Opis:: The aim of the research was to verify whether there exists a relationship between the increase of perceived stress in its various aspects and the parental attitudes of parents of adults with intellectual disabilities as well as a comparison if the relationship also exists among parents of intellectually healthy people. The research used the The Perception of Stress Questionaire by Mieczysław Plopa and Ryszard Makarowski and the Parental Attitudes Scale by Mieczysław Plopa. The research embraced 39 parents of intellectually disabled people and 85 parents of healthy people. The analyses have proven that the parents of the disabled people and of the people without intellectual disabilities with regards to the displayed parental attitudes and the level of the perceived stress. The former are characterized by an intensifi cation of a demanding attitude and a higher level of perceiving the intrapsychic stress which was not observable among the latter. Moreover, differences with regards to the perceived stress have been noticed between the mothers and the fathers of healthy people – the mothers reveal a stronger feeling of emotional tension than the fathers. Similar it proved among the mothers and fathers of intellectually disabled people where it is also mothers who experience stronger emotional tension, intrapsychic and external stress. In the light of the conducted studies a general conclusion may be drawn that the level of the stress perceived by the parents of the people with disabilities is signifi cantly connected with their displayed parental attitudes, namely: protectiveness, inconsequence. In case of the parents of the healthy people such a relationship concerned only the protective attitude.

Opis:: Te disabled - the same or diferent? A photograph as the form of self-report of people sufering from intellectual disabilities Te subject of discussion are the results of research in the feld of visual anthropology of people with intellectual disabilities. A photograph taken as a form of self-report was used as a method. People from the research group were using cameras to present what seemed to be important in their life. Te results are grouped into several categories, including Family, Home, Nature, Pets, etc. Te results suggest a strong bond and intensity of the relationship with the environment as well as aesthetic sensitivity .

Opis:: Experiencing institutions by adults with mental retardation still evokes controversy in literature. The study presents the results of the research on the analysis of narratives by long-term care centre workers. The reality they experienced revealed ‘subjective truth’ about adult lives of mentally retarded people. The analysis of the narratives showed both the personnel’s work which can support, initiate and create adult lives in institution and work which can impair people’s functioning to such an extent that they become passive, withdrawn and isolated. More often mentally retarded adults in institutions experience limitations which affect their lives and create them according to a particular pattern. The lives of adults with mental retardation depend on personnel’s approach and attitude towards a group.

Opis:: W niniejszej publikacji zaprezentowano fragmenty programu profilaktyczno-rewalidacyjnego skierowanego do dzieci z upośledzeniem umysłowym w stopniu lekkim. Opierając się na literaturze przedmiotu wyjaśniono pojęcia: profilaktyka, rewalidacja i upośledzenie. W zasadniczej części artykułu przytoczono scenariusze działań, które osadzono w pięciu sferach rozwojowych, a mianowicie w płaszczyźnie: umysłowej, fizycznej, psychicznej, emocjonalnej i społecznej. Przybliżono też cele, zadania, metody, formy i ukazano sposób organizacji oraz ewaluacji opisywanych działań. Wskazano na potrzebę indywidualnego podejścia do ucznia z upośledzeniem umysłowym oraz uświadomienia nauczycielom i wychowawcom specyficznych potrzeb edukacyjnych dzieci z upośledzeniem. W końcowej części publikacji wysunięto wnioski istotne dla praktyki pedagogicznej.
This publication presents excerpts from preventive and revalidation programme aimed at children with mild mental retardation. Basing on the subject literature, such notions as prevention, revalidation and retardation were explained. The main part of the article presents scenarios of preventive and revalidation actions embedded in five development areas, which are: mental, physical, psychic, emotional and social. Aims, tasks, methods and forms were presented. The way of organizing and evaluating actions described above was shown. The need of individual approach to students with mental retardation was suggested, as well as the need of making teachers and educators aware of special educational needs of such children. The final part of this publication presents conclusions significant for pedagogical practice.

