Opis:
One of the strategic decisions of any organization is decision making about manufacturing strategy. Manufacturing strategy is a perspective distinguishing a company from other present companies in that industry and creates a kind of stability in decisions and gives a special direction to organizational activities. SIR (SUPERIORITY& INFERIORITY Ranking) method and their applications have attracted much attention from academics and practitioners. FSIR proves to be a very useful method for multiple criteria decision making in fuzzy environments, which has found substantial applications in recent years. This paper proposes a FSIR approach based methodology for TOPSIS, which using MILTENBURG Strategy Worksheet in order to analyzing of the status of strategy of the Gas Company. Then formulates the priorities of a fuzzy pair-wise comparison matrix as a linear programming and derives crisp priorities from fuzzy pair-wise comparison matrices Manufacturing levers (Alternatives) are examined and analyzed as the main elements of manufacturing strategy. Also, manufacturing outputs (Criteria are identified that are competitive priorities of production of any organization. Next, using a hybrid approach of FSIR and TOPSIS, alternatives (manufacturing levers) are ranked. So dealing with the selected manufacturing levers and promoting them, an organization makes customers satisfied with the least cost and time.

Opis:
As many manufacturing companies are changing their production philosophies from a traditional focus on the manufacturing of the physical product towards a focus on the life cycle of the physical product, it is becoming important to engineer product's life cycle. Even more, many industrial researchers of the last decade see product's life cycle prolonging activities as a business opportunity both in economical and environmental ways. As a result, more focus is now put on the use phase and end-of-life phase, including maintenance and remanufacturing. The analysis of current end-of-life practices identifies significant improvements to product design that reduce the impact of manufactured goods on the environment as whole. Life cycle engineering and product take-back is a routine for many large industries and corporations nowadays, but, it is still a big challenge for a small and medium companies. In context of end-of-life strategies implementation, there is a very little experience for smaller firms, and results are often controversial. This paper will touch material processing equipment end-of-life strategies combination perspectives, real-life implementation of them, benefits and consequences. The case study is made on a basis of a lorry that will be transferred into spoil mixing plant.

The purpose of this study is to examine the links between generic strategy types and organizationalperformance. Moreover, this paper will attempt to discover whether or not the emphasis onplanning strategy implementation will enhance a company with superior performance. This paperstudied 104 Georgian based manufacturing companies. A questionnaire was chosen as the surveyinstrument. The respondents selected were CEOs of the manufacturing companies being surveyed.Findings of this study are based on the results of the hypotheses tests which indicate that companieswith clearly defined business strategies are performing better. The group of companies with integratedstrategies had better performance than those concentrating on either of them. This contradicts theidea that it is not effective to use a combination of cost-leadership and differentiation strategy becauseof their exclusivity. There were no strong ties established between the strategic type and the planningof strategic implementation. Moreover, companies placing emphasis on planning strategy implementationhave better performances than those “stuck in the middle”. The results of this study are particularlyuseful for practitioners, as it can provide managers with the information connected with strategyformulation and implementation processes. This study makes a contribution to the existing literatureby exploring strategy processes within Georgian based manufacturing companies, and addressing theinconclusiveness of the results of generic strategies and organizational performance.

Gospodarka niemiecka posiada relatywnie lepsze warunki do rozwoju krajowego przetwórstwa przemysłowego.
The aim of this article is to present the results of the analysis of manufacturing competitiveness in selected EU economies. The main research question is to identify similarities of EU countries in terms of the competitiveness of manufacturing and to compare the determinants of the competitive position of German manufacturing with the factors, which are determining the position of the Visegrad Group economies. The research procedure is based on critical analysis of the literature and on Ward's method. The conducted analysis shows the discrepancy between the competitive position of industrial production in Germany and in the V4 countries. The German economy has relatively better conditions to develop domestic manufacturing. The discrepancy between the competitiveness of manufacturing in German and in Visegrad Group results mainly from the level of technological advancement of domestic industrial production. The technological and environmental dimensions have an increasing impact on the competitive position of manufacturing in EU economies due to New Industrial Strategy.

Opis:
W artykule zarysowane zostały przyszłe obszary badań, których wyniki mogą przyczynić się do lepszego zrozumienia dylematu make or buy.
Companies can choose from a wide range of production strategies which enable using self-production (make), external suppliers (buy), or a hybrid approach (make and buy). The aim of this study is to systematise modern production strategies and to present the decision-making process of enterprises implementing international production strategies. The implementation of each concept is dependent on the strategic assumptions, the potential of the company and the impact of the external factors. Moreover, the presented model suggests that the international production strategy has basically an evolutionary character, being a consequence of the flexible approach of companies to emerging opportunities, constraints and risks resulting from changes in the company and in the industry, within the supply chain, in the home market and potential host markets, and in the global environment. The article outlines the future research areas, the results of which will contribute to a better understanding of the make or buy dilemma.

