    Opis:
    Teaching a foreign language to young learners requires of the teacher a special ability to involve them in a variety of activities explicitly accommodating their need for whole-person enjoyment and implicitly fostering their L2 knowledge. This complex pedagogic task is likely to be achieved with reliance on the multi-sensory approach which is recommended by the European Co-operation Programs as an alternative L2 teaching trend encompassing universal, proactive qualities and educational diversity. Consequently, the following paper highlights the multisensoiy approach as the driving force of the lexically oriented syllabus designed by the author for young children learning English as a foreign language. The said syllabus design is presented through the empirical filter of knowledge claims and value judgements about its efficiency.

    Stimulated by growing competition in the tourism market, the offer available needs to be continuously enhanced, and as a result those doing the development reach out for increasingly sophisticated measures. An important element in this context is the popular multi-sensory perception of landscape which guarantees that the tourism product created will be interesting and unique. This helps to provide more interesting experiences and achieve greater involvement, which undoubtedly allows greater satisfaction to be drawn from participation in tourism activities. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate tha the multi-sensory approach to landscape may be applied in the creation process of the tourism product, and this proposition will be supported with examples corresponding to particular landscape stimuli. The author intends to show that contemporary tourism offers benefit from the phenomenon of the multi-sensory landscape more and more frequently.

    This paper presents an approach to monitor the dynamic disturbances of a BTA (boring and trepanning association) deep drilling system. High length to diameter ratios are the key characteristic of deep drilling processes compared to conventional drilling applications. Since length to diameter ratios of up to 150 for slender tool-boring-bar assemblies are common, the deep drilling process is sensitive to dynamic disturbances such as chatter and whirling vibrations. Whirling vibrations usually effect the shape of the hole and cause holes with several lobes. To gain a deeper understanding of the dynamic state of the process, a sensor application has been developed and was tested in practice. Experimental investigations on BTA deep drilling with continuous multi-sensory monitoring were conducted. The used setup allowed the determination of the frequencies of chatter and whirling vibrations during the cutting process by analysing the logged data using a continuous short-time Fourier transformation (STFT).

    Human communication is significant and distinctive (Yule, 2010). It involves the use of body language, facial expressions and most importantly, oral language. However, due to certain developmental problems, the use of spoken language may be sometimes limited. In those cases, the alternative communication strategies are required to be used with intellectually and physically disabled individuals. In fact, Makaton, a sign – based communication system, is believed to support the communication as well as facilitate language production (Walker, 1981). This study will present a detailed analysis of Makaton, discussing the ways that the system is implemented in Multi – Sensory Storytelling. The research will demonstrate two different modalities and consider whether they can be mutually supportive and provide simple communication. The study is specifically aimed at exploring the connections between Makaton and Multi – Sensory Storytelling, presented by professional caregivers to children with intellectual and physical disabilities. A linguistic analysis of Makaton will be presented as well as the discussion on the interactive style of the storytellers. The research will attempt at evaluating how highly trained a practitioner needs to be in order to deliver Multi – Sensory Stories using Makaton. It is clear that the analyzed data will have an impact on the final conclusions of this paper.

    Tourism business executives should discover critical ways to create a memorable experience by appealing to consumers’ multi-sensory organs emotionally and rationally. From this point of view determining the most successful multi-sensory brand experience concept, which the customers fi nd most satisfying, is becoming a critical marketing strategy. So this study aims to fi nd the sensory based memorable tourism experiences, attributes/specifi c elements of the hotel business. With this aim, Adam&Eve Hotel, a themed hotel in Antalya, was chosen as the study sample. In this exploratory research, comments which were made electronically on Tripadvisor. com, known as the world’s most visited online social travel information channel about the holiday experience, constituted the search data and the data was subjected to content analysis via Nvivo Software and the critical multi-sensory organs that create memorable tourism experiences were defi ned. The analysis of the results has been performed on the basis of fi ve sensory stimuli: 1) tactile, 2) gustatory, 3) olfactory, 4) visual, and 5) auditory. The fi ndings also revealed that nearly 70 percent of the recalled emotions and feelings from sensations related to visual stimuli which were detailed with the components like decor, interior/exterior design, etc.

