Opis:
This article discusses issues of forming and developing media skills in children in a family setting. Research on the role of media (mainly television) in a child’s life has been conducted for many years and indicates a necessity to develop a child’s media skills early (Izdebska, 1996, 2007; Kossowski 1999; Braun-Gałkowska 2003). There is a shortage of data on the role of parents in preparing children for formal media education (at school or preschool). It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that a child’s first contact with media is handled properly. In light of this, the following questions arise: Do parents know about the risks, and also opportunities, resulting from the use of media by children? Do they teach children how to choose which media to use and manage the amount of time spent doing it? Do they teach children proper ways of using media for play? I attempt answering these questions by referencing opinions of media experts, psychologists and educators on the topic of media influence (“media childhood”), the significance of media education in developing media literacy in children, and by presenting the conclusions of my research that inspire further insightful analyses into media education of children at home.

Opis:
Indirect education found and is still finding its source in various media for a long time. Technological advancement results in the educators having an increased ability to use new tools in education. The goal remains the same but the social conditions impose a new identity – the subject teacher evolves into a media one. In the school system, necessary corrections have been introduced to the most important documents and the curricula, but there is still a lack of knowledge on what media education looks like in practice in specific national realities. The review article shows how goals determined by the curricula are already realized through new media in Poland and for which goals the didactic activities should be expanded. In the thematic block concerning physical activity, there is an entry: “The contents of this area have been enriched with modern forms of movement, physical activities from other European countries and use of modern technologies to monitor and plan physical activity” (MEN, 2017: 191). When organizing activities in the classroom area and with the right equipment, conducting lessons with the use of the media is not a problematic task. But are the PE teachers in a similarly comfortable position? It turns out that the development of information technology is conducive to the achievement of the objectives of this subject as well. The literature review and the solutions used so far in the school system are the basis for the thesis of a correlation between the ways in which modern media are used and the formation of the students’ attitudes towards physical culture.

Opis:
Development of modern-day media has a significant impact on many aspects of the human life. It is based on intensive technological changes that take place in media. They are a challenge for the researcher and a chance for the social life animateurs. Research on the importance of media for education has been conducted for many years. Their socialisation impact on the young generation is recognised and examined in many forms. Nonetheless, the paradigms that are adopted when conducting these studies need to be revised. New technologies change the nature of this socialisation impact. This paper attempts to revise these paradigms: treatment of the young users of new technologies as more competent in using them, unconditional recognition of technology as a tool to acquire knowledge, direction of media transformation. Pedagogy should take into account new paradigms to help a young adolescent to find himself/herself in the educational environment being highly saturated with new technologies, and, from the one hand, protect from completely new dangers and, from the other one, use the opportunity being provided by them.

Aim. The study aims to identify and compare the sending of own and somebody else’s intimate photos and videos and to point out the importance of media education as a meaningful way of preventing sexting. Methods. The research tool was an online self-designed questionnaire. 250 respondents aged 15 to 19 participated in the research. Results. The research has shown that sending their own photos and somebody else’s photos are equally frequent. Differences are only noticeable in average values. The findings offer an overview of sending sexually explicit photos and indicate decreased shyness, and a greater desire to attract attention through their own naked photos or videos. In the case of sending somebody else’s photos, it is a matter of ridiculing the victim without his/her consent. Conclusions. Primarily, the importance of media education ought to be pointed out, as it provides information about the dangers of publishing such photos and videos, and develops critical thinking and media literacy in children, which is key for the safeguarding of online space. We see the importance and significance of the study especially in the prevention of sexting through media education, which could be the primary means of eliminating it.

The aim of this article is to present the results of the research into the reception of Oscarwinning movies among teenagers (lower and upper secondary school students). Three movies, namely Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Reader were the favourites of the young viewers. The students watched the films attentively and were able to present and justify their choices and opinions. The results of the survey created quite a coherent and homogenous picture of the movies. It seems that the students’ interest in the cinema and the capability of critical thinking derive from the media education provided by the school.

The transition from industrialism to informationism, and the creation of a global economy, a new type of society and culture, starts a new phase of development, related to the revolution of information technologies and knowledge-based economy. The world is entering a new era, an information era generated by the information technology revolution and the rapid development of science and education. On our eyes we can see the rising global network society, completely opened to social communication of virtual communities, accepting cultural diversity, creating its own rules of social life, transnational, democratic, pictorial and audiovisual, collecting and processing information, working, paying bills online, investing, absorbing specialists with high digital and communication skills. All this poses new unimaginable challenges to education on a global scale, as it is faced with absolutely new demands and tasks, expressed by the global economy, multinational corporations, virtual culture, national values and the tensions of globalization.

He also discusses the usage of new media technologies in teaching. He claims that concentrating on media or information literacy which is evolving due to the usage of new multimedia technologies is nowadays one of the most important challenges for educators. The author concludes his considerations with a statement: ‘I would say that the best media education in the future will be one in which it will not exist. It means that the whole system of education would define media education as a set of skills, knowledge and practices essential for all types of human activity in the 21st century. It would result in media education being a main element in the creation of a new school in a postmodern world’.