This paper adopts a probabilistic fuzzy analytic network process (PROFUZANP) approach in developing a sustainable manufacturing strategy. In this hybrid method, analytic network process handles the complexity of the problem structure under consideration, fuzzy set theory is used to describe vagueness in individual decision-making and probability theory is used to handle randomness in group decision-making. This holistic methodological approach addresses complexity and uncertainty both in individual and group decision-making which is useful in modeling group decisions such as developing a sustainable manufacturing strategy. In this work, an inclusive approach of integrating traditional manufacturing strategy concepts and sustainable manufacturing principles is proposed as a unifying decision model. The proposed decision structure adopts the hierarchical structure of manufacturing strategy and explores the presence of strategic responses and stakeholders’ interests as significant components of sustainability. Using PROFUZANP, the decision model identifies the content policies of sustainable manufacturing strategy. This content strategy is expected to address both competitiveness and sustainability of manufacturing firms. Results are reported in this paper along with insights and future work. The contribution of this work is the integration of manufacturing strategy and sustainability into a coherent decision framework that requires the use of PROFUZANP in dealing with complex and uncertain group decision-making problem.

Purpose: The aim of the paper was to analyse barriers to adopting Cloud Computing solutions by small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Poland. Design/methodology/approach: The paper is based on the review of literature and studies on the application of Cloud Computing solutions in small and medium-sized enterprises as well as the results of own research among this group of enterprises. Quantitative research was carried out using a survey questionnaire in December 2017 – February 2018, with the use of the CATI technique, among manufacturing enterprises in Poland. Findings: Investigated SMEs see fewer and fewer barriers in the implementation of new CC models. In the surveyed group most barriers are perceived by less than 30% of respondents. Research limitations/implications: A certain limitation of the study is that no separate Digital Business Strategy or Agile Strategy were considered, assuming that they were included in the adopted survey options. This result could have been influenced by the period in which the research was carried out, which is less than half a year before the entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR. Originality/value: The perception of barriers is discussed taking into account the application of an IT Strategy and the party responsible for the implementation.

Today’s concern and problem for most of the companies is the way of surviving and prospering in current and future periods of time in the marketplace. Sustainable competitive ability can be one of the ways of adaptation to the global business and rapid environment requirements. Operational competitiveness is not easy to be sustainably improved because of unpredictable environment situations, such as continuous increasing customer needs, global competitive environment, rapid and unpredictable changes in government policy, company crisis during significant changes etc. However, it is possible to make adaptive adjustments on operations strategy level in dynamic business environment and to become competitive enough compared to the competitors. The purpose of this paper is to define and assess sustainable competitive advantage and the direction of development in housing business. It can be analysed by two core factors, i.e. Sense and Respond (S&R) methodology, Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) as well as Sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) method. This study also focuses on applying S&R method in order to optimize operational competitiveness as well as defining the competitive priorities of the case company. The analysis results show the critical areas in different departments of the case company, which can help the managers to make quick decisions. In addition, they reveal that during the crisis the resource allocation is continuously changing and therefore the operation strategy of the case company is not well defined as well as competitive advantages are not enough sustainable.

Purpose: This paper aims to present a fresh idea on how to model and examine the level of sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) with and without knowledge and /technology (K/T) effects in a case company’s operation by taking the manufacturing strategy’s development directions and the efficiency of resource allocation among its attributes into consideration. Design/Methodology/approach: In this paper, questionnaires are filled by two different managerial groups, company’s management team (G1) and company’s global directors (G2). The analyses based on G1, G2 and G1-G2 (mixed results) are performed and examined as well as the effect of knowledge and /technology rankings to observe the differences on how they effect on company’s operations strategy and what kind of strategy type that decision makers might follow. Besides, the effects of knowledge/technology rankings on SCA risk levels are examined on different case companies to perceive the similarities and differences with our case company. In this case study, the objectives are achieved based on several methodologies: manufacturing strategy index (MSI) [1] and sense and respond (S&R) methodology [2]. Findings: The achieved results through the model are found to be promising corresponding to the feedback from the respondents. Research limitations/implications: The model is applied only in a big sized B2B global company that produces power electronics products. Therefore, further tests need to be applied to the model in case of multiple companies from different sizes and areas to figure out the best formula in case of validation of strategic direction (MAPE, RSME or MAD). Practical implications: As a result of its wide applicability and its ease in arrangement the model has an enormous potential for strategic decision-making process and strategic analysis. Originality/Value:The model can provide a more dependable possibility of sustainable improvement to the corporate operational excellence and strategy.

The model compares the angle differences between the strategy and resource triangles with opinions from different management groups of informants. It was found out that Normalized Scaled Critical Factor Index (NSCFI) model is more scientific comparing to formal ones through validation. Calculations based on the MSI questionnaire resulted in medium high values for the Prospector strategy both for past- and future orientation. S&R calculations regarding the past orientation resulted in low values for all strategy types, except P-NSCFI for Analyzer. Moreover this study covers a case, in where Balanced Critical Factor Index (BCFI) was used defining company annual strategy plan.