    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zapoznanie czytelnika z metodami badawczymi, które wykorzystałam w trakcie zbierania danych do mojej pracy doktorskiej. Praca ta poświęcona jest zagadnieniu wielozmysłowego odbioru przestrzeni miejskiej Warszawy i porusza się w obszarze etnografii wielozmysłowej – dziedziny powoli przeszczepianej na grunt polskiej nauki. Nie ulega dziś wątpliwości, że użytkownicy miejskiej przestrzeni odbierają ją za pomocą wszystkich swoich zmysłów. Problematyczne jest jednak to, w jaki sposób, korzystając ze znanych socjologii i etnografii metod jakościowych, można taki sposób odbierania miasta zbadać. W tekście tym przedstawiam poszczególne metody badawcze, zwracając szczególną uwagę na wprowadzone przeze mnie modyfikacje. Ponadto na samym końcu punktuję możliwe zagrożenia, analizując ich wpływ na wynik badań.
    The aim of this article is to acquaint the reader with research methods, which I have used in the process of collecting data for my PhD thesis. The main subject of my thesis is situated in the field of multi-sensory ethnography and it focuses on the perception of Warsaw public spaces by city users. It is now beyond argument that public spaces are perceived with all our senses. However, it is highly interesting what kind of qualitative methods should be used to research the multi-sensory reception and how should they be modified. In this article I present the chosen methods with special emphasis on the modifications I have implemented during the research process.

    The article is the result of a research project devoted to Polish historical re-enactment groups which are becoming very popular and influential and can be seen as a part of the multi-sensory culture of the event. During ethnographic research, we raised the issue of the commercialisation of historical re-enactment and the alleged educational value of the related activities, deliberating whether it was possible to reconcile faithfulness to history with the demands of commercial events, the passion with the pursuit of profit, and teaching with entertainment. The research included the evaluational dimension and questions on the role of re-enactment in the cultural policy of the country. The findings indicated that the movement was ambiguous and multidimensional and that numerous answers existed to the question about the re-enactors’ motivations essentially because the groups are divided into hobbyist re-enactors and commercial re-enactors. We found that re-enactment was effective in instilling historical knowledge, although not into the spectators, but into the re-enactors themselves. Re-enactment events usually failed to stimulate the spectators’ interest in history. A considerable majority of these events remained intellectually passive, which caused any educational effect to be momentary and superficial.

    In the contemporary world of image, the basic attribute of architecture is its visuality. Architectural spaces are designed primarily to be viewed by the public or the "eyes" of cameras. The design for the sense of sight only impoverishes the quality of human contact with architecture. The art of shaping space should involve all perception channels. One of the most important senses, allowing to feel the created space, to get to know it and live in it, is hearing. The sonic image of architectural space not only accompanies the visual image, but also significantly defines the quality of existential and aesthetic experiences. The architect's task should be to skilfully use acoustic signals as an integral part of the design process. This belief has inspired a multidisciplinary project entitled: "Sounds of architecture", devoted to the study of the phenomenon of sound and its significance in the perception and use of the architectural environment by people. This project was carried out under the guidance of the author in 2014-2015 with the involvement of representatives of various disciplines of science and art. The result of interdisciplinary research was the monograph "Sounds of Architecture", published in 2016.
    We współczesnym świecie obrazu podstawowym atrybutem architektury jest jej wizualność. Przestrzenie architektoniczne projektowane są przede wszystkim z myślą o tym, jak będą oglądane przez odbiorcę, bądź też „oczy” aparatów i kamer fotograficznych. Projektowanie wyłącznie dla wzroku zuboża jakość ludzkich spotkań z architekturą. Sztuka kształtowania przestrzeni powinna angażować wszystkie kanały percepcyjne człowieka. Jednym z najważniejszych zmysłów, pozwalających odczuwać przestrzeń zbudowaną, poznawać ją i żyć w niej jest słuch. Foniczny obraz przestrzeni architektonicznej nie tylko towarzyszy obrazowi wizualnemu, ale w znaczącym stopniu definiuje jakość doświadczeń egzystencjalnych i estetycznych. Zadaniem architekta powinno stać się umiejętne wykorzystanie sygnałów akustycznych jako integralnego składnika w procesie projektowym. Przekonanie to stało się inspiracją do multidyscyplinarnego projektu pt.: „Dźwięki architektury”, poświęconego badaniom nad fenomenem dźwięku i jego znaczeniem w postrzeganiu i wykorzystaniu środowiska architektonicznego przez człowieka. Projekt ten realizowany był pod kierunkiem autorki w latach 2014-2015 z udziałem przedstawicieli różnych dyscyplin nauki i sztuki. Efektem interdyscyplinarnych badań stała się monografia „Dźwięki Architektury”, opublikowana w 2016 r.

