pokojowych i stabilizacyjnych. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na zagrożenia wynikające z tzw. naziemnej wojny minowej oraz z realizacji zadań patrolowo – interwencyjnych. Przedstawiono założenia przyjęte do budowy modelu matematycznego obiektu badań oraz modelu obciążenia wybuchem. Model obiektu badań zbudowano przy wykorzystaniu metody elementów skończonych. Modele zweryfikowano w oparciu o rezultaty własnych badań eksperymentalnych. Badania konstrukcji pojazdu specjalnego zrealizowano dla wybranych, najczęściej spotykanych przypadków oddziaływań improwizowanych ładunków wybuchowych. Zaprezentowana metodyka badań pozwala na wielowariantowe analizowanie konstrukcji nadwozi i struktur nośnych pojazdów specjalnych obciążonych oddziaływaniem powybuchowych fal uderzeniowych.
In the paper there were described threats to multi-axle special-purpose vehicles in combat environment as well as within the confines of peace and stabilization missions. Into particular account was taken threats resulting from either so-called ground mine war or realization of patrol and intervention tasks. There were presented assumptions accepted in the process of creating mathematical model of the object and also the model of the blast load. Both models were built using finite elements method. Verification was accomplished based on the results of our own experimental tests. Testing the model of the vehicle structure was realized for most often encountered cases of improvised explosives applications. Presented methodology of research empowers to multivariate analysis of body structure as well as carrier chassis of specialized vehicles under the influence of explosive shock wave loads.

Artykuł przedstawia analizę zwrotności pojazdu kołowego czteroosiowego o różnej konfiguracji kół kierowanych i niekierowanych. Zastosowano model Ackermanna, a więc pominięto kąty bocznego znoszenia kół jezdnych, co jest uzasadnione ograniczeniem zakresu prędkości pojazdu do przedziału 0-20 km/h. W obliczeniach wykorzystano także wersję motocyklową modelu, co uprościło niezbędne zależności matematyczne. Jako miarę zwrotności przyjęto najmniejsze możliwe wartości zewnętrznego i wewnętrznego promienia skrętu oraz szerokość skrętu. Obliczenia wykonano dla danych modelu odpowiadających samochodowi Mercedes Benz Actros 4148 AK. Wskazano najbardziej korzystne i niekorzystne konfiguracje kół kierowanych i niekierowanych. Tekst artykułu wzbogacono materiałem ilustracyjnym.
The article presents an analysis of a four-axle vehicle maneuverability with different configurations of steered wheels. A model of Ackermann was applied and therefore omitted the lateral slip angles of wheels, which is a reasonable limitation of the speed range of the vehicle to 0-20 km/h The calculations used a version of the motorcycle model, which simplified the necessary mathematical relationships. As far as maneuverability adopted the smallest possible value of the external and internal turning radius and a 90 deg turn width. The calculations were performed for the data corresponding to the model of truck Mercedes Benz Actros 4148 AK. Indicated the most favorable and unfavorable configurations of steered wheels. The text of article is enriched by illustrative material.

The article presents an universal rail-road tractor of the third generation made on the basis of tractor CLAAS ARION 620. The structure of the tractor construction, technical and operating parameters as well as the installed devices giving it the features of multi-purpose vehicle intended for riding along the wheel road and railway tracks of normal gauge 1435 mm and wide tracks of 1520 mm are also presented.

This paper deals with some computational study of multi-criteria optimization in fuel distribution problem. We consider vehicle routing problem, e.g. routing of a fleet of tank trucks, for one of the famous polish petroleum companies. For the purpose of solving this problem, we developed the random search algorithm, which explores the broad range of feasible sets of routes and searches for non-dominated multi-criteria solutions. The problem is examined on real data, which contains distances between 50 petrol stations and one central warehouse (refinery). Obtained results indicate, that it is possible to obtain single solution and satisfy both optimization criteria. Based on the analysis of the collected data, we formulate a number of proposals useful in future for construction of algorithms for multi-criteria fuel distribution optimization.

Vehicle delay and stops at intersections are considered targets for optimizing signal timing for an isolated intersection to overcome the limitations of the linear combination and single objective optimization method. A multi-objective optimization model of a fixed-time signal control parameter of unsaturated intersections is proposed under the constraint of the saturation level of approach and signal time range. The signal cycle and green time length of each phase were considered decision variables, and a non-dominated sorting artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm was used to solve the multi-objective optimization model. A typical intersection in Lanzhou City was used for the case study. Experimental results showed that a single-objective optimization method degrades other objectives when the optimized objective reaches an optimal value. Moreover, a reasonable balance of vehicle delay and stops must be achieved to flexibly adjust the signal cycle in a reasonable range. The convergence is better in the non-dominated sorting ABC algorithm than in non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II, Webster timing, and weighted combination methods. The proposed algorithm can solve the Pareto front of a multi-objective problem, thereby improving the vehicle delay and stops simultaneously.

