    According to Council Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption, concentration of the manganese in the drinking water should not exceed 0.05 mg/l. However, this level of manganese concentration is higher ingroundwaterof a community (Vitia town) in Kosovo. Groundwater is used for drinking supply of some villages and is only chlorified continuing to the reservoir from where is gravitationallydisseminated to the villages. The manganese level of the water is at the range 0.3 to 0.6 mg/l. Limestone has been provenby many researchers to be a very effective filter material in manganese removal for groundwater.A miniature filtration unit was modeled to investigate the removal efficiency of manganese.The unit consists of local limestone, where a single materialis folded in three layers of different grainsizes. In fact, the aim of this paper was to assess whether limestone as a single material acting as a "multi-media filter" can reduce the manganese concentration in groundwater. On the basis of the analysis of the single snapshot sample,the removal of manganese achieved more than 95% in filtered water. Particularly, this study demonstrates that filtering the water through three layers of different grain sizes of limestone ("multi-media limestone filter") can be a good alternative for manganese removal in groundwater.

    Opis:
    William S. Burroughs (1914-1997), one of the most controversial American writers of the 20th century, is an example of a "total artist", who does not limit himself to one genre or medium. He is best known for being an experimental writer, the co-creator of the avant-garde, "cut-ups" technique - a variant of collage. His cut-ups, however, were not limited to literature, as he was also the author of musical recordings, experimental videos and various visual art projects. These were collaborative undertaking that the artist carried out with his friends - mainly with  Brion Gysim (painter), Ian Sommerville (electronics technitian and computer programmer) and Anthony Balch (film director). This article discussed William Burroughs' lesse-known works like, The Third Mind, As Pook Is Here, and The Book of Breeething as they are multi-media, interdysciplinary projects, created with the help of popular painters or illustrators, e.g. Bob Gale or Malcolm McNeil, and best demonstrate Burroughs' unconventional approach towards collaboration and the crossing of boundaries between different forms of art. The article also briefly comments on Burroughs' final decision to turn to painting and his eccentric "Shotgun Art".

    Although dust-holding capacity is the primary feature of engine air filters operating in dusty environments, efficiency becomes a major factor when selecting an engine air filter. Inertial separators and high porosity or fibrous prefilters are commonly used to decrease the dust load to the main filter while high efficiency is achieved by utilizing submicron or nanofiber fibers in the main filter. The patented multi-stage filter was designed to achieve ultra-high particle removal efficiency and dust holding capacity, and long life in dusty and on highway environments. The main (final) filter is located downstream of the prefilter. The main filter is made ofpleatedfilter media containing nanofibers with a diameter in the range of40 - 800 nanometers. The upstream in-line precleaner utilizing flow-through mini cyclones has separation efficiency of 95%. A high dust capacity, high efficiency prefilter can be used instead of the precleaner. The prefilter is made of vertically lapped nonwoven filter media made from synthetic fibers of different materials to fully utilize the tribological effect. The volume of the prefilter is determined by the performance required and space allotted. This paper discusses the filter performance of high dust holding capacity engine air filters. Filter specifications, design and performance are discussed in detail. Performance characteristics of the media and full size filters were determined using on-line particle counters and the gravimetric test method. Initial and final efficiency, and dust loading performance characteristics, are provided.

    The texts is an attempt to make a cross-sectional study of the philosophy and aesthetics of a fragment in the literature-history evolution of the phenomenon, from the Romantic “opening of a work”, “a form in motion”, the concept of the “grainy nature” of style and separation of the relation of a part to the whole, through the mosaic, collage nature of performing the idea of fragmentation in the arts of Modernism, to the norms of post-modern affirmation of the phenomenology of «fragmenting». In the space of different meanings the author tries to find those that most strongly define the language of the post-modern culture. The core of the theoretical-literary discussion is a broadly understood dialectics of the whole and of a part as considered paradigmatically, that is as the patterns and models of description, interpretation, the strategy of thinking and creating (the “sense of chaos” and the classical “idea of order”), and the peculiarly understood philosophy of culture, whose aesthetical, epistemological, and axiological dimension is signed by a broadly understood idea or break-up and disintegration, unpredictability, incoherence, inconclusiveness, nonlinear shapes. The discussion of the poetics of a fragment concerns the problems such as: the formal-aesthetic status of a workfragment, the relationship between the fragment and the whole (unity and partiality), and the nature of the oppositions: unity-multiplicity, whole-detail, finiteness-infinity, point-universe, different dimensions and functions of fragmentality (aesthetical-cognitive, axiological, structural-composition, genologic, and interpretational).

