Opis:
It was established that in the territory of the Stryi river basin, the natural landscapes are maximally preserved in comparison with other regions of Western Ukraine, but under modern conditions an increase of negative anthropogenic impact on the quality of natural waters is observed. The hydrodynamic barriers or hydrodynamically active areas (HAA) of mountain rivers, characterized by a significant oxygen saturation of the water flow, which activates the processes of biochemical and biological self-purification of surface waters, are important for the efficiency of self-purification processes. In order to verify the results of theoretical and field research, an existing experimental setup was designed and improved. It provided the conditions for modeling the flow of mountain rivers in accordance with the laws of similarity theory and the principles of hydrodynamic modeling. On the basis of the results of field observations in the foothills of rivers, as well as regulatory and design documentation, the limits of the main operating factors were determined, namely the Freud number, flow depth and flow rate, which are decisive in studying the impact of HAA on flow self-cleaning processes. By changing the length of the tray section, the gullies and the waterfall niche of the real hydrodynamically active section were simulated, on which field experiments on the Tyshivnytsia River were conducted. In the studies, measurements were performed at different flow regimes, which simulated different hydrological parameters. In order to analyze the impact of HAA on self-cleaning processes, the flow was visualized using photography. The change in the structure of a stream of natural waters at passage of HAA was established. The high oxygen saturation of the river waters of the Stryi river basin is caused by the influence of HAA, which contribute to the purification of polluted waters from biological pollutants and other man-made pollutants and form the high quality of water resources in the region. A method of modeling and visualization of mountain rivers in the laboratory was developed.

Opis:
It is clear from what we know about the various deposits of mineral resources in Poland that Polish mountain areas are rich in minerals. This applies especially to the Sudetes, the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, and some areas of the Carpathians. They were or still are the site of mining activity in many of its forms (underground, surface and hole mining). These activities have various effects, such as changing the specific spatial elements and interference with the natural and cultural landscape. This is particularly important in the mountain regions which are attractive to the tourist and fulfil recreational and spa functions. From the analysis of the Polish law a conclusion can be drawn that mining activity is generally excluded from the planning system, which has a significant impact on the mountain area and on a subsequent use of post-mining heritage.

Opis:
Extensive disintegration of spruce forests in the Beskidy Mts. in South Poland generates a need to regenerate sizeable areas as well as to rebuild forest stands which have defended themselves against breakdown. In practice, the magnitude of relevant management tasks does not allow for keeping up with the progressive destruction of forest, especially at higher altitudes, where natural regeneration does not occur as much as necessary. In addition, the species composition is limited to spruce, sometimes accompanied by beech and fir, whereas other species have a negligible share. What may be helpful in solving this problem is the method of regeneration of such areas and of establishment of under-canopy cultures, consisting of patchwork, multi-stage regeneration task performance, starting from the areas with the best chance of reforestation success and using the existing self-sown trees. Such areas undoubtedly include habitats with better water balance, i.e. humid habitats (in the case of larger areas, distinguished in the forest management plan as humid forest site types). The aim of the present study was to propose management of watercourses and headwater areas in the region of the Skrzyczne massif where the selected catchments are situated on the southern (the Malinowski Stream) and the northern (the Roztoka Czyrna stream) slopes of this massif. The research was carried out in August 2012 and included juxtaposition of available hydrological maps with actual field conditions along with identification of springs and streams and the course of their beds in order to update the existing data. The updating of the forest numerical maps in the existing databases of the State Forests IT System (SILP) included verification of the course of streams and determination of their nature (penament or periodic) with a division into the existing ones and the added ones. The data was recorded against the background of the division of the forest surface, contour lines, major roads, climate and plant floors and forest habitat types. The total length of streams was ascertained. The catchment areas and areas along their beds were determined by adopting variable distances from the beds, depending on climate and plant zones and the slope gradient. The adopted distances were: 5 m in the upper forest zone, 10 m in the middle forest zone, 20 m in the lower forest zone on both sides of the bed and in the headwater area within the radius of 10 m from a source. Specific sylvicultural procedures in headwater areas and in the neighbourhood of watercourses were described in each climatic and vegetation zones.

Investigations have been carried out on the soil material taken from 46 profiles representing lithogenic soils from non-forest areas of the Tatra National Park. When selecting soil material an altitude above sea level (over 1250 m a.s.l.), a rock parent type (non-calcareous and calcareous) were taken into account, in case of non calcerous soils, the weakly developed soils - rankers were selected. On the basis of the investigetions the following conclusions have been drawn: sorption properties of ectohumus horizons in most of investigated lithogenic soils (rankers and rendzinas) are differ- enciated and formed under the influence of parent rocks. Ectohumus of Oh horizons of rankers sorbed exchangeable cations in following order H+>Ca2+≥Mg2+>K+>Na+. In composition of cations in Oh horizons of rendzinas dominated cations of calcium and the order was as follows: Ca2+>Mg2+>H+>K+≥Na+. In ectohumus of Oh horizons of rendzinas occurring under bilberry heath and pine dwarf and rankers the composition of exchangeable ions as well as a degree of base saturation were close. In investigated soils sorption properties of mineral or organic-mineral horizons AC or ABC, occurring in direct contact with the parent rock, were formed under the influence of lithogenic factor.