The idea of a new evolutionary algorithm with memory aspect included is proposed to find multiobjective optimized solution of vehicle routing problem with time windows. This algorithm uses population of agents that individually search for optimal solutions. The agent memory incorporates the process of learning from the experience of each individual agent as well as from the experience of the population. This algorithm uses crossover operation to define agents evolution. In the paper we choose as a base the Best Cost Route Crossover (BCRC) operator. This operator is well suited for VPRTW problems. However it does not treat both of parent symmetrically what is not natural for general evolutionary processes. The part of the paper is devoted to find an extension of the BCRC operator in order to improve inheritance of chromosomes from both of parents. Thus, the proposed evolutionary algorithm is implemented with use of two crossover operators: BCRC and its extended-modified version. We analyze the results obtained from both versions applied to Solomon’s and Gehring & Homberger instances. We conclude that the proposed method with modified version of BCRC operator gives statistically better results than those obtained using original BCRC. It seems that evolutionary algorithm with memory and modification of Best Cost Route Crossover Operator lead to very promising results when compared to the ones presented in the literature.

The article presents a method of selecting a fleet of vehicles with a homogeneous structure for tasks based on the statistical characteristics of their operational parameters. The selection of a vehicle fleet for tasks is one of the stages of vehicle fleet management in transport companies. The selection of a vehicle fleet for tasks has been defined as the allocation of a vehicle model to a given company, which is associated with the unification of the vehicle fleet to one specific type. The problem of selecting a fleet of vehicles has been presented in a multi-criteria approach. The operational parameters assessing the selection of vehicles for the tasks are mileage and the number of days to the first and subsequent failure, and vehicle maintenance costs. The developed method of selecting a fleet of vehicles for the tasks consists of two stages. In the first stage, the average operating parameter values are determined using statistical inference. In the second stage, using the MAJA method, a unified model of the fleet of vehicles operating in the enterprise is established.

The analysed permanent magnet disc motor (PMDM) is used for direct wheel drive in an electric vehicle. Therefore there are several objectives that could be tackled in the design procedure, such as an increased efficiency, reduced iron weight, reduced copper weight or reduced weight of the permanent magnets (reduced rotor weight). In this paper the optimal design of PMDM using a multi-objective genetic algorithm optimisation procedure is performed. A comparative analysis of the optimal motor solution and its parameters in relation to the prototype is presented.

This paper describes a new approach and methodology of quantitative assessment of the fault tolerance of electric power drive consisting of the multi-phase traction electric motor and multilevel electric inverter. It is suggested to consider such traction drive as a system with several degraded states. As a comprehensive parameter for evaluating of the fault tolerance, it is proposed to use the criterion of degree of the fault tolerance. For the approbation of the proposed method, the authors carried out research and obtained results of its practical application for evaluating the fault tolerance of the power train of an electrical helicopter.

This paper presents a novel sideslip angle estimator based on the pseudo-multi-sensor fusion method. The kinematics-based and dynamics-based sideslip angle estimators are designed for sideslip angle estimation. Also, considering the influence of ill-conditioned matrix and model uncertainty, a novel sideslip angle estimator is proposed based on the wheel speed coupling relationship using a modified recursive least squares algorithm. In order to integrate the advantages of above three sideslip angle estimators, drawing lessons from the multisensory information fusion technology, a novel thinking of sideslip angle estimator design is presented through information fusion of pseudo-multi-sensors. Simulations and experiments were carried out, and effectiveness of the proposed estimation method was verified.

The aim of this paper was to determine the differences in the designed and manufactured model of a suspension. A set of key parameters was compared, including camber and toe in angles and their change w.r.t wheel travel, as well as the motion ratio. It also focused on the possibility of accurately determining the suspension system kinematics using affordable measuring devices available on the market. First, the design process, main goals and project assumptions were briefly described. Next, the CAD model and manufacturing process was presented. Finally, the measurements of both computer and real model were performed. The obtained results were compared and a significant difference between models was observed. The reason of such variation could not be determined unambiguously, as there were numerous factors that could potentially influence the results. Moreover, it was proven that accurate determination of kinematics is impossible using the given set of measuring devices.

