Opis:
Aluminium foams are a new group of materials used for impact energy absorbing elements. They are light (typically 10-25% of the density of the metal they are made of) and stiff, and are frequently proposed as a light weight structural material. That is why they often are applied in automotive and transport industry solutions, for example as parts of bumpers. The methods of numerical modelling for open and closed cell aluminium foams are presented in the paper as well as closed and open cellfoam microstructure model. The numerical models of foam ideal microstructures created with shell finite elements are shown. The models were developed on the basis of Kefain tetrakaidecahedrons - structures consisting of six squares and eight hexagons. In the case of closed cell foams, the polyhedron with full walls was adopted. In the case of open cell foams the circle wholes were removed from polyhedron surfaces. Then the numerical analysis of a created models compressive test was carried out with the usage of LS Dyna computer code. The nonlinear procedures were applied. The results were analyzed in the scope of energy absorbing properties of aluminium foams.

Opis:
Numerical simulations of tension and shear tests for a polycrystalline, anisotropic material were performed using crystal plasticity theory. The slip was considered here as the main mechanism of plastic deformation. Constitutive equations to describe the elastic-plastic deformation caused by the slip are presented. The generation and meshing of various shapes geometries (cubic and paddy shapes) with randomly-orientated grains by means of open source program NEPER program was shown. The Voronoi tessellation was used in order to include morphological properties of a crystalline material. The selected results of elastic-plastic analyses (stress, strain distributions and the macroscopic stress-strain resulting from homogenization) are presented here. The results obtained show the non-uniform distribution of stress and strain for different grains associated with their crystal orientation. The crystal plasticity finite element modelling of materials subjected to plastic deformation is important for microstructure-based mechanical predictions, as well as for the engineering design and to perform simulations involving not only the change of a material’s shape at a macro level but also the phenomena occurring in material in a micro-scale.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki modelowania numerycznego procesu kucia matrycowego na gorąco odkuwki typu rozwidlonego stosowanej w układzie kierowniczym realizowanego na prasie korbowej. Głównym celem analizy było wykorzystanie modelowania numerycznego do analizy i poprawy przemysłowego procesu wytwarzania odkuwki. Termomechaniczny model kucia odkuwki z odkształcalnymi narzędziami opracowano przy użyciu oprogramowania Forge NX 2.0. Do zbudowania modeli narzędzi kuźniczych wykorzystano program Catia.
The paper presents the results of numerical modeling of the forging hot forging process of the yoke type forging used in the steering system realized on the crank press. The main purpose of the analysis was to use computer simulation to analyze and improve the industrial forging process. The thermomechanical model of forging process with deformable tools was developed using the Forge NX 2.0 software. Catia program was used to build models of forging tools. As a result of the modeling obtained, inter alia: temperature distributions and plastic deformations for the forging (taking into account thermally activated phenomena), as well as grain size changes and forging forces. The obtained results allow for a full analysis of the forging process, including: identification of potential forging defects (overlaps) and the influence of time and temperature of deformation on the grain size in the forging material, which in the future may allow using the forging heat for the planned heat treatment and obtaining a specific microstructure.

Opis:
The article performs an analysis of a hot die forging process of producing an elongated forging ended with a joggle in a double system realized on a crank press Masey 1300 t, in open dies, in 3 operations. The thermomechanical model of the forging process considering the changes in the grain size and the forging material recrystallization was elaborated with the use of the calculation packet Qform 7. In the first place, an in-depth analysis of the currently realized forging technology was made, with a special consideration of the temperature changes in the tools as well as in the formed forging. Next, numerical modelling of the process was carried out, as a result of which the following were obtained: correct filling of the tool impressions by the deformed material, the temperature distributions for the forging and the tools, the plastic deformation distributions (considering the thermally activated phenomena), the changes in the grain size and the forging force courses. The results obtained from FEM enable a thorough analysis of the forging process, including: the effect of the deformation time and temperature on the grain size in the forging material, which was confirmed by the microstructure examination results.

Opis:
The article presents an analysis of the multi-operation hot die forging process, performed on a press, of producing a lever forging used in the motorcycles of a renowned producer by means of numerical simulations. The investigations were carried out in order to improve (perfect) the currently applied production technology, mainly due to the presence of forging defects during the industrial production process. The defects result mainly from the complicated shape of the forging (bent main axis, deep and thin protrusions, high surface diversity in the cross section along the length of the detail), which, during the filling of the die by the deformed material, causes the presence of laps, wraps and underfills on the forging. Through the determination of the key parameters/quantities during the forging process, which are difficult to establish directly during the industrial process or experimentally, a detailed and complex analysis was performed with the use of FEM as well as through microstructure examinations. The results of the performed numerical modelling made it possible to determine: the manner of the material flow and the correctness of the impression filling, as well as the distributions of temperature fields and plastic deformations in the forging, and also to detect the forging defects often observed in the industrial process. On this basis, changes into the process were introduced, making it possible to improve the currently realized technology and obtain forgings of the proper quality as well as shape and dimensions.