Proces dydaktyczny staje się bardziej zróżnicowany i atrakcyjny, dzięki czemu jego uczestnicy odczuwają pozytywne emocje związane z daną aktywnością, co również pomaga im lepiej zapamiętać to doświadczenie oraz przyswoić nową wiedzę. Wykorzystywanie przez nauczyciela zróżnicowanych metod, strategii, materiałów i kontekstów nauczania tworzy bogate, urozmaicone środowisko sensoryczne. Współczesna dydaktyka powinna uwzględniać indywidualne predyspozycje uczniów, poszerzać ich warsztat uczenia się, zachęcać do korzystania z własnego potencjału, zgodnie z osobistymi preferencjami sposobu uczenia się.
    The text emphasizes the role of multi-sensory teaching, which involves all the senses and channels of students’ perception. Activation of the senses significantly increases the efficiency of learning, as information obtained through various learning channels is better understood and remembered. The didactic process becomes more diverse and attractive, which makes its participants feel positive emotions related to a given activity, and also helps them to better remember this experience and acquire new knowledge. The teacher’s use of diverse methods, strategies, materials and learning contexts creates a rich, varied sensory environment. Contemporary didactics should take into account the individual predispositions of pupils, expand their learning workshop, encourage to use their own potential according to personal preferences of the way of learning.

    Background. Disturbances in functioning associated with performing simple tasks of daily living, especially in conjunction with a constant hazard of incidental falls, constitute major challenges any elderly population has to face.Aim. To assess the effects of two specifically structured physical rehabilitation regimens on enhancing individual functional capabilities and minimising the risk of incidental falls among the frail octogenarians (over 85).Material and methods. Duration of the study was 3 months (comprising two exercise sessions a week). Fifty subjects (mean age: 87 years) randomised into two groups: Group I – 25, Group II (controls) – 18. Group I was assigned an intensive rehabilitation regimen combining active exercises, multi-sensory training, instruction on performing safe postural shifts and rising effectively from falls, walking short distances; Group II – active exercises and multi-sensory training. Twenty five subjects in Group I and 18 subjects in Group II completed the study,. The Timed UP & GO and Tinetti (POMA) tests were applied respectively to assess individual mobility before and upon completion of the study. The results were subsequently processed, inter alia, with a non-parametric Wilcoxon test.Results. Statistically significant improvement was observed in Group I (p<0.05) in the Timed UP & GO test score (mean time 26.1 sec. vs. 20.9 sec.), as well as in the Tinetti (POMA) test (balance assessed before: 11.2 ±1.8 after 13.1 ±1.8, gait assessed before: 8.9 ±1.5; after 10.4 ±1.7), whereas the changes observed in Group II were not statistically significant.Conclusions. Structured rehabilitation regimen combining diverse active exercises, walking training, multi-sensory training, instruction on safe postural shifts and rising effectively from incidental falls is believed to significantly enhance individual functional capabilities in the frail octogenarians.
    Wstęp. Istotnymi problemami starości są rozmaite zaburzenia występujące podczas wykonywania czynności życia codziennego oraz upadki. Cel. Ocena wpływu dwóch programów rehabilitacji na wykonanie prostych czynności ruchowych i ryzyko upadków u osób po 85 roku życia z zaburzeniami czynności życia codziennego. Materiał i metody. Badaniami objęto 50 osób (32 K, 18 M., śr. wieku 87 lat), podzielonych losowo na dwie grupy. Grupa I realizowała program rehabilitacji, obejmujący ćwiczenia czynne wolne, ćwiczenia sensomotoryczne, ćwiczenia zmiany pozycji i marsz na krótkim dystansie oraz naukę podnoszenia się po upadku. Grupa II wykonywała ćwiczenia czynne wolne, ćwiczenia sensomotoryczne. Oba programy rehabilitacji trwały 3 miesiące i były realizowane 2 razy w tygodniu. W grupie I ukończyło program 25 badanych, a w grupie II – 18. Na początku i końcu badań wykonywano test Timed UP & GO oraz test Tinetti (POMA). Przed rozpoczęciem badań nie odnotowano istotnych statystycznie różnic pomiędzy badanymi grupami. Do opisu materiału badawczego wykorzystano podstawowe parametry statystyczne, a w celu porównania uzyskanych wyników zastosowano test t-Studenta oraz nieparametryczny test Wilcoxona. Wyniki. Rezultaty wykonywania testów poprawiły się w sposób istotny statystycznie (p<0,05) tylko w grupie I. Średni czas wykonania testu UP & GO przed programem wynosił 26,1 s, a po jego zakończeniu 20,9 s. Wyniki testu Tinetti, zarówno wynik sumaryczny, jak i ocena równowagi (przed programem 11,2 ±1,8 po 13,1 ±1,8) oraz chodu (przed programem 8,9 ±1,5 po 10,4 ±1,7) były lepsze. W grupie II różnice przed i po programie rehabilitacji nie były istotne statystycznie. Wnioski. Ćwiczenia sensomotoryczne połączone z nauką podnoszenia się po upadku i nauką zmiany pozycji oraz marszem na krótkim odcinku, stosowane u osób starszych z zaburzeniami czynności życia codziennego, wpływają na poprawę wykonywania tych czynności i zmniejszenie ryzyka upadków