    Praca ma na celu opis i refleksję nad narzędziem stworzonym do przeszukiwania największego na świecie zbioru relacji video Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation nagranych metoda oral history. Zbiór zawierający 52 tys. nagrań ze świadkami historii został opatrzony 65 tys. haseł indeksowych. Nagrania opisane są terminami ze wszelkich dziedzin i obszarów życia, minuta po minucie. Jest to jedyny na świecie, wciąż mało znany w Polsce system, który błyskawicznie pozwala odnaleźć fragmenty o konkretnej tematyce spośród ponad 7 mln minut nagrań. Choć dla użytkownika jest to ogromne udogodnienie, może wpływać na pobieżną pracę z narracjami historii mówionej, których celem pierwotnym jest ukazanie procesu pamiętania i doświadczeń z przeszłości bardziej niż pojedynczych faktów.
    The work aim is to describe and reflect on the tool created to search the world's largest collection of video individual testimonies. The Visual History Archive is an online portal from USC Shoah Foundation that allows users to search through and view 52,000 oral history audiovisual testimonies of survivors and witnesses of the 2nd word war. Each video testimony has been indexed by 62,000 terms by assigning them to the relevant one-minute segments of each testimony. That allows you to find fragments about specific topics from over 7 million minutes of recordings. It is the only system in the world, still hardly known in Poland. While it brings users great conven-ience, it can affect a cursory work with narratives. This is because the primary purpose oral history is to show the process of remembering and experiences the past more than finding single facts.

    The basic idea of this paper is to motivate teachers/instructors of maritime schools and colleges to create interesting and engaging screencasts for teaching students (future seafarers) ECDIS basis, by using new contemporary media and didactical solutions. Camtasia Studio has been proposed as suitable applied software for doing so. It is a multi-media, user-friendly environment, providing the customers with the variety of possibilities for editing PowerPoint presentations with the introduction of audio, video and different animations, in order to make teaching/learning content more interesting and to point out the most important issues. It allows computer screen video capturing, and adding of audio and numerous animated effects to it, as well as augmenting video recordings into the Camtasia project(s). Even though the proposed software tool possesses a broad palette of advanced features for recording and editing “lively” and edifying recordings, within this paper only brief descriptions of “reviving” classical PowerPoint presentations, taking the screen captures over Transas demo ECDIS software, and their editing is presented. Several examples of instructional recordings concerning ECDIS operational basis, and possibility of students’ self-evaluation have been given, too.

Mechanics of multiphase porous media and damage mechanics are applied for this purpose, and kinetics of degradation processes is described with evolution equations based on thermodynamics of chemical reactions. The mass-, energy - and momentum balances, as well as the evolution equations, constitutive and physical relations are briefly summarized. Then, the model governing equations are numerically solved with the finite element method. Three examples of the model application for analyzing degradation processes of building materials are presented and discussed. The first one deals with capillary suction of the salt solution by two different building materials, the second one with the salt crystallization during drying of a brick wall, and the third one concerns calcium leaching from a concrete wall due to the chemical attack of pure water under pressure gradient at two different temperatures.

    Functional carbon-based nanomaterials have become important due to their unique combinations of chemical and physical properties, and also because of the increasing research efforts in various fi elds. A signifi cant gap in nanotechnology is the disregarding of physicochemical transformation under real conditions for the examination and comparison on the effect of carbon based nanomaterials. In this study, the behavior of some carbon based nanomaterials (multi-walled carbon nanotubes and graphene nanoplatelets) in environmental media (sea water, soil, and airborne fi ne particulate) were evaluated by using the infl uence on nanomaterial physicochemical properties (size, zeta potential, surface chemistry, morphology and sedimentation) and on the toxicity of bacterium (gram positive and gram negative bacteria) to contribute to their environmental hazard and risk assessment on the environment. The bacteria were exposed to the carbon based nanomaterials, and cultivated on nutrient agar plates including each environmental media, and then counted for the colony forming units. The physicochemical properties of the carbon based nanomaterials dispersed in these environmental media were also investigated. Our results indicated that the toxicity depended on the type of environmental media and their concentration, and the physicochemical properties of the carbon based nanomaterials changed when compared to the results obtained in controlled conditions.

    Research background: The critical role of online games in e-commerce and the great competition among providers to enhance market share has significantly increased the need to use effective advertising patterns, techniques, and tools to attract users. There are two significant challenges to planning online media game selection. The first challenge is that there is no agreement on media selection criteria for online game advertising. The second challenge relates to the complexity of choosing advertising media. Purpose of the article: Given the multidimensionality and uncertainty in evaluating and selecting advertising media, especially in the case of online games, the need to provide a systematic framework for evaluating and selecting media is critical. Methods: The present study aims to provide a systematic framework based on multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) methods to evaluate and select the appropriate media for online game advertising. For this purpose, first, by reviewing the literature, a relatively comprehensive list of media selection criteria for online game advertising was extracted and then provided to experts in online game marketing and advertising in the fuzzy Delphi questionnaire. Then, based on their opinions, a localized decision model was obtained. Also, the Step-wise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) method helped to determine the criteria' importance. In the next step, a preliminary list of online game advertising media was prepared and evaluated by experts based on the criteria obtained in the previous step. Finally, the media was ranked using the Additive Ratio ASsessment (ARAS) method. Findings & value added: Awareness of the criteria affecting the selection of online game advertising media and having a systematic framework for applying these criteria in advertising media selection decisions play a vital role in practical decisions. This research addresses one of the main gaps in the field of study by proposing a quantitative methodology for integrating information based on the knowledge of experts in the decision-making processes select advertising media for online games. Most traditional media selection processes are based solely on experience and estimation, and in practice, they are unable to systematically prioritize the alternatives due to the multiplicity of media available and the complexity of the decision-making process Interval-valued triangular fuzzy numbers (IVTFNs) can address the shortcomings of previous research while considering the uncertainties in this decision-making process. The findings of this framework can be good support for e-commerce managers and online game advertising practitioners.