Social media has been inseparably linked to the daily lives of adolescents for several decades. In social and scientific discourse, we often hear that they are considered one of the significant factors responsible for the observed increase in mental health problems among young people in recent decades. Therefore, understanding the impact of these media on the mental well-being of young individuals has become a priority. For this purpose, a systematic review of research on the relationship between adolescents' use of social media and their mental health was conducted. The systematic review was carried out following the PRISMA standards. Its aim was to identify all studies exploring the association between adolescents' engagement in social media use and the state of their mental health, specifically targeting individuals aged 12-18 years. The EBSCOhost search engine was employed for this purpose, and databases such as Academic Search Ultimate, Education Source Ultimate, Applied Science & Technology Source Ultimate, Medline, Eric, and APA PsycArticle were searched from May to June 2023, aiming to identify studies published between 2013 and 2023. A total of 25 articles were identified from 16,787 records and subjected to evaluation. The results presented in these articles did not provide clear evidence for a linear, strong, and positive association between adolescents' use of social media and the occurrence of mental health problems. The majority of the evaluated research projects had several limitations, therefore it seems justified to conduct further studies with significantly improved measurement procedures, which could yield valuable and clinically relevant data on the relationship between social media use and the mental health of young individuals.

The purpose of this literature study is to obtain information about educational approaches to teaching 11 to 12 years old children focusing on how to distinguish between real news and fake news. With this purpose we studied 16 academic papers about learning activities to make primary school children media-literate and able to recognise fake news. What we found is that having children create their own news messages seems to be the most effective approach. News messages that they create can be text messages as well as videos, audios, pictures and animations. Based on this conclusion, students from The Hague University of Applied Sciences Teacher Training Institute (PABO) have been asked to develop a set of learning materials that can be used for instruction in primary schools. The effectiveness of those materials is currently being tested at an elementary school in Rijswijk. The results of the literature and the field study will be shared in the Dutch centre of expertise for media literacy education, Mediawijzer.ne.

Thanks to media the world has become a global village. Media have tremendous influence on the perception of reality. Hence, we should focus on media education. Besides it is worth noting an interdisciplinary aspect of media studies because in the world of social communication journalistic celebrities are going to become more and more popular. Among them there are many media workers who want to take shortcuts to promotion nonchalantly and without sufficient genuine knowledge. For that reason instead of getting stuck in passivity, frustration and empty discussions we should get involved in the formation of schools, universities and departments focusing on media education and intelligent message reception.

The interview is focused on the key issues concerning the development of media literacy in the Czech Republic as well as the entire world. It focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of the implementation of media education within the conditions of Czech education, while considering the limits as well as challenges, which teachers and academics trying to get students acquainted with the media world have to face. Important parts of media literacy policies are the conceptual, methodological and theoretical materials that can have a significant impact on the successful establishment of media education in both school and out-of-school education. The interview highlights that even such conceptual materials and tools are subject to rapid obsolescence and it is necessary to continuously innovate and complement them, so that they can reflect the very dynamic development of the media as well as constant changes in the preferences or behaviour of the audience members. These arguments should also be taken into account when preparing future journalists and other media professionals, as well as in dealing with the issue of hybrid threats and fake news.

Its tools and clear terminology allow for both theoretical and empirical analysis of many aspectspertaining to the specificity of human functioning in the world of new media. The article shows the possibilities of its application and presents a review of previous theoretical and empirical initiatives that deal with this issue.

The aim of this study is to present the selected findings of a research into the cooperation of The News Agency of the Slovak Republic with individual types of schools in the Slovak Republic, as well as to create a systematic overview of the current state and trends in this area. We have decided to examine the topic and illustrate its relation to individual types of schools in Slovakia as, within the conditions of the Slovak Republic, it still remains an unexplored area. This is one of the first comprehensive research tasks in Slovakia, which attempts to answer the questions concerning press agencies and schools within the context of media literacy development. The aim of this study is to analyze the cooperation of The News Agency of the Slovak Republic with individual types of school in Slovakia over the period of 2012-2016. We focus on the quantitative and qualitative analyses of secondary data created in the reviewed period within the framework of this cooperation. The second aim of the study is to present the results of research carried out at primary and elementary schools, the aim of which was to find out about the ways educational institutions utilize the services of the press agency within the concept of learning-by-doing when teaching media education. The research sample consisted of 2,164 elementary schools and 794 secondary schools from all regions of the Slovak Republic. We addressed these schools with an 11-item questionnaire examining the quantitative and qualitative aspects of cooperation with the public service News Agency of the Slovak Republic. At the same time, we analyzed the data created within this cooperation over the years 2012-2016. The news service provided by The News Agency of the Slovak Republic represents a tool used at Slovak primary schools, especially in the preparation of school media, as well as at teaching media education and other subjects. Nevertheless, the intensity of its use is undersized and there are still quite a number of schools that do not use this valuable service in their educational activities at all.

It can be observed that the sexualization of media messages and the associated related objectification, mainly of women, has been gaining momentum in recent years. These phenomena influence the functioning of women, including, among other things, the perception of their bodies and the actions and activities theyundertake. The exploitation of women as sexual objects is particularly often used in advertising. The article’s purpose is to describe this phenomenon and possible forms of support and education, especially for young women.

Opis:
From the outset, Italian education has been interested in the message of films and cinema’s power of persuasion. Prior to the advent of television, education viewed cinema with suspicion for the alleged damage it caused to the minds of young people. Later, it would view cinema as a means of fascist ideological propaganda. From the 1920s onwards, schools would use cinema as a teaching aid through the so-called “educational cinema”. Since 1960, schools have aimed to teach formal analysis and film content. On the threshold of the new millennium, the revolution in school autonomy obliged every educational institution to independently manage the financial resources allocated to them. This involved the arrival in schools of external experts who were entrusted with media education: they were supported by an internal tutor while the school coordinated the professionals who spe-cialized in cinema; meanwhile the subject teacher entered the Internet era with the innovation of the interactive whiteboard, assuming the role of multimedia author. Thus began the training of teachers within schools, who were registered on the national list of Visual Education Workers.