    Pandemia Covid-19 znacząco zmieniła formy spędzania czasu wolnego, między innymi wpłynęła na sposób słuchania muzyki – jednej z najczęstszych aktywności Polaków w czasie wolnym. W początkowym okresie pandemii zamknięto instytucje kultury, w tym te muzyczne, i odwołano koncerty plenerowe oraz festiwale, przez co słuchacze stracili możliwość bezpośredniego uczestniczenia we wszelkich wydarzeniach muzycznych, a artyści wykonywania muzyki na żywo. Zarówno jednym jak i drugim nie pozostało nic innego, jak przenieść swoje aktywności do Internetu. Szybko jednak okazało się, że takie obcowanie z muzyką jest dla słuchaczy (i wykonawców) niewystarczające. Z badań wynika, że jedną z największych tęsknot w czasie pandemii była chęć uczestnictwa w wydarzeniu muzycznym na żywo – koncercie lub festiwalu. Artykuł przedstawia festiwal jako przykład wielozmysłowej kultury iwentu, rodzaju święta, w którym muzyka odgrywa ważne społeczne funkcje – integracji społecznej i budowania poczucia wspólnoty, czyli tego, czego Polakom w pandemii najbardziej brakowało.
    The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly changed the way people spend their leisure time, including the pattern they listen to music - one of the most common leisure activities of Poles. In the early days of the pandemic, cultural institutions, among others the musical ones, were closed and outdoor concerts and festivals were cancelled, so that spectators lost the opportunity to participate in any musical events and artists to perform live music. There was nothing left but to transfer those activities to the Internet. However, it quickly turned out that such contact with music was insufficient for listeners and performers. According to research, one of the greatest longings during the pandemic was the desire to participate in a live music event - a gig or a festival. The article presents a festival as an example of the culture multi-sensory event, a kind of celebration in which music plays important social functions of social integration and building a sense of community which is what Poles missed most during the pandemic.

    Opis:
    Doświadczanie krajobrazów nadrzecznych, w tym rzek, jest procesem ich poznawania. Polega on na obserwacji, percepcji i innych działaniach sensorycznych, jak też na przeżywaniu bezpośredniego z nimi kontaktu i związanych z tym pogłębionych refleksji. Proces poznawania jest powiązany z wiedzą o krajobrazach, wzbogaconą o własne przeżycia i refleksje. W szkolnej edukacji geograficznej w ujęciu humanistycznym (jeszcze mało obecnym w realiach polskiej szkoły) ważna jest nie tylko wiedza, ale umożliwianie uczniom tworzenia pozytywnych więzi z rzeką i krajobrazami nadrzecznymi. Prowadzi to do nadawania im znaczeń i przemiany w świadomości w miejsca znaczące. Przykładem takiej edukacji jest też stwarzanie okazji do dialogu z rzeką i krajobrazami nadrzecznymi. Kluczowe jest ich wielozmysłowe i wieloaspektowe doświadczanie podczas zajęć terenowych, nie pomijając delikatnej i głębokiej sfery sacrum. Ważne dla uczniów jest uzewnętrznianie przez nauczyciela jego własnego doświadczania krajobra¬zów i efektów tego procesu – jako studium przypadku, prowadzącego od obserwacji i percepcji do holistycznego, komplementarnego ich odbioru.
    Experiencing riverside landscapes, including rivers, is a process of familiarizing with them. It consists of observation, perception and experiencing direct contact with them and related afterthoughts. The process of learning is closely connected to a level of knowledge, enriched with own experiences, emotions and reflections. In geography lessons conducted in the humanistic approach it is particularly important to encourage pupils to create positive bonds with the river and riverside landscapes which transforms them into meaningful places in students’ consciousness, and further determine the level of taming (meaning making them their own). Such an approach teaches a special dialogue with the river and riverside landscapes. A multi-sensory discovery and experience during field activities is also crucial for multisensory experience including the sphere of the sacred. It could be important and helpful for students if a teacher could externalize their own experience of the river and riverside landscapes as a case study, leading from observation and perception to a holistic complementary experience.