    Near real time media content personalisation is nowadays a major challenge involving media content sources, distributors and viewers. This paper describes an approach to seamless recommendation, negotiation and transaction of personalised media content. It adopts an integrated view of the problem by proposing, on the business-to-business (B2B) side, a brokerage platform to negotiate the media items on behalf of the media content distributors and sources, providing viewers, on the business-to-consumer (B2C) side, with a personalised electronic programme guide (EPG) containing the set of recommended items after negotiation. In this setup, when a viewer connects, the distributor looks up and invites sources to negotiate the contents of the viewer personal EPG. The proposed multi-agent brokerage platform is structured in four layers, modelling the registration, service agreement, partner lookup, invitation as well as item recommendation, negotiation and transaction stages of the B2B processes. The recommendation service is a rule-based switch hybrid filter, including six collaborative and two content-based filters. The rule-based system selects, at runtime, the filter(s) to apply as well as the final set of recommendations to present. The filter selection is based on the data available, ranging from the history of items watched to the ratings and/or tags assigned to the items by the viewer. Additionally, this module implements (i) a novel item stereotype to represent newly arrived items, (ii) a standard user stereotype for new users, (iii) a novel passive user tag cloud stereotype for socially passive users, and (iv) a new content-based filter named the collinearity and proximity similarity (CPS). At the end of the paper, we present off-line results and a case study describing how the recommendation service works. The proposed system provides, to our knowledge, an excellent holistic solution to the problem of recommending multimedia contents.

    The interaction between an ensemble of cylinders and an inhomogeneous plane wave is introduced and is determined, in the present paper, through a rigorous theoretical approach. Scattered electromagnetic field generated by an indefinite number of infinite circular cylinders is analyzed by the application of the generalized vector cylinder harmonics (VCH) expansion. The exact mathematical model relied upon to represent this scenario considers the so-called complex-angle formalism reaching a superposition of vectorial cylindrical-harmonics and Foldy-Lax Multiple scattering equations (FLMSE) to account for the multiscattering process between the cylinders. The method was validated by comparing the numerical results obtained with the use of the finite element method and a homemade Matlab code.

    The article starts with a discussion of the essential theories of reading and focuses on different models of understanding. In the next step, based on fragments taken from a novel by M. Zusak, the article develops an integrative literary and language teaching model in intercultural school lessons of literature in a way which stimulates a highly functional analytical, receptive and productive handling of language semantics and performance. It demonstrates the combination of literature and film as a possibility for successful literary, language and media learning.

    Marketers are currently focused on proper budget allocation to maximize ROI from online advertising. They use conversion attribution models assessing the impact of specific media channels (display, search engine ads, social media, etc.). Marketers use the data gathered from paid, owned, and earned media and do not take into consideration customer activities in category media, which are covered by the OPEC (owned, paid, earned, category) media model that the author of this paper proposes. The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive review of the scientific literature related to the topic of conversion attribution for the period of 2010–2019 and to present the theoretical implications of not including the data from category media in marketers’ analyses of conversion attribution. The results of the review and the analysis provide information about the development of the subject, the popularity of particular conversion attribution models, the ideas of how to overcome obstacles that result from data being absent from analyses. Also, a direction for further research on online customer behavior is presented.

    W artykule podjęto problem przekazów multimodalnych w relacjach przekładowych. Źródłem przykładów były teksty rosyjskie – oryginały pochodzące z różnych mediów i ich przekłady na język polski opublikowane w czasopiśmie „Forum”. Analiza wybranych przykładów pokazała, że elementy graficzne współtworzą globalny sens komunikatu, ale z reguły są one inne w komunikacie przełożonym.
    В статье обсуждается проблема медийных мультимодальных коммуникатов с точки зрения переводческих соотношений. Источником примеров послужили русскоязычные тексты, происходящие из разных СМИ, и их переводы на польский язык, опубликованные в журнале „Forum”. Анализ отобранных примеров показал, что графическое оформление участвует в создании глобального смысла коммуниката, но, как правило, они являются различными в переведенном тексте.     The article deals with the issue of multimodal media discourse in translation. It is based on Russian articles originating from different media and their Polish translations published in bi-weekly “Forum”. Analysis of selected examples revealed that graphic elements contribute to global sense of the message, however usually these are different in the translated texts.