Opis:
Friction Stir Processing (FSP) is a novel solid state processing technique which can be used for microstructural modification of surface layers in metallic materials. This paper analyzes the effects of FSP process parameters on spindle torque acting on the tool and on the tool temperature. It has been shown that an increase in the rotational speed brings about a decrease in the torque and an increase of temperature. For temperature estimation in the stir zone a numerical model was applied, while for predicting a relationship between the spindle torque acting on the tool, rotational and travelling speeds and the down force, the artificial neural networks approach was employed. Light and electron (scanning and transmission) microscopy investigation showed that the FSP process reduces porosity and produces a more uniform distribution of second-phase particles.

A problem of free vibrations of medium thickness microstructured plates, which can be treated as made of functionally graded material on the macrolevel is presented. The size of the microstructure of these plates is of an order of the plate thickness. Averaged governing equations of these plates can be obtained using the tolerance modelling technique, cf. [18, 19, 9]. Because, the derived tolerance model equations have the terms dependent of the microstructure size, this model describes the effect of the microstructure size. Results can be evaluated introducing the asymptotic model. Calculated results can be compared to those from the finite element method or a similar tolerance model of thin plates, cf. [9].

Opis:
In this paper there are presented free vibrations of thin functionally graded plate band. This kind of plates has tolerance-periodic microstructure on the microlevel in planes parallel to the plate midplane. Dynamic problems of plates of this kind are described by partial differential equations with highly oscillating, tolerance-periodic, non-continuous coefficients. Thus, there are proposed here two models describing these plates by equations with smooth, slowly-varying coefficients. As an example there are analyses of free vibration frequencies for thin functionally graded plate band clamped on both edges. Using the known Ritz method the frequencies are obtained in the framework of proposed two models - the tolerance model and the asymptotic model.

The objects under consideration are thin visco-elastic periodic plates with moderately large deflections. Geometrically nonlinear vibrations of these plates are investigated. In order to take into account the effect of microstructure size on behaviour of these plates a non- -asymptotic modelling method is proposed. Using this method, called the tolerance modelling, model equations with constant coefficients involving terms dependent on the microstructure size can be derived. In this paper, only theoretical considerations of the problem of nonlinear vibrations of thin visco-elastic periodic plates resting on a foundation with damping are presented.

Opis:
The paper discusses issues related to the technology of melting and processing of copper alloys. An assessment was made of the impact of titanium and iron introduced in the form of pre-alloy - Ti73Fe master alloy on the microstructure and selected properties of pure copper and copper-silicon alloy. There are known examples of the use of titanium and iron additive to the copper alloy. Titanium as an additive introduced to copper alloys to improve their properties is sometimes also applicable. In the first stage of the study, a series of experimental castings were conducted with variable content of Ti73Fe master alloy entering copper in quantities of 5 %, 15 %, 25 % in relation to the mass of the metal charge. In the second stage, a silicon additive was introduced into copper in the amount of about 4 % by weight and 0.5 % and 1 % respectively of the initial Ti73Fe alloy. Thermodynamic phase parameters were modelled using CALPHAD method and Thermo-Calc software, thus obtaining the crystallization characteristics of the test alloys and the percentage of structural components at ambient temperature. Experiments confirmed the validity of the use of Ti73Fe master alloy as an additive. The pre-alloy used showed a favourable performance, both in terms of addition solubility and in the area of improvement of strength properties. Changes were achieved in the microstructure, mainly within the grain, but also in the developed dendrites of the solid solution. Changes occur with the introduction of titanium with iron into copper as well as to two-component silicon bronze.

The paper is focused on an application of the cellular automata (CA) method to description of microstructure changes in continuous deformation condition. The model approach consists of Cellular Automata model of microstructure development and the thermal-mechanical finite element (FE) code. Dynamic recrystallization phenomenon is taken into account in 2D CA model which takes advantage of explicit representation of microstructure, including individual grains and grain boundaries. Flow stress is the main material parameter in mechanical part of FE and is calculated on the basis of average dislocation density obtained from the CA model. The results obtained from the model were validated with the experimental data. In the present study, austenitic steel X3CrNi18-10 was investigated. The examination of microstructure for the initial and final microstructures was carried out, using light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and EBSD technique. Compression forces were recorded during the tests and flow stresses were determined using the inverse method.

The mathematical model of coupled mechano-higro-thermal processes taking place in porous building materials considering the kinetics of water freezing is presented in the article. Cycling freezing of water in the pore system causes the concentration of tensile stress, which could result in the cracks development. The change of microstructure was analysed by means of multi-cycling mercury porosimetry, which allows to investigate the cumulative pore size distribution and the contribution of ink-bottle type pores. The developed mathematical model was solved using finite element, finite difference and Newton-Raphson method.