The degree of emission limitation achieved through improved efficiency of combustion engine vehicles can no longer set off additional emissions caused by increasing traffic activity. As the restriction of greenhouse gas emissions from cars is expected to be particularly difficult, the air pollution and excessive dependence of road transportation on oil cannot be improved without the implementation of new mobility concepts (biofuels, hybrid drives, electric vehicles). The lack of these concepts, as emphasized in the White Paper, will preserve transportation dependence on crude oil so deeply that only 10% of energy will be derived from renewable sources. According to this scenario, until 2050 the CO2 emissions in the transportation sector will increase by one-third compared to 1990. Moreover, there will be an increase in the costs of traffic congestion until 2050 by ca. 50%. The difference in the availability between central and peripheral areas and social costs of accidents and noise pollution will increase as well (EC, 2011). The goal of the paper is to determine whether the implementation of a new solution would actually improve the situation of air pollution, traffic noise, etc. To this end, the paper proposes a comparative analysis of cars with various sources of energy using a multi-criteria scoring method. Notably, this method has never been used in such a confrontation before. Until now, the multi-criteria assessment methods have been used i.a. to evaluate implementation variants for infrastructural investment projects in rail transport (Jacyna and Wasiak, 2007), traffic flow distribution (Jacyna and Merkisz, 2014; Wasiak et al., 2017), supply chain efficiency (Jacyna-Gołda et al., 2018), effectiveness of vehicle allocation for tasks in supply chains (Jacyna-Gołda et al., 2017), etc.

The complexity and dynamics in groupage traffic require flexible, efficient, and adaptive planning and control processes. The general problem of allocating orders to vehicles can be mapped into the Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP). However, in practical applications additional requirements complicate the dispatching processes and require a proactive and reactive system behavior. To enable automated dispatching processes, this article presents a multiagent system where the decision making is shifted to autonomous, interacting, intelligent agents. Beside the communication protocols and the agent architecture, the focus is on the individual decision making of the agents which meets the specific requirements in groupage traffic. To evaluate the approach we apply multiagent-based simulation and model several scenarios of real world infrastructures with orders provided by our industrial partner. Moreover, a case study is conducted which covers the autonomous groupage traffic in the current processes of our industrial parter. The results reveal that agent-based dispatching meets the sophisticated requirements of groupage traffic. Furthermore, the decision making supports the combination of pickup and delivery tours efficiently while satisfying logistic request priorities, time windows, and capacity constraints.

Restrictive legal regulations concerning acceptable exhaust emission standards pose increasingly stricter requirements for agricultural vehicle producers with regard to the admissible quantities of harmful substances emitted into the air by driving units of these vehicles. The study presents concepts of modernisation of the traditional in-line injection pump which makes it possible to control the engine load irrespective of the position of the power pedal.

Currently commercialization of electric vehicle (EV) is based to minimize the time of starting and acceleration. To undergo this problem multi-input multi-output fuzzy logic controller (MIMO-FLC) affect on propelled traction system forming MMS process was proposed. This paper introduces a MIMO-FLC applied on speeds of electric vehicle, the electric drive consists of two directing wheels and two rear propulsion wheels equipped with two light weight induction motors. The EV is powered by two motors of 37 kilowatts each one, delivering a 476 Nm total torque. Its high torque (476Nm) is instantly available to ensure responsive acceleration performance in built-up areas. Acceleration and steering are ensured by an electronic differential system which maintains robust control for all cases of vehicle behavior on the road. It also allows controlling independently every driving wheel to turn at different speeds in any curve. Direct torque control based on space vector modulation (DTC-SVM) is proposed to achieve the tow rear driving wheel control. The MIMO-FLC control technique is simulated in MATLAB SIMULINK environment. The simulation results have proved that the MIMO-FLC method decreases the transient oscillations and assure efficiency comportment in all type of road constraints, straight, slope, descent and curved road compared to the single input single output fuzzy controller (SISO-FLC).

