Opis:
The progressive mechanization and automation of industrial equipment is the driving force of progress, not only in the field of production but also in the measuring and control equipment. In mold production, the automation of processes such as forming molds and cores along with their assembly has led to increases in serial production, reductions in defects, and the shortening of molding times, among others. Thanks to automation in mold and core departments and the use of all sorts of manipulators, mold production in foundries has gained momentum. Unfortunately, in addition to the mentioned advantages, there are also new challenges as to the quality and properties of the molding and core sands used in highly automated foundries. This article presents recent research on molding sand elasticity. The topic was introduced as an attempt to answer the new needs of highly mechanized foundries. The article discusses a new method of measuring the resistance of molding materials to undergoing mechanical deformation (molding sand elasticity), with an additional analysis of the bending strengths of the tested samples. Precise measurements, test sample preparation, and interpretation of the received results are presented in the article.

Opis:
Casting industry has been enriched with the processes of mechanization and automation in production. They offer both better working standards, faster and more accurate production, but also have begun to generate new opportunities for new foundry defects. This work discusses the disadvantages of processes that can occur, to a limited extend, in the technologies associated with mould assembly and during the initial stages of pouring. These defects will be described in detail in the further part of the paper and are mainly related to the quality of foundry cores, therefore the discussion of these issues will mainly concern core moulding sands. Four different types of moulding mixtures were used in the research, representing the most popular chemically bonded moulding sands used in foundry practise. The main focus of this article is the analysis of the influence of the binder type on mechanical and thermal deformation in moulding sands.

Opis:
When the in-wheel motor is working, it will be affected by gravity, centrifugal force and electromagnetic force. These three kinds of mechanical loads will affect the mechanical stress characteristics of the in-wheel motor, and then affect the reliability of the in-wheel motor structure. In order to understand the influence of the above loads on the mechanical stress of the in-wheel motor, this paper takes a 15-kW built-in permanent magnet in-wheel motor as the research object. Based on the establishment of the electromagnetic field and structure field coupling analysis model of the in-wheel motor, the mechanical stress of the in-wheel motor under different mechanical loads under rated and peak conditions are calculated and analyzed, and the influence of different mechanical loads on the stress and deformation of the in-wheel motor are studied. The research results show that, regardless of the rated operating condition or the peak operating condition, the in-wheel motor has the largest mechanical stress and deformation under the combined action of centrifugal force and electromagnetic force, and the smallest mechanical stress and deformation under the action of gravity only; under the same load (except for the case of gravity only), the stress and deformation of the in-wheel motor under the peak operating condition are larger than those under the rated operating condition; and the maximum stress and deformation of the in-wheel motor appear at the rotor magnetic bridge and the inner edge of the rotor, respectively, so the rotor is an easily damaged part of the in-wheel motor.

Opis:
Optimal design of engineering structures and technological processes requires taking into account various factors affecting the state of strain and stresses in the structure. Coupled thermo-mechanical analysis enables, among others, determination of undesirable changes in a body shape resulting from the implementation method of the initially-boundary conditions, for example, time-varying load and physical properties of the material depending on the temperature. They are also used to determine residual stresses remaining after manufacturing to prevent revalued stiffness and rigidity of the designed construction. In this study, coupled thermo-mechanical analysis illustrated by metal machining operation is presented. The commercial code MSC.Marc has been used to develop a coupled thermo-mechanical finite element model of plane-stress orthogonal metal cutting operations. Metal cutting is one of the most important and common manufacturing processes in the car industry. A thermal mechanical transient analysis is performed to convert mechanical work into heat by plastic deformation of the workpiece material and friction during metal machining operation. The finite element mesh distortion, due to large deformations, requires a remesh technique. The influence of parameters of the 2D and 3D finite element mesh adaptation on plastic deformation and temperature generated in the cutting processing is considered.