Opis:: Rekreacja i turystyka jest jedną z niewielu dziedzin edukacji zdrowotnej, w której możliwa jest tak sprawna i skuteczna integracja upośledzonych umysłowo, a także współpraca pomiędzy młodszym i starszym pokoleniem. Wspólne spotkania i wyjazdy integrują ludzi i wzmacniają więzi społeczne. Poszczególne osoby są w stanie lepiej poznać swoje mocne i słabe strony, w działaniu zespołowym i we współzawodnictwie z innymi. W przypadku dzieci i młodzieży niepełnosprawnych jest jeszcze jedna bardzo ważna rola rekreacji i turystyki - zmiana postrzegania ludzi niepełnosprawnych przez zdrowych. Pozwala także na wyjście z zamkniętego środowiska i na zatarcie różnic między jednymi i drugimi. Pomaga pokonać bariery i kompleksy związane z byciem człowiekiem niepełnosprawnym. Jako forma rehabilitacji, promująca nowy styl życia, staje się elementem powszechnej świadomości i troski społecznej. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie historii i struktury Specjalnego Ośrodka Szkolno-Wychowawczego w Tarnowie oraz sposobów kultywowania wśród dzieci niepełnosprawnych umysłowo wielu aktywnych form spędzania wolnego czasu poprzez rekreację, turystykę i krajoznawstwo.
Recreation and tourism belong to those few fields of heath education that enable such quick and efficient integration of the mentally handicapped, as well as cooperation between the younger and older generations. Common meetings and trips integrate people, as well as strengthen social bonds. Individuals are able to learn more about their strong and weak points, by means of group actions and competition with others. In case of children and teenagers, tourism and recreation play one more crucial role - they change the perception of handicapped people by healthy ones. Besides, they enable the former to get out of closed surroundings, as well as blur differences between the former and the latter. They help to overcome the barriers and complexes connected with being handicapped. As a form of rehabilitation promoting new lifestyle, recreation and tourism are becoming an element of common awareness and social care. The aim of this dissertation is to show the history and structure of the Special Educational and Pedagogical Centre in Tarnów, as well as the development of many active forms of spending free time among handicapped children by means of recreation and tourism.

Opis:: The article discusses the issue of the development of professional interests of young people with mental retardation. A review of selected theories help to understand better the dynamics and the regularity of this development, which allows an individual approach to each intellectually disabled person who takes professional life. Analysis of the determinants of professional development can be helpful not only in vocational guidance, but should also be interested to employers who employ people with mental disabilities. It turns out that the most appropriate to this group of people is emphasized by the parameter satisfaction instrumental theory and the theory of adaptation to work. The needs theories explain the motivational aspect of the profession, and pay attention to the inalienable right of deciding about himself as a person with a disability.

Opis:: Niepełnosprawność intelektualna, dotycząca 2-3% populacji ogólnej krajów Europy Zachodniej, jest istotnym problemem medycznym i społecznym. Praca przedstawia historię badań nad niepełnosprawnością intelektualną: XIX-wieczne teorie, oparte na obserwacji klinicznej, konsekwencje ruchu eugenicznego pierwszej połowy XX wieku i dynamiczny rozwój genetyki, umożliwiający obecnie prowadzenie badań podłoża upośledzenia umysłowego na poziomie cząsteczki DNA.
Mental retardation, concerning 2-3% of the general population in Western countries, is a serious medical and social problem. The paper presents the history of studies concerning mental retardation: the early theories based on clinical observations, the consequences of eugenic t ideology and a dynamic progress in medical genetics that provided tools for investigating the causes of mental retardation at the level of DNA molecule.

Opis:: This article describes the directions of the development of speech of children with moderate and severe mental retardation, corrective measures described in the structure of classes of impressive speech, expressive speech and nonverbal communication. Working with language development of children with moderate and severe mental retardation is made from a variety of areas, of which, according to the level of child selected their top priority at the moment: the development of expressive speech, development impressive speech, development of non-verbal communication and so on. Proposed corrective actions below can be used for all children with mental and physical development, given their individual capabilities. In the process, children can learn the following skills: work together with adults, perform tasks for imitation and example, to express their desires by means of verbal and nonverbal communication, call or show by pointing gesture, object, toy, picture (objects, actions, attributes) image of letters, of words or based on his previous proceeding, subject to correlate with the desired word, the first letter, from which the word is written, find pictures, articles, which have investigated sound, write in block letters, words, using the preliminary analysis, and with adult; correctly pronounce certain sounds, syllables, words and phrases.

Opis:: The article is dedicated to the problem of formation of spatial semantic-symbolic knowledge system of children with moderate and severe mental retardation. The peculiarities of assimilation spatial semantic-symbolic knowledge system (henceforth we use abbreviation: spatial semantic-symbolic knowledge system - SSSKS) children with moderate to severe mental retardation (henceforth we use abbreviation: moderate to severe mental retardation - MSMR) based on the review of general and special pedagogical, psychological and methodological literature, analysis of practices are revealed in the article. The described principles formed the basis of educational and correctional programs. As the level of cognitive capabilities children with MSMR (8-12 years) approximately is such as the level of preschool children with typical development and potentials for assimilation of knowledge we proposed a brief analysis of Ukrainian software development of preschool children. The study of spatial sequence of signs and symbols and their themes is identified in the article. According to the results of this work the indicative model is identified which reflects the levels of difficulty of signs and symbols and offered to study at each age period, the skills and knowledge are given.