Safe, efficient and user-friendly transportation of people and goods have been a premier point of concern for all the developed and the developing countries around the globe. National Highway N-5 or GT road is the most important highway link in Pakistan. It carries about 80% of the country freight traffic. When this heavy traffic passes through the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, it causes congestion and environmental hazards particularly in business centers of Rawalpindi city. Because of this heavy traffic volume passing through the cities situated along N-5, bypasses to all of them have been provided however, Rawalpindi is the only city along N5 which is still without a bypass. A bypass to Rawalpindi city is, therefore, inevitable. Besides this, the Bypass will also provide a short access to the traffic on the Motorway (M2) destined for the western part of Rawalpindi. For this research work, Rawalpindi Bypass is taken as a hypothetical scenario and is evaluated for its benefits. Besides addition to the networks of highways across Pakistan, this bypass has many other benefits which include a decrease in congestion from Islamabad and Rawalpindi main arteries (ISB Highway and IJP Road) that results in travel time savings, vehicle operating cost savings, safety savings, and reduced air pollution. This research aims to produce an engineering and scientific comparison of various costs and benefits associated with the road agency and users about the construction of an alternative. The Project involves transportation demand estimation on different segments of the National and Arterial roads, Project Costs, travel time savings, safety saving, vehicle operating cost savings, economic efficiency analysis, Air quality impact and multi criterion transportation decision making. The transportation decision making process usually involves the evaluation of effectiveness and efficiency of an alternative decision with respect to a base case DO-NOTHING Scenario. The authors have taken the existing roadway structure with no improvements as DO-NOTHING Scenario, whereas the construction of Rawalpindi Bypass (60 km) with 2 lanes in each direction is taken as Alternative B and Rawalpindi Bypass (51 km) as Alternative C. Multi criteria decision making technique is used for decision because of multiple options with different dimensions, both monetary and non-monetary. Basing of MCDM this study recommends Alternative C (51 km) for Rawalpindi Bypass.

Trwałość i bezpieczeństwo jest istotną kwestią dla pojazdów podlegających modernizacji. Do przeprowadzania analizy trwałości zmęczeniowej niezbędne jest dokładne przebadanie charakterystyki dynamicznej pojazdu przed i po modernizacji. W artykule na przykładzie konstrukcji lokomotywy manewrowej przedstawiono propozycje metodyki badań symulacyjnych dynamiki pojazdów szynowych podlegających modernizacji. Procedura badawcza obejmuje wykorzystanie parametryzacji modelu CAD 3D i MBS konstrukcji pojazdu, co umożliwia równoległą analizę dynamiki dla konstrukcji przed i po modernizacji. Dane z modelu CAD są przenoszone do modelu MBS, gdzie dodatkowo uwzględnia się rzeczywisty profil nierówności toru. Wyniki analizy MBS w postaci przebiegów sił dla obu typów konstrukcji mogą zostać wykorzystane do dalszych badań prototypowych. Zastosowanie zaproponowanej metodyki umożliwia szybką i efektywną analizę wpływu zmian konstrukcyjnych na dynamikę i trwałość pojazdu szynowego.
The durability and safety are important problems for modernised vehicles. For performing the fatigue durability analysis, it is necessary to do a precise examination of the dynamics of a vehicle before and after modernisation. In the article, a methodology proposal of simulating investigations of rail vehicles dynamics is presented. The methodology is illustrated using the example of a modernised shunter locomotive. The investigative procedure comprises the utilisation of a parametric 3D CAD model and parametric MBS model of vehicle design. This makes a concurrent analysis of vehicle dynamics before and after modernisation possible. The data from the CAD model are transferred to the MBS model where real profile of irregularities of railway track is additionally taken into consideration. The MBS analysis results in the form of force-time domain histories for both types of vehicle designs can be used for the next prototype investigations. The use of the proposed methodology makes possible the fast and effective analysis of the influence of design changes on the dynamics and durability of rail vehicles.

This paper analyses the use of exact offline optimization methods for benchmarking online taxi dispatching strategies where the objective is to minimize the total passenger waiting time. First, a general framework for simulating dynamic transport services in MATSim (Multi-Agent Transport Simulation) is described. Next, the model of online taxi dispatching is defined, followed by a formulation of the offline problem as a mixed integer programming problem. Three benchmarks based on the offline problem are presented and compared to two simple heuristic strategies and a hypothetical simulation with teleportation of idle taxis. The benchmarks are evaluated and compared using the simulation scenario of taxi services in the city of Mielec. The obtained (approximate) lower and upper bounds for the minimum total passenger waiting time indicate directions for further research.

Points of distribution, sales or service are important elements of the supply chain. These are the final elements which are responsible for proper functioning of the whole cargo distribution process. Proper location of these points in the transport network is essential to ensure the effectiveness and reliability of the supply chain. The location of these points is very important also from the consumers point of view. In this paper developed method of points location was present on the example of urban transport network. The developed approach is based on the Vehicle Routing Problem in the multistage distribution systems. The proposed method uses a genetic algorithm. Article also presents a mathematical model of delivery cost as a criterion function. The article presents an example calculations which illustrating the operation of the developed method.