Opis:
In recent years, a number of methods for refining the structure of metals by severe plastic deformation (SPD) have been developed. Some of those methods permit grain refinement to a nanometric level. These methods include, among others, high pressure torsion (HPT), equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and hydrostatic extrusion (HE). The aim of this paper was a more detailed description of these methods and presentation of exemplary applications of these methods for structure refinement and improvement of mechanical properties of chosen materials. The results obtained in the present study show that the microstructures of the materials subjected to SPD studied in this work displayed considerable refinement, characterised by the formation of nanosized grains. Such a refinement resulted in increased tensile strength and hardness of the SPD materials studied in this work. In view of the results obtained on a large number of metals and alloys, a conclusion can be drawn that SPD could become an attractive way of processing materials for variety of applications.

Opis:
In the present paper, the effects of the subsequent extrusion after multi-pass equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) process on the mechanical properties and microstructure of WE43 magnesium alloy are investigated. First, second and fourth passes ECAP followed by an extrusion process are applied on WE43 magnesium alloy to refine the microstructure and to improve the mechanical properties for biomedical applications. The results showed that among the ECAPed samples, the highest and lowest strength were obtained in the second and the first pass processed samples, respectively. The four passes processed sample showe d the highest elongation to failure with moderate strength. The sample processed via first pass ECAP followed by extrusion exhibi ts an excellent combination of ductility and strength. The highest strength was obtained in the sample processed via the second pa ss ECAP followed by extrusion while the highest elongation was achieved in the sample processed via fourth pass ECAP followed by extrusion. Moreover, Vickers micro-indentation tests demonstrate that hardness is enhanced by an increase in the number of ECAP passes. Furthermore, a grain refinement process is presented for ECAP processing of WE43 alloy which shows a good agreement with microstructural investigations.

Opis:
The paper presents the effect of deformation temperature on the mechanical stability of retained austenite in a multiphase TRIP steel. Series of static tensile tests were carried out in the temperature range –20 to 140°C in order to simulate the temperatures occurring during stamping process of automotive steel sheets and conditions of their exploitation. Samples deformed at 20°C and 60°C showed the best combination of strength and ductility. It was related to the gradual transformation of retained austenite into martensite. Obtained results revealed that the intensity of TRIP effect is significantly related to the deformation temperature. The amount of retained austenite, which transformed into martensite during plastic deformation decreases as the deformation temperature increases. It was also found that the stability of retained austenite depends on its morphology. The obtained results showed the relationship between deformation temperature and the stability of retained austenite. The chemical composition and microstructure of multiphase steels dedicated to the automotive industry should be designed for providing the maximum TRIP effect at the specific deformation temperatures.

Opis:
The effect of temperature oxidation on micromechanical properties and the tribological behavior of the alloy Nb-Ti-Al has been investigated. The increasing of annealing temperature from 300 to 900 C leads to increasing of the internal stresses and microhardness in the micro/nanoscale of crystal lattice and reducing of the plasticity. The tribological properties of alloy after oxidation at temperature 500C are optimal. At this temperature dispersion strengthening of alloy creates a minimum internal pressure and provides good plasticity of surface.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań morfologii i mikrostruktury obszarów odkształconych dynamiczne w ostrzelanych pociskami płytkach z dwóch nowych gatunków stali nanokrystalicznych.
Results of investigation of morphology and microstructure in dynamically deformed areas of fired with projectiles plates made of new grades of nanocrystalline steels have been presented. Investigation was carried out on specimens of nanocomposite bainite – austenite steel (NBA steel) and ultrastrength maraging steel (MAR steel). Effects of firing at test plates of the nanocrystalline steels have been assessed. In the plates of the both steels tested by firing in areas close to edge of the crater structural features of matrix deformation were found. In the deformation areas adiabatic shear bands and microcracks formed. Average hardness of adiabatic shear bands in NBA steel is higher than average hardness of matrix of this steel while in MAR steel an opposite effect was found – average hardness of adiabatic shear bands was lower than average hardness of matrix of this steel.
