Opis:
The history of the Vistula River mouth exhibits the development of the hydrographic system of Żuławy lowlands caused by natural phenomena and human intervention. During its history, the Vistula River has changed the location of its direct connection with the Baltic Sea three times; the first (the Gdańsk Vistula) and the second (the Brave Vistula) river outlets were created by nature, while the recent one (the Vistula Cross-Cut) was man-made. Each of these locations faced similar problems, i.e. sedimentation in the river mouth leading to flooding problem in the surrounding region, intensified in winter by ice jams. The recent outlet, made as a short cut of the river reach in 1895, requires permanent maintenance as to diminish a flood risk for the surrounding areas due to sedimentation. Since the opening, its maintenance is carried out by elongation of jetties on both sides of the river mouth, and occasional dredging of sand. Presently, further elongation of jetties is proposed, however new methods to keep the river mouth should be considered.

Opis:
Word of mouth' (WOM) as a communication tool has evolved quite significantly over the last few decades. Originally, word-of-mouth communication was limited to local coverage, i.e. it was restricted only to the closest people in the circle of the sender of the message. Technological developments over the past 30 years, particularly in computer and mobile technologies, have brought about significant changes in this form of communication. The information provided has become global; the consumer can communicate directly with the entrepreneur. Examples of bibliographic analyses of only electronic word of mouth (eWOM) without consideration of traditional WOM can be found in the literature. It therefore seems important to try to analyse the literature collection on both WOM and eWOM. The article aims to identify and present the most frequently cited works (along with their authors), as well as the publications most frequently referred to by authors publishing works related to WOM. Citation analysis and co-citation analysis were used to realise the stated aim. The basis for the analyses is a collection of publications from the WoS database. The results obtained made it possible to identify and create a list of the most frequently cited and co-cited publications.

Opis:
The Internet, including the social media services, has considerably changed the manner in which consumers voice favourable or unfavourable recommendations about products and services. Development of social media allowed reaching a significantly greater number of persons in a quicker way. One may also notice that the range of thematic comments has been expanded – customers speak not only about the quality of the products, their prices, service levels, but also about other aspects of how marketing companies function. Finally, it is worth paying attention to the language of these opinions, which – in the case of a negative experience with a product or retailer advertising – is often aggressive. With the development and dissemination of social networking, PR and marketing communications managers must learn how to communicate and satisfy customers and those who express their discontent at different stages of the purchase funnel. This is especially important in the case of negative word of mouth (NWOM) because every negative opinion can become the nucleus of major problems within brand image and the brand crisis. The aim of the article is to show the specificity of word of mouth in social media (sWOM) as one of the forms of electronic word of mouth (eWOM) and to depict phenomenon of NWOM in social media basing on selected case studies from the Polish market.

Wstęp. Stomatologiczne programy zdrowotne, kierowane do wybranych grup wiekowych dzieci, prowadzone są od wielu lat. Badania stomatologiczne wykonywane w ramach tych programów służą ocenie stanu zdrowia jamy ustnej u dzieci. Cel pracy. Analiza wyników badań przeprowadzonych u drugoklasistów szkoły podstawowej w ramach profilaktycznego programu stomatologicznego. Materiał i metody. Analiza dokumentacji badań stomatologicznych 257 uczniów klas drugich szkoły podstawowej wykonywanych w ramach „Programu profilaktyki zdrowotnej w zakresie poprawy stanu zdrowia jamy ustnej” w latach 2009–2012. Wyniki. Frekwencja uczestników programu przekraczała co roku poziom 80%. Odsetek dzieci z próchnicą zębów wymagających leczenia rokrocznie przekraczał poziom 72%. Co roku odsetek dzieci z rozpoznanymi wadami zgryzu przekraczał poziom 73%. Badania ujawniły bardzo zły poziom higieny jamy ustnej u dzieci. Wnioski.
Background. Dental programs within specific age groups have been carried out among school children for many years now. Teeth examination conducted as part of such programs aimed to examine and evaluate the state of oral cavity health among children and youngsters. Objectives. The aim of this study was to analyse the results of dental examinations conducted as part of a prophylactic program among primary school second-grade students. Material and methods. Analysis of 257 dental examination reports among primary school second-grade students as conducted under “Prophylactic program aiming to improve the condition of oral cavity” in 2009–2012. Results. Attendance in the program exceeded 80% each and every year. Each year, the proportion of children with dental caries requiring treatment amounted to 72% of all participants. The proportion of kids with occlusion malfunctions exceeded 73% each year. The analysis demonstrated a very poor state of mouth health among program attendants. Conclusion. Programs of dental prophylactic examinations should be continued and expanded to cover children of all school ages. Each year, the number of children with caries and poor mouth hygiene – as can be concluded from the results – should prompt more intense implementation of proper hygienic and eating habits and intensify dental prophylactic measures