The study was conducted in the year 2010 in the Łysogóry Mts. in Świętokrzyski National Park. Spring water samples were collected in three rounds. The first round was carried out after the period of snowmelt (March/ April 2010), the second – after intensive rainfall (May 2010) and the third – when water levels were low (July 2010). The data set attained concerned conductivity, water pH, and also concentrations of the foremost anions (Cl-, NO3 -, SO4 2-) and cations (NH4 +, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+). Spring water quality was assessed in line with Polish policy on groundwater (Regulation of the Minister of Environment of 23 July 2008, The results confirmed that spring water quality strongly depended on wet acid deposition and the geological structure. Tree species (fir and beech), exposition and soil types within the alimentation area did not influence water chemistry. Spring water were found in low quality classes according to Polish standards due to low water pH as well as high NO3 - and NH4 + concentration.

Opis:
Small river basins are complex self-regulatory systems, as well as indicators of the state of the environment due to the level of anthropogenic pressure. Since any changes in the regime of small rivers are reflected in the entire hydrographic chain, the problem of estimating the anthropogenic load on small rivers of Ukraine is relevant for modern hydrochemistry and hydroecology. The main sources of water pollution are industrial and domestic effluents, which increase the inflow of pesticides, heavy metal ions, etc. Aquatic ecosystems of small rivers are subject to intense mechanical and biochemical effects, and about 80% of pollutants are washed into water bodies. Water bodies located on the territory or near large cities and urban areas are particularly exposed to man-made pollution. In the territory of the Dniester river basin, natural landscapes are maximally preserved in comparison with other regions of Western Ukraine, but in modern conditions we observe an increase in the negative anthropogenic impact on the quality of natural waters. Hydrodynamic barriers or hydrodynamically active areas (HAA) of mountain rivers, which are significantly saturated with oxygen in the water flow, which activates the processes of biochemical and biological self-cleaning of natural waters, are important to increase the efficiency of self-purification processes. Natural biological cleaning of pollutants in small rivers is highly effective due to the overgrowth of aquatic vegetation. The aim of the work was to establish the ability of the aquatic ecosystem of a small river to self-purify on the basis of hydrochemical indicators of water quality. The compliance with sanitary and hygienic requirements of hydrochemical indicators of Kolodnytsia river water of the right tributary of the Dniester was analyzed and possible regularities of their changes were established, as well as the main factors of anthropogenic impact on a small river and the possibility of laboratory modeling of such rivers. It was found that in the Kolodnytsia River the processes of self-cleaning are quite active, which are caused by the hydrological characteristics of the river and the presence of hydrodynamically active areas in the foothills of the basin. Therefore, at present there is no steady excess of pollutants relative to the MPC.

Preliminary investigations on application of 3 feed kinds in additional feeding of mountain sheep lambs maintained on the pasture: standard CJ mixture, barley and dried maize, were carried out. Among these feeds only barley can be produced in the respective region. The aim was to improve the pasture feeding efficiency by reduction of consumption of nutrient elements of the green fodder per the weight gain unit and consequently a further production intensification. The best effects have been reached at additional feeding with the CJ mixture, manifesting themselves in significantly higher body weight gains at lower expenditures for 1 kg of these gains. The weakest effects were obtained at additional feeding with dried maize, what practically would eliminate this fodder from the diet of lambs and ewes in this region.

Porównano zawartość azotanów w fazie ciekłej spływu powierzchniowego z 5 różnych użytków (ugór nienawożony, mieszanka koniczyny i tymotki, pszenżyto ozime, burak pastewny, ugór nawożony) położonych na stokach o nachyleniu 7 i 16% w rejonie górskim (Czyrna) i wyżynnym (Mydlniki) w latach 2003-2004.
The content of nitrates in liquid phase of the surface runoff from 5 different kind of arable lands (unfertilized fallow, meadow clover and timothy mixture, winter triticale, fodder beet and fertilized fallow) situated on the slopes with 7 and 16% inclination in mountain (Czyrna) and upland (Mydlniki) regions in 2003-2004 were compared. Nitrates concentration in runoffs depended on the amount, intensity and date of precipitation in relation to fertilizer application, slope gradient, kind of arable land and soil covering by vegetation. Many times higher NO₃-N concentrations in both locations were stated in 2003 as a result of long term drought periods and intensive rainfall immediately after ammonium nitrate application. Despite similar total amount of precipitation, considerably larger NO₃ concentrations contained the runoffs in mountain than in upland region. In 2004 nitrates concentrations in runoffs in both regions were more similar, though still higher in mountain than in upland region. Larger runoffs from slope with 16% gradient in Mydlniki had usually higher nitrates concentrations, however in Czyrna, on average, more nitrate contained runoffs from slope of 7% gradient. In both regions the highest NO₃ concentrations were noted in runoffs from fertilized fallow or fodder beet cultivation, and the smallest ones from unfertilized fallow. In upland region the differences of nitrate concentrations in runoff from all fertilized lands were visibly smaller. Clover with timothy mixture and winter triticale to largest extent reduced nitrate concentrations in runoffs because of good soil covering by vegetation. Runoff nitrate concentration surpassed their contents in waters sensitive to eutrophication, but according to „Nitrate Directive” one may pass to polluted waters only the runoffs after precipitation in May and June 2003.

