Combining data from diverse, heterogeneous sources while facilitating a unified access to it is an important (albeit difficult) task. There are various possibilities of performing it. In this publication, we propose and describe an agent-based framework dedicated to acquiring and processing distributed, heterogeneous data collected from diverse sources (e.g., the Internet, external software, relational, and document databases). Using this multi-agent-based approach in the aspects of the general architecture (the organization and management of the framework), we create a proof-of-concept implementation. The approach is presented using a sample scenario in which the system is used to search for personal and professional profiles of scientists.

Opis:
The research, presented in this paper, concernes the controllability of a multi-agent network with a directed, unweighted, cooperative, and time-invariant communication topology. The network’s agents follow linear and heterogeneous dynamics, encompassing first-order, second-order, and third-order differential equations over continuous time. Two classes of neighbour-based linear distributed control protocols are considered: the first one utilises average feedback from relative velocities/relative accelerations, and the second one utilises feedback from absolute velocities/absolute accelerations. Under both protocols, the network’s agents achieve consensus in their states asymptotically. We observe that both of the considered dynamical rules exploit the random-walk normalised Laplacian matrix of the network’s graph. By categorising the agents of the network into leaders and followers, with leaders serving as exogenous control inputs, we analyse the controllability of followers within their state space through the influence of leaders. Specifically, matrix-rank conditions are established to evaluate the leader– follower controllability of the network under both control protocols. These matrix-rank conditions are further refined in terms of the system matrices’ eigenvalues and eigenvectors. The inference diagrams presented in this work provide deeper insights into how leader– follower interactions impact the network controllability. The efficacy of the theoretical findings is validated through numerical examples.

We calculate the dynamics of tax evasion within a multi-agent econophysics model which is adopted from the theory of magnetism and previously has been shown to capture the main characteristics from agent-based based models which build on the standard Allingham and Sandmo approach. In particular, we implement a feedback of public goods provision on the decision-making of selfish agents which aim to pursue their self interest. Our results imply that such a feedback enhances the moral attitude of selfish agents thus reducing the percentage of tax evasion. Two parameters govern the behavior of selfish agents, (i) the rate of adaption to changes in public goods provision and (ii) the threshold of perception of public goods provision. Furtheron we analyze the tax evasion dynamics for different agent compositions and under the feedback of public goods provision. We conclude that policymakers may enhance tax compliance behavior via the threshold of perception by means of targeted public relations.

This paper describes a concept of the planning system for self adaptable, reconfigurable fixtures composed of mobile locators (robotic agents) that can freely move on a bench and reposition below the supported part, without removing the part from the fixture. The main role of the planner is to generate the admissible plan of relocation of the mobile agents. A constrained nonlinear optimization problem is formulated to find the optimal locations for supporting heads.

Opis:
Niching is a group of techniques used in evolutionary algorithms, useful in several types of problems, including multimodal or nonstationary optimization. This paper investigates the applicability of these methods to evolutionary multi-agent systems (EMAS), a hybrid model combining the advantages of evolutionary algorithms and multi-agent systems. This could increase the efficiency of this type of algorithms and allow to apply them to a wider class of problems. As a starting point, a simple but flexible EMAS framework is proposed. Then, it is shown how to extend this framework in order to introduce niching, by adapting two classical niching methods. Finally, preliminary experimental results show the efficiency and the simultaneous discovery of multiple optima by this modified EMAS.

MAREA
Opis:
Research background: Managerial scientists use a lot of modelling techniques for business processes. In this paper we are focused on agent-based modelling and simulations, which emerged in the last two decades as a new approach. Autonomous and interacting intelligent agents are able to model and simulate complex systems in the business sphere. With the use of agent-based modelling and simulations we are able to understand how macro level outcomes are affected by micro level processes and vice versa. Purpose of the article: The purpose of the paper is to introduce recent development in the area of agent-based modelling and simulations focused on the business domain. Managers often have to make difficult decisions under the uncertainty and high risks. Agent-based modelling can provide powerful tools for lowering those risks through a possibility of running experiments, which is normally impossible in economics. In the second part we want to support the usefulness of agent-based simulations with our own simulations. Methods: The method used in this article is an agent-based simulation in a multi-agent system. We use a framework called MAREA. It is a simulation environment with integrated ERP system based on REA ontology. Our simulation model is based on a retail company that sells electronics. For simplicity, in our setup we trade with computer cables. Findings & Value added: In our simulations we experimented with the quality of sales service provided by company’s sales representatives. We investigated the impact of quality of sales service on company KPIs under the changing environment circumstances represented by disturbance agent. The quality of sales service is a part of quality of service and thus it affects the perception of brand and loyalty of customers towards the company. In our simulation setup we work with two types of customers, long-term customers and new ones. The result is that quality of sales service has mostly positive effects on company KPIs.

Opis:
The key standards for negotiation in multi agent systems are considered. Multiagent systems represent one of the most promising technological paradigms for the development of autonomous, distributed, open and intelligent software systems. Particularly because the agents are autonomous and cannot be assumed to be benevolent negotiation is critical to resolve conflicts. Examples of conflicts include conflicts over the usage of joint resources or task assignments and conflicts between a buyer and a seller in electronic commerce. The process of negotiations may be of many different forms, such as auctions, protocols in the style of the contract net, and argumentation. The paper focuses on the analysis of specification standards provided by FIPA (Foundation of Intelligent Physical Agents). The first part of the study will present basic information about the negotiations in multi-agent systems. For this purpose, will be shown the importance of negotiations in modeling interactions software agents, types of messages used in multi-agent systems using standard FIPA ACL and options for online auctions, which can be aided by software agents. The second part will present the commonly used protocols consistent with FIPA specifications. To this end, we will discuss eleven diagrams depicting the model sequences of interaction agents. Their use can be found in the construction of multi-agent systems.

This paper tackles the application of evolutionary multi-agent computing to solve inverse problems. High costs of fitness function call become a major difficulty when approaching these problems with population-based heuristics. However, evolutionary agent-based systems (EMAS) turn out to reduce the fitness function calls, which makes them a possible weapon of choice against them. This paper recalls the basics of EMAS and describes the considered problem (Step and Flash Imprint Lithography), and later, shows convincing results that EMAS is more effective than a classical evolutionary algorithm.

Complex problems involving multiple agents exhibit varying degrees of cooperation. The levels of cooperation might reflect both differences in information as well as differences in goals. In this research, we develop a general mathematical model for distributed, semicooperative planning and suggest a solution strategy which involves decomposing the system into subproblems, each of which is specified at a certain period in time and controlled by an agent. The agents communicate marginal values of resources to each other, possibly with distortion. We design experiments to demonstrate the benefits of communication between the agents and show that, with communication, the solution quality approaches that of the ideal situation where the entire problem is controlled by a single agent.