Background. Word of mouth (WOM) has been acknowledged for many years as a factor of major influence on what people know, feel and do. Currently, the word of mouth effect is especially important in the tourism industry, whose intangible products are difficult to evaluate prior to their consumption. The aim of the research was to examine the relationship between the perceived service quality and the respondents’ willingness to recommend the services to others (word of mouth effect). Material and methods. The hypothesis was tested empirically among a sample of 221 students who participated in family vacation in the previous year. The Spearman correlation was established to explore the strength of the relationship between the perceived service quality and the WOM effect. Results. The study supported the hypothesis that the perceived service quality had a positive influence on the word of mouth effect. Conclusions. The perceived quality of services should be regarded as an important determinant of customers’ post-purchase behaviour.

The aim of the study described in this article was to establish if there are any patterns in the way different Cracow hotels manage their online reputation by responding to online user reviews. Reputation was analysed by means of quantitative variables representing some dimensions of reputation. Characteristics of selected hotels were investigated to show how they influence the way in which hotels respond to online reviews posted by hotel guests. 1327 replies to over 4000 reviews were collected by a web scraping tool called ParseHub. The significance of differences among group means in a sample was checked by one-way ANOVA analysis of variance and HSD Tukey test. It was found that three independent variables - having a social media profile, being part of a hotel chain and the TripAdvisor user rating - were factors that significantly differentiated hotels’ response to online reviews. Some differences to findings of previous studies were also identified, primarily in terms of the effect of star ratings and the number of rooms. It was concluded that Cracow’s hotels are better at managing their online reputation than hotels operating in other local markets and that visibility was the dimension of reputation that received the most attention.

Opis:
This investigation reports the preliminary results for determining the sedimentation rate at the Amazonas River mouth, Brazil, by the 210Pb method. The CIC (constant initial concentration) of unsupported/excess 210Pb model was successfully applied to one sediments core. The measurements were made in a sediments core comprising ten samples 10 cm – thick each. The year of the sampling (2006) was used as reference for the establishment of the rate of sedimentation from the beginning of the top of the testimony. However, the atmospheric conditions and climate in Amapá State, Brazil, claimed for optimization of the results. Because the Channel North is opened into the Atlantic Ocean, it exhibits a huge water volume, causing a permanent motion of sediments and water. So, heavy waves are formed at the water surface, stirring the upper sand strata. Only at a depth of 40–50 cm the profile tends to be more homogeneous, where it is mostly composed by fine sand and very fine sand. Thus, it is reasonable utilize the CIC model from 210Pb data, which allows estimate a sedimentation rate corresponding to 0.61 g/cm²yr and a mean linear rate of 0.8 cm/yr. The 238U and 210Pb activities in the sediments allowed the reconstruction of the sedimentation processes over a period of about 130 years.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań przebiegu procesu sedymentacji w obszarze ujściowym rzeki Amazonki. Do oceny intensywności sedymentacji wykorzystano model CIC (Constant Initial Concentration) aktywności 210Pb, którą badano w dziesięciu 10-cm warstwach osadu pobranego w 2006 roku. Zastosowana metoda pozwoliła na ocenę przebiegu procesu sedymentacji osadów w okresie 130 lat. Górne warstwy osadów o miąższości 40–50 cm posiadają zaburzoną strukturę i aktywność 210Pb, spowodowaną okresowym oddziaływaniem fal oceanicznych i wód słonych.

Lichen planus (LP) is a relatively common chronic inflammatory mucocutaneous disease. The aetiology is un-known, but appears to be mediated by the immune system. Emotional factors such as stress and anxiety are as-sociated with oral lichen planus (OLP). It affects a higher percentage of middle-aged females. Erosive/ulcerative lesions are accompanied by symptoms such as severe pain and burning sensation, which vary according to the de-gree of inflammation. The main treatment of symptomatic OLP includes the use of topical corticosteroid drugs. Al-ternative treatments include immunosuppressants, retinoids, laser therapy, photodynamic therapy, aloe vera and green tea. The objective of this literature review was to describe the effective treatments for symptomatic OLP le-sions. It was concluded that topical therapy is the most widely used treatment for symptomatic lesions of OLP. Clo-betasol propionate mouthwash was the most used anti-inflammatory drug even though it has the same efficacy as other treatments. There is no stipulated duration of topical treatment for clobetasol propionate and should be used until the complete remission of the symptoms.