Specific, humid climate of mountain areas has a great influence on the properties of soils and vegetation, as well as on the mutual relations between these inseparable elements of ecosystems. Research on the interdependence between soils and natural vegetation was carried out on ' the mountain meadows of the Bieszczady National Park. In conditions of the cooler and more humid mountain climate the peculiar character of the soils lies in the presence of organic surface horizon of properties varying considerably from the properties of deeper mineral horizons. This horizon is of great importance in the protection of scarce elements. It prevents pollutants from reaching the ecosystem. It influences the soil water economy. It prevents erosion. This buffer element of the mountain soils requires special protection - in the Bieszczady Mountains the erosion of the mountain meadow soils is only noticeable where the covering vegetation and the organic surface soil horizon were destroyed, e.g. on tourist tracks. The plants of the Bieszczady mountain meadows, together with their direct product - the organic surface soil horizon, prevents the chemical erosion of the mountain meadows, reducing the leaching of many biogenous elements, e.g. calcium.

The aim of the paper is identification of the relationship between the amount of expenditure for tourism born by mountain communes (gminas) in Poland and intensity of tourist traffic in their areas. The analysis of tourist traffic in mountain communes in Poland in the first place allowed to establish that an average intensity of tourist traffic is greater than generally in Poland. The observation does not refer to the whole of the analyzed area, since tourist traffic reveals a very high concentration, reaching extreme cases in the communes where not a single tourist used bed-places. Registered increase in tourist traffic intensity did not apply to the whole area of mountain communes in Poland. Mountain communes only to some extent get involved in realization of expenditure on tourism - less than half of communes participated in them in 2009 and only few communes spent considerable amounts of money. Average expenditure from commune budgets on tourism, both total and per one tourist using bed places in mountain communes, were higher than the average for all communes in Poland.None of the applied methods of identification of correlative dependence allowed to establish its occurrence on a significant level, therefore the number of tourists in mountain communes in Poland does not directly depend on the amount of expenditure on tourism realized by these communes.

Opis:
This study is an attempt to assess the development of agricultural, rural and mountain areas in Poland from 1918 to 2012 with regard to structural policy conceived as a part of the agricultural policy. The paper describes the methodology and organizational requirements for modernizing or creating new investment process that would shape and develop rural areas. Under Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) implemented in Poland mountain and hilly areas were designated for development. However, financial support for these regions is minimal. Rural and especially mountain areas of Małopolska have very disadvantageous agrarian structure. The economical size of about 86% of farms does not exceed 2 on the ESU scale. The agricultural and forest production areas have marginal significance in spatial development plans of the communes. This is the reason why these areas require new land management programs, which should be preceded by a thorough analysis of the status quo. Engagement of citizens, village councils and community authorities united under the banner of "Family + Tradition + Education + Innovation" is required in the elaboration process of these programs. These engineering projects should be financed through the CAP and cohesion policy funds.

Opis:
During the Elsterian Glaciation, the Scandinavian Ice Sheet, before reaching its maximum extent, advanced over the mountainous foreland of Southern Poland, which was characterized by a substrate of increasingly varied relief. One such area was the hilly Rybnik Plateau of the southern part of the Racibórz–Oświęcim Basin, located directly north of the Ostrava Basin and Moravian Gate, where the ice sheet advanced far south and formed a large lobe. In this study, till from the Łaziska site, located in southern part of the Rybnik Plateau, was analysed and interpreted. The till was deposited at the top of an W–E oriented ridge composed of Neogene clays. The study indicates that a high basal water pressure occurred at the base of the ice sheet, favouring a basal mechanism of ice sheet movement. Till fabric and kinematic structures indicate that ice flowed easily from the west over the ridge, parallel to its axis. Reconstructed patterns of ice flow direction reflect an ice sheet that was characterized by a strong spatially varied dynamics. The Odra Valley was the main corridor of fast flowing ice to the Ostrava Basin, from where ice was distributed radially in different directions. The second corridor of actively flowing ice was probably located in the Ruda palaeovalley to the north of the Rybnik Plateau. In the central part of the Rybnik Plateau, ice flow was restricted. This less dynamic ice sheet behaviour resulted mostly from the much higher location of the area. This study indicates that the large morphological and lithological variations of the ice sheet substrate induced varied frictional resistance, producing a spatially varied stress field within the ice sheet. This generated active zones of streaming ice adjacent to more passive zones. Potential switching between neighbouring active zones transporting ice towards the ice sheet margin is postulated.