Background. Free radicals play a key role in the development of several pathological conditions. Therefore, antioxidants (AOs) are the first line of defense against free radical damage and are critical for maintaining optimum health and wellbeing. Objectives: To assess the perception of dental practitioners regarding use of antioxidants in oral health. Method. A cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted among 296 dental practitioners in Tricity (Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula, India). A self-structured close-ended questionnaire was used to assess the perception of dentists regarding the use of antioxidants in their patients. It consisted of 12 questions with dichotomous response and five point likert scale ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data, followed by the Chi-square test to check significant differences between the responses. Correlation between responses were analysed through the Spearman’s rank correlation. Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20 (Illinois, Chicago, USA). Results. A statistically significant difference was observed between genders, with females 181 (61%) having more knowledge than males 115 (39%) regarding the use of antioxidants in their clinical practice. It has been found that dental professionals in academics prescribes more antioxidants to their patients than the private practitioners. Postgraduates 76 (77.6%) had a higher level of knowledge than graduates 86 (43%). Conclusions. Knowledge about antioxidants should be highlighted in the health sciences curriculum. It is recommended to expand the use of antioxidants in oral health to bring down the burden of chronic diseases like periodontitis and catastrophic diseases like precancerous lesions and oral cancer.

Opis:
Sjogren’s syndrome (SS) is a complex connective tissue disease with autoimmune background and high clinical, radiological and molecular heterogeneity. SS is typically manifested by sicca syndrome, characterized by dry eyes and dry mouth due to autoimmune-induced inflammation of the lacrimal and salivary glands. Complications of sicca syndrome are dental caries, oral candidiasis, dysosmia, dysgeusia, difficulties in swallowing and chewing. SS may coexist with other diseases of rheumatoid and autoimmune etiology. SS is linked to an 16-fold increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Early diagnosis results in appropriate treatment and may slow down the course of the disease and limit extraglandular involvement. Due to diverse clinical phenotypes and symptomatology, establishing of the diagnosis is often difficult. In 2016 the AmericanEuropean Consensus Group (AECG) and European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) proposed a classification system that defines SS as a systemic disease. Diagnostic tools in establishing SS diagnosis are serological tests, ultrasonography, Schirmer’s test, unstimulated whole saliva flow rate and Ocular Staining Score. The complete curing of SS is still not possible. As a complex multisystem disease, SS requires multidisciplinary cooperation and individual diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in patients. Therapy is focused on the treatment of symptoms and prophylaxis of complications. The laryngological treatment of oral cavity symptoms in SS include supervision of proper oral hygiene habits and adequate fluids supplementation. The EULAR Sjögren’s syndrome disease activity index (ESSDAI) and Clinical Oral Dryness Score(CODS) are used to monitor disease progression and treatment effectiveness.

Opis:
The investigations were conducted on 60 Holstein-Friesian dairy cows (at age 3 year and weight 590 kg) kept in tie-stall barn. The animals were divided into 3 groups of 20 heads each. The control group (K) was fed diets without probiotics, group (EM) -- was fed diet with the addition of EM probiotic (dose of 150 ml ⋅ t-1 TMR) and group (T) -- was fed diet with the addition of ToyoCerin probiotic (dose of 0.2 kg ⋅ t-1 TMR). The volume of 2--10 cm$^3$ saliva was collected from each animal in which the following parameters were determined: number of lactic acid rods from the Lactobacillus genus, number of rods capable of producing hydrogen peroxide. For purpose of precise diagnostics, lactic acid rods were identified on the basis of biochemical traits employing API 50 CHL (BioMérieux), while those manufacturing H2O2 were additionally tested using PCR method. The occurrence of Lactobacillus spp. rods was confirmed in all the examined individuals and in each and every experimental combination. Lactobacillus spp. rods capable of produce hydrogen peroxide were isolated in 17 cows in group K, in 3 individuals in group EM and in 13 animals in group T. EM probiotic strongly significantly restrict the development of Lactobacillus spp. strains are capable to produce hydrogen peroxide.
Od każdego zwierzęcia pobierano 2-10 cm3 śliny, w której oznaczano: liczebność pałeczek bakterii mlekowych z rodzaju Lactobacillus, liczebność pałeczek zdolnych do produkcji nadtlenku wodoru. W celu precyzyjnej diagnostyki tych bakterii zastosowano testy biochemiczne API 50 CHL (BioMérieux) oraz pałeczki zdolne do produkcji nadtlenku wodoru poddano reakcji PCR. Występowanie pałeczek Lactobacillus spp. stwierdzono u wszystkich osobników w każdej kombinacji doświadczalnej. Pałeczki zdolne do tworzenia nadtlenku wodoru izolowano od 17 krów w grupie K, od 3 w grupie EM i 13 zwierząt w grupie T. Zastosowany EM probiotyk istotnie ograniczał rozwój szczepów Lactobacillus spp. zdolnych do produkcji nadtlenku wodoru.
